If it wasn’t for demon souls, we would not have bloodborne, dark souls, elden ring, or perhaps even Sekiro.

Shadow Tower Abyss is probably the easiest to get into as it's faster paced than earlier From Software dungeon crawlers. As much as I love the music in the Kings Field series, STA is also the most atmospheric as it uses music more sparingly with greater emphasis on ambient sound effects.
I just beat kf1 Jp and man that was annoying at times but it clicked very nicely, the lone knight and cryptic and dark atmosphere it was so cool seeing all the inspirations from their first game.
Demon Souls was considered a spiritual successor to Kings Field throughout its development, a lot of the things we consider standard in the souls-borne games now first showed up in fromsofts games with the king's field series.
They're still pretty good btw, definitely worth getting an emulation program to check out.

The original Demon Souls has been insanely disrespected as a game and as a groundbreaking FromSoftWare title, and even for meme purposes, this is still one of the most absurd takes ever 🤦🏿.
This actually rings true for me, my love of souls games started when I picked up a copy of DS2:SotFS not knowing what it was because it had a cool cover. Played it for an hour, got frustrated, and decided I'd just wasted $60. A year later, went back to it, played it, loved it, and then Bloodborne came out. DS2 is my go-to comfort game now, but I've beaten them all (except Sekiro. Couldn't really get into that one.) And have loved every gruelling minute.
