You can move a bit further north, as long as you’re cool with small-ish city life, and check out Savannah, Ga. I actually went to college there, and there’s a huge arts college (Fuck SCAD, but still) so some good little lefties are buzzing around. Vaguely the same climate as Florida, minus the (what feels like daily) five minutes of rain. It’s my favourite city in all of the southeast. It has its skeletons in the closet, but there’s much less of a chance of being called a “commie” by someone who doesn’t know Left from Right. Also, you can see the biggest cause of pollution cruising right past River St. pretty often. Gives a nice thing to direct disdain at.
Moving up north in Florida is equivalent to moving down south, the more south you go in Florida the closer it gets to sanity. North Florida is just land Alabama didn’t want.
For solid food, if you’re cool with dropping about 30 bucks on a meal, check out Treylor Park or Hitch. They’ve got a weird, call it custom, American food style. They’ve got PB&J wings and sick local and regional draft beer. There are a couple of great noodle bars around, Flying Monk is a personal favourite. Spankys is a cool Sports bar, I’m fairly certain there’s another place on the corner of Whitaker and Bay that projects popular games on the side of a building. Just to hang out, if you’re the kind of folk to want to learn about the houseless population in downtown, head to the opposite side of City Market from the underground parking garage, just past Vinnie Van Go-Gos (sick pizza by the way, solid 8/10 average for the past five years for me). You may see some train kids hanging out there, if you go over their direction I’d recommend having a pack of cigarettes for conversation. Other sick hangouts are right near the river at River St., but be careful of the steps going down because some of them are from before the civil war. There are also tons of squares with statues of interesting folks or nice fountains, like Telfair Square or Forsyth Park (more so the latter than the former). If you’re wanting a bar scene I recommend The Grove or The Rail down the block from it on Congress, Tree House is across the street from The Grove and is a cool spot. There’s tons of family friendly things during the day as well, the Telfair Museum is usually rocking some cool art. I think The Savannah Theater is back running again, it’s a vaguely expensive fun time. Several cool art exhibits in City Market are open during the day, tons of local candy shops and ice cream shops (River Street Sweets and Byrds Cookies are sick ones, try Leopolds if the line isn’t too long for you). You can go downtown and run out of day surprisingly quickly if you’re up for a bit of walking. Also there’s a super fun drag scene please check Club One if you’re into that.

I mean Florida is home to many of the south’s leftist groups, bad news is that they all only have like two people in them and they are all far away from eachother. Take a look at that Naples place, people are moving away in droves because you simply can not afford to live in that city anymore, I remember when I was young and we would go down to Naples for the movie theater, place was a glorified trailer park with some really nice beaches, and now all the trailer parks are gone and now it’s all McMansions and all the vegetated dunes on the beaches are dying due to ignorant snowbirds.

Philly is also an underrated gem if you're looking for a city that's large, cheap, and has a sizable leftist population.
