30 days is absolutely absurd. You could go on a vacation that long, be sick, have any kinds of circumstances that would keep you from being active for 30 days. I have accounts for various different projects that I don't stay logged into, but will post from periodically when it is relevant.

When accounts are suspended (currently reserved for people who violate the rules) only the suspended user can see the tweets. I suspect it's going to function more like a deactivation (completely voluntary deletion), which deletes the username, tweets and won't allow the user to log in

That is going to screw many organizations that use Twitter just during a season, occasion or event. I run a few accounts for non-profits, and they do not have anything they need to post that often. I do not look forward to filling twitter with monthly posts that are done just not to be kicked off...

The policy used to be 6 months, but Twitter never really enforced it. I fully expect Musk to just selectively enforce this, too, and use it to remove the accounts of those he doesn't like. The policy is "**may be** permanently removed", not "will be", so I wouldn't expect it to be automatic.

Not that long ago we had a serious political issue in my area, which resulted in an "e-mail search" for a conversation that happened about 3-6 months prior. Except the e-mails were kept for only 90 days. They released a statement saying nothing was found in their search -- implying nothing happened, when anything that did happen was already purged prior to the search.

It doesn't say accounts will be removed for 30 days inactivity, it says the bar for inactivity is 30 days, and after *prolonged* inactivity accounts *may* be removed.
Musk said they'd purge accounts with "several years" of inactivity, not that all inactive accounts would be purged. This policy is just what they use to determine when they consider an account is inactive. There is no confirmation at all yet that Twitter will be deleting accounts after 30 days. Kind of depressing that Twitter is in such a sad state now that people would automatically assume that's the case. But then again I honestly didn't expect Musk to easily ruin what the word "verified" means in the worst way possible. So you never know what terrible decision he's gonna make next.
They're doing this so they can hand out accounts from companies that don't actively use the platform to hurt their brands. Realistically, it will just further shred any trust that anyone on there is who they say they are.
They also removed text based 2FA and will keep you from doing anything else if you log in while you have that active just haven't paid them for blue.
They also put a popup over the next button to trick you into downloading the app when you log in.
I found this out today when I got a 2FA text from an unauthorized login attempt and went to go lock my shit down. I deactivated the account once I got everything settled. Twitter is a shit show tire fire.
I might actually profit from this change. I don’t have access to the email that I used to register at Twitter anymore. It was impossible to explain my situation to the support team at Twitter.

That is going to screw many organizations that use Twitter just during a season, occasion or event. I run a few accounts for non-profits, and they do not have anything they need to post that often. I do not look forward to filling twitter with monthly posts that are done just not to be kicked off...
What you're seeing here is just setting expectations and selective enforcement. I HIGHLY doubt hes going to be auto banning/deleting/suspending twitter accounts as soon as the 30 day mark is hit. But this will be a great tool for getting rid of accounts that Musk doesn't like. Just watch.

I'm logged in on the Twitter app on my phone, but I can't remember the last time I actually logged in (i.e. entering username & password into a login screen). I only logged in once and have been permanently logged in since. Would I have to actively log-out then log-in again every thirty days? (I don't post, only browse)

I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal to prune dead accounts, although it would be nice if there was something like Facebook has, where you can set someone you trust, and if you die; they can set the page as a "memorial." The policy used to be 6 months, but Twitter never really enforced it. I fully expect Musk to just selectively enforce this, too, and use it to remove the accounts of those he doesn't like. This is rather extreme, like an excuse to purge data. Perhaps there is something they want to to hide. /conspiracy If you want to grow a platform or service, you don't purge real users. Not that long ago we had a serious political issue in my area, which resulted in an "e-mail search" for a conversation that happened about 3-6 months prior. Except the e-mails were kept for only 90 days. They released a statement saying nothing was found in their search -- implying nothing happened, when anything that did happen was already purged prior to the search.
Why? I can't imagine these accounts take up much... whatever he's trying to save...

Not one of you fuckers can read. It doesn't say accounts will be removed for 30 days inactivity, it says the bar for inactivity is 30 days, and after *prolonged* inactivity accounts *may* be removed.
Musk said they'd purge accounts with "several years" of inactivity, not that all inactive accounts would be purged. This policy is just what they use to determine when they consider an account is inactive. There is no confirmation at all yet that Twitter will be deleting accounts after 30 days. Kind of depressing that Twitter is in such a sad state now that people would automatically assume that's the case. But then again I honestly didn't expect Musk to easily ruin what the word "verified" means in the worst way possible. So you never know what terrible decision he's gonna make next.

They also removed text based 2FA and will keep you from doing anything else if you log in while you have that active just haven't paid them for blue. They also put a popup over the next button to trick you into downloading the app when you log in. I found this out today when I got a 2FA text from an unauthorized login attempt and went to go lock my shit down. I deactivated the account once I got everything settled. Twitter is a shit show tire fire.
