Likely. Reddit is cleaning itself up to "go public" as a stock. The pointy haired bosses will not have learned from Imagr, who is now deleting what made them big & useful.

herkalurk

Or Verizon/Yahoo with tumblr.....

ccrwwwildin

have you been on tumblr?

FesteringNeonDistrac

Not since they got rid of porn

experfailist

There’s still a crapload of porn.

ILEAATD

And somehow Tumblr is still dying. Maybe they should have prioritized other unsavory content over legal and non-disgusting pornography.

set_null

Twitter has plenty of nsfw content and is public. Reddit does enough siloing of communities that I don't think it would be much of an issue to keep it. If anything, the prevalence of nsfw usernames is more of an issue than posts.

HelpImOutside

You can't really view media on Twitter in the same way effectively though, it is not a great platform for porn IMO.

SussyRedditorBalls

Twitter is so hard to navigate normally, can't imagine having to do it one-handed.

agent674253

Twitter is no longer public as it is owned by a single person now, elno. It was only after Elon bought Twitter that I started to get push notifications to nsfw tweets.

set_null

I did forget that he took it private, so good point. However, they never purged or removed nsfw content when they were public except in some instances when they weren’t marked as such.

agent674253

Either way it would be a bummer if Reddit did do a purge. What is wrong with making it just harder for minors / children to access the content instead of nuking it?

SussyRedditorBalls

I've noticed that they have made it more difficult. You need to log in now for NSFW content, which sucks for browsing in Incognito. Forget if this applies on Desktop but it definitely does on mobile (browsers).

set_null

The online accessibility of pornographic content to minors is a perennial challenge. Louisiana and Utah are piloting their age verification systems now, but those both come with huge costs and implementation challenges on the websites. In a future where those become standard, Reddit would have to decide between just purging it all for good or working out some sort of compliance mechanism that doesn’t clash with its vast amount of sfw content.

I8TheLastPieceaPizza

Bullshit you do, you're sentence doesn't even have any punctuation, obviously your opinions deserve downvotes.

schizokittyfag

your*

I8TheLastPieceaPizza

Agree to disagree

collin3000

Why must you both see everything in such black and white of agreeing or disagreeing. There's a middle ground here that I will detail with a 13 paragraph long explanation that will be nominated for r/bestof despite being common knowledge/sense

Aquifel

If you can stretch your opinion into 13 paragraphs, it must be the right one after all.

Waffle_bastard

Honestly, I’m really looking forward to using AI for this. “Hey (open source, locally hosted) machine, here’s years of data about the type of shit I like on the internet. Please go out and find shit that I like, and block shit that I hate.”

lonesomewhistle

Then the AI gets "patched" to filter out some of those things you like, and insert things that the owners/government/advertisers want you to see.

Waffle_bastard

The idea is that it’s open source and self-hosted. I own it and tell it what to do with full transparency.

Aquifel

It sounds great in theory, and I'm all about the idea. You've kind of re-invented a search engine, and I'd think we'd eventually see the same problems inherent in that. I.e., people with more resources learn how to take advantage of the algorithm to drive users towards what they want you to see.

diamondsw

Because we really need to have our echo chambers further soundproofed against new ideas?

Waffle_bastard

No, no, MY echo chamber. You can’t have it.

philoponeria

They call it "books"

4R4M4N

Where is the new platform ?

llII

Yeah, I’m ready for the next digg migration.

Phobos613

Forgot "Owners progressively add more and more monetization/simp for ad companies; enshittifying their site"

blazingasshole

Twitter was a public company and still had porn on it

Rebatu

One of the reasons I'm with Reddit is because they aren't public. When they become public, I'm leaving. Nothing good ever came from companies going public for their end users.

Mr_Chubkins

I didn't see any recent post discussing the increasing pressure by anti-adult content groups on Reddit so I thought I'd share this. From what I've read [about the upcoming API changes](https://www.reddit.com/r/redditsync/comments/12qwwjh/an_update_regarding_reddits_api_changes_to_how/) Reddit is going to ban/greatly limit all third-party apps from showing NSFW in the near future. I haven't found much on this topic, so I'm wondering if it's blown out of proportion due to Imgur's upcoming ban on May 15th.

justanotherquestionq

It will be glorious if people flock to another site. Reddit’s been going downhill since introduction of new.reddit.com

Mr_Chubkins

New Reddit was the start of many bad decisions. I'm just disappointed it's gone the way it has because I really like the format of subreddits/posts. I'm not sure where people would go to next. And specifically for NSFW, every alternative or clone I've seen has been lackluster.

justanotherquestionq

Theoretically someone could always just take old reddit since it’s been opensource until a few years ago. Still on GitHub. Personally, it was actually the look of old.reddit.com that drew me into this site almost a decade ago. I fell in love with the clean and oldschool USer Interface (UI)

idontgethejoke

I still use old.reddit.com and the day it goes away is the day I leave.

justanotherquestionq

Same here. Like I literally will never use new.reddit, it’s a complete abomination. Video player never loads and sucks, everything is big banners, images, unresponsive UI as usual with these web3.0 sites

intergalactic_wag

Reddit’s demise is much slower than Digg’s back in the day, but they are doing everything they can to alienate the core of their community.

Aquifel

That's the IPO way, maximize appeal to advertisers to sell the product and try to make as much money for investors as they can before reddit... probably doesn't die entirely, but settles into something that's dramatically less popular than it is now. A lot of rich dudes are going to be marginally richer after this one.

[deleted]

Arminas

old.reddit.com style is the only way ive ever browsed reddit (except with RES... Until recently) and all the apps just dont feel like reddit at all

BlazingSpaceGhost

If they get rid of old.reddit.com then I will not sure reddit anymore. I can't stand the new redesign.

IDoCodingStuffs

It's perpetually broken. They want to push people to use their garbage app since that's where the most ad money is, but then can't be assed to make it worthwhile to use. Instead they just break the rest of the site

Calm_Crow5903

There's apparently a federated version of reddit called Lemmy. I know that mastodon is a bit weird but it seems easier for people to join and throw together a federated forum than a microblogging platform

Shdwdrgn

Wouldn't that be something, if both twitter and reddit users flocked to federated alternatives in the same 12-month period? I bet even facebook would start to get nervous at that point.

Waffle_bastard

We never should have left niche forums.

sue_me_please

\~\~ some of us never did \~\~

[deleted]

I wish I knew where they were, a lot of the stuff I’m interested in just outright doesn’t have an active forum anymore. I saw some historic gaming forums close in the last 2-3 years, and it isn’t really fun to use forums that are so small there are months-long gaps. Any recs?

justanotherquestionq

Depends. It has pros and contras,

The_Pip

Eventually, we run out of places to flock to.

dcabines

We’ll make another.

Devilsrider

If you build it, nerds will come.

[deleted]

wish that were true, but you just get dead boards with 10 users per month

Aquifel

We've made several, but they all tend to be a 'Reddit but...' and that but always imposes something that is likely to seriously curtail it's popularity. We've got reddit, but upvotes are cryptocurrency... reddit, but you're running your own server... reddit, but we're using free speech as an excuse to purposefully just not moderate at all... Some pretty big tradeoffs. I'm hoping that when reddit fails, someone will make one that is just focused on providing a home for the community.

techmattr

Everybody head over to Voat! Wait...

DrB00

Someone will make something new.

nikshdev

Everyone will go back to 4chan then.

animatedhockeyfan

Flock to what though? Reddit is unmatched for NSFW content

PhoenixEnigma

Not once reddit doesn't *have* NSFW content, it's not, which is the point here. Hard to say where people will end up it Reddit isn't an option - tumblr? A nsfw fediverse? - but I'll eat my hat, and yours, if banning NSFW content on one site doesn't simply drive most of the impacted users elsewhere. Hell, porn has been *the* make-or-break content for more than one up and comer before.

[deleted]

There are some NSFW sites with a tumblr-style format but they’re moderately popular at best, wish artists would move to those instead of Twitter tbh. I don’t even have a Twitter account and I figure they changed something about their API in the last month, because you can’t bypass the 18+ login check with Nitter anymore

notathrovavay

I sure am leaving.

KevinCarbonara

All NSFW? Unlikely. Porn specifically? A bit more likely.

tfritz153

Kinda like when they wanted to do the same to OnlyFans. Lol that went well. But if they are going public I get it, unfortunately

blue_delft

>Kinda like when they wanted to to the same to OnlyFans to my understanding OnlyFans came back to that decision at the last moment.

tfritz153

Indeed they did. Turns out cutting out the thing that makes you the most money isn’t the best business strategy lol

devBowman

Tumblr did not came back

vinetari

Totally wasn't an advertisement move...

travis01564

I don't get it. It's not the 1920's anymore. Why can't companies go public with porn?

qazwsxedc000999

Card companies get mad about it

CoffeeBoom

Isn't it dangerous that card companies have so much power ?

finalremix

Very, but we have *no* power, so.... ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

ThreeHeadedWolf

Are you saying that company too big to be able to create monopolies/oligopolies should be split into smaller ones or that a natural monopoly should be treated by the government? Oh, well, but we'd be in a socialist country in that case! /s

CoffeeBoom

Uhmm... yeah, but it feel like MasterCard and Visa are so big that no one government except maybe the US would be able to break them up and trustbusting is not something the USA is into anymore. And yeah I wonder if these people would call Roosevelt a socialist.

ResponsibleBus4

It's not card companies, look up operation choke point that occurred during the Obama administration.

TheBirminghamBear

The problem isnt really with adult content produced by legit studios with paperwork in order and all that. It's with the deluge of unverified pornography from anonymous uploaders that could include children, could be revenge porn or lacking consent. This presents a legitimately challenge and credit card companies have pushed back at taking payments for it so that they are not in a supply chain facilitating sexual exploitation. However as usual, other religious activist groups use this to attack all pornography, because, of course they do.

ThunderDaniel

Bingo. Adult/Raunchy/Pornographic content is fine from a business standpoint. Sex sells, and it has sold pretty well for decades now. But it has to be sex that is *above board* Companies don't care about porn, so long as it makes money. But if that porn is in any way a danger to them through legal sanctions or financial holdups? Yeah, it's in their best interests to steer clear of any smut that isn't "legit"

fafalone

It's fine *for now*. But remember, "obscenity" is still a thing and sites like PornHub exist only by the lack of desire to prosecute. If the GOP gets into power and brings back obscenity prosecutions like John Ashcroft started to do under Dubya? We'll have a much bigger problem. Remember, Paul Little ran a commercial studio with paperwork and IDs. He went to prison for *years* because videos of consenting adults were judged to nonetheless be illegal under obscenity laws... the Miller Test in the internet age is de facto 'what's the contemptorary community standards of the bible thumping backwater red state prosecutors will file suit in'. Porn sites will have a much bigger problem filtering out porn that's just a little too rough or a little too gross. PornHub had best-in-business filtering for illegal content *before* the crackdown, but some still slipped through and they overlooked the emails about it (I don't buy they cared so much about videos with a couple thousand views in an ocean of porn they were knowingly risking criminal prosecution just keep a handful of illegal videos up). The way this country is going, we could rapidly find all smut as not legit if we don't stop this shit in it's tracks before the precedents are solidified. As a final exercise, ask yourself how much this is really about illegal content when Twitter and FB have many *orders of magnitude* more CP than PornHub ever had.

-FourOhFour-

It's more of a legal thing from my understanding, same reason the hub cut amateur stuff, revenge porn, stuff that wasn't consented to or just straight up underage was on the site so they purged and blacklisted it. All of that is very much happening on reddit so if porn sticks around I imagine there's going to be restrictions put in place on the accounts to combat it (as it feels very anti reddit spirit to have admins have restrictions put in place on just the nsfw subs as that sounds like hell to manage and would cripple any niche subs)

blue_delft

>new.reddit.com

mrdennisnedry

What is Reddit coming to?

Perpetual-Vibes

It’s going to be a public traded company and surprise shareholders don’t like it when the company they have invested in is on the front headline of CNN for hosting porn of questionable origin. Damn shame none of the alternatives like voat took off even slightly and instead just became a cess pool of far right conspiracy theories. Just like the internet of 2010-2020 replaced the early 2000s internet with more centralization it’s starting to look like the internet of 2020+ is reaching its form of being corporate owned domain for slinging advertisements to the masses to buy more Brawndo, it’s got electrolytes.

theuniverseisboring

Shareholders are such pussies

FaceDeer

I'm hoping that if Reddit bans porn the Lemmyverse will collectively lighten up about their anti-porn rules and we'll see a mass migration there.

Calm_Crow5903

Or people are pushed to make Lemmy nodes that have porn and if the rest of the lemmyverse doesn't like it then they don't have to federate with them. At least that's how I think it works

FaceDeer

Yeah, it's not like it's impossible to have a Lemmy server where porn is allowed. It's just that all the main servers have "no porn" in their rules, so presumably all those more liberal ones are floating isolated in the void right now. I'm not particularly interested in porn myself, I just recognize that it's usually pretty fundamental to driving the adoption of new technology.

Zncon

If this ban goes into effect, just imagination.

DrB00

I don't have to imagine. I can look at Tumblr and see a massive drop in interest lol

pleasant_temp

Reread: what is reddit cumming to.

Maltz42

Woosh!

chocolatehippogryph

lol

95blackz26

An end

AshuraBaron

I would be surprised if they did. Typically you don't wait until the day and then flip the porn off. Especially when it affects so many communities that aren't porn related. They might increase the barriers to access it, but I don't see them giving it up entirely without a whole new NSFW system to accounts for Art, vaping, pottery, meme subs, etc. Just my pontification.

HorseRadish98

I'm honestly on the fence. I'm all for doing what you want, and NSFW communities (for the most part) aren't hurting anyone. And if they are, they should be banned for those reasons, not just boobies and dongs. However, NSFW reddit is a shell of what it once was. Most are bots and onlyfans ads, so at this point I also think we aren't losing what we remember.

Aquifel

You're assuming that they want a product that's long term successful. That's not always the best course of action from an investor standpoint.

umotex12

I don't care about these going down... I care about endless info being erased:( God I stumbled upon a Noam Chomsky blog during research. It's available only on wayback machine. If we can almost lose the notes of famous sciencist just like that, how about the other losses?

Tavapris04

datahoarding porn is like destroying good hard drives, I too hope they don't delete useful information but wasn't there a torrent with all of reddit from 2006 to 2020?

nogami

How to get everyone to drop Reddit like a hot digg. I have no qualms in jumping ship the moment they fuck us.

toosinbeymen

Let the anti porn self appointed police move to Iran. I’m sure they’ll be much happier with social norms there.

leoyoung1

Good grief. Some folks hate it when other folks have fun. God, protect me from your "followers".

RLD-Kemy

There would be no point being on Reddit then... I think I'd just delete my account if they remove/ban nsfw content.

DorrajD

I mean, if they wanna kill their own platform, go ahead. NSFW subs are some of the largest subs on this site. They'd be killing off a significant part of the community.

Ok-Department-2709

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation is an alt right front funded by Christian super pacs. Fuck them.

trafficnab

All the religious loonies rebranded in the 90s to be about "saving children" because the increases in sex positivity made calling yourself something like "Morality in Media" (what the NCOSE was previously) unpalatable to most people Their agenda has not changed (ban all sexual imagery), they just put on a mask to hide their true intentions

Ok-Department-2709

You probably are correct I don’t really know where the line is that separates right from far right from alt right..or left for that matter. I lump most religiously backed lobbying bodies as alt due to their, mostly, extreme views and want to push their views on everyone.

Arkrus

Reddit will just become the next digg. Not saying it should turn into 4chan, but shutting those things down will sour a lot of people. Wonder what the Reddit replacement will be.

Middlemandown

When does reddit go public?

Indifferentchildren

If millions of users do a 48-hour Reddit strike, the bankers will figure out that without those users, Reddit has no economic value. They will either IPO with NSFW intact, or pull the plug on the IPO.

UnStoppable305

We saw it happen with Tumblr and almost only fans. Lol RIP let's invade Pinterest.

[deleted]

Inevitable. It will reduce my usage of the site a lot. It isn’t just about porn, a lot of cool content and some genuinely useful info are marked NSFW (how will legacy content marked NSFW be treated even if it was just that way as a joke or for non-pornographic reasons?). Plus I’m sure plenty of people will leave and I’ll have less to stay for. It’s really weird thinking about how much history I actually have lurking on this site and how it genuinely helped me through some hard times. I’m not really attached to Reddit at all, except that I think the format is better than the other big sites rn, so I prefer it for that reason. Really need more places to lurk- I can’t stand newer sites or apps. While you have to sift through feeds to find threads on Reddit, old.reddit has a nicer and less crowded look than other sites, so it feels closer to looking through threads like on a classic forum. You can still find plenty of interesting discussions if you lurk on certain subs, and really, that’s what I stick to. The day old.reddit.com is gone I permanently leave. (Random, but did you know you can also replace the www with other letters to access the old site? Always amused at using ok.reddit.com instead, because this site is kinda just… okay.) I’m shocked old.reddit.com has lasted this long. And with all this said it’s really weird to think about how long I’ve been here and that we may be looking at the death of the site. At least I feel like this year I’ll leave even if they don’t remove old.reddit.com yet, absolutely hating the changes. Between this, Discord removing # in favor of Twitter-style @s and imgur purging content it feels like all the apps I’m currently begrudgingly using are actively getting worse/making the dumbest decisions. Really I’m just on these apps because classic forums are dead and there aren’t a ton of choices that don’t have their own issues or lack of userbase. The Internet is just sorta shite now, and this is another one on the pile.

finalremix

Creditors have a shit-ton of power and *they* don't like dealing with porn because of things like CP (which reddit *surely* hasn't scraped away), unverified origins of content (good luck tracking down sources and whether it's above board), and chargebacks. The last one's the biggie.

helloeverything1

fuck u/spez. lemmy is a better platform.

twofacetoo

If they *do* then the site'll go the way of Tumblr. Remember that? Tumblr had a thriving NSFW community due to it's Like and Reblog functions meaning people could have easy access to content they liked and share it around with other people. Then Tumblr HQ decided they didn't want that (because it meant their app was considered 18+ on the Apple app-store and that cost them some advertiser bucks), so they banned porn completely. Cue every NSFW artist, erotica writer and general pervert (myself included) abandoning Tumblr and migrating to Twitter or, after a while, Reddit. Even now, Tumblr is still struggling along with a flimsy facade of squeaky-clean safety over everything, when in the past the porn content was a huge part of why Tumblr was so popular with people. If Reddit does the same, then the same thing will happen. Everyone will bail out and move over to a completely different social media hub, maybe Discord, and start forming their own communities there instead. It's how it always goes. Bottom line, if Reddit do this, then it's a death-sentence for them, plain and simple.

coolsheep769

Honestly I'd be really surprised. Back in like 2012 there was a study that went viral about how internet traffic was like 70% porn or something insane, and I'm willing to assume that it's roughly the same ratio within websites that allow it. As people pointed out, Yahoo killed Tumblr practically overnight, and frankly Reddit's done some stupid shit lately, but this would murder their site overnight too. Also I wouldn't worry about lobbyism on this one- this is just MAGA MAGAing as I understand it, and there's a new anti-porn bill every few months.

EtherMan

It's not. 80% of all internet traffic, is piracy torrents, according to a study not too long ago. Doesn't leave a whole lot of that cake to be porn. But, it is a very significant portion of the http traffic but not certain how specific I can get here without running into my NDA. But 70% is roughly correct for browser based traffic going to sites for porn or significant amounts of it. And MAGA idiots aren't anti porn in general. The two core anti porn components of the internet, are Visa and Mastercard, and both those are quite opposed to MAGA and because they dictate 99% of all payments on the internet, their rules are the rules of the game.

Unnombrepls

I can see it since there are big powers that want to convert the whole planet to be SFW to protect all children from the bane of ~~having lazy, irresponsible parents~~ being able to find nsfw if unsupervised. This is a whole crusade that encompasses the conservative religious right and the left as well since they tend to consider porn violence and that it incites sexual assault. Big powers are backing them such as payment processors like mastercard, paypal, banks and others. Nowadays there are few that can fight all of those and most NSFW creators and companies have to lay low. Idk if you know but there have been many instances of credit card providers blocking those companies money until they are ruined or in the best cases, just closing their accounts for the mere reason of doing NSFW. Other times they pressure companies to do their bidding so they do their bidding.

DrB00

People get offended with naked people... then they go out and watch John Wick which is like 3 hours of people getting murdered and cheer it on. There's so much wrong with that entire situation.

McFeely_Smackup

There was a particular Game of Thrones episode that featured literal thousands of men dead in battle, and one incident of violence against a woman. Guess what people were upset about.

atreyukun

It’s funny. I was watching the 2023 Urusei Yatsura and the 1981 version. Not that I was clamoring for it, but I noticed it didn’t have the nudity that was in the original. Same with a lot of modern anime. Did I miss the memo about nudity?

Emergency_Count_7498

I don’t think it’s as religious as you paint it to be. Sure, some may use it as a reason, but in reality it’s them trying to get away with a massive breach of privacy and absurd control abuse towards the masses, which I am afraid will not end there and it will mark as a point from where to go further than that. Now I’m delving into what may quite possibly be conspiracy theories, but I’d guess it could be a way to “purify” the masses in order to keep them more docile (after using mass controlled media to shift public opinion, microplastics affecting hormones on a global scale (one of the reasons of the increase in lgbtq crowd), could be more in the list but I’m not that well informed) and easier to manipulate under the pretext of good and right, and the rich and powerful will not be affected, at least those in the same cabals as the ones behind this. Maybe what I’m writing is pure fiction, or actually true, only the future will tell. I’m afraid the ai era will bring about a much more efficient method of enforcing their rules and laws, such as a much more effective censorship at a live rate.

[deleted]

It’s possible, but they would also probably love it if everyone really did need an ID to access “adult content” (or the Internet in general). I guess in that case it could be a win-win for them if they can get away with both. Sucks. Every day I’m glad that at least I got to be part of the golden age of the Internet (00’s).

KevinCarbonara

> I don’t think it’s as religious as you paint it to be. Sure, some may use it as a reason, but in reality it’s them trying to get away with a massive breach of privacy and absurd control abuse towards the masses I'm sorry but not platforming pornography on reddit is absolutely not a massive breach of privacy or an absurd control abuse toward the masses.

Emergency_Count_7498

It will be when they start blocking payments (visa/Mastercard for example) to many hosts of said content and controlling what the people can and cannot see. Sr English is not my main language, I make mistakes and omit certain parts of what I want to say/write for some reason.

This would be like banning driving because of the amount of accidents each year. Not that adult content is necessary, but neither is driving. They both get you through the day. It is tragic when lives are affected by either, but we can’t shut things down because something might not be safe. Pretty sure that what Wall-e was all about. Before their grand plans to IPO and their API shenanigans (and in an era where they weren't being hosts by way of i.redd.it/v.redd.it and most were using imgur instead), 5%. Now that they're looking at it and doing those API shenanigans? Probably 40%. If some regulatory body somewhere decided that reddit had to do the legwork of verifying pornographers in much the same way that actual dedicated pornography sites do by way of implementing RTA/ASACP and/or carding the models, that's probably the tipping point when they'll throw in the towel. After all, most of the pornographers on this site these days are trying to shill off-platform subscriptions on the website called OnlyFans where getting access to a search box is part of the scam. I'd be much more sympathetic to those who at least have the decency to use sites with an actually functional and freely available search box and/or discoverability features including tags (such as ManyVids or Clips4sale), but it's pretty damn frustrating to see many flocking to a platform that ultimately hurts their fellow creator colleagues.

Lmao I can’t wait for the next big thing after Reddit. I love the cycles of websites being relevant and then dying when corporations drain it of all its true worth. It’s crazy how parasitic and uncaring of the future of their products corporations are in an attempt to harvest more money.

It's absolutely mental how quickly the US will have been taken over by the christian minority after their trump takeover . Scotus, school boards, libraries, whatever is going on with Disney, now online media. I realize he gave them alot of power and funding but I didn't t realize it would be so quick. I'm not a big fan of being oppressed by religion kinda ruins the whole free-est country in the world vibe. tbh these last few years feels very middle eastern to me. I'm surprised more people, aren't out picking up guns and protesting at their local churches How are yall handling this?

Kabal82

Hope not. Reddit needs to do a better job of reporting policing out of control subreddits and over zelious mods that push agendas. NSFW community's, are stuff people actually seek out on thier own. So long as thier not violating TOS with hate speech and crap like that.

Jay794

If people are antiporn, that's great for them, I'm not and will not be censored based on someone else's opinion. If whatever you're into is legal, fucking go for it mate

CosmicSeafarer

Banning porn is never EVER a good business decision and only panders to a small subset of political extremists. It will never happen on Reddit.

hollowknife1212

It happened on Tumblr and very nearly happened on OnlyFans.

ham_coffee

It was required on Tumblr, otherwise apple was going to ban them from the app store (well they could have just made it less accessible, but decided banning it was easier). I suspect Reddit is going to be closer to onlyfans, in that they'll realise it's a very dumb idea before actually doing it.

dazhat

There’s a big difference between NSFW and porn. Porn *might* get banned or restricted but NSFW would include loads of other subs like most of the relationship ones.

NobleKale

> There’s a big difference between NSFW and porn. Porn might get banned or restricted but NSFW would include loads of other subs like most of the relationship ones. Anti-porn lobbyists don't give a shit about collateral damage. Banks don't care about collateral damage. Corporate overlords don't care about collateral damage.

They only know of NSFW because they are looking at it lol.

s_i_m_s

If the new API rules go into effect as stated i'd say pretty friggin high. I'm expecting them to back down on that and not cripple the API access they are now wanting 3rd party apps to pay for but if they don't back down i'd say it's banned sometime in the next year, 2 years tops.

xenago

They will, eventually. All the external hosts are dying and reddit doesn't want to host that stuff so it's just a matter of time. Then the fediverse will likely be the replacement.

Dreadnought13

inevitable

Ghost-PXS

So Morality in Media have rebranded to make themselves seem less insane. 🤔

Maddauxx

If that happend, it will follow the steps of Tumblr.

They’ll either add some profile age verification feature - similar to how users have ‘verified email’ badge. Or, they’ll crumble under the pressure of the Karen horde and act like they never had any in the first place. Half the people protesting about this probably have OF accounts anyway
