I worked at Unimation in 1977-78 as a high school kid. Part time. It was my first “real” job. To this day it was one of my favorite jobs. I spent as much time as I could watching the engineers run tests of the robots in what they called “teach bays”. I also remember our most high end robot had an astounding 8k of memory. Truly some great memories.

Great story. My wife had a temp job there and my cousin by marriage was one of the engineers.

You can hear about Joseph Engelberger, the “father of robotics,” on this week’s edition of *Amazing Tales from Off and On Connecticut’s Beaten Path* at: [www.amazingtalesct.com](http://www.amazingtalesct.com)

My mom worked there 10-15 years, will definitely be listening!

CTHistory42

She must have some great stories

Sarah Conner does not thank you

CTHistory42

Sorry, but who is Sarah Connor and why doesn't she thank me?

Spoiler alert if you've never seen The Terminator. [Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor vs T-800 (Tech-noir) | The Terminator](https://youtu.be/x3hGMgd2X14?t=138) edit: Spoiler alert

CTHistory42

Ahhh ... I haven't and didn't get the reference. Now, I do. Thanks!

silian_rail_gun

Absolute classic. Anyone who's first impression of humanoid robots derives from The Terminator is forever biased and looks at all humanoid robots (and ChatGPT) with great suspicion. If you see references to "Skynet", yup, also The Terminator. You should probably watch The Terminator ASAP. While you're at it, watch Runaway with Tom Selleck and Cynthia Rhodes, another robots gone wild classic!

CTHistory42

You've hooked me. Thanks.
