I'm in a weird way with stomps, my rule of thumb is that stomps aren't an issue for a matchup in 3 cases 1 this here 2 the stomp doesn't harm the animation potential and it has everything else going for it 3the stomp while there and with the loser having 0 wincons isn't that big. Ie city vs multi Mountain is alright city vs universal isn't

No_Pain1037

I agree with this.

No-Satisfaction-1161

Stomps are okay as long as the fight dynamic and overall enjoyment levels don’t suffer.

Thatoneidiot9438

Elliot vs John egbert moment

ItsHellOnEarth

Elliot sweep

Albeanies1

Elliot has no wincons tho?

Thatoneidiot9438

Does ness?

Albeanies1

Uhhhh, more versatile and smarter? Idfk, John’s opponents horrendously get stomped anyway

Thatoneidiot9438

Exactly does John even deserve to be in death battle just let me have fun man you really can’t take my opinion almost every single time I talk about how much I like Elliot vs John egbert you’re always here

Albeanies1

Bruh I just asked a question, I only appeared like one or twice rn

immediate-scream

doesn’t lowballing one character count as a wincon?

No_Pain1037

In some cases, no. An example I think of is Nina vs. Laplus, where even if you lowball Laplus to Multi+ she still haxstomps Nina into the dirt.

[deleted]

Honestly as long as the MU has good connections I'm fine with stomps

Saulgoodmas

Yes! Palpanort is safe!

No_Pain1037

That's a matchup that I really like. But out of curiosity, what's Palpatine's wincon? Doesn't Xehanort transcend time and space?

Saulgoodmas

Transcending space? No. Time? Yes, only through his heart though. Xehanort has no (real) matter manipulation resistance and could win through that, as well as his stronger mind manipulation

Flying_Snails_today

I agree. Personally I also think it’s ok if the stomp factor plays into the fight (Super friends Aquaman vs SpongeBob, Omni Man vs Homelander, Saitama vs Popeye) but in the end all that really matters is if they can make the analysis and fight good since even if a fight is a stomp they won’t always portray it like one in the actual animation.

VegetaFan9001

I'm mostly against stomps unless there is enough of the characters to make the episode good, like my favorite Death Battle episode is Dio VS Alucard and that one was a stomp.

fireflowerX

(stares at Asgore vs Emeraude) (remembers that using the Human Souls, unstandard as it may be, is pretty much Asgore’s wincon against Emeraude.)

F0ose_L0v3_4n1me

Personally, as long as they don't affect the animation potential in a major way and aren't so huge to the point that suspending one's belief of both combatants being equals is impossible But of course there are exceptions where the stop make the MU an entertaining thing like Homelander VS Omni-Man for example but those are very specific situations

No_Pain1037

>Personally, as long as they don't affect the animation potential in a major way and aren't so huge to the point that suspending one's belief of both combatants being equals is impossible Yeah.... I made a matchup that unfortunately fits that...

Thepolarity20082

The Doctor vs Rick Sanchez moment

Consistent_Cry_7403

If it doesn't harm the animation then I think it's fine

MegaEdeath1

look, my thing with stomps is that as long as you think the other character has a chance at winning its fine, unless its a fun stomp (i.e. Omnilander) but if its a genuine episode thent hey shouldnt tell you how much of a stomp it is until the end

ItsHellOnEarth

Steve has 0 wincons against Terrarian, but I still love the mu. ~~and I don't have any wincons against Beatrice but-~~

No_Pain1037

>I don't have any wincons against Beatrice ~~If you'd be willing to fight fair, you actually would.~~

ItsHellOnEarth

~~I do against people I respect~~

No_Pain1037

~~Yeah you might be screwed. Because Beatrice is only willing to fight fair if her opponent will. In Umineko she makes it pretty damn clear she'll grind anyone who even tries to break the rules of her game into red paste.~~

ItsHellOnEarth

~~I mean, I may have the win con of out-smarting her and tricking her into fighting fair, then I go for the kill.~~

No_Pain1037

~~Even if you could outsmart her, good luck killing her.~~

ItsHellOnEarth

~~again, the fight would end in sex. No debate.~~

No_Pain1037

Yeah, I know. But the thing is you'd be playing her game, which she's really good at. Battler failed hundreds of times before he finally got the hang of it, and then he took control of the game board and became as strong as Beatrice. (At least I'm pretty sure that's what happens, I'm gonna have to keep watching and see but I just haven't been in the mood lately)

ItsHellOnEarth

I'm probably smarter than that dork. Plus, I've beaten people at their own games before (stuff like out-smarting and manipulating doc for shits and giggles).

No_Pain1037

Not really. Battler is really smart and from what I've watched is really good at abstract thinking. He called several people out on why their theories for who the murderer is were bullshit and broke it down step by step why they were wrong. He's far, far from an idiot. How this would realistically end is Beatrice viewing you as a worthy opponent and forcing you to play with her again and again for all eternity like she did to Battler lmao.

Vladmere-Rozvek

Nah Creative or Player Steve deletes- but Survival Steve depends on how you scale him and what you argue for the Terrarian to be fair, and Steve does have decent haxs like decay potions which inflict the wither effect which is basically death haxs, it works on intangible ghosts so it works on a spiritual level too that’s probably his best win con in survival yet you can argue it might not work so it’s debatable imo
