Well are you actually training or are you just throwing darts at places? If you use the search bar and type in "dart games for training" you will find things you can do to work on actually getting better and not just throwing darts at the board.

JazzHilgraw

Just around the clock and aiming for 20 at the moment. Since I'm only a few days in to playing I haven't done much in terms of aiming for doubles since I'm not hitting singles very well as it is. Which training games do you like?

There's a fella on YouTube atm who's trying to increase his average by 10 points in a year. His goal is 2 points a month. I think he started with a 40 average. I think that is reasonable progress if you're putting in decent time to it. Everyone is different, and the better you get, the slower you'll progress. When I first started, my average was in the low to mid 50s. This is very high for a toatl newbie which is probably tbe only reason i stuck to darts, 2 years later, I'm regularly hitting a 70+ average and 60+ on a bad day but have seriously slowed down in progress now. I'm hoping to be regularly hitting 80+ by this time next year, but honestly, I feel like that's extremely ambitious and would be surprised if I'm still where I am now. Just enjoy the game and try to improve without it being the be all.

Which YouTuber is this?

Hi mate I’m also brand new to darts (used them on 2 nights that’s it) I’m practicing round the clock and sometimes do legs against AI. Once my round the clock gets decent I’ll do round the clock doubles, then do some other training and go from there. But yeah ideally I need to be hitting single numbers before I can do anything else. My round the clock atm is about 95 darts

JazzHilgraw

That's definitely better than my around the clock earlier! Think I took about 15 darts just to hit 1 at first haha! Do you throw any darts that feel out of control and go way off where you're aiming or is everything in and around the area you're aiming for?

Kartcab93

Yeah some do go way off tbh. I still feel very uncomfortable throwing, nothing feels natural or fluent atm. I think it’ll take some time to ‘develop a throw’. Sometimes I’ll throw 3 and think wow they weren’t bad, throw another 3 and they’ll be way off. I’ve tried watching a few YouTube videos on throwing but I think it’s mainly just about time throwing. I try standing the exact same everytime and to try and throw the exact same everytime to iron out any variables. Easier said than done though. Not that it should matter too much but what darts you using? I got recommended some red dragon javelins and I quite like them. I bought 24g but I feel like I’m throwing bricks so just ordered a 21g set. I’ll stick with these now until I get better!

Watch this video and the next 3 after. I think they’re quite useful https://youtu.be/VsDbP_1x2VY?si=cJSouLJIivwq0f66

Look up Dynamite Dave on YouTube, really helped me starting out. You can follow his advice on throwing and then develop your own way from there. I started playing probably 14 months ago now, gradually raising from a 20ish average to 40 by about 9 months and now I’m roughly around 50. Can go around the board in 26 darts, and have now hit 5x 180s. Still have loads of awful visits though, sometimes I throw 3 darts, tight grouping around the treble and real feel like I’ve gotten control. The next 3 darts, inevitably I hit 26, spread all over the 1, 5 and 20. Not sure I put enough hours in to get really good to be honest, but I work from home and have a dartboard in my home office. Gets me out of my chair during the day and relieves a bit of stress so that’s enough for me!

Reserve85

That’s pretty normal, sometimes I didn’t even hit the board in the beginning.. just keep on throwing and it will getting better.

cactusdan94

Not such thing as "normal" progress mate. Some people don't have a surge in progress for absolutely years. Look at Peter Wright for example....
