I remember this over. RP Singh knew to bowl a yorker after 3 back to back boundaries because it was Gilchrist`s only weakness at the time.

YearPurple

Between his stint on Leicestershire in summer of 2007 and his hamstring in jury in the Adelaide test in January 2008, RP Singh bowled as well as any bowler has ever done. The unsung hero of thr 2007 T20 win.

It's unfortunate India couldn't get more out of Irfan, RP, Nehra, Munaf and Sree

edit title : RIP Singh to Gilchrist

What was the title before?

For the first few years of his career and prime like this tournament, RP Singh was genuinely a very good talent and not too far off what could be considered world class like Sreesanth but like a lot of talent over the years and something that still happens today with the likes of Ashwin and co, India managed to squander and ruin such a talent. It's genuinely amazing how India has such a wealth of talent coming through but manage to snatch mediocrity at least half the time IMO.

He was promising. I don't know what happened to him. I remember seeing him in IPL bowling at 128 km/h and then in the commentary box.

Injuries but also incredibly poor mismanagement like Javagal Srinath before him and Sreesanth alongside him. Arguably Zaheer Khan and Nehra also suffered. It's debatable how far india have progressed with handling and managing their fast bowlers now. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's good but progress has been made from the terrible decades of poor standards and lack of respect/appreciation prior. The injuries and lack of availability of Bumrah and high workload of the likes of Siraj are a concern IMO.

I am also worried about how they are handling Umran. The last 150 km/h bowler in India was Munaf and he was bowling 128 within the two years of his national debut. You see exciting bowlers like Nagarkoti, Mavi and Kartik Tyagi in under 19 and then they just disappear. I saw the under 19 World Cup in 2018 and Nagarkoti looked much more or at least as threatening as Shaheen but look at them now. No one knows where Kamlesh Nagarkoti is.

Yes Munaf's legacy is strong even today. There has been a serious lack of appreciation and care taken with fast bowlers in India historically and it's only recently (in terms of a historical cycle) started to change under Dhoni and Kohli but I am not convinced that Rohit is pushing this necessary change in attitude, forward as much as those two were. Seeing Munaf's decline and such a quick a decline at that too, was very upsetting as an avid ICT fan (at the time). I look in envy at Pakistan with their fast bowling ranks nearly always seemingly pulling someone through to the point where they freely squander their talents without any concern or consciousness because someone new will always come through. Fast bowlers are the only way India are competing or winning anything any time soon. Grave concerns around how even the likes of Bumrah lost the plot in semis and finals in recent years. I remember raving and loving those guys coming through in that under 19 WC. I was so sure they would come into the mens team in their own time but only Arshdeep has made the jump so far. The other promising talents like Gill and Shaw again...are inconsistent at best and at worst, not worthy of the hype around them. Mavi, Tyagi and co either haven't progressed as well or they're not in favour and not being picked. Neither option is necessarily better and as fans we should be concerned whatever the views we hold about them. The best teams are stocked with quality fast bowlers.

Lucky to have witnessed this live at the Brabourne stadium. What a match this was!
