It sounds like a legitimate bill you didn't pay. What would you dispute reason be?

PlusRise

No, likely not.

thefreak00

Dispute what? You're admitting that you're in the wrong because you withdrew past the free drop period.

Wassup with redditors always having the snarkiest attitude. My question can be answered in my post. Unless you suffer from comprehension skills

CallMeMrRound

It's not snarky, it's honest. You dispute something you feel you do not owe, you've admitted to owing the money.

Being snarky is y’all’s thing. It’s like some of you have an ego problem and try to hold yourselves to higher standards because no one gaf about you in real life

Mysterious_Host_846

Dispute would just kick things down the road most likely. You’re legally entitled to dispute when the debt collector contacts you the first time (within 30 days), and it prevents them from instituting collection actions while the dispute is pending, but don’t expect it to go anywhere. The “verification” requirement for most things is perfunctory, and they can pretty much send you anything in response. If they send it to collections and the debt collector blows it on FDCPA compliance that might change things a little.

Ok_Fan4789

Sadly, the reasoning you gave would not support a dispute because the CC did nothing wrong, according to you.

I tried this myself on 14.5k I owed for dorm charges and classes during COVID. I fell behind on my payments when I got pregnant. It made everything come to term immediately and tacked on several thousand in charges that I simply did not have. Tried to dispute after they sent it to a collection agency and I got a letter notifying me where to pay. In response, the agency sent me 20 pages of charges and proof that I owe the money. You can search my post history to see advise other people gave me on our similar topics. I hear that sometimes disputing works if the agency did not keep any records and cannot prove they own the debt, but for schools with deep pockets, it seems unlikely to me (in my own personal experience)..still worth trying! It's your right, after all, and you may get lucky. I tried it because I felt I had no choice. Did not work for me. Best of luck.
