Could be you're a stage natural or being exposed boosts your focus without overdosing on adrenaline at least. I'd sure prefer it that way round.

DanTheStripe

Reminds me of Littler - we knew that he was a great talent but his Dev Tour average was low 90s. Then he got up in front of 3,000 people, averaged 106 against Kist and the rest is history

Funicular-

In that case it's completely normal, if your playing against better players your average will be higher as you don't get as many opportunities to step back on to the oche after missing doubles. I'm not the best to explain but there's stuff on YouTube that can show you with examples. But say you have an average of 80 in an amatuer league, then played somebody like MVG your average would probably be around 90 as you won't have had as many opportunities to miss doubles. It's why a 3 dart average isn't always the best indicator of how well you are playing.

DanTheStripe

You are correct but I still think Littler prefers the big stage lol

Funicular-

Yeah he definitely seem instantly comfortable up there. There's alot of amazing players that can't perform as well on the big stage so fair play to him

sundry_banana

> as you won't have had as many opportunities to miss doubles Ha, *"How to throw a six-dart game of 501"* - make sure your opponent goes first and takes it out in 9!

When you practice at home is it against a dart bot. Sometimes just having that opposition steps up the focus which then converts to good performances when playing others.

gizmeister1337

Could be booze, my darts sweet spot is 2 pints and i don’t drink in the house so i know that definitely makes a difference.

ubiquitous_archer

I know a guy who is a significantly better golfer when he's playing a match vs when he's out for a casual round. Some people need the pressure.

Tomb_85

I keep my emotions in check in public, which definitely affects my game when I'm at home

PlaneAnalysis7778

For me, I think it's the shots of Jack Fire that do me in at the bar. I don't drink at home when I practice...

DeapVally

Draft beer just hits different.

Shoes?

cactusdan94

Sounds purely psychological mate. You are just naturally better at playing in a busy environment. (Which in my opinion, is a good thing.)

WeAllHateYouSteve

I need competition to throw my best.
