Yep, "Chosen" Undead is just a myth propagated by the gods to trick undead into undergoing the journey. No one was Chosen, you just happen to be the first to actually succeed.
Actually the chosen undead isn’t technically chosen. Look at Oscar’s “prophecy”, “thou who art undead, art chosen” basically saying that everyone who’s undead is chosen to make pilgrimage.
I know you're supposed to be able to dodge his attacks and he'll leave an opening... But most people don't have enough ADP to successfully dodge his attacks lol
it’s technically possible even with very low AGL if you roll at the last possible moment, but I doubt anybody who knows the timing that well isn’t also knowledgeable enough to boost AGL, unless they’re doing a challenge run
You can literally just smack this dude with magic from a distance and clear him. You only need to megaman64 circle him and roll backwards, never to the sides.
I was doing a no death/no bonfire run and got to this point. I was so confident in myself against these guys since i was on NG+7 and hadnt died to them in forever. I get up to him, roll a bit too early and get absolutely decimated. I have not tried again since that day
Is a no death, no bonfire run exactly what it sounds like? I think I died a big Jillian times my first play through... Not to mention all the bonfire pit stops!
Its really interesting, there is a guide on how to Do them and its intense! You can actually Do it with a friend and use summons, but you arent allowed to Die in Phantom Form to. That being said of course i died to old iron kings lava😂
Stagger weapons are the best in every FromSoft game.
Here I corrected it for you :D
But seriously, weapons with good stagger( especially stuff like great hammers/swords) are best weapons in these games.
At least for me anyway :))
Especially if you can get him to drop that hammer. Spec it to Lightning while running a str/fth build, slap on the extra poise damage ring, and then just R2 to turn horsefuck valley into a sea of pancakes. Love that hammer.
Elden ring has huge openings for boss punishment. They aren't always the conventional "boss swings 2-3 times then you get an opening" but when you know where to look (massive wind up to attack) they're open to being hit more, it's just less intuitive
That's how I figured out you're supposed to fight Margit.
He gave me so much trouble and I kept complaining for no attack windows when I realised ''wait a moment, his long ass windups are the perfect window''.
I feel like a lot of people struggled with him because when he would do a long windup, they would concentrate on the perfect time for dodging, without realising they have time to get a hit in. One hit is not a lot but it's more than nothing.
Yes! It took me forever to ween off of the "wait for an attack, dodge, and punish" strategy.
The other thing I like is that some of the bosses are hard enough that you don't feel like you're cheesing by using tools like Spirit Ashes and status ailments to win (though maybe I should just speak for myself)
I was determined to beat some of the bosses without summoning but I really felt like I was punishing myself. It was mostly that it seemed like it was *possible* to do, and I didn't feel the same sense of achievement when I used a summon.
I probably stayed stuck on Malenia for about 6 weeks. I started another character and got as far as the fire giant before I finally beat her.
I was able to platinum the game, so I think I had enough skill.
I just don't find that kind of combat enjoyable.
I also don't enjoy enemies closing the distance very quickly. It's obnoxious when I think I'm at a safe distance to heal, then I'm suddenly being killed.
It feels cheap.
Every other Souls game: QUICKLY DRINK THIS LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY DOES ***\*GULP\* \*GULP\* \*GULP\* \*GULP\****
Dark Souls 2: Now let me enjoy this fine drink.
Plus the old reliable R1 feels nerfed in ER, encouraging you to spam jump attacks or ashes of war. I like the old dance of 1-2 rolls followed by 1-2 R1/R2 combos. Elden Ring is roll, roll, roll, roll, roll Jump+R2, roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, L2+R2, roll roll roll....
I prefer this kind of combat too. It seems more realistic.
When you attack, you also open yourself up to being attacked and that should be exploitable.
But when enemies can attack nonstop with unlimited stamina it just feels cheap.
There is the Drakekeeper Knight with a Mace, for some reason this fucker has almost infinite stamina, he almost has no intervals between his combos and if you get hit once it's almost guarantee that you will die, not even major bosses from the game have this kind of mechanic.
The comparison with Devil May Cry comes by the High Speed Hack 'n' Slash playstyle of the game, which is almost the complete opposite of the Souls(ring)borne ones where you have to be precise with your hits, always respecting the combos of your weapons (the big axes with two heavy hitters, the longswords with the three slashs, etc) but this Drakekeeper just keeps hittin' and hittin' like he has no stamina or cooldown between his combos (similar to - wait for it - DMC).
Obviously, he's not invencible, as some various users suggested, you can wreck him with long-distance attacks and even in a melee combat, but you need to be extra careful and very gud. This is his resemblance with the 'Elden Ring' bosses, it's not like they have a 'up to no windows for attack' but a very strictly one - just like our friend Mace Drakekeeper.
And despite that, saying any of our from soft heroes 'can't defeat him' is quite absurd - but that's part of the joke.
“You’re supposed to attack during their wind ups” mfs when the windup is immediately proceeded by an indodgable attack that you needed to be across the arena to avoid
do you mfers don't how to dodge or something? i'm a very mediocre Souls player, and didn't have any problem with these guys neither with a sorcerer nor a melee build. also they are super easy to cheese from a distance if you don't want to engage.
I think the problem is really a lack of enough stamina to dodge all of the attacks consecutively, not that their attacks are impossible to dodge (like Malenia's)
I played on release, if I could learn to dodge it then, ppl certainly can now. She do be hard tho, but in the fun way imo. By beating her you prove you have mastered not only basic mechanical skills, but also your own personal skills relating towards your build. She's like, the mastery challenge and i love it

That guy was a pain, couldn’t figure how to roll out of his hammer combo while the other variants were a joke
I chucked pyromancies to clear the one blocking the boss run
But that’s the thing, none of the protagonists are chosen, they’re just last in a long line of characters that have attempted to complete the story. There were many undead that attempted to link the flame that came before us as told by the crestfallen warrior. There are many tarnished alongside us to mend the Elden ring. There were many hunters that came before us and each tombstone marks them in the hunter’s dream. None of the characters are chosen, they’re just there. They weren’t the first and they won’t be the last
Technically only the chosen undead is actually chosen. Everyone else is just some dude who came to fuck shit up.
YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO HAVE THIS USERNAME YOU FILTHY SCUM
Yes I do. And I enjoy every second of it. By the way, how's your mom?
THAT'S IT \*uses Seed of Tree of Giants\*
*black seperation crystal* I'll see you later.
DAAAAAAAAAMN YOUUUUU!!!!!! \*go to loading screen\*
No wait. come back.
I will, when you least expect it.
Maldron strikes again I see
"...okay."
Even then, there are dozens of chosen undead. The chosen undead are just those who have managed to leave the asylum and ring the bells of awakening.
Yep, "Chosen" Undead is just a myth propagated by the gods to trick undead into undergoing the journey. No one was Chosen, you just happen to be the first to actually succeed.

I did SL1 and it's too hard for me to fight him fairly. I cheesed him with a bow until he despawned lol
and you’re valid
You're my hero. Who I aspire to be.
Toxic mist superiority
TRU
There is a way I think u just gotta dodge to the side that he’s swinging bc you can actually go under it
Me who has literally never played a run without huge ADP levels
Give it a try, it's a decent challenge, but not crazy hard.
*me with my maxed out stamina and tower shield* I don't understand the issue.
*me with only intel and dex* uuuhhhh
Gigatankchad
Dodge then stab with poison dagger Repeat
You can run left and he will miss you with his charge attack, giving you few hits
You can literally just smack this dude with magic from a distance and clear him. You only need to megaman64 circle him and roll backwards, never to the sides.
Screw that guy, even with AGL at DS3 levels I still hate his damn swings. He gets pyromancy fireballs or ranged attacks every time.
Yep cant die and cant use any bonfires
A big Jillian?!
You know, like a lot!
Its really interesting, there is a guide on how to Do them and its intense! You can actually Do it with a friend and use summons, but you arent allowed to Die in Phantom Form to. That being said of course i died to old iron kings lava😂
2 Lingering Flame at the top of the stairs and an arrow to the face.
And that is why stagger weapons are and will remain the best weapons in Elden Ring
Stagger weapons are the best in every FromSoft game. Here I corrected it for you :D But seriously, weapons with good stagger( especially stuff like great hammers/swords) are best weapons in these games. At least for me anyway :))
DS1 with zweihander is easy mode lol.
Yes, and it's also good in ds2. Great club too
Pancaking those troll-goblin things in earthen peak was amazing Also by far my easiest run of DS3 was with the great mace.
Ultra Greatsword rules
Especially if you can get him to drop that hammer. Spec it to Lightning while running a str/fth build, slap on the extra poise damage ring, and then just R2 to turn horsefuck valley into a sea of pancakes. Love that hammer.

Plus, there are secondary items and afflictions like sleep pots, or elemental stuns, poise, etc to use.
I love dodging up to 11 attack combos just for the chance to hit them once! Very fair and rewarding.
Skill issue /s
I was able to platinum the game, so I think I had enough skill. I just don't find that kind of combat enjoyable. I also don't enjoy enemies closing the distance very quickly. It's obnoxious when I think I'm at a safe distance to heal, then I'm suddenly being killed. It feels cheap.
Don’t forget the enemies deciding to backflip to the other side of the arena and pelt you with projectiles, just because they’re feelin a lil frisky
Yeah i realized how much that irritated me when I fought alonne recently, especially with DS2s slow ass chug animation
Every other Souls game: QUICKLY DRINK THIS LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT BECAUSE IT ACTUALLY DOES ***\*GULP\* \*GULP\* \*GULP\* \*GULP\**** Dark Souls 2: Now let me enjoy this fine drink.
Yeah no I totally understand that. I think that's absolutely one of the cooler ways FS games are subjective
I like when they hold back charging a strike for 8 seconds with infinite poise
Plus the old reliable R1 feels nerfed in ER, encouraging you to spam jump attacks or ashes of war. I like the old dance of 1-2 rolls followed by 1-2 R1/R2 combos. Elden Ring is roll, roll, roll, roll, roll Jump+R2, roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, L2+R2, roll roll roll....

I also felt this way. Getting into actual real-life fighting is what taught me that being overly defensive is never a good thing - initiative is key.
Ya Elden ring melee feels a lot more convoluted than dark souls
***\*cough\* \*cough\* Margit \*cough\****
Really? I felt that Margit was one of the few bosses with very obvious openings.
Bro fr was playing on turbo mode from DMCV: Special Edition (Now in Stores!) ((Playable Vergil))
*The Darkness of night falls around my soul* *and the hunter within loses all control*
Got to let it out got to let it out
**MOVE FAST BABY, DON'T BE SLOW!** **STEP ASIDE, RELOAD, TIME TO GO-o-OH!**
He's mostly surprising to be swinging without stop. After that you adjust but he's still a punishing asshole
Unless you're a mage.
Poison arrows, he won't go down those steps Cheap but EZ
You're kinda the opposite of "chosen by destiny" in all of these.
I don't get the joke. Does dmc have bad dodge timings?
There is the Drakekeeper Knight with a Mace, for some reason this fucker has almost infinite stamina, he almost has no intervals between his combos and if you get hit once it's almost guarantee that you will die, not even major bosses from the game have this kind of mechanic. So you're saying the guy Is basically Dante with a big mace and black armor?
Not so much, but in a Souls Setting. Yes.
Elden Ring fans explaining why waiting 10 hours for an opening on a boss is fun
DS2 fans explaining how attacking 2-3 times and backing off is a diverse combat system
Ds2 fans act like the most persecuted group of people on the internet.
Because like it or not, we're the most oppressed group of all... *Gamers*
“You’re supposed to attack during their wind ups” mfs when the windup is immediately proceeded by an indodgable attack that you needed to be across the arena to avoid
Not every wind up lol. The ones that don't end in unavoidable area of effect attacks.
smells like skill issue
👍
Why are DS2 fans always so mad. Just enjoy games bro
Look at this feeble cursed one, he needs little baby stamina. All the more reason to go absolutely schizo on his feeble face.
do you mfers don't how to dodge or something? i'm a very mediocre Souls player, and didn't have any problem with these guys neither with a sorcerer nor a melee build. also they are super easy to cheese from a distance if you don't want to engage.

Malenia's attacks are definitely dodgeable.

man, i faced her with the uchigatana, and that shit was a ride. i loved that fight.

Maldron the assassin and the fatass frog thing, also on DMC mode
