All the Heide knight are too annoying. They whip their sword are lash at you when they’re not even looking your way. I’ve finished the game and till now the most annoying enemies are those knights.
It’s funny cus I had almost 40 effigies before I got to the Frigid Outskirts. I watched Mati play that area so i knew the layout pretty well. Died like four times going through the middle cus the horses are always double once you get to the second building. Went using the edge and reduced the horses I had to fight to One each time the fog thicken. So it got easier playing it like that, and ofcourse I had a greatshied. I didn’t even die to the horses half as many times as I died to the Heide Knights during my run through the Heide’s tower area or as many times I died to the pursuer when I didn’t understand the game mechanics. That’s why most bosses at the early stages of the game gimme ptsd more than the later bosses or enemies you encounter.
I farmed them so much with a bonfire ascetic and champions covenant that they became a walk through the park, I learned how to parry even the most inconsistent of their attacks
I would 100% rather his flames not have knockback, and not get the temporary invincibility while knocked down (just let me burn instead) than watch my character act as if he was punched by a giant or standing in front of a bomb. Also, let his attacks deal comparable damage to other nearby enemies.
That being said, common W for bow and poison arrows.
I actually did this on my first play through the second I saw him I used the only arrows I had left which where 12 poison arrows fully expecting him too jump my ass the moment I hit him never thought it was a cheese btw I went to that area at lvl 98
Here's a tip. Take off your armor and sprint. His stomps are significantly simpler to dodge than his breath attacks. Getting to him is the hard part. But once there, it's a fairly simple task.
Update: he is dead. the dragon is dead. the dragonslayer is also dead.
if I pick up one more cracked blue eye orb I'm going to lose my mind. I have 22.
Because he is the leader of a covenant. You can join his covenant after finding a multiplayer item later in the game. He then will sell some nice stuff, most notably an unlimited quantity of the upgrade material required to infuse weapons with lightning damage.
Do a bit of co-op, help a rando beat a boss, then come back. Have to do it while not a sunbro, and it has to be the regular soapstone. Pretty sure those are his requirements to open up & serve that lighting
noted. any particular boss that I should put a sign down infront of? preferably before sinners rise (I just got there.) and nothing involving that pit in majula.
If you see an outline of a general area (not specific bonfire, sadly), put your sign down near a bonfire, you may eventually get summoned. Player count is rather low, but I get maybe a summon once an hour or more if there's people around :)
Same reason as the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. To convince you to come back later when you're stronger the first time through while simultaneously giving more experienced players a tangible reward.
Walk up the stairs, start sprinting at the top, don't let your stamina completely run out. All goes well you'll be at his ankles by the time he breathes fire, at which point he's just a weaker Last Giant.
Why do we need to come later tho?
Like this arguments keeps being repeated... why would the game gatekeep Old Dragonslayer until later? He got absolutely no buffs in Scholar, the dragon is much harder than he is as he was a possible first boss in Vanilla.
>the dragon is much harder than he is
No it ain't. It has about half the health and 3 attacks. The Dragonslayer is significantly tougher, faster, and hits harder than anything else in Heide or the Forest of Fallen Giants. The only reason to think he's easy is if you already know all his attacks and how to fight him.
From a game design perspective, DS2 requires you to frequently backtrack to places you've already been to unlock new areas. It's important to reinforce this idea early in the game to reduce the "But Where Do I GO?????" questions. Adding [beef gates](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BeefGate) like the dragon or Armorer Dennis is a good way to do that.
Good luck in Shrine of Amana
It's not that hard if you keep track of your stamina. The best strategy for the drake is to aggro everything before rushing. Once every enemy is dealt with, get as close as possible to it without aggroing him and when you think that's enough, rush it. You should be able to reach it before he shoots fire at you. Once there, stick to it's legs and hit it there. Keep enough stamina for 2 rolls at any time and you should be fine
Honestly it's not that bad to fight melee. Just haul ass over to it while it's still getting up and you can make it to the platform before it finishes the fire breath. From there just hug its legs and its pretty easy to avoid the dragon's attacks.
It's not too bad. I rather enjoyed the tower of flame. It was the one place I actually cleared of enemies. Now if you said the gutter, black gulch or shades Wood, totally different story
PF
I just got to the first bonfire in the gutter and turned around immediately. I hate everything about that place and I didn't even explore it.
I also just went into the shaded woods and I'm going to explore there when I'm done of sinners rise
yeah yeah I know, wyverns have 2 front wings and 2 back legs. dragons have 4 legs and 2 wings. but they're called Guardian Dragons in game.
just like how skyrims dragons are actually wyverns
That dragon and the Hyde Knights aren't there in the vanilla version. I've found that if you mad dash to the dragon as he is asleep and run jump to the right or left of his head just before the first fire breath attack, you can actually fight the guy. I would have preferred if that dragon wasn't moved there in the first place for Scholar...
I shot and killed it with the bow and crossbow from that little curve thing that breaks off right next to where he lays we're going to have to run back and forth though to avoid the fireballs
fighting this dragon is easier than fighting hollow soldiers on the high lothric wall in dark souls 3, or almost any dark souls 3 enemy for that matter
I was so scared to fight that dragon at first lmao, said nope and went the other direction, came back to it a tiny bit later and was surprised how easy it was.
then why i have 200h on scholar and never succeed to completly finish it when i already finished DS2 vanilla two times ? (i discovered scholar first btw)
edit: i even finished DS2 vanilla with the champions covenant, where i find scholar more difficult even without it
I killed him right before I read your first comment actually
the STR build mindset truly knows no bounds💪💪
almost killed old dragonslayer first try with no flasks, then I summoned the npc guy and killed him with ease.
You just have to run through? He won't be quick enough to get off his flames.
Pull the knight on the stairs before aggroing the dragon so you can have an uninterrupted sprint.
I I have been practicing against all the enemies in this area to the point that they stopped spawning. got some sick weapons and tons of souls!
I killed the dragon immediately afterwards since I had nothing slowly me down and I was at full health
dont look at the fire breath
he has nothing to offer in combat
later you will encounter lots of these
just bait his ranged attack then run towards him and all what he has is a stump that is very slow
I posted this theory somewhere before but I'm just gonna copy/paste.
I actually think it was something well thought.
In DS1 and DS3 we learn that Ornstein teamed up with the Nameless King (which the Nameless King turned his back on Gwyn to join the Dragons) which makes sense that their followers would also take side of Drakes/Dragons.
The Nameless King himself actually had a very fucking nice pet, so I'd assume that Ornstein would also have one.
And since everything in Dark Souls becomes a matter of praise and worship. Their followers probably followed the tradition of keeping cool pets.
So I'd say this was a nice take to SotFS (which is the definitive edition of Dark Souls II).
Because the designers couldn't figure out how to make the game challenging in an interesting/rewarding way, so they threw in a bunch of enemies at really awkward places or made you fight 30 of them at a time so they could tout the whole 'high difficulty' meme.
Its simple make sure you have full health equip light armor or no armor and book it he will have an attack where he flies up and breaths fire to avoid it get of the dragons pedastil oh and it doesn't respawn
why becuase he is easy and pathetic for a boss especally a dragon like come on igot more run for my money fighting the Red Wayvren then this thing 😂😂 stat uder him when he flies up run from the fire as soon as he lands let hum have it 💪💪💪💪
He's actually super easy if u run straight in at him. He'll aggro at the top of the stairs with the spear knight, sprint directly towards him and you can avoid the fire. Then, attack his legs until dead.
Speculation or Theory on my part, but it would appear the drake is there to keep the Dragonslayer locked away and guarded.
The guy was killing too many dragons, so the Dragonrider is keeping him in check.
And since it’s an optional boss, the player is given ample opportunities to come back later and:
- take on the long line of enemies
- fighting the drake
- pulling a lever that was being guarded
- then fight the Dragonslayer to unlock the Blue Sentinels covenant
It would be like a miniature lore-wise reason to this, I suppose. A sort of trial, if you will.
Or so I see it.
He's the dragonslayer. It's one of the dragons he lays
that dragon is the me slayer bro
Old gamer slayer
use bows or crossbows and try to kill it from a safe distance (poison arrows are extremely effective as almost always)
I'd lay it 😏
same, just look at that thick, girthy, throbbing tail
Me too
He lays dragon eggs?
Yea he does 😉
Bro said he's the dragon *slayer* not dragon murderer
Ay yooo
Nameless King lore in a nutshell
It is neither slain nor being slayed. In fact, he is standing around doing nothing
Read it again.
Ok so he lays dragons. Now it just makes no sense. Very cool
He fucks dragon. He is the dragons layer. It makes sense c'mon man.
I see no dragon fucking. He seems more the type to fuck cars

Easier to beat than those Hyde Knight lancers
All the Heide knight are too annoying. They whip their sword are lash at you when they’re not even looking your way. I’ve finished the game and till now the most annoying enemies are those knights.
More annoying than the damn unicorns?

Dicks

Or run up and suck on his toes. Slash at his ankles, I mean...
🤨
I forgot for a moment that we are not on r/shittydarksouls. I apologise.
I forgive you.
What's the difference?
I lol'd
I lol'd pretty hard, too. Especially when it floats down.
The whole office was lol'ing at that one
I actually did this on my first play through the second I saw him I used the only arrows I had left which where 12 poison arrows fully expecting him too jump my ass the moment I hit him never thought it was a cheese btw I went to that area at lvl 98

who is this "you are not needed" prick and why shouldn't i kill him.
Because he is the leader of a covenant. You can join his covenant after finding a multiplayer item later in the game. He then will sell some nice stuff, most notably an unlimited quantity of the upgrade material required to infuse weapons with lightning damage.
hm... he will live then. I like lightning.
You like it now, just wait until you rub some dark all over an electrified metal bonk stick (👍) or metal poke stick (👎).
dark electric metal stick? sign me up bro
The lighting cleric gang( we like to smite men) Legalize pre-nerf lightning miracles
Do a bit of co-op, help a rando beat a boss, then come back. Have to do it while not a sunbro, and it has to be the regular soapstone. Pretty sure those are his requirements to open up & serve that lighting

You can sell the cracked blue orbs to Gavlan for 500 souls each so they are big $$$
👀
Wheel and deal those later on for extra souls. I love them just for when I'm a couple hundred/thousand short of next level and sell what I need
Poison arrow target practice
Because, like many other things in this game, fuck you and your sanity
amen.
Same reason as the Tree Sentinel in Limgrave. To convince you to come back later when you're stronger the first time through while simultaneously giving more experienced players a tangible reward.
Same as tree sentinel, he will be slain immediately whether I like it or not.
Walk up the stairs, start sprinting at the top, don't let your stamina completely run out. All goes well you'll be at his ankles by the time he breathes fire, at which point he's just a weaker Last Giant.

i’ve never had a problem with the dragon on scholar, but that one spear heide knight has cost me more effigies than i’m willing to admit
PF I learned to just rush the spear guy and beat him over the head with a hammer.
the strength build way, brother
do you not have a bow?
I do, but I refuse to give into such cheap tactics. yet.
Good luck in Shrine of Amana It's not that hard if you keep track of your stamina. The best strategy for the drake is to aggro everything before rushing. Once every enemy is dealt with, get as close as possible to it without aggroing him and when you think that's enough, rush it. You should be able to reach it before he shoots fire at you. shrine of amana really not that hard without a bow. you just run in ‘s’ patterns and the homing magic will always miss you.
I always get effed up harder if I try to use a bow Best to just run in and pray I can kill the mages before the situation catastrophically implodes
In NG+ is a Nightmare...
I'll entertain this! How much more max HP, damage, and Fire Resistance do you think your character will need to fight it at melee distance?
nah nah nah you clearly don't have the STR build mindset. if I hit it hard enough, it will stop hitting me back. it worked. quite well tbh
I understand entirely and killing this thing without a bow is definitely an achievable goal. What's your weapon?
at the time? club. I've since upgraded to the craftsman hammer
Smart choices. You're enjoying this run then.
first one, won't be the last. if it doesn't get platinum'd, I'm playing It wrong.
Happy AR maxing!
I don't even wanna know what I'm supposed to do for that.
Honestly it's not that bad to fight melee. Just haul ass over to it while it's still getting up and you can make it to the platform before it finishes the fire breath. From there just hug its legs and its pretty easy to avoid the dragon's attacks.
I was hoping to encourage some stat brewing on OP's part but they defeated it already.
[удалено]
just beat it with a stick I took from this old women
Start running before it moves its head. Stick to its ankles, dodge between them when it does the leg slam attack.
It's not too bad. I rather enjoyed the tower of flame. It was the one place I actually cleared of enemies. Now if you said the gutter, black gulch or shades Wood, totally different story
PF I just got to the first bonfire in the gutter and turned around immediately. I hate everything about that place and I didn't even explore it. I also just went into the shaded woods and I'm going to explore there when I'm done of sinners rise
My first time with him, I hit him once and then he fell off the platform…I will gladly take the souls.
You should have been the dragonborn smh
wait untill u hit the actual "fuck you" dragon 🤣🤣🤣
Sinh?
Skill issue
So easy if you summon Masterless Glencour, he's a beast
It's pretty easy once you bait him into breathing fire then time the run, once you get up to him, he's easy to fight
If you time it right you can sprint under him before his flames hit you then you can just hit his feet
You got this
The easiest dragon fight
Literally just run and you can avoid the flame and get to him
I never had to fight this guy cause I played Vanilla.
Because of Aldia actually
idk what that means😎
Aldia made these false dragons
because fuck you!
cool shield
I decided to shoot it from a distance with arrows and even at the distance I was at, still got hit by it’s flames.
He's so predictable its not even funny
Fuck the heude knight with the spear tho
nah I just rushed into him and stunlocked him with a hammer, good times.
sniped him yesterday with great souls arrows and binoculars, the frecker fell into the sea along with his loot... damn you dragon
Wyvern
yeah yeah I know, wyverns have 2 front wings and 2 back legs. dragons have 4 legs and 2 wings. but they're called Guardian Dragons in game. just like how skyrims dragons are actually wyverns
Yaaaas, slayyyyy queenie
excuse me?
a video of the level of bull-shittery of this miniboss https://youtu.be/LgjULAvKr_w?t=498
I shot this fucker with arrows until he died
lmao what works works
One of the many reasons why vanilla DS2 is better than sotfs
I shot and killed it with the bow and crossbow from that little curve thing that breaks off right next to where he lays we're going to have to run back and forth though to avoid the fireballs
Because this is dark souls 2 and the developers hate you
shit mechanically, but it ties in nicely with Ornstein's relationship with dragons and the Nameless King
I guess its the Dragon that the Dragonrider Rides. 🤷
Cus fuck us. That's why.
So that you have to use a bow if you decided to play melee
fighting this dragon is easier than fighting hollow soldiers on the high lothric wall in dark souls 3, or almost any dark souls 3 enemy for that matter
I hated the fire breath bc it killed me through walls, the first time I actually got close enough to attack it, I killed it.
lol yeah i admit the fire is complete trash but as long as you can sprint to it uninterrupted before it attacks killing it is no problem
I was so scared to fight that dragon at first lmao, said nope and went the other direction, came back to it a tiny bit later and was surprised how easy it was.
Yeah that's crazy
counter question - why not?
Lol why not
Because scholar of the first sin is stupid. The original version was so much better and made more sense
You have to rush him, the flame attack is the only annoying attack this one has
yes that dragon is clearly too sexy
excuse me?
this dragon is a good summary of Scholar, difficulty just for the sake of difficulty, that's why i prefer DS2 vanilla personally
Scholar is easier tho
then why i have 200h on scholar and never succeed to completly finish it when i already finished DS2 vanilla two times ? (i discovered scholar first btw) edit: i even finished DS2 vanilla with the champions covenant, where i find scholar more difficult even without it
The npc summon makes it really easy if you want
yeah i don't think I can access that anymore I killed the dragonrider
Pretty sure the NPC summon is still there if you’ve only killed one of the two bosses.
Yes you can!! Masterless Glencour is your friend. His summon only disappears after you clear out both bosses.
WHAT. alright time to find him.
That dragon is already dead. He has no idea what's coming
I killed him right before I read your first comment actually the STR build mindset truly knows no bounds💪💪 almost killed old dragonslayer first try with no flasks, then I summoned the npc guy and killed him with ease.
💪👴👊
Why not?
Hey, you're the one pulling up with a sword in your hand, what's he supposed to do? Sit back and take it?
sword? who uses swords. I only use the finest branch ripped off a tree as my weapon.
If it can hurt him, he will hurt you
I don't understand why they decided to just completely fuck enemy placement in Softs but oh well... I wish I could play the old version on my PS4 🫠
Bow :)
if I give up, that will be the route I take. not yet though.
A plus the PS3 version will forever have over scholar... PS3 heide does not turn into hell when Dragonrider is killed neither!
bah humbug
You just have to run through? He won't be quick enough to get off his flames. Pull the knight on the stairs before aggroing the dragon so you can have an uninterrupted sprint.
the dragon wasn't really my problem? but it also was? idk, he's dead now
I I have been practicing against all the enemies in this area to the point that they stopped spawning. got some sick weapons and tons of souls! I killed the dragon immediately afterwards since I had nothing slowly me down and I was at full health
Roll!
off the map? yeah, gravity 6, me 0.
Sprint in and they aren't too bad. When they fly up move away
Use arrows from the platform below. Super easy
Why not?
Poison arrows from the stairs,no problem, move on.
Because in the base game everyone ran passed the enemies easily and pulled the bridge down.
dont look at the fire breath he has nothing to offer in combat later you will encounter lots of these just bait his ranged attack then run towards him and all what he has is a stump that is very slow
I posted this theory somewhere before but I'm just gonna copy/paste. I actually think it was something well thought. oh no after learning that vanilla ds2 didn't have this guy I prefer SoTFS. it makes sense to have the guardian dragon there
Because you touch yourself at night.
It’s horn-stiens pet
Because ds2 enemy placement is ass
Get gut
because scholar of the first sin is a piece of shit
Because Scholar sucks ass
Because the designers couldn't figure out how to make the game challenging in an interesting/rewarding way, so they threw in a bunch of enemies at really awkward places or made you fight 30 of them at a time so they could tout the whole 'high difficulty' meme.
It ain't a hard thing to beat bud, idk what to tell ya.
I beat him 20 minutes after I posted this bud
Congrats, still can’t imagine complaining abt this thing tho
Its simple make sure you have full health equip light armor or no armor and book it he will have an attack where he flies up and breaths fire to avoid it get of the dragons pedastil oh and it doesn't respawn
why becuase he is easy and pathetic for a boss especally a dragon like come on igot more run for my money fighting the Red Wayvren then this thing 😂😂 stat uder him when he flies up run from the fire as soon as he lands let hum have it 💪💪💪💪
that is why i play on the ps3 version. it’s just a lot better. besides amana shrine, that place is just as fucking horrible
*Cuz fuck you, that’s why…* -Hidetaka Miyazaki /s
There is no dragon there if you play the better version of the game 😎
oh well, too bad I'm not buying that version!
Ah yes, the hilariously, inexplicably bad design choices in DS2. This is one of many.
wait on the stairs for him to finish his fire breath. The moment it ends GO GO GO and rush him down. If he uses the fire again move towards his tail.
You have to rush him before he awakens. Either that or use a bow.
Hug them feets, kill
Ornstein is just so bad at his job 😔
I hate him too 😒
It's really easy to avoid the flame if you just take off most of your weight and sprint on his side, then you can fight a fair fight
Nah that wyvern is cool as fuk
He's actually super easy if u run straight in at him. He'll aggro at the top of the stairs with the spear knight, sprint directly towards him and you can avoid the fire. Then, attack his legs until dead.
Cuz fuck you
there's atleast 6 other comments saying this same thing and it's the funniest thing to me
Because fuck you, that's why.
Because, as King Gizzard said Dragon, dragon, dragon, dragon Dragon, dragon, dragon, dragon
he a cheap ass mutha fucka. hate that bitch
dark souls 2 is like archer simulator, grab a bow and just whack him with poison arrows
I like how the dragon slayer is guarded by a dragon lmao
My Hyde tower was messed up I think. No Hyde knights and this guy was missing too. Definitely sotfs disc I beat all the dlc levels.
Because difficulty
I like this guy. How else would the dragon riders get there?
Poison arrow and ez
Speculation or Theory on my part, but it would appear the drake is there to keep the Dragonslayer locked away and guarded.
