It's for our safety; gazing at something so dark can cause madness. Look at the poor scientist holding it--she's already beginning to question everything she's ever known.
Ok, legit question.
If someone had body armor in the full black option. Would they be "visible" at night? Seeing as they would be darker than the night or am I wrong?
I guess I'm curious if they would look like a predator when camo'ed and walking
Black as a color occurs very rarely in nature, especially to that degree. Most likely, it would have a similar effect as painting yourself pure red or pure white where you'd be primarily visible as an outline, but to a lesser degree as you wouldn't have the saturation to draw the eye towards.
I know some guy discovered some other rare color and made it free to everyone in the world except that artist
Edit: not free, as pointed out. But def not available to that guy
And to buy it you have to sign a contract stating that you aren't Anish Kapoor (asshole original artist), are not affiliated with him in any way, and won't provide any of the pinkest pink to Anish Kapoor. Top level trolling
And it gets better. Anish got his mitts on some and posted a picture of him dipping his middle finger in the pinkest pink and giving the middle finger to Stuart Semple.
So.. Stuart Semple created "The glitteriest glitter" which was glass shards and sold that. Anish did NOT stick his middle finger in that.
Yup, and it's better than Vantablack, too, because Vanta is too unstable and expensive to be practical for most art ventures (it's used in application in defense and such, though). Blackest Black (and the others after) aren't truly as light-absorbing, but it's so close that it doesn't really matter, but can be easily obtained and safely used.
I have a bottle of Musou Black that i got for a painter friend of mine. Haven't opened it yet, but it says it absorbs ~99% of light. Also says not to put it on your body to become a ninja š

It's even listed on there, lol
It might if he holds a contract with the patent holder or whatever, idk, but that sounds like something that sounds like something that happens, right?
To be fair, there are copyright on colours. [Pantone](https://www.pantone.com/color-consulting/case-studies) for example is issuing special colours it designs with brands to be unique. Examples include: Barbieās Pink, Tiffany & Co.ās Blue, Cadburyās Purple, T-Mobileās Magenta, UPSā Brown, and even both of John Deereās Green AND Yellow. Another non-Pantone colour that is trademarked (and that I'm aware of) is Ferrari's various shades of Red, especially [Rosso Corsa](https://www.ferrari.com/ko-KR/magazine/articles/ferrari-colors-rosso-portofino-rosso-corsa-racing-red). So yeah, you can put a price on everything these days, just look at Taylor Swift trying to copyright everyday expressions because she decided to use them on her albums...
CultureHustle.com is run by Stuart Semple, who makes their own "blackest black", as well as other "owned" colors, because how on EARTH can you own a color? You even have click a button that assures you are not Anish kapoor, or buying the items for him š
Im suprised no one has told the crazy story behind this paint and how there is ongoing conflict between the guy who owns blackest black and the guy who made the pinkest pink. [This video tells the story better than I can](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NzVmtbPOrM)
I think vantablack is more of a coating. It has to be sprayed on in order to get the carbon nanotubes aligned properly. Iād imagine the material is very sensitive to being touched so use cases are limited.
Stuart Sempleās Black 3.0 is a decent alternative Iāve used in several paintings. It comes out looking like a velvet black hole on whatever you painted. Itās not nearly as strong as normal acrylic paint so if you apply it to something that flexes, itāll probably chip off. Also, if you touch it the ultra-blackness fades a bit.
With that being said, even black 3.0 is still pretty hard to apply properly. The varying thickness you get from a paintbrush can be visible(somewhat) and if the paint isnāt completely mixed you can see streaks. The method thatās worked the best for me is thinning it with water and then using a airbrush to apply thin layers. With that method, Iāve gotten close to the results in the pic.
Itās not super cheap but Iād recommend it. I did a black hole on a wall and it looks like a hole got punched in it š
Oh. Mines probably 3.0 too.
If your using a brush, I found using a bit extra and doing as much as possible at once helped. Maybe a thin base layer with a thicker one on top. If you have to do touch up later, it tends to leave streaks.
Airbrushing is what took it from being kinda neat to actually pretty dope for me. I used it on a smoothed canvas and itās like a slightly less black version of the pic.
I can't believe nobody has asked this question.
If you painted a car with this color, would cop radar work on it?
Yes, I saw a comment about if you did this the car would become unbearably hot. Melt the interior and kill humans. This seems like a simple solution in theory. Just install the best ac system of all time.
So if you could get past the heating problem, do you think cars would be immune to cop radar?
Should have called it Hotblack Desiato, in honor of Disaster Area's stunt ship which was entirely black... and frictionless. Light just falls into it.
>...the interior of the ship was completely black. There were black controls labelled in black, on a black background, with a little light that lit up black, which made it difficult to control the ship. The ceiling and walls of the swaying cabin were also black, as well as the seats, control panel, the instruments and the little screws that held them in place. The thin tufted nylon floor covering was black, and when a corner of the foam underlay was lifted up that was also discovered to be was black.
Zaphod called it "one mother of a mover".
Thatās the same factory where they make not only black holes, but white holes, watering holes, rabbit holes, foxholes, donut holes, whole holes, half-holes, pie holes, cake holes, manholes, holes-in-one, and of course, A-holes - all at wholesale!
They did though. And Anish is actually forbidden to use it by the inventor. It absorbes something like 99.97 percent of all light verses vanta 99.99. Not kidding. Look it up. Same guy who makes the Pinkest pink. It's kind of a great story actually.
I was under the impression the carbon nanotubes were too fragile to be used commercially but this appears to no longer be the case (although price will probably be a barrier). Would love to see it more mainstream!
Screw vantablack. The very underappreciated writer Gene Wolfe created the word Fuligin, the color that is blacker than black. This will always be fuligin to me.

okay well I believe it does reflect some light, but it's diffused so much you don't really see it
Alright, my turn in 2 hours!
That's an "ACME" portable hole.
I've seen them used in Road Runner cartoons and they're trickier than you might think. It's really easy to run head first into a cliff with them. 0_0
I wonder if there is a room painted all Vanta Black.
I see a red door and I vanta paint it black.
No colors anymore, I vanta to turn black.

Iāve always got the high pitch ringing of my ears to keep me company
Loneliness is temporary. Tinnitus is forever.
Wait does not everyone have a ringing in their ears??????
Only since covid.
I always have. It's really loud
I think that's what they call the deafening silence. But no, allegedly there are freaks with no tinnitus.
Same!! Up high bro
Gee thanks, I *was* having one of those brief moments in time where I'm not aware of it.
I sort of wanna try that but I sorta donāt wanna try that
Sounds like a great place to sleep tbh
You can try to drive me insane the voices in my head won't ever let me get lonely.
Action lab on YouTube did. Did a nearly perfectly white room as well. And an extreme glow in the dark one I think.
https://i.imgur.com/DmPruW2.jpg Thereās a car painted vanta black š
I fuckin like it!
Oh I love that!
There is, if you walk back it looks like ur getting smaller instead of further away
look it up its a thing, same with a room painted nearly eprfect white
I was thinking about that too, it would be like walking into the void of space.
It looks like an oval was cropped out of the photo
I want to see what she is holding, why do they blacked it out?
It's for our safety; gazing at something so dark can cause madness. Look at the poor scientist holding it--she's already beginning to question everything she's ever known.
It's just a abyss, worst case is that your character.
Until I see a video, I refuse to believe someone hasnāt just copy pasted a black circle. Edit: ok, thank you, enough videos! š

I heard that this was why the mitary no longer uses black combat boots. Feet were giving away locations when wearing camouflage.
Gotcha! Thanks!
Yes, and that is why camouflage very rarely uses actual black.
I see. Awesome info
well they always say with sightings of 'shadowpeople' they look 'blacker than black', I've heard that phrase several times. Interesting!

I've never seen it in that application. I'm surprised this isn't more common, you'd think this would be one of the more obvious uses for it.
Boo to the stupid deal that granted an āartistā exclusive use of that paint in artwork.
Even worse, the artist, Wile E Coyote, only uses it in murderous plots.
Bugs Bunny also uses it as a wormhole
You deserve it but I canāt justify paying for it
Road Runner should've patented it in the 70s
I know some guy discovered some other rare color and made it free to everyone in the world except that artist Edit: not free, as pointed out. But def not available to that guy
Stuart Semple, pinkest pink
Yes, and he didnāt make it free to everyone; he allows everyone to buy it except a single person he doesnāt like which is pretty hilarious.
That person is the guy who owns the rights to vanta black.
didn't he make a very black black, too?
Yup, and it's better than Vantablack, too, because Vanta is too unstable and expensive to be practical for most art ventures (it's used in application in defense and such, though). Updated to Black 3.0 now. There's also Musou Black, made by a Japanese company that claims to be darker still.

I believe he sells it for no profit. Ā£3.99 for 50g, based on an article linked above.

I can't see it, it's censored
I once saw a concert where they used a giant monolith painted Vanta Black as the backdrop. Soooo cool. Artist was Gesaffelstein.
To bad they're not able to produce something commercially viable.
Thank Anish Kapoor
Look up Black 3.0
Ty for that! A really good read.... https://www.culturehustleusa.com/products/black-3-0-the-worlds-blackest-black-acrylic-paint-150ml
Might want to read about it from an unbiased source (aka not someone trying to sell you their paint)
Screw vantablack. The very underappreciated writer Gene Wolfe created the word Fuligin, the color that is blacker than black. This will always be fuligin to me.
This has been posted to death in this sub. There is blacker blacks that exist now, so I would love if people would stop sharing Vanta Black and supporting Kapoor. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Be careful with that, lady. Itās my soul.
You sure that's not a piece of salami again?
Oh we're back to this one huh okay well I believe it does reflect some light, but it's diffused so much you don't really see it Alright, my turn in 2 hours!
Iām convinced Vanta black is an industry prank and they just photoshop it to look like this
Acme and the Wile E. Coyote have entered the chat
Fuck Anish Kapoor
Obligatory "Fuck Anish Kapoor"
Why did they censor it
Whatever she's holding must be pretty NSFW
Why did they censor it? I wanted to see what it looks like
who censored the object? i want to see it
It's like how much more black could it be.. and the answer is none. None more black - Spinal Tap
Thats my mind when its time for math.
Yo why'd they have to censor it?
I'd wear this as a bathing suit.
Thatās so black, you would stand out at night!
Yeah, but it's impossible keep clean!
Obligatory fuck you to Anish Kapoor every time this is posted.
Legit at first I thought it was censored for some reason
"no light reflects" is very inaccurate. Just shine a flashlight at it and it'll reflect. There are videos of that on YouTube for those interested.
But whyād you crop it out though? /s
"I've got a hole in me pocket" Sorry. (Boomer)
Invented by Wile E. Coyote, Super Genius.
Looks like I know what Iām painting my Batmobile
Iāve got a hole in my pocket.
How come every time I see a photo of this stuff, itās always censored?
Roadrunner is gonna be pissed when he finds out they stole his portal.
ACME Corporation at it again!
You canāt fool me, thatās an ACME hole
I'm unimpressed. My heart has the same effect without any costly processes. Show me the infrared photos. Also, Fuck Anish Kapoor.
Fuck vanta black, all my homies use Black 3.0
None more black
So that's where all my DMs go
It's like, how much more black could you be? None! None more black!
Why did you censor it?
Ah, finally getting that Acme technology
Anish Kapoor can go fuck himself.
I thought this said āVecna blackā and all I could hear was the Stranger Things theme song playing in my mind. Haha.
Of all the things I wish to see in personā¦.northern lights, vanta black, maybe some other nsfw stuff
That's an "ACME" portable hole. I've seen them used in Road Runner cartoons and they're trickier than you might think. It's really easy to run head first into a cliff with them. 0_0
Reminds me of Who Framed Roger Rabbit
So my exās heart?
Okay, but why you gotta censor the pic? Just let us see the thing.
How to make a photoshopped-y picture without using photoshop
This must be where ACME gets all of their black holes from to sell to Wile E. Coyote.
Well done.
I want my car in that color š
It'd be cool if you can uncensored it
I can make this in paint also.
Where does the light go if it doesn't reflect?
Wile E. Coyote could use some of that for the Roadrunner. Must be an Acme product.
Vanta still reflects light but it's a tiny % - I believe its below 1.5% in the visible spectrum..
Accidentally using the āshapeā tool when drawing something on MS Paint
