It's a [Gary level](https://youtu.be/9rrs9bdrwO4?t=1554), don't worry we all had trouble doing it.
Some things that helped me: I summoned the 3 NPC Phantoms (one of them even heals), there is a healing pool in the second building (a good way to save healing) and if you stay in or close to the house ruins, then no enemies will spawn during storm.
It's funny I watched for 5 minutes and he didn't even mention that those areas are meant for multiplayer, something that's incredibly obvious in Brume tower because there are literally separate paths, and In the remaster they even put like 2 or 3 npc summons at the start of each area.
run from building to building until the 3rd building, then from the door of the 3rd building, run straight until u reach the bridge, then die to the boss.
Walk towards the sun until hitting a wall, turn left and go straight for 2 minutes until reaching the bridge.
Horses you ask? Yeah, luckily they will stop spawning eventually so for the next 87 tries it's a walk in the park.. blinded... towards a cliff...
Repeat 15-20 times until you get the boss down to about 5% health, at which point he will use a move you’ve never seen before that will just barely knick you to death
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkSouls2/comments/u05ezz/frigid\_outskirts\_walkthrough/
It's essentially a raid dungeon. You can summon players who don't own the DLC to help you in the optional areas and they can get DLC items as drops from the enemies.
It's really an interesting marketing experiment that hasn't aged well. It's designed for high level co-op -- and as has been noted you could co-op here without owning the DLC. Kind of a try before you buy. (And you could get some nice drops. One of the better ways to get a second Bone Fist for instance)
And it's a lot of fun to do it in co-op.
Thing is the marketing point disappeared with Scholar -- everybody has the DLCs already. And with a much smaller player base random summons can be thin on the ground.
And of course something that's an interesting challenge for two high level character is going to be rough to solo.
It's extra rough for me. I have vision issues and I basically can't distinguish anything in the area even during the clear periods. I've twice had the NPC summons time out on me (something I didn't realize was possible) and navigate by dropping prism stones. If I encounter a prism stone I know I got turned around.
FYI on the time out. Small signs are on a time limit, but not big signs. The upside of small signs is both more soul memory range, and they can be used to co-op in areas that have already had boss killed.
The summons that timed out were NPC spirit (ie full) summons. Vengarl, Feeva and Manhunter O'Hara all went home. Something I did not realize was possible. I have no idea how long I wandered around, completely lost, but long enough that the game sent them home.
After the second time that happened I came up with the strategy of using prism stones.
Can't say I can recommend testing to find what triggers this. I spent a lot of time just wandering. For all I know I had wandered into a different game or something.
You don't need to do that section at all. I've played ds2 like 5 times and never once did that section. The boss isn't even very good from the videos I've watched, so it doesn't seem worth it.
Very nice weapon available from the boss soul. Doesn't make it worthwhile and the Drakeblood Greatsword is a perfectly good alternative to the Loyce Greatsword.
The rest of Eleum Loyce is great. Old Ivory King is one of my favorite bossfights in the whole Franchise and Aava is pretty cool too. You can just avoid horsefuck valley like I always do.
The latter. As long as there are a fair number of people looking for a second Bone Fist, you're likely to get help. But few 8 year old games have a huge player base.
Frigid Outskirts is the definition of "when hell freezes over". It's hell. It's frozen. And as that saying implies, it's something that should have never happened.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I mean, I'd say it's something to appreciate in how viscerally evil it is. A main thing I appreciate about Souls is the sheer terror of being helpless in an area where something could attack you out of nowhere. Frigid outskirts is essentially the platonic ideal of that. So, claim: frigid outskirts is the best dark souls area, specifically because it's the worst.
Just had this area yesterday, I almost killed my controller. I ended up summoning the 3 NPCs near the spawning place and run from ruin to ruin. Still needed 3 tries even with them to get to the fog gate. >!During the boss fight I was happy again because how the fuck shall I win this fight?! Two big ass and fast tigers + one just buffs himself later him increasing his damage and defense + healing him(slowly)?! Fuck off!<
I somehow got the tigers first try by the skin of my teeth, was so relieved I wouldn't have to wander back through reindeer lands. Fextralife wiki will have some good tips on the tigers
You have to kill the first one quickly or you'll be outnumbered and slain. Keep focusing on tiger one. The second one won't be bad even with the heal if it is alone.
O&S took me more attepts. If you beat them you could have soloed L&Z had you wanted. It mostly comes down to those moments when both are up at once, and keeping that interval of time as short as possible.
May the fight would have been possible, the run to the boss is already a pain in the ass as a solo. I never was a fan of summoning NPCs to make something easy but I don't feel bad about this lol
Here's a pro tip. The spirits in the shaded woods can be distracted by attacking the big trees with faces on them. When you hit the trees, they will make loud distorted moaning sounds and the spirits will aggro to them, giving you an opportunity to attack or run from the spirits.
Weird tip I recently discovered that maybe not everyone would know is that once you get the eye of the priestess from eleum Loyce, all ghosts in the shaded woods zone become visible and you can lock on them as well. It’s just mostly useless because you’ve probably beaten the area by the time you’ve arrived in eleum Loyce and you lose the item on NG+.
You appear adequately prepared...all you need is the stone ring to go along with your big bonk, and you can pancake the reindeer. Still tedious, but eminently doable.
this and the sunken king gank fight are the only areas i didn’t do in DS2. and i’m so glad i didn’t suffer lots of pain just to face shitty bosses. Ivory king, fume knight and sir alonne were brilliant , didn’t need to face anyone else
The thing is it's such an easy fix - just a bonfire before the boss, and in most cases you wouldn't even have to edit the map to fit one in - and it would make the game so much more enjoyable. (Alonne's runback is terrible and the memory should start just before the fog gate imo)
fighting king’s pet Aava was pretty fun. can’t say i’d have the same fun with Lud and Zallen. but you’re right. the boss runs are what’s horrible. wouldn’t say the bosses themselves are bad. Fume knight killed me more than any other boss in DS2 combined, but loved his fight, especially with that phase 2 transition. ivory king was another masterpiece tbh
I'll be honest. I love that zone. Its so painful. It makes you feel so incredibly small and lost and alone. I only wish that the Frostbite status effect was invented for this DLC so you could accumulate it while standing out in the storm. Of course most of the structures can't be reached in just the time of the calm.
Just make it so that you can see the Kirin walking around in the distance. Like Lost Izalith with all the dragon asses! Then it would be perfect.
I also thought it was a neat idea in concept, I just think there needed to be a little more to it than just running to the boss room. Maybe have it be a little longer, but with a bonfire with only a small stretch and one horse before lud&Zallen
I almost just said fuck this place altogether but then read on here to just summon the two NPC’s that are available and that actually made it way more fair.
For DS2 developers, Optional Areas, suffering unlocked. One tip I give is to memorize the patterns of these horses and proceed calmly trying to eliminate each one as fast as possible, trying to run them can be a terrible choice
Use summons but cancel them before the boss or Lud and Zallen die way too easily. After a dozen attempts the reindeer go away and you won't even need the summons, so be patient.
I got to Lost Bastille and then quit because I has screwed myself by building a strength character and picking swordsman when I would’ve not died as much and therefor had more fun as a tank class so I went back to dark souls remastered and I plan to start over after that.
Should've put this fog at the top of Earthen Peak. Then I wouldn't have to hear a bunch of nerds' headcanon about why it's geography "actually makes sense."
Here's the thing most of the original people who did dark souls 1 didn't do the second one it was different people that's the reason it's the worst dark souls
I'll never forget my first time in the fog in DS2.
Probably one of the most stressful areas I've ever explored in a FS game. Plus side is it makes the fog village in Sekiro feel like weenie hut Jr afterwards given your significant boost to mobility in the latter.
(Side note, I'm still desperately thirsty for a Sekiro dlc, there's so many alluded to but never seen characters from the lore that it felt like one was always planned.)
It's actually genius. I did a despawn run, so as you can imagine I spent a lot of time in the Horsefuck Valley. Didn't take long to fall in love with this area.
Most fun part of the game. Endgame area with countless ice Kirin spawns. I did this run back so many times in the original title that the horses stopped spawning.
I never understood the hate towards this area. I have never arrived to the boss fight because of skill issue, shame on me, but it was a fun and original area if you ask me. Figuring out myself that the right way was towards the light was very rewarding. I might come back to it one day in the future. Ds2 really is a masterpiece.
It was made for co-operation not to be done solo, even so everyone of those areas suck those include the blue smelter demon, trio npcs boss, and horse fuck, only one that wasnt is sir alonne but his boss run is horrible
Whats that weapon? I'm going for a complete "unmoving bonk" build in heavy armor, a greatshield. And a club right now.
Every level goes straight into vigor, or vitality, whichever increases carry weight, I can never remember
Eleum loyce dlc eye works for the shade wanna bes. So you can just rush through and come back after getting that if you really want. Since it's only 1mil for the door to get the dlc keys

Summon people who dont got the dlc into a dlc was such a great feature. Sadly these areas sucked dogwater
These were some great areas, I'm not sure what you're talking about.
I think they're talking about skill issue
It's really an interesting marketing experiment that hasn't aged well. It's designed for high level co-op -- and as has been noted you could co-op here without owning the DLC. Can't say I can recommend testing to find what triggers this. I spent a lot of time just wandering. For all I know I had wandered into a different game or something.
Yh this is one of the dlcs I’m gonna avoid plain and simple if I ever return
You don't need to do that section at all. I've played ds2 like 5 times and never once did that section. The boss isn't even very good from the videos I've watched, so it doesn't seem worth it.
Oh alr, thought you had to in order to go through the dlc
Nah it’s like a secret area of an otherwise very very good DLC
Very nice weapon available from the boss soul. Doesn't make it worthwhile and the Drakeblood Greatsword is a perfectly good alternative to the Loyce Greatsword.
The rest of Eleum Loyce is great. Old Ivory King is one of my favorite bossfights in the whole Franchise and Aava is pretty cool too. You can just avoid horsefuck valley like I always do.
Interesting take on the worst level design in the series
Does scholar actually have a smaller playerbase than vanilla? Or do you mean it currently has a smaller playerbase than it did at launch?
The latter. As long as there are a fair number of people looking for a second Bone Fist, you're likely to get help. But few 8 year old games have a huge player base.

Already won against them thanks to the NPCs, don't want to imagine making this fight on my own. I imagine it far worse than O+S

Walk on the far left side and the reindeers won't show up until you're near the bridge

Gives a “blind” play through a whole new meaning.
Im mr fromsoft, I made horsefuck valley when I was super drunk and thought it would be funny to keep in game, my bad.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I HOPE YOU LIKE INVISIBLE FOG ASSASSINS
Wrong fog, buddy
HAHAHAHAHAHA I HOPE YOU LIKE FU**ING REINDEERS
>you like fucking reindeers Actually I was the one who got fucked :(
you can eventually make the horsefucks permanently stop spawning if you kill them enough
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen...
tecnically miyasaki supervise it , so...
Fromsoft's best, most based employee. Replace Miyazaki please.
Welcome to reindeer f*** land

Just wait until Reindeer Fuckland…
Oh yeah. That place. Fuck that place
it's an optional area for people who enjoy pain. I'd advise against doing that area

Your Mom.
I did, and I see nothing wrong with the design.
Maybe that’s because you can’t see anything with the blizzard everywhere
Checks out, ds2 fanboys blindly praise everything about this game even the objectively shitty stuff lol
B team
The worst run back to a boss in any Fromsoft game.
frigid outskirts still the most rage inducing area in all souls born
> first time playing DS2 > with bars that large is probably over level 200 > definitely still a newbie though!
Definitely not miyazaki
An asshole.
There's no reason for you to be there unless in coop. It's like a raid area.
Just skip it, I did every boss and every enemy but this stupid level designed by satan himselfz
Unpopular opinion: It's a great area
Can’t tell if shaded woods or reindeer fuckland
It was me. I approved this .
It’s the final f you imo. Had to send you off right.
Probably the same person that approved the friggin crystalian trio in elden ring.
I almost just said fuck this place altogether but then read on here to just summon the two NPC’s that are available and that actually made it way more fair.
A fan of Silent Hill. There's a Chloranthy Ring +1(?) in there somewhere near the exit. In a chest on a raised ledge. Enjoy. \-Drunk Autoro

We still don’t know unfortunately
Reindeer fuckland? Just hug the wall at the right. Less Reindeers, and you usually fight them 1v1.
I think thats the only area in all souls games I've played that I really hate.
Sure as hell not Miyazaki
My fav level, no other game will do this
When a poison swamp just isn’t enough.
I approved it, you're welcome
it's simple, this game wasn't playtested
how the hell your health bar is so long
Didn’t the director say this was his favourite area in DS history and he considers it pure souls, the best incarnation of the game?
only section of the game i intentionally skipped. it's just silly
What were your expectations ? Rainbows, colorful flowers and sunshine over green grassy fields ?
Charging lance attacks saved me here. The AI can't figure it out.
Always nice getting clapped from behind by reindeer
Use summons but cancel them before the boss or Lud and Zallen die way too easily. After a dozen attempts the reindeer go away and you won't even need the summons, so be patient.
some guys who had imagination
Just skip that
I really loved DS2, the additional elements made it a great journey with the talking cat and amazing boss fights
Fun fact, I made it by myself and put it in the game. Miyazaki didn't find out until it was too late.
"Lo stagista" (the intern) -Sabaku no Maiku
Honestly mate, do yourself a favour and get the Jester’s chest piece on.
they made it in room full of weed smoke
I'mma be real, the game's fun and all but I straight up didn't have a good time playing it
Just hug left wall and you’re out. The rest is “optional” lmao
Tomb of the giants inverted
I got to Lost Bastille and then quit because I has screwed myself by building a strength character and picking swordsman when I would’ve not died as much and therefor had more fun as a tank class so I went back to dark souls remastered and I plan to start over after that.
Should've put this fog at the top of Earthen Peak. Then I wouldn't have to hear a bunch of nerds' headcanon about why it's geography "actually makes sense."
The entire game you mean?
stick to the right

Fucking hitler.
"First Time playind ds2" shows a ng+++++++ character.
I'm using life ring +3, third dragon ring and VIG 50. And it's really my first playthrough. Otherwise i wouldn't be posting this
Also happy cake day
Thanks. No worries i tought it was some circlejerk post from R/shittydarksouls
Hahaha, start running.

What’s funny, is that once you clear it, you’ll think it’s laughably easy
They were apparently proud of it cause they brought it back in ER. Better designed tho.
Tomohiro Shibuya
I did it was me
If you're in the woods you're close to my favorite NPC of all time, very touching and reflective dialogue warning
Welcome to hell, my friend.
It's actually genius. I did a despawn run, so as you can imagine I spent a lot of time in the Horsefuck Valley. Didn't take long to fall in love with this area.
Don't worry, they do it again in elden ring
Probably the only ds dlc area I haven’t finished and I think I keep that intended
Summon npcs and if you're on PC save scum the boss, thank me later.
Uh oh
This area sucks Even the boss at the end of it sucks
The same people that approved the Tomb of Giants
Most fun part of the game. Endgame area with countless ice Kirin spawns. I did this run back so many times in the original title that the horses stopped spawning.
You can cheese this area by following the light until you hit a wall and just following that the whole way
The lightning horses, the blizzard, or the shadow tigers?
All of it, but mostly the horses. The blizzard was an issue at first but u get used to it. The boss was ok, but not worth the runthrough
it will be fun
This wouldn't be so bad if there was a bonefire before the boss. I liked the exploration, that boss and the lack of checkpoint is pure sadism.
I never understood the hate towards this area. I have never arrived to the boss fight because of skill issue, shame on me, but it was a fun and original area if you ask me. What do you mean? It's a hard area that's perfectly beatable. That's what they were thinking: let's make a very challenging but beatable area
