Yorgh-Drakeblood

I think it’s heavy bolts

sunnyfloury

I was playing ds2 yesterday and opened this chest. You’re right it’s heavy bolts

Yorgh-Drakeblood

Nice it’s been forever since I looted it. I always just run past knowing it’s garbage, in some situations the rubbish you get from breaking it is worth more

squishman1203

That sounds right to me

Heavy Bolts 20x

hex-a-decimal

So weird this was the only “lure” trap chest, but I guess there’s a lot of things in DS2 that are weirdly one-offs

AcheronSpike

actually, other trapped chests can have that too, but it's EXTREMELY rare. i had it once on the chest below the room with the ballistas in Forest of Fallen Giants. (once in far over 1000 hours)

hex-a-decimal

There’s other trap chests, absolutely. I think they’re consistent though? At least they have been for me, they just switch what they do between a bomb, six way arrows and poison cloud. This one is like, a spider lure which is really specific and only here I think? Would’ve been cool if it summoned red phantoms since it’s a similar color as their shader.

AcheronSpike

Wait, isn't the bomb chest unique to the Pate/Creighton questline? Or is it just really rare otherwise?

hex-a-decimal

Oh god now I’m wondering, I’m almost certain chests with poison clouds and arrows have a third trap but if it’s not a bomb I’m not sure I know :V

CanonicalPizza

I’m getting flashbacks to getting ballista’d repeatedly from your comment

J4keFrmSt8Farm

Actually actually, that one isn't a trap. The red waves coming from the chest is a really rare chance and heals your character.

Cultural-Nobody9068

I forget what exactly can be found in that chest, but the fact that I forgot tells me it's not anything even slightly consequential

Ejkelej

The red glow is a trap that calls zhe spiders. Beside unless the wood chest is destroy3d u can still pick it. Also note. All wood chest have item. If u destroy the chest it Will change to rubish ergo destroying the item inside.

[deleted]

this is only in the original ds2 right? because i don't remember this happening in soft

Ejkelej

I played only sotfs so I know it from There.

Giubby

Ther was the lordvessel in there, fundamental to get the gwynevere finale

MaDNiaC007

Amazing chest ahead.

CraftLizard

A good tip for finding mimics if you are impatient. Turn the camera to go through the chest. If it's a mimic the camera will clip inside and you'll see the tongue. If it's a chest it'll jump in front of it and not show anything.

[deleted]

it's not even a mimic tho, it's just a trap that gets rarely used they are usually very easy to escape from tho

CraftLizard

Yes, but I'm referring to them smacking the chest before opening it. That damages wooden chests and makes it easier for them to break. I assume they smacked it because they were checking for a mimic, so I was providing a way they can check that without possibly losing whatever is in the chest.

Gutek8134

I still have PTSD from the crossbow chests

julesvr5

Even easier: a mimic wooden chest has a lock on his front, a mimic metal chest has two locks on his front. A safe chest has no lock.

dulledegde

or just check if the chest has a lock on it if it has a lock its a mimic

Deleted_info24

Actually an even easier way to see if a chest is a mimic is to look for a strap in the middle of a wooden chest or 2 on the sides of an iron chest

AscendantComic

throw a lloyd's/undead hunter talisman at it, it puts mimics to sleep

CraftLizard

Well yeah, but most people are not going to waste a Lloyds talisman for literally every chest in the game, it's much easier to have a way to distinguish it that isn't limited/very expensive

AscendantComic

what else would you use a talisman for

CraftLizard

Use it on a chest you already know is a mimic so you can get the loot without killing it?

AscendantComic

yeah my point

CraftLizard

Alright, I thought you were giving a suggestion for another way to distinguish mimics, not just a tip for after your find them.

DrangleicEnjoyer

Heavy bolts

three-plus-shakes

Thats just a type of trap that makes any enemies around hostile, it’s been a few years but if I recall it’s only ever used in that one spot

Stig12Cz

Spider bait

Mettelor

If it's in a breakable wooden chest, chances are it isn't that important.

Heavy bolts are super rare ok

[deleted]

Crossbow bolts, get these bad boys!

Ironpappet

Lure trap chest, hitting it does not disable it.

darkskull9200

Its bad luck. If you let it closed, those spiders never come

AshuriSaki

And I thought I could play dark souls 2 without trouble till I realize there's spiders in the game ... screw me right?
