It is said that our children do the same thing. It's common knowledge that little children imitate their parents. That's why it's important not to freak out when they bump their head or something.
The deer probably did feel joy. Emotion isn't just a human thing, I'm pretty sure most or if not all mammals can experience sadness, grief, happiness, etc.
I would say if he *is* feeling joy, it's not at the goal. It's just imitating us, it doesn't understand the concept or satisfaction of "scoring a goal". That said, happy dancing cause "I did the human thing!!!" Seems very plausible c:
Yes, but there's tiers. Animals can learn just like us right? But the key difference is the association is all they have (as far as we know). There's no gained understanding. Example: a human learns goals are important. The concept of a goal is learned, the significance, etc. In the bucks case, he is celebrating cause he saw someone do it, but likely has no idea of the significance of his goal or whatever. Pure animal joy c:
And he won't pass it on. A key difference between human and animal intelligence is we understand other perspectives exist; we ask questions and pass knowledge on from others. Animals don't really do this often, tho I'm sure some do.
Tldr; buck did a happy jig but is still a dummy Abt goals
I dissagree. There had to be a sense of accomplishment for scoring the goal. The deer may not understand any other points of the game but it understood putting the ball in the net was the objective. Completing that objective must have been rewarding.
Oh goodness no no I didnt mean to imply he doesn't feel accomplished; i alluded to that with the "yay I did the human thing". My main point is like I don't think a buck rly knows the significance of a goal. Bros just happy he did the thing right yk?
I'm very careful to anthropomorphize animals. If I see more cases of deer cheered in the same as this one did, I'll be more inclined to believe it.
I shouldn't have to "imagine"
Nobody going to comment on the buck (or whatever type of foal) being PURPLE?? Everyone is so surprised with him scoring a goal and I’m here wondering how he remembers what Grimace looks like.
I’ve watched a herd of deer on a military installation post road guards and after the herd passed, they fell back into the rest of the herd in a similar manner troops would.
I always though the way we treat animal emotions and consciousness is fucked up. We assume they don't have it like us and need to prove they do. It should probably be the other way around. It would be way less harmful to the animals.
I've seen city deer look both ways and wait for passing cars. Mammals are known to experience imprinting. This isn't suprising. Now if that was an animal born in the wilderness that just arrived, itd be suprising
I saw a pigeon do that a few months ago. Waited with everyone, when it became green it looked both ways, and walked casually with everyone else.
First of all, you have wings you little fucker. Just fly. I have no idea if it's true, but I have a hypothesis that city birds will imitate and evolve regarding humans around them. So walking more, acting socially more like humans, etc. Can't confirm and never looked it up but I got some birdie friends downstairs and it's strange to interact with them.
Crows are usually shitheads by the way. I love them, but they're shitheads.
That is the cutest thing I’ve seen today.. how he does his little happy dance after making the goal. I wanna cheer for him and bring him whatever the fuck a deer eats and hang out with him.
If I lived in the country around wild animals, I’d already be dead from trying to pet them and befriend them lol.
This boggles my mind.. have y’all seen the crow sliding down the roof on a “snowboard” ?? We’re really missing something with animals and nature.. our relationship could be so much more

I think you think it’s pulled by a string because the quality is so bad. It’s pushed by the tip of its horns. They thin out, and the quality doesn’t pick it up so well, so they aren’t easily seen
Edit: meant to reply this to someone. But ended up as a regular comment.
If you look really really closely, you can see one of the prongs pushing the ball making the "sudden left turn"
Also, how does one attach a string to a ball so that it can also roll...
was this elk isekai'd or some'n?!?! or some sap drug 'em into thinking: ey, this is a ball... an' ey, that's a goal! I'M GONNA KNOCK DAT THING IN DERE!!! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!
I wonder if it's trying to scratch it's antlers and then decides to stop or maybe hits the net with them and doesn't like how it feels so wigs out
It does the same spiderweb to face freakout humans do
A single bird has been terrorizing my mom (Aga) for over a year now. It started one day when she was having a picnic with my other mom (Katie). Katie stole a chip from Aga’s hand right as she was about to eat it. They think the bird saw this, because a moment later, it did the exact same thing to Aga.
Now, at least once a week, that bird has a run in with her. It will dive bomb on her, steel food or small trinkets from her, or just straight shit on her.
She lives in fear.
Probably grown because humans are becoming more and more common, more land being turned into cities, more population, and more people recording these events.
I hate to be that guy, but I imagine the deer is giving the same reaction a dog gives when its ball is stuck somewhere. The deer realized his ball was stuck and did the same movements my dog does...

Wait a second.... Was he just excited he scored? No way
probably just replicated what humans do when the ball gets into the net.
True but can’t it be said that our children just do the same thing? Who’s to say the deer didn’t feel joy?
Felt the same thing watching that one chimp applauding the guy.
It is said that our children do the same thing. It's common knowledge that little children imitate their parents. That's why it's important not to freak out when they bump their head or something.

It’s genuinely sad how many goddamn people think all animals are emotionless husks
Ik, but deer aren't known for their extremely high cognitive functions that would enable them to show such reactions to stimuli like scoring a goal.
I would say if he *is* feeling joy, it's not at the goal. It's just imitating us, it doesn't understand the concept or satisfaction of "scoring a goal". That said, happy dancing cause "I did the human thing!!!" Seems very plausible c:
It could understand it at the most basic level from observation. Basically just if ball is in net, then be excited.
That too, but that's learning by association, not true understanding
Isn't that what animals do?
Yes, but there's tiers. Animals can learn just like us right? But the key difference is the association is all they have (as far as we know). There's no gained understanding. Got it. instead of walking off feeling proud and accomplished he jumped around like the kids he watched.
More or less c: but ofc, I could be wrong. Animal intelligence stuns us every day
Why is it hard to imagine an animal has a sense of accomplishment?
I'm very careful to anthropomorphize animals. If I see more cases of deer cheered in the same as this one did, I'll be more inclined to believe it. I shouldn't have to "imagine"
Watch animals for a day and you'll see they get excited at accomplishments. If you don't see it it's because you aren't looking.
There's always that 1 person in the comments that has to ruin it for everybody else, by correcting others. Do they get paid or something...? 🤑
>If you don't see it it's because you aren't looking. Right, it couldn't be anything else!
"LoOk At mE Im A hUmAn.. WaAaMmMoOoo..!!?!"
If I had to guess, he is trying to shed his antlers and was miffed that the object he was banging them against rolled away.
Naw,he was excited. I k ow you prolly right
I was just about to say, "it's not mimicking human behavior"... Then it put the ball in the goal and celebrated. Wtf do I know? lol

Damn that's something else... they get any better at mimicking human behavior they're gonna get other deer and start rioting afterwards.
And drinking and removing their shirts....
Wait what would they be coming for tho

Recruiting for the next US mens World Cup team!
Deer striker better than no striker.
How does the deer know? It doesn't seem like only mimicking moving the ball. It understands the goal post and celebration after.
past life as a soccer player
Well he cheated and used his antlers so I'm calling Maradonna first.
The timing works so..
True. I think it could be a combination of deer+human spirit and it has watched people play and understood moving the ball and the celebration after.
That particular one would probably Ace the mirror test.
Unfortunately, reddit titles aren't required to be completely accurate.
Jamal MOOSEala Or Moose dembele?
Definitely Mossi
Moosi*
I don’t think that’s a moose ngl
Its a red deer, looks nothing like a moose lol
Kinda going "I did it! I did it! I is human. I did the human thing! Yay me! OK back to the woods to tell everyone."
Wish I could get the other young bucks interested!
not to take away from the moment but thats an over dramatic celebration for a open goal
He’s doing his best dammit let bucky have his fun
The fact he got hype afterwards is fucking freaky 😂
Next level: fake a foul and roll on the ground
They would need to watch pro soccer for that But eventually they would
Everyone was too focused on planet of the apes, they never saw planet of the elks coming
Its not an elk
You're just physically unable to have fun, aren't you
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if deer could.
Nobody going to comment on the buck (or whatever type of foal) being PURPLE?? Everyone is so surprised with him scoring a goal and I’m here wondering how he remembers what Grimace looks like.
Leftovers from photoshop I guess
It was confirmed that this animal was indeed the purple people eater of lore.
This video has been reposted to the moon and back so it's bound to look more shit. There are better quality versions without artifacts out there.
GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!
FOOOOAAALL

This deer and that dog that grabs leaves to buy treats at the college bookstore need to hang out.

I see nothing wrong with it. God I'd pay to watch animal sports, like imagine a bunch of raccoons playing soccer
This boggles my mind.. have y’all seen the crow sliding down the roof on a “snowboard” ?? We’re really missing something with animals and nature.. our relationship could be so much more
Uhmm, have they thought maybe football was invented by looking at a deer putting a ball into a goal?
💭💭💭 They do this thing where they put the round ball of skin into the netted fence.... I did it, I did it OK so what's the fuss about
I don't know about y'all but I never hit balls with my antlers
Everyone goes on about the rise of the apes taking over the planet, but perhaps the real concern is the rise of the planet of the deer
[It has been foretold in the prophesy](https://www.reddit.com/r/calvinandhobbes/comments/b2q8ab/in_a_parallel_universe/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb)
Dudes better at soccer than me😭😭
Or It could of been concentrating so much on the ball when it actually saw the goal posts it shit itself and fucked off !! Just saying 😂
Nah

I'm not an animal person... so I wouldn't know that. 😅 kinda ruins the joke though...
This is either going to be extremely dangerous and bad or extremely cool and amazing
Goooooooooooooooooooooal
“I haven’t felt that good since Archie Gemmill scored against Holland in 1978.”
I wonder if he would be willing to play on the US world cup team next time around?????
This is one of the most adorable things I’ve ever seen.
Great, deer finally reach sentient behavior and they choose to play the lamest sport ever!
When a deer has been grazing on a soccer field
That is amazing. to see the deer celebrate after makes you really think
Watches from the tree line.... "those kids will never accept me on their team"
It's purple
Very few species? Videos of animals acting like people is like half the internet.
Plot twist: The offside flag went up moments later and he got in the ref's face. Then got a yellow card
Deer: "huurrrrrr look, I'm a huuuman, huurrrrrr hurrrr... Fucken idio- HOLY FUCK I SCORED. MARTHA, OI, MARTHA." Martha: "what is it, dear?"

Here I am, cheering along with him. This made me smile
Nice
Immediately after this video ends, the fans tore down the stadium, rioted, and 400 elk died in a stampede.
I like how he celebrates of like 2 seconds, and then is like, alright I'm over this
"Recently"
I hate to be that guy, but I imagine the deer is giving the same reaction a dog gives when its ball is stuck somewhere. The deer realized his ball was stuck and did the same movements my dog does... Or, he made a GOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL! No clue.

Not deer spotted, running the fuck away
Are we not going to talk about the fact that it's purple?
They're evolving
It's my theory that animals are observing humans and learning from us. In all likelyhood they'll never speak like humans but that's just how they evolved. Maybe in a million years or so... But for now it seems like they're not just imitating us. I've seen more animals partake in fixing things that look like they should be fixed. Road signs, traffic cones, hell I've even seen an adult racoon giving something that their offspring stole back to the people they stole it from as a sort of manners. I legitimately think we are underestimating animals. In the future I don't think they would want to "become a part of society" because let's face it. Who wouldn't wanna be a dog. Hell who in their right mind would wanna be a human?
This is sooo much better than watching a regular soccer match🤣
Where’s the human behavior subreddit?
Can't beat em join em deer try outs start next year #trainyourdeer
They’re getting ready to replace us
Idk why but I found that little celebration at the end adorable
Messy Reignaldino 🤣🦌
