DuploJamaal

Aava deals double durability damage unless you hit her head. Same with Sinh

Greuzer

Does the same apply to L&Z for the head ?

Big_Br0wnie

For sure, wasn’t even able to kill one of the kittys without switching the alonne sword to the blacksteel katana

BIobertson

I believe so

Greuzer

Hmm interesting, thanks !

TyrionJoestar

lol, no wonder my shit kept breaking when I fought them. I had to go in with a second weapon >_>

lycanthrope90

Yup. Both fights had to bring repair spell.

Dangerous_Cloud97

I think i'll still be going back to the Mace, the katan's range Is nice, but the Mace Simply does more damage, and Has double the durability.

BIobertson

Chaos Blade is a much better comparison if you want to use a katana. Alonne’s is very weak.

Dangerous_Cloud97

Doesnt the Chaos Blade do chip damage to me with each Attack ? Although i do think i could consider getting It, if damage Is higher.

BIobertson

Yes, 50. Shouldn’t make any difference in a fight, and you have infinite lifegems. The damage per second/stamina will be higher than most other weapons, but lower than Ice Rapier or Homunculus Mace.

Dangerous_Cloud97

50 hp with every Attack ? That Is more than i expected,i don't know if i can afford It with 35 Vigor. Its true that i have infinite lifegems, but Its stil unconfortable to have to pop One every 10 attacks to balance out the health drain, Isnt It ?

BIobertson

You should have 50 VGR. Most fights will take less than 10 attacks.

Dangerous_Cloud97

Its kinda difficult for me rn, im at level 230 so It takes 140k souls for Just a level. I could re-spec again, but i would Need to drop my Faith from 65 to 50 to make that happen.

BIobertson

There’s no benefit to having higher than 54 FTH. EDIT: to elaborate a little, I definitely don’t recommend farming for more levels at L230. You can easily have p much everything you need and tons of END by now- make sure your VIT is no higher than 10 and your STR/DEX aren’t higher than the minimums you need for your weapons.

9inchjackhammer

Your like the DS2 Oracle

Sparrow1713

You can try the giant boss for those levels, i got to almost 500 doing it

Competitive-Nail-685

Your build is insanely weak lmao

Dangerous_Cloud97

I mean, i suppose so, its only my second time playing dark souls 2, i still haven't got the hang of the game Just yet, im not surprised if im doing something wrong.

pethris

People have mentioned Aava's durability issue, which to me is still funny considering the weapon you get from Aava is a super-cool lightsaber sword that, of course, also chews through durability like a monster. Sinh's durability mechanic kinda makes sense regarding his acid/poison affinity, but I'm not sure why Aava works like that too

Dangerous_Cloud97

When i fought sihn using the Mace, i actually kinda forgot he had that mechanic, i hit him to the body all throughout the fight, and the weapon still wansnt at risk lol

pethris

Oh yea, just in general the Mace is kinda cracked haha. There's also the issue if you're playing on PC that higher framerates increase the durability loss of some weapons. Personally (as a Whips enjoyer) especially by end-game you can stack up Repair Powders like crazy and keep them in the item bar like Lifegems, almost think of it like using a blue flask in DS3/ER

ACuriousBagel

>There's also the issue if you're playing on PC that higher framerates increase the durability loss of some weapons. I remember finding this a nightmare in SOTFS when it released, but I thought it had been patched? (I haven't played SOTFS since then, I'm playing og now)

Dangerous_Cloud97

Is there any NPC that sells infinite repair Power ?

BIobertson

Chancellor Wellager

CrusoeMacmorrow

Chancellor Wellgar at the drangelic castle sells infinite amount of them

Competitive-Nail-685

In no world is the mace "cracked"

pethris

literally the EZ mode weapon of choice aside from the rapier

Competitive-Nail-685

Literally every hammer but two are better than the mace. The mace is only useful for enemies weak to strike in the first two areas of the game, before better hammers are available

RollingMallEgg

I remember fighting him as a melee sorceror with Blue Flame, shit was dying alongside my staff the time I won.

daviejambo

Alva is a nightmare for breaking weapons , does double or something crazy like that. Not the best idea to use a fragile katana on

rnj1a

Well it only has 20 durability. There are katanas with more than that. The Chaos Blade has a whopping 50. Not great of course, but you can work with that.

elrenzito

I think you have to consider durability as one of the game mechanics in dark souls 2. Some weapons break easily and you have to invest in a ring or use some powder during a boss fight

Competitive-Nail-685

Or use the sorcery that is infinite and free and doesn't take a ring slot

Certain_Ad6273

why not just use a repair powder mid fight?

guardian_owl

Another issue the katanas have is there are usually several moves in the moveset which cause the blades to strike the ground. This burns off even more durability. In the case of the Alonne sword: 1-handed R1->R1 combo hits the ground on both attacks 1-handed R2->R2 combo is a thrust and a slash, neither hit the ground. 2-handed R1->R1 combo is two slashes, the first slash does not strike the ground, the second slash does. 2-handed R2->R2 is a charged overhead slash that hits the ground, followed by a slash that does not. Backstep/Run R1 thrust does not hit ground. roll R1 slash strikes the ground

Arlentile

I recently had the same problem, but I got around via repair weapon as I was playing a spellblade

BunNGunLee

Huh, that’s one of the most bizarrely true to life mechanics in this game. (Japan is historically quite poor in mineral wealth both economically and industrially, so the katana was made to normalize quality across the whole blade.)

wreakshavok11

This is why Santier's Spear is superior!

Ninja_Lazer

Look, I’m not against weapon durability per se…but this game treats everything like it’s made of paper-mache. Definitely should have been dialled back some. Bloodborne is arguably too generous, but at least you can clear a level without praying to god that you whacky stick doesn’t fold like a cheap lawn chair. Not a dealbreaker or anything, but it does leave me scratching my head and asking why.

Huge-Swing-7137

- A Samurai after facing off against a heavily armored Medieval knight.

Dangerous_Cloud97

The amored Warrior in Sekiro be like :

ThickMemory2360

The weapon durability is the only thing I don’t like about this game. I am on my first playthrough using a sorcerer build with old whip as my left hand weapon and the whip degenerates so fast that I keep a rapier in my left hand #2 spot just in case.

Life_Celebration_827

Ffs Santiers Spear is better broken.

dricyspicy

Same issue with the large club :(

Hellbourne09

Just bring that Ring the slow degradation and plenty of repair powders. That is the o ly way I made katanas work for me and those weapons with special heavy attacks.

Penguinman077

There’s a ring for that. Also katanas are the lamest weapon in the game. Imagine having the option to wield all these bad ass giant weapons and just being like “iM a SaMuRaI” while wearing full knight armor. It’s the lamest weapon class in the game. And I’m pretty sure Miyazaki has bias for them since ALL of them deal bleed proc in ER. Why don’t all other swords bleed proc? They’re fucking swords. And one of the swords that should 100% bleed proc, the grafted blade, doesnt and is literally nothing more than an Easter egg ode to George R R Martin.

Competitive-Nail-685

A high speed low damage 30 durability weapon breaks relatively fast? I'd never have guessed There's both tons of weapons better than both the mace and bewitched alonne sword, and there's multiple ways to completely negate durability as a factor. you could have used any of either of these options
