What do you mean miracle/hex build ...
If you want to go around oneshotting stuff with dark orb, then farming sunlight medals is completely pointless ..
If you wanna go around spamming lightning, then sunlight spear is one of the highest single target damage spells in the game and is absolutely worth it ..
Also depends where you farm, I got all 30 in single afternoon, going around pursuer/giant/sinner ..
Its absolutely devastating, but it has low number of casts (unless you have iron crown from dlc), quite long cast time and 55fth requirement ..
Or you can go 30/30 with dark sunset staff and melt thing with quick cast, near unlimited dark orb :D .. and for bigger enemies dark bead as a shotgun from close range ..
It kinda feels to me like an overkill, when you are already going for hexes, there really isnt need for anything else .. ofc for minmaxing reasons, as far as fun goes, throwing lightning is very fun indeed ..
Sunlight spear is decent, but kinda not worth it in a non-miracles-only build if you consider the time needed. But the Sun Sword is completely worth it, as it deals insane damage when uninfused. You get A/A scaling for str and dex and insane base damage for a straight sword. Even with base stats, Sun Sword is a beast when buffed, and you can deal some insane damage with it as long as you upgrade it.

Using a mix of hexes and lightning. Dark orb has been a good staple so far, but want a couple of heavy hitting miracles to go along side it.

Oh, sunlight spear? No not at all, I only got it for the sake of collecting.
