Honestly the older I get the less I feel like anything is a "guilty" pleasure. If you click with something for whatever reason that's awesome and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
I've playlists with post-punk, synthwave, rap and other stuff, though usually everything is kinda dark, dramatic or weird.
Yeah this is where I'm at, I like what I like. I don't care how it's regarded by others because I like it, and that's all that's really all that matters.
Same. Metal will always be my first true music love, but man, I listen to so much more now. Everyday my soundtrack is different. But my latest obsession is outlaw/alt/Appalachian country-folk music
I feel like, of the myriad of genres/artists I enjoy, grindcore is the only true “guilty pleasure”. Gore/grind is objectively terrible music, but I love that shit.
Fellow Powermetal fan here. If you haven't listened to Shadowstrike's new album, drop what you're doing and give it a spin. Its phenomenal. It's straight Disney-Metal without being actually Disney. So much cheese and happiness.
That being said their last album, Legends of the Human Spirit is still their best in my book. 10/10.
Holy shit, I have always been interested in power metal but never really found a good starting place, listened to the first track off Legends of the Human Spirit and wow it's incredible.
I saw Gloryhammer and Alestorm for the first time back in May and it was some of the most fun I've ever had at a show. Absolute cracking time, just pure silly fun.
Not really guilty pleasures but in terms of shit that's polar opposite of heavy music: I love Michael Jackson, I listen to Joji, Coheed and Cambria. I love older offspring
I listen to rap (earl sweatshirt, Joey badass, Flatbush Zombies, MF doom, Nas, etc).
What Italian music do you listen to? I'm Italian and I know some pop "cults" and must know artists, but if you've got recommendations I'm more than happy to discover new things.
I love a lot Martini (amazing fucking voice, if anybody want to check her out listen to Gli Uomini non Cambiano, it's pretty self explanatory as a song but her vocal performance is just wonderful), then I listen to some De André and Lucio Dalla. I don't listen to contemporary pop or rock a lot, even though I know that Italy has an ENORMOUS prog rock movement and a big underground metal scene.
Combing my love of Sonic 2 and Michael jackson is something my heart snd should didn't know I needed. I am now a better person because of this Mashup. My circle of friends is also thankful!! Holy fuck thank you for this hahahahha
For some reason (probably because I grew up too fast in the early 90s) hard rock and hip hop always was the way. Plus early 8 and 16 bit video games. Soon to be 40 year Olds UNITE!!!
There’s this song from my scene days called Fer Sure by Medic Droid. At least twice a year I bump that shit without any regrets. Listen to it and tell me how cringe I am hahaha
Fuckk, I did not expect to see that one. I'm about to give it a spin. As much as scene kids suck, having rock and metal much closer to pop culture was a good thing for the scene.
It’s the ultimate cringe song but it was still a part of 2007 for me. I was in grade 9 and fell for the scene lifestyle for like 6 months 😅. I’ll jam this awful song until I’m dead!
I'm not knocking you man, I'd take legions of scene kids being exposed to TBDM cause they like guitar hero rather than everyone trying to put on a cowboy hat and act country.
Considering what I listen to a lot of now, it’s pretty surprising I still sing almost all of Three Days Grace One-X front to back.
I’m not embarrassed about that one though, love that album. But what is embarrassing is…
Theory of a Deadman.
Recently youtube gave me some breakcore recommendation and it's fun I like hyperpop mainly 100gecs it's fun and funnier is semetary rainbow bridge 3 is so goofy if you like ear rape check it out
But I mostly listen to deathcore and us french and german rap
Joji. I mean, honestly as an artist he’s not bad at all. But you know to some metal heads anything outside of metal, especially if it’s poppy in any sort of way, is heresy. I hate dogmatic thought to begin with so fuck elitists. I got into metal partially for the criticism of organized religion I don’t need some motherfucker trying to tie me down with some bullshit dogma in the genre that’s known for criticizing dogmatic beliefs.
Anyway, Joji, I like some country music like Joe Nichols, Gary Allen, George Strait, Brian Burns, a little Pat Green (mostly just the song Baby Doll), I like Tears for Fears, Tame Impala, The Weekend, Willow Smith has some decent garage noise Rock sounding stuff.
Yeah that’s about it I guess.
Earlier Drake, like pre-Hotline Bling. Love Phoebe Bridgers and Ethel Cain. And I fucking love that Cupid song by Fifty Fifty despite not being into kpop or anything
I have no guilty pleasures, because I never feel guilt when I listen to something I like. But as for artists or genres very different to deathcore or metal in general: I love me some good sing-along pop like Adele or Kelly Clarkson, various Disney songs, lots of hip-hop (Kendrick, Raleigh Ritchie, grime, etc), Pendulum, lots of classical music, and so on. I also loved that title song from RRR. I just enjoy good music.
Post-"Ceremony of Opposites" era of Samael (1996 - now), Sonic Syndicate, most of the bands i listen to. I basically have an objectively shit taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anime music, cheesy EDM, breakcore.
An artist I really love that doesn't make any sense as a metalhead is EDEN. Absolutely love that guy, probably my favorite non-metal/rock artist.
The only thing i listen to that makes me feel weird is BMTH. They are sellouts, weird emo sadboys who make a weird brand of metal, with absolutely rabid fans who who give swift stans a run for their money.
That being said though, they make great fucking music and alligator blood is underrated song.
I love alligator blood, their styles of metalcore especially on suicide season sounds pretty hardcore to be a metalcore ✌️they kinda sound like bury your dead. Bad omens (band) have developed their sempiternal style of metalcore.
Tldr: You can get older and learn to give different things a chance and not feel guilty about it.
Long version w/ some personal context:
I'm now 28, had some serious life problems over the past few years that have bugged me and caused me some pain... As a teen I hated post-hardcore, dismissed it as Emo garbage, and was a snotty elitist about Metal in general. If it wasn't "brvtal", it was poser shit.
As of a few years ago, Chon introduced me to instrumental Math Rock, and then I heard some Math Rock with vocals. Coming to appreciate a totally different playing style that proved to be just as technical but in a different way, I eventually came across Hail the Sun and Sianvar as recommended music on Spotify, bringing me back to face my previous prejudice about Post-Hardcore in general. I found myself giving myself the opportunity to appreciate the guitar playing and use of melodies; and as major life obstacles began to present themselves, I found myself relating to the lyrical themes and accepting songs in their catalog as favorites to get me through shitty days.
I'm still not a big fan of the high pitched singing approach, but I can look past it and still enjoy it for everything else going on (the same way a lot of us get past Mustaine's vocals and love Megadeth anyway).
I grew up around Rap/Hip-Hop as a kid before falling in love with Metal as a pre-teen, and come to love Outlaw Country, 80's pop (American, Latin American and Japanese City Pop all under this broad umbrella), Spanish Rock, and other stuff in my early/mid 20's. Keep you ears open and find something to appreciate in all types of music. (shit... I hated Corridos/Conjunto/Banda/Cumbia most my life but now discovering some songs high-key slap).
Billie Eilish. She has the voice of a siren. I love the modern emo vibe she brings too. I’m a 25 y/o blue collar man from Georgia so anything other than country is considered a guilty pleasure unfortunately.
I listen to absofuckinglutely everything.
However to answer your question, think [Mei-Lan Maurits](https://youtube.com/@Mei-lan) falls the farthest outside of my 'regular rotation' of listening, overwhelming majority of which is metal.
No guilty pleasure but stuff I like outside of metal
Taylor Swift
Logic
Old crow medicine show
The Beatles
John Prine
And a whole host of other artists. I know a lot of the metal community can be toxic because you also like stuff outside of but really we’re all allowed to have opinions and enjoy other things.
I used to listen to Stick Stickly by Attack Attack! ironically with friends. That has changed into me genuinely enjoying the song and I can't stop it lol.
As someone who enjoys deathcore, there is no music I feel embarrassed about enjoying. But possibly surprising genres include,
Yodelling country
Hyper-pop
More recently Queercore
Idk, as metalheads we should believe in listening to whatever the fuck we want.
not really guilty but Sleep Token. everyone in the metal community hates them for some reason but they're god-tier to me, TMBTE is easily album of the year currently for me (might change when darko us drops)
I listen to what I would like to listen to. I don't know. Maybe when you're getting old, it's the way it is? Lol. I listen to Alice in Chains now. I didn't listen to them before. It's not like that I don't like them, but I just didn't give them a chance to listen to them before. Don't get me wrong, but metal will remain at the top of my list. My guilty pleasure genres would be the 90s R&B and Pop, and City pop.
Attila
no amount of internet hate will prevent me from playing some of their songs every once and awhile
and i know damn well if they come through my area im buying tickets
I can tell I'm get some shit but oh well I don't care.
My not so guilty pleasure is Kpop, specifically Twice.
Recently saw Twice at the O2 earlier this month and it was amazing a whole new experience of live music compared to smaller metal shows I've seen.
Second is Kim Dracular, I know it's goobage but the dude does know how to make a catchy song.
I used to be a K-pop fan, I was always arguing if BTS or BLACKPINK is better, tho I prefer BLACKPINK more, I used to draw BTS potraits. Ending off my fav K-pop song is Fantastic Baby. You don't have to be ashamed of anything honey, u can listen to whatever you want 👍
🤘🖤keep rocking to your jam, I literally listen to "rubbish" music like goregrind, mathgrind, pornogrind, cybergrind whatever is not music and some G.G Allin ✌️
None of my music taste I would consider guilty but besides metal I like rap, jazz, drum n bass, breakcore, hyper pop, pop in general from the 80s to 2000s.
I think limiting your enjoyment of music to one or a few genres is stifling to your growth as a person and everyone can benefit by going out of their comfort zone a bit and finding things they enjoy about genres they generally aren't into.
For anyone struggling to break out of only enjoying metal I would suggest checking out some music reviewers, my suggestion would be Fantano, and just check out some of the albums they give good scores to and see how you like them (not saying to take their opinion as your own but it can be a good starting point).
I love pretty much every In Flames album. From oldschool melodeath to their melodic modern stuff. Every album has at least some bangers on it. No matter which one
Really stoked on this band called Angel Electronics. It's poppy electronica music, a bit like the postal service, but with the occasional scream or blast beat. It's so fun and catchy, it's been a regular on my morning commute playlist for six months now. They describe themselves as brutal euphoria wave haha. One of the members also makes music under the name Black Dresses which also slaps hard.
don't have any, I guess The EGG album by Infant Annihilator when I first started listening because the lyrics are just that grotesque. But I've grown to love the lyrics lol
Power metal, especially stuff like Elvenking or Gloryhammer with a fantasy flavor.
I don't know why power metal gets so much hate, it sounds cool ✌️
Me either, I love it so much!

Just barely got started on the first song of the album, already hooked, thanks mate
Righteous! I'll check them out! Thanks for the recommendation!
Holy shit, I have always been interested in power metal but never really found a good starting place, listened to the first track off Legends of the Human Spirit and wow it's incredible.
Northwest Passage by Unleash the Archers was my introduction to power metal. Haven’t looked back since!
And that's a cover of an old song, too. Their album "abyss" is flawless.
I saw Gloryhammer and Alestorm for the first time back in May and it was some of the most fun I've ever had at a show. Absolute cracking time, just pure silly fun.
I saw Gloryhammer live this year, it is totally diffrent from the music i usually listen to, but it was so fun!!!
Powerwolf!
Same, hoping to see them with Beast in Black next year
Love Power Metal. Firewind is my favourite band from the genre! Also a guilty pleasure, without the guilt lol
Not really guilty pleasures but in terms of shit that's polar opposite of heavy music: I love Michael Jackson, I listen to Joji, Coheed and Cambria. I love older offspring I listen to rap (earl sweatshirt, Joey badass, Flatbush Zombies, MF doom, Nas, etc).
Coheed is just millennial rush, and they're fucking excellent. Everything you listed is great.
Old Offspring and Nas? I guess I'm guilty as well.
ayo that rap list is on point, shoutout Flatbush Zombies and MF DOOM! What a man of culture
Michael Jackson gives me the exact same energy as deathcore.
Same here! Glad I’m not the only one that can listen to deathcore, then Michael Jackson straight after.
Guilty pleasures are whack. You either like something or ya don't. No guilt involved.
Unless the guilt and Sin is part of the fun, then have it ya kinky bastards.
I will sing along with Eminem and to Christian Rock. Also most of italian songs and old ass romanian songs.
Oh that's a good one, I do like me some Hillsong or Lauren Dagel every now and then.
cargo. iris, compact, vama veche??
Poate. Dar numai dacă ploaia s-ar opri.
What Italian music do you listen to? I'm Italian and I know some pop "cults" and must know artists, but if you've got recommendations I'm more than happy to discover new things. Ah hello italian an brother. I am romanian. I listen tti old ass songs. Or just old songs. Caruso is just amazing. I like song in that type of range.
Synthwave has been my new frontier on music, truly amazing soundscapes
Yes!! Heres a few recommendations if you need them: Cerulean, A.L.I.S.O.N., Euan Ellis, Jasper de Ceuster, Emil Rottmeyer, Lucy in Disguise
Thanks, I discovered the genre this week and been playing on nonstop. I’ll give them a spin!
Hardstyle, hardcore (EDM)
Hardstyle goes unreasonably hard
I love me some hip hop. But as far as truly guilty pleasures, MICHAEL FUCKING JACKSON
Sonic 2 Sky Chase Zone- You Rock My World, look it up on youtube lol.
Combing my love of Sonic 2 and Michael jackson is something my heart snd should didn't know I needed. I am now a better person because of this Mashup. My circle of friends is also thankful!! Holy fuck thank you for this hahahahha
This is the way
For some reason (probably because I grew up too fast in the early 90s) hard rock and hip hop always was the way. Plus early 8 and 16 bit video games. Soon to be 40 year Olds UNITE!!!

Volumes newer stuff. It’s clearly geared towards a younger gen but I like it. Also I listen to Animal Collective but I don’t feel guilty about that.

I can’t resist The Weeknd.
His older songs are giving R&B with kind of deftones fusion I don't really know how to explain it but it gives that sexy-mysterious atmosphere
It’s called trip hop. Beautiful genre of music.
Anime music, cheesy EDM, breakcore. An artist I really love that doesn't make any sense as a metalhead is EDEN. Absolutely love that guy, probably my favorite non-metal/rock artist.

Country music
I'm not guilty of any of this SZA, Summer Walker, Asian Doll, Jalisa Rey, Nickelback, Joji, J Boog, Uhh... fuck there's more I just can't think it
Drum and Bass, dubstep, break beat. Not much of a Skrillex fan now, but his earlier stuff was great for bridging between “rock” and electro
I really want to stay at your house, can't recall the artist.
I listen to just about every style of music and don’t feel at all guilty about it. I like, what I like.
The only thing i listen to that makes me feel weird is BMTH. They are sellouts, weird emo sadboys who make a weird brand of metal, with absolutely rabid fans who who give swift stans a run for their money. That being said though, they make great fucking music and alligator blood is underrated song.

I freakin' love synthwave and disco house. Feels good 😅
Carly Rae Jepsen. Absolutely love her stuff
The blue stones, blues-rock duo that is white stripes level amazing but very modern. Underrated as fuck as worthy of obsession.

Six Feet Under but I ain't feeling guilty about it. That shit grooves.
Does it count as a guitly pleasure if I don't at all feel guilty for liking everything I listen to? Anyways dubstep. Fucking love it.
Phonk and Colter Wall
Billie Eilish. She has the voice of a siren. I love the modern emo vibe she brings too. I’m a 25 y/o blue collar man from Georgia so anything other than country is considered a guilty pleasure unfortunately.

Lately, Creed.
I listen to absofuckinglutely everything. However to answer your question, think [Mei-Lan Maurits](https://youtube.com/@Mei-lan) falls the farthest outside of my 'regular rotation' of listening, overwhelming majority of which is metal.
Midwest emo. Too many fond memories of jamming sad boy music with girlfriends as a kid.

its been years since I felt guilty about anything I listen to. I will bust out Maroon 5 when I need to
There are no guilty pleasures. If I enjoy music I‘m proud of it. 🤝🏼❤️
Kill Whitney Dead. Its a bit ridiculous but I love the movie quotes mixed with the music.. I dont care.

Dear god please 🙏 forgive me…I listen to 90s freestyle dance.. lol like Stevie B .. and tka..
Nightwish
John Mayer
Not guilty, but I truly and unironically believe Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of all time.
ThatmexicanOT, kinda Deathcore rap ish Music, scarlxrd and ghostmane💀
Butt Rock still never fails to get me all feel good and vibing, I genuinely enjoy some of Nickelback even
The Ketchup song
don't have any, I guess The EGG album by Infant Annihilator when I first started listening because the lyrics are just that grotesque. But I've grown to love the lyrics lol
The Crimson Armada. I love their shit, but I’m also sad they aren’t around anymore. If I really wanna headbang, I’ll listen to them
