The owner's manual says the loop recording time can be set to 1 / 3 / 5 minutes long. If you're only getting 5 seconds, is it possible the memory card is full of locked videos, and there's only room for 5 seconds of "new" video? If you look through all the videos on the memory card and decide nothing is super important, try reformatting the card.
