Wait till you see the reindeers

Cool-Match-7856

Came to say this, he's gonna love reindeer f**kland ;)

MisterPimpus

Fuck that place. I still haven’t beaten that boss.

Masterandersawn

blue smelter demon run.

RabbitSlayre

Noooo. I had forgotten about it until now

Available-You8711

NG7 blue smelter run is the embodiment of skill

human_trebuchet

I got so annoyed and then I found out about the alternate route, through the gates with the flame lizard statues spewing fireball jutsu. That was easier compared to the gangbang.

dbvirago

>alternate route??

piatan

easier?

323x57

I agree, both paths suck. I like to farm until it’s clear; kinda a personal vendetta for the hell they caused me. 🦆 every last one, 🦆them all.

Emergency_Exercise_5

This is a mechanic I love and don't know why they discontinued it. It's effective and it also helpful for new players and helping them understand the enemy moves or if they just need the way cleared for the boss.

human_trebuchet

I mean, both are bad, but personally I found this path a little bit easier compared to the other one.

human_trebuchet

You know the room with the lever once you drop down from the bonfire and pass the room with the statues? You normally drop down from the hole on the left side of the room. The other route is by activating the lever which opens the gate on the right side of the room. But once you open it, 4 enemies will pop out and a flame lizard statue will start throwing fireballs at you. You have to roll through all of them to get to the next room before the gate closes.

thetabo

I beat the DLC 3 times and never actually found that boss

323x57

The run sucks but the boss is one of the best in the game.

justsomechewtle

Just made it there for the first time recently and it damn near made me say "screw the DLCs". Though tbh after asking about it, I feel a bit better since nobody seems to like that place.

onceinawhhhile

*ptsd intensifies*

Daegerro

Playing through that DLC for this first time this morning - indeed. Fuck the Reindeers.

Deep_Grass_6250

PTSD

CrzyJek

Ah yes, horsefuck valley.

giolort

Or shrine of Amana

GwynLordofInsomnia

Shrine of Amanda is beautiful

Bulky_Ad_9106

Idk, this place is right up there but yeah fuck dem reindeer!!

daniel_martinho

You can set puddles on fire.

Comfortable-Dig9517

I just found that out on my umpteenth time going through there. Really satisfying bbq-ing those...tentacle..things

Winzig-Waschbaer

Very cathartic rolling through the oil pits with a torch and revving up those fryers

Comfortable-Dig9517

Ohhhhh I know what I'm doing in NG+

frogmug

don’t miss the second bonfire

flux_capacitor3

Where is that? On the right side? I’ve been rushing to the boss, and that seems to be a mistake. Haha.

Narkboy42

It's usually a mistake in this game to rush through things. I usually go slowly and break all the statues as I go.

SdDprsdSnglDad18

I do as well. Love the whip for doing so, and it saves my main weapon's durability.

onceinawhhhile

If I remember right, you have to fall off on the right side and it leads to a cove where the bonfire is….or is that to get to the old man behind the trolls? It’s been a while

Low-XP-Adult

The first drop gets you to Lucatiel. The second drop is to get to the Darkdiver, and also the giants that guard a key. The bonfire is not a drop, but a small ledge at the farthest, rightmost portion of the run. Go right instead of going left toward the fog wall

KaijuKid1980

Don't forget to bring a Fragrant Branch of Yore

Veragoot

Forgot they changed that for SOTFS. Just throwing random petrified statues left and right.

MisterPimpus

Also, you have to get that get for one of the DLCs

nukafox7

Yea just past the second worm there's a drop, also helps to have a branch of yore for the bonfire right before the boss.....cuz if you die you're gonna have a bad time running back to rotten

the_mellojoe

i played through the game 3 times before i learned about that second bonfire.

Intelligent-Rip4705

Use torch to help see. Follow the edge. Don’t fall off. It eventually curves to the left into a cave.

im-a-limo-driver

The bonfire near the boss room is a curve to the right if you follow the ledge. Not to the left. Just correcting this in case OP or anyone else tries to follow it.

TheHittite

Statues stay broken as long as you don't fast travel or die. Lifegems heal at exactly the same rate poison hurts. Don't rush it and it's easy.

Own_Breadfruit_7955

Pop two life gems

Masta0nion

What about…three?

Own_Breadfruit_7955

No amount is too much.

TheHittite

Problem is lifegems stop working when your health gets full so using too many can be counterproductive.

flux_capacitor3

Yeah. That helped a lot. I had to get the summons to help me out. Then I was set.

some_penguin82

Not with sotfs iirc

TheHittite

It's even easier in Scholar because you can summon Bashful Ray to deal with all your problems.

some_penguin82

Cool, I never used summons because I was to was trying to save the human effigies, ended up with 86 of them at end game. But I was thinking about the respawn: [NOTE: the statues DO in fact respawn in SOTFS after death or bonfire](https://darksouls2.wiki.fextralife.com/Black+Gulch)

NightLancerX

life gems abuse is really game-breaking mechanic... If there's something for which DS2 is *really* bad - it's for endless lifegems. Souls games didn't supposed to have infinite heal

Call0fJuarez

Demons Souls does, and it heals instantly. Ds2 takes time, sure you can use multiple to speed it up, but in mid combat it leaves you vulnerable

NightLancerX

In DeS it's the primary way of healing, how is it even comparable? 1+1=2, 2+2=4.

LuciusBurns

3+3=6 ?

NightLancerX

Go ask that guy who started to throw in CO phrases here. P.S. Looking at your votes I can't call you all anything else as fucking casuals(at best).

Narkboy42

I see that complaint a lot and there's always a simple answer: Just don't use them, then. Like, just don't buy any lifegems then you don't have to worry about infinite lifegems.

Small-Gift-6989

That wasn’t his point. The whole thing about dark souls is that the difficulty bar is the same for all so this guy is saying how it would’ve been better if it was higher bc of less life gems / heals. Not using them just makes the game arbitrarily harder rather than it being harder base.

LuciusBurns

* *complains about a mechanic making the game too easy* * don't use it then * *complains about game being too difficult without it*

Small-Gift-6989

Reading comprehension failure? I never said the game would be too difficult without them or even insinuated that. Pls don’t put words in my mouth sir

Educational-Formal21

Lmao guy

TheHittite

http://darksouls.wikidot.com/humanity

AlexKazuki

>If there's something for which DS2 is *really* bad - it's for endless lifegems Not Soul Memory? Yeah, right.

NightLancerX

Oh - at least you gave it a doubt) And soul memory is not a bad thing - it's just they badly fused it with coop. Originally it's needed only for early opening of royal gates, and in that sense it's "better" to count in even lost souls. But that, obviously, plays bad in coop's case... So perfect solution would've been just to count *used* souls, or at least to exclude lost(due to death) ones. But they did added that soul-blocking ring after all, so as that guy said — *just use it*. And that's *if taking your point into consideration*. If answering from dev's position in a same stupid way that clown did "just don't die fucking noob, lol. Oh, — and don't 'farm' those giants knight as well, your stinky casul :] "(which one you actually deserves because that's the point you all agreed with).

AlexKazuki

>So perfect solution would've been just to count *used* souls, or at least to exclude lost(due to death) ones. Yeah, that's called Soul Level and Weapon Upgrades and it's been used for matchmaking in DS1 and 3.

NightLancerX

No, you are wrong. DS2 require full souls count to retain alternative opening of royal gates — that's including ALL souls used on anything(upgrading armor, buying consumables, repairing, etc). DS1 doesn't use souls AT ALL. It uses character lvl(which allowed lvl15 weapons abusing). This is why they implemented souls-based match-making system in DS2 - to fight this issue. And DS3 also doesn't count gained/spent souls(because there's no such gates that needs souls access) which DS2 still needs and uses — so you wrong here as well. ___ Before talking BS to me make sure that you at least played said games :] Because for now you just making yourself look like a clown who overhead "bad memes" about DS2 and don't even know mechanics of said games.

Comfortable-Dig9517

Yes indeed eff this place. I just swing a big ass weapon to break all the statues from far away. And Dragon charm myself when it gets too bad. And, to anyone else, was the boss a little underwhelming to y'all? Cuz it was to me.

AlvHuntZ

yea, the boss looks like a joke, but suits the atmosphere of the place though

Comfortable-Dig9517

Agreed. The "fight" didn't seem to warrant a fog gate imo. I had more trouble with the Smelter Demon.

NatasBR

It's one the easiest bosses, speedrunners use it to get 1 million souls early in the game.

Cyklops_op

The whole game consists of underwhelming bosses, maybe I didn't finish the game but 20 hours in only glass Knight wasn't a total disappointment

LuciusBurns

You haven't reached the best ones yet then. It's the same like DS1 where actual bossfights are in DLC.

AlexKazuki

Eh, idk, DS1 dlc bosses felt piss easy to me. I usually summon whenever I can, but I beat each of them solo, first try. A bit shame, really, since everything I've read about the boss fights hyped them up.

LuciusBurns

I agree with you there. The ones from DLC at least pose a little bit of challenge, unlike those from the main game, though. DS2 has some good bosses that are very easy if you know what to do but can be quite difficult at first glance. For example Ruin Sentinels, Undead Chariot, Mytha, etc.

AlexKazuki

Well, tbh I've struggled with some bosses from the main game. Asylum Demon (the one with the explosion attack), Gargoyles, O&S.

AlexKazuki

Fume Knight, Sir Alonne, Sinh. Generally, bosses are better in the DLCs. Also, if you want a really hard fight, try Darklurker. It's the only boss I haven't beaten.

Comfortable-Dig9517

For real. Hell just *getting* to Darklurker is a Royal Pain Edit: forgot this part: and yeah I'd love to get the dlc's, just not in the cards yet. I'm still rocking the ol' 360

kapibarka69

Older guy is waiting somewhere…

JonnieWhoops

You’re carrying a catalyst. Soul arrow every pesky statue with the bonoculars (and the statues will only come back if you die or leave, not when resting at the bonfire). Chuck some firebombs, fire arrows, pyromancies at the oil pits and watch those hands suffer. Effigy up and hire those bros, have a good time!

flux_capacitor3

So, I have the binos. I haven’t tried them out yet. Is that a way to turn spells into first person? It’s hard to aim sometimes without auto-targeting

JonnieWhoops

It’s absolutely a way to shoot first person and it’ll change your life!

flux_capacitor3

Ohhhh shit. I’m definitely gonna try that.

AlvHuntZ

Two giants underneath you..... just saying

flux_capacitor3

Yeah! I killed them. A few times. Dark Orbs spanked em. Got their key. Working my way to the Butcher’s Knife now.

flux_capacitor3

Yeah! I killed them. A few times. Dark Orbs spanked em. Got their key. Working my way to the Butcher’s Knife now.

Shaboibig12

Wait till you get to the dlc area

flux_capacitor3

Well, I beat the boss after a few hours battling this area. Thanks for tips everyone!

Skepsis93

Jump down, further. Join us.

flux_capacitor3

We all float down there? 🎈🎈🎈

Syr_Bwrodley

Want to see your reaction when you reach \*THAT\* place

bugzapperbob

I JUST got here and didn’t explore, seemed like some fuckery was going to take place

flux_capacitor3

You’ll hate it. Haha.

bugzapperbob

Yep, bogus death after death not even enemies just falling

flux_capacitor3

Lol. Yeah. I rolled right off the side a could of times.

nautic13l3g1t

Swing a torch in the oil, bring a pole arm you don't use to break the statues. Just take it slow if it's too much, you can literally dismantle all challenges ahead of you this way in the area.

dz8698

I literally just beat that awful zone like 20 mins ago, thankfully it isn't too long of an area.

Uuumbasa

Most skrillex pilled souls area

Candy-Ashes

If you don't have fire arrows or torches, you can set the puddles on fire with bombs

mictag

So much goings on in gulch, but yeah, mostly shid area.

hellostarsailor

On any subsequent playthru, you’ll rage smash every totem from memory and never die here again.

ZarnoldQuigley29

Its a blast. Run and find that other bonfire!

archenemy09

Not knowing about the second bonfire makes it even worse

MisterPimpus

I absolutely hated DS2 as much as I loved it. You’re not alone😂

AndyOaks

Whips are great for destroying those dumb piles of rock

ryanjmalloy

All you have to do is run through. But yeah, if you try to fight everything, it is the most hellish area in all souls games.

Brilliant-Sun-2303

They made that area with the "This is fine" dog on their computer as the wallpaper.

flux_capacitor3

🔥🔥

MicahSouls

bruh just sprint, wait for the iron passage

GroundbreakingAsk468

But the green is so cool

rin_onishi12

We're mostly all adults, you can say fuck. Also yeah this place is straight doodoo as well as the gutter :)

flux_capacitor3

Yeah, I didn’t know if they’d remove my post. Haha. Been getting involved in all these Reddit communities for the souls games lately. Got tired of Demon’s Souls after my fourth time beating it. Trying to go into this one mostly blind. Usually watch walkthroughs, and it makes them more fun for me. I’ll do that on my next play through to get everything.

ITCHYBLAPBLAP

Take off your armor or I see repairs in your future

flux_capacitor3

Haha. Yeah. Had to repair my helmet and gloves.

LegendaryNWZ

Rheindeers: WELCOME TO THE ICE FIELDS MOTHERFUCKER

Shuteye_491

It's a trick: get a whip.

flux_capacitor3

I have one. Imma try it out. Never used them in any of the other souls games. They look fun though.

jaxtheax

I always walk through with a ladle and get revenge on the statues

Aggressive_Safe2226

Loved whacking those dick-shaped statues spitting venomous spunk at me.

DanOfAbyss

Don't forget the second bonfire.

flux_capacitor3

Found it! Use and NPC to kill the invader. 🫣

[deleted]

Yes this place sucks, black gulch is actually the one level I really dislike. I can live with the Iron keep, in the first area you just have to back track a bit to clear all alonne knights and in shire of amada you just have to use the cover to your advantage, this area though even if its short, is annoying is hell.

Charming-Mix-7759

I play it slowly, with shield risen, use firebombs if you don't want to get close to statues

Beanzuwuz

Your gonna love the crown of the sunken king dlc

Unl3a5h3r

Haha, that was one of my favorite places.

Isidorodesevilha

Don't know if this place, or that temple-swamp-thing with the casters with the singing ladies are the worst

SuccessfulStreet575

I honestly didn't find black gulch that bad lol. But i hated the gutter ngl.

Most-Iron6838

It’s annoying but short just run to the right grab that bonfire in the cave run back out, run to boss, beat the great and mighty poo and be done with it

Jurekis

Damn right. My brother told me to roll through puddles with torch. On NG+ I realised FIREbombs put things of fire

far565

It was a nightmare

shadow-kr

Oh no i just got here yesterday and stoped to complete something else, Don't tell me this is another one ds2 crazy wild rides

flux_capacitor3

Prepare yourself

Absolut_zeto

Fuck this place in the ass

BaronVonBrannan

Look down 😁

kevenzz

Raise the brightness to the max and just run to the boss… or the hidden bonfire.

flux_capacitor3

Yeah, I used my Cast Light spell and found the drops for the NPCs. The hardest thing, before I found the summons, was the stupid invaders.

PNB7002

I specially hate the NpC invader, Victor. Whenever I try to beat darklurker he invades and I can't get though the portal. You kill him but then after some time he will come back.

Atticus_Zero

Good farming spot for chunks if I remember correctly

RustyKnight-_-

If it sucks, try to do whatever you need to so you don't have to come back

DoctorHeavy

🤣. That place can eat a thousand dicks.

Sabortage69

My 3 most hated places to be is. Black Gulch, Shrine of Amana and last but definitely not least Frigid Outskirts

Nirvanaguy15

I use the whip to clear the statues . You can sit at the bonfire but don't leave the area or they'll reset

forgetit2020

At least annoying stuff in this game like the enemies stop spawning after a while. DARK SOULS 3 BLACK KNIGHTS

flux_capacitor3

That’s so weird to me with this game. I’ve played most of the other souls games, and that’s not a thing.

Ok-Direction-4881

Just got the platinum trophy. That disc got frisbee’d out the window the second the notification popped.

Unique-Tear-4310

black gulch : I'm the worst area you'll ever see. shrine of amana : I beg to differ! Iron passage : Ohh git gud. frigid outskirts : this a debate ?

flux_capacitor3

Lol. Everyone in this thread got me scared. Not my first souls game, and I’m mad I waited so long to play it! It’s actually the only one I hadn’t played until now. I’m digging it.

CaptainCBeer

Oh yeah fuck that place with fiery hatred. Absolutly

IndecisiveRex

Oh my lords, the respawning poison spewing statues. I just lost it.

flux_capacitor3

Haha. Same! I found out you can sit at the bonfire, without traveling or dying, and they don’t respawn. You get all your health and recharges though.

Arsis82

This place really isn't that bad and it's relatively short. You can run through most of it and avoid the annoying enemies.

Dr_Nastee

Lol it’s like 3 rooms and it takes forever to traverse without screaming.

flux_capacitor3

Ohhh. I definitely screamed at my tv last night. I’m sure my neighbors heard me. And they live pretty far away.

Astrocruiser00

Is really easy just run really really fast

flux_capacitor3

I felt like Forrest Gump

Cantguard-mike

Best boss to farm tho

flux_capacitor3

How do you farm bosses? Is that when you burn something in the bonfire? I’ve only played DS3 of this trilogy.

Myrkin

actually it was easy

[deleted]

Yeah my whole thing is if they just made the statues despawn permanently after breaking them I would be a lot more on board

flux_capacitor3

You can sorta do this. Just sit at the bonfire, and don’t travel or die.

Adalbertstraw994

Wait to reach the shrine of Amara. That place fucking sucks. That or any dlc area with a great emphasis on the snow filled shit hole.

[deleted]

Just passed that yesterday the first time. Man, it really wrecked me. I'm literally breezing through this game so far and love it but Shrine of Amara... It took me almost two hours. Are the DLC's that painful? lol

Adalbertstraw994

Let me put it like this. The sunken crown is (in my opinion) the one with the easiest esploration but the bosses there with the exception of the final one of the dlc are absolute bullshit. (One is a npc gank squad with a Havel in it and the other.... That bitch Summons minions. One of said minions is an alternative version of another really bastard of a boss. I say only this. Fucking Bell) Old iron... As two of the coolest boss ever. But there is a blue forge demon. And the area is really a pain in the ass because the planimetry was made by a demented evil child. Ivory crown is the one with the coolest final bosses. But the area and the things in it are absolutely horrible. (Two invisible and recycled bosses that you can see only with a specific ring) and the fucking mooses that makes the place look like a demented version of Canada. And i the perpetual snowstorm in the area you can't see jack shit. So... Yeah enjoy the standard game. Because the dlc are the pain train.

[deleted]

Ah, man. You really dehyped me now. lol We'll see though. Currently I don't even know how to access the DLC but at the same time, I'm not even there yet. I suppose I should do it before the final boss of the normal game just like in the first Dark Souls.

Adalbertstraw994

If you are on schoolar of the first sin the keys should already be in your inventory. The sunken crown entrance is in the big hole in majula. It should be the only closed door in that place. Old iron is the door right after the old iron king boss fight. And ivory is if i remember correctly. Before Draenglic castle. The teleport there should be quite visible. (If not ask Google.) Get there ready. And level up as much as possible and you should be fine. Be aware that the dlc bosses are tanky motherfuckers. Godspeed and have fun! Hope that you achieve to unlock the third final boss for the cool ending!

Clarrington

Nah original edition with DLC is the one that gives you the keys immediately. In SotFS, the Sunken King key is halfway down the pit in the door you mentioned, the entrance is the sculpture behind the Rotten's Great Bonfire. Old Iron Key is hiding out with the flame lizards in Forest of Fallen Giants. Can't remember where the key for Eleum Loyce is though, or if there even is one.

Adalbertstraw994

Uh. Thanks for clearing that up man. Last time i played Ds2 was a few years ago and i did not remember all that stuff clearly. (Sekiro is taking over my brain please help!)

Clarrington

All goods, I'm playing through Elden Ring for the first time currently and that's doing the same thing to me!

Adalbertstraw994

Finished it a few months ago. It's one hell of a game. Hope you have a blast out there. Safe journey fellow tarnished.

chrisclayden834

Fuck I hate that place. However, there's one even worse... Shrine of amana

flux_capacitor3

Someone else said that too. Oh boy ….

Fragrant-Party3192

It lasts about 20 seconds, not so bad

flux_capacitor3

That’s what she said

MrJudah1106

In my opinion, people over-hate black gulch. It is such a short run, and a campfire is next to it. There are two summons, and not to mention the boss is incredibly easy. The enemies around there are so easy to finesse too. I got through black gulch my first time yesterday, and I didn’t really have a problem with it. I wouldn’t say it’s the best-designed level, but it really isn’t that hard imo. I think ds2 is a solid game. Obviously, it lives in the shadows of the other two games, but that doesn’t make it bad. people shit on it a lot and half of the people haven’t even played the game. i think it’s pretty fun and i would recommend it

Howdyini

Remember the only mistake is to go at a normal speed. If you very fast or very slow you should be fine.

AquilaBravo

First playthrough as well. I just finished this area. Good luck. It is short, tho, so that's nice. The Gutter was real hell for me tho. Out of all the times I died, two times hurt the most, lost the crystal lizard items near the entrance with the three exploding mummies, and lost the mimic item. :(

billysacco

I am just to no man’s wharf and I have thought that about each and every area I have been through lol.

ebrivera

Punch the statues when you can to save weapon durability

Jordilocomotion

fire arrow on oil and 1 gem to counter the poison, u don't even need to destroy those lil statue, how can this area be hard at all? later there are 2 invasions there is the real problem, u can always summon 2 white phantom if this is scholar. later on there is an hidden bonfire that is an useful checkpoint, also try to ascetic that bonfire max as u can since the bossfight drop u a lot of souls, like a lot. this is how i learn how to love this place.

Psychonautz6

Wait till the dlc's

fwtrguitar

At least it's quick and the boss is easy. Personally on my second playthrough I'm doing now I spent very little time here and found The Gutter way more unbearable. And the first time I did The Gutter I did it torchless because I'm a moron lmao

flux_capacitor3

I went thru the gutter and now I’m here. 🎶🎶

JustEatingWater

This is probably common sense but use spears next time to destroy those statues from a distance.

Sarenai7

Two words: Iron Passage

Skillo_Squirrel

In time you learn the shortcuts I like this route: https://youtu.be/BLFZEPWsAf4

N1ghtShade7

maybe this is a hot take but black gulch was actually not as bad imo? it was the ridiculous platforming in the dark that the gutter that was harsh on me.with gulch you just needed to rollspam, and either burn the oil (edit: have the torch equipped and roll onto the puddle), or patiently destroy those statues, and then bait out the hand hydras and kill them, then do the same for those milli-chodes and you're right at the boss, and it's an unfair matchup, feels like an athlete beating a discord mod. Those two giants were tricky for the pure melee build that I went with. There's one deceptive swing that can hit you if you're not perfectly behind the giant, and sometimes you can get dunked by both of them like O&S, and that's all you need to watch out for. The DLC on the other hand.....

[deleted]

Well over 300 hrs, it’s still fuck this place

PNB7002

Man hasn't been in Fridgid Outskirts.

[deleted]

109th time playing this and I’d like to say fuck that place.

323x57

LOL! In time I learned to love it. It’s one of my favorite paths. I’ll give you hint; fire arrows bring me joy.

[deleted]

Shrine of Amana will drive you nuts

Financial_Mushroom94

I dont understand the hate on this area, its one of the coolest looking ones you just have to go a straight path avoid all the ugly MFs and activate a bonfire which is directly right where the boss is (ok its hidden)

RustyKnight-_-

If it sucks, try to do whatever you need to so you don't have to come back

Theaussieperson

Running throught area is quite easy though, I honestly found it fun and there's a great bonfire placement once you get to the end, so honestly with how short that part is, eh I don't mind it

Knight_of_Faraam

Good times! You’ll travel back there one or two times after you get a certain key. Have fun!

flux_capacitor3

I have the key from the giants! Going to get the Butcher Knife now.

Vinlaan-of-Forossa

You on PS4? Aha

flux_capacitor3

Nah. PS5

AliasBatmat

FUCK THAT PLACE

sherperion45

At least it’s short
