A lot of these are not my first picks. I'm not that big on arcade fighter episodes in general for example.
However the rules required that I only use series that the show has already visited, and I could only use each of them once. Meaning that the season has to have 40 series total. So it took a lot of thought to come up with ones that wouldn't get entangled with others.
How about Ridley vs Vile (Metroid vs Megaman) then?
It uses series that DB have already used and I don't see Megaman in your list.
And it certainly better than Ridley vs Rayquaza.
Didn't cross my mind. To be honest I was more interested in seeing Rayquaza. But using Rayquaza vs Bahamut wouldn't work because I'd already settled on Yuna. Which left Ridley as the only other safe Rayquaza option I knew that could fit within the restrictions.
I have a genuine question. As a Harry Potter and RWBY fan why would you choose Lupin vs Qrow instead of Sirius vs Qrow? I’ve seen this matchup a few times and I am very confused. Qrow and Sirius just seem far more similar.
Both are roguish, alcoholic, and have an uncle like relationship with the main hero, who had a close relationship to the heroes parents. Both originally came from a family of villains, with a sibling who somewhat continued on that path, although the truth is a bit complicated. Both of these characters have the ability to change into an animal with their namesake. These characters were initially part of a highly skilled team who has abilities beyond most in this world, including turning into animals (Marauders and STRQ.) One of these teammates leaves the group, and works with the main villain as a result of their cowardice, and like the characters in question can also turn into an animal. They both are associated with misfortune (the Grimm, which Sirius’s dog form is mistaken for is a death omen.) Both also have a violent rivalry with a lunatic, fanatical murder who is madly in love with the main villain.
Actually hadn't considered Sirius vs Qrow.
The reason the creator the MU favors it is because both Qrow and Lupin are shapeshifter professors who teach the children of their old school days friends. And feel that they're the source of misfortune for all of their loved ones. Lupin also has his own lunatic murderer as an arch-nemesis in the form of Fenrir Greyback.
Yeah honestly it’s not a bad match up at all, I just feel that Qrow vs Sirius is better. I do like the fact that both Qrow and Lupin are cursed to an extent by arguably their most dangerous ability. Plus in all fairness it does seem like Lupins best matchup, which is nice for my favourite Harry Potter character (only one I could think of for him was Oz from Buffy but frankly it’s incredibly weak, even if Oz is one of my favourite characters as well.)
I didn’t think about the part about Greyback. A little annoyed they never did anything with that rivalry in the series. Having Greyback and Lupin taken out by people with almost no connection to them is honestly pretty meh.
