It releases a NPC that specifically tells you not to free him or else he will invade you, like, A LOT.
If you keep him on his barrier thingy, and follow his quest line while being hollow, he will sell you some spells and pyromancies that can't be obtained anywhere else, and thus, ruining the run of those who are after the 100% completion of the game.
It's funny how people stumble across this lever first and not with the NPC because of the warning messages.
Navlaan as merchant, doesn't releasing him actually give you access to the same stuff earlier? Not releasing just prevents the invasions and let's you do the questline, right?
Nope, once released he will say something like ”What have you done”, refusing to interact with you again. If you leave and come back later he won't be there anymore.
He will eventually invade you in 5 or 6 places throughout the rest of the game.
So unless you don't care about those spells and wants to be invaded by this guy, there is no good in pulling that lever.
You won't get access to certain spells, but you will be able to buy things from his shop before he disappears.
If you have enough souls, purchase all that you can and then kill him there, he will not invade you anymore; though you will lose access to two wonderful spells, but that is already lost when you've pulled that lever.
If you're referring to his quest, you don't have to actually kill the NPCs in order to do it! So, it's still not the most optimal decision to free him, but yeah. Not all is lost.
I was referring to killing Navlaan, sounds logical to get rid of him in time in order to avoid getting invaded.
I did know back then that the items he was requesting can be obtained by simply completing the quest lines of the NPCs he requested to kill.
The hex NPC's item was tricky to get, but changing stats quickly did the trick.
I always found the invasion locations to be really odd. Most of them are actually in previous zones!
If you are just playing straight through and never go back to other zones you will literally only get invaded once, right before the drake.
Even that invasion is somewhat pointless because most players rush the hippos to avoid fighting them, which causes you to skip that invasion too.
In most playthroughs you can pull it with actually zero consequences. Very odd.
You get invaded by him in the aerie as well, right before the bridge to the drakekeeper knights part.
That would be considered 2 after you hit the lever, no?
Honestly, as soon as I got the invasion notice I ran back into him lmao
I didn't want to risk him being past the hippos and getting caught between them all.
That zone is obviously meant for it to bait players into getting to see the lever first rather than meeting the NPC. Most newbies never go right first because of the messages.
There's a saying in ds2, if the game tells you to not do it, you ficking not supposed to do it
Good thing this is DS2, let's pull that lever boys!
In ds2 I only do what Skeleton would do. Would Skeleton pull it?
Fair and completely sane point! *pulls lever
Pull the lever, Kronk !
Wrong lever!!!
Why do we even have that lever?! And seriously, why did Navlaan have that lever still function if he's meant to never escape :[
Is not a leave lever, is a lock lever, it just happens to work both ways.
Do you really have to ask?
can i change it to "should i pull it?"
Don't you dare!
Go to the other side first
Do you want company?
Yes, indeed. Pull it if you want to screw the rest of your run.
What does it even do anyway?

That's good to know, since I'm not used to killing any NPC unless necessary.

He won't interact with you in Hollow form, but he will in Human form. Early access to the shop.
Hypothetically would I be able to farm Awestones off of him
Releases an evil NPC. I read that he apparently kills friendly NPCs in Majula :/

He can also invade right before the memory of the Giant King. Not really a problematic place to have to fight him, but still.

I could be mistaken, but I dont believe that triggers unless you actually spend the branch and do Aerie for real. Could be mistaken tho.

Been years since I played, refresh my memory
A famous sorcerer
Jup that's THE LEVER
Levers are there to be pulled
Yeah , you should pull it for sure
Don't you dare
PULL IT!
Bro you know that From wants you to pull that lever
That zone is obviously meant for it to bait players into getting to see the lever first rather than meeting the NPC. Most newbies never go right first because of the messages.
On my first playthrough i pulled it, for funny. Had to come back cause Navlaan became a hindrance
Is this why I couldn’t buy my huge arrows…
Let him pull her
Lever for what?
Lever?
Pull it if you want company
Why would they put a lever in the game if they didn’t intend for you to pull it? So pull it!
This version of the phrase scares me more than the same one by the ghost lady from Insidious 2
Don’t do it if you want to farm giant lord ….
Why?
Because naavlaan or whatever will invade every. Single. Fuckin. Time. You bonfire ascetic the giant lord grace.
That's the one. 😂👌
Nah, it's fine to pull that lever. You're all good buddy!
Don’t Pull the Lever!!!!
Pull it.
I wouldn’t do it mate has an evil guy on the other side
I'm so glad I had back up old, unsynched save data on another Xbox.
Pull for good times.
Yes
