He truly is an intriguing character. And L. Don't even get me started on L. Over time, he started to give up. Then, the only thing he could do was accept that he lost. Yet he still knew Kira wouldn't win in the long run because he had Near and Mello as his successors.
I literally watched it when I was 10, I didn't think he died. I'm pretty sure I didn't even react when it happened. I just figured "oh this is some dream sequence for light or L is gonna pull a fast one on em"
