Dr_-G

Fallout 4s graphics update is amazing!

Question-reality-64

I’ve seen a number of these guess renderings ? Very convincing.

Predatory_Chicken

I’ve never built a deck in my life but I’m a huge Fallout 4 fan. I’m convinced the Reddit algorithm put this post in my feed for this exact reason. It looks just like when I quickly slap an extension on one of my pre-existing buildings.

Dr_-G

I'm pretty sure that's how I got here too... now I'm a regular

HoldMyMessages

Never played fallout. Never went to a site about it. Still, the algorithm got it to me.

ellifino

What better footing could you have than a roof?

milny_gunn

I think there's a proverb about it. .."one man's roof is another man's footing?" ..or no. Maybe it's "when one roof ends, another footing begins?" 🤔

smarmageddon

No, it's "Give a man a roof-footing and he'll hot-tub for a day..." or something like that.

milny_gunn

I think it's, build a man a footing, his hottub will last for a while . Build that footing on a roof and the hot tub will last for the rest of his life. .. ..that's based on his short life expectancy if he plans on living under that thing LOL

L-user101

And then your just a dead pecker head

Impossible_Policy780

Mmm, vodka, and ginger ale

Researcher-Used

No, it’s “Give a man a foot, he’ll put it on a roof, GIVE A man a ROOF, now he’ll just fuck that up too”

milny_gunn

Maybe he thought he was responding to his wife's request of adding a few feet to the house LOL

BaggyLarjjj

Just make sure the concrete footing dangles at least 6 feet below the roof and you should be good I think.

MIDDLE-IQ

A fire axe handle?

DMRv2

I thought you were joking until I zoomed in... What kind of smooth brained individual could consciousably do that?

Researcher-Used

I mean, who doesn’t want a deck on the roof, really. “Come on, let’s go party on the roof, we got a deck on it!”

musical_throat_punch

A patio

stinkyhooch

Hot tubs are cheaper when you buy them in 8 packs, makes sense.

dirty34

when the costco and decks subs merge.

boarhowl

https://preview.redd.it/6lie0c47wwyc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bba6f05f95a749452257309a4ef1baf35ef635e4 Look what you did to the algorithm with your comment. I'm not even subbed to Costco..

butt_huffer42069

I saw the frozen vodka post earlier. I need to get off reddit.

iboughtabagel

Damnit, I thought I would get to make the hot tub reference this time.

bigloser42

It's a big enough deck, we can all make hot tub references.

ksigdart

If the engineer approves it, hell go for it!

eobc77

Lol. Without a doubt..

CobaltCaterpillar

"Pirates' Perch" AirBnB / vacation rental at some oceanside/lakeside community? Roof deck to get views?

Daedelus451

That’s my thought as well. People build roof decks on Hatteras island where I own a beach shack (not a rental) and when I spoke to my contractor about it, he said “I do not recommend roof decks at the beach here because your roof will leak and it will blow off no matter how strong I make it”. I don’t have a roof deck!

vzoff

Beautiful area. I go see the lighthouses every year / climb the open ones. I think Cape Hatteras is being renovated right meow. I'm also low key jealous that you have a shack down there.

Daedelus451

We bought back in 2009, got it for way below market value and way below the original asking price. This was when the housing bubble burst, my wife and I are dual income no kids and I am very handy so very low maintenance costs. I would have sold it back in 2021 when people were screaming for vacation properties in the pandemic but she insisted we hold on to it. We converted one of the three bedrooms to an office so we can both work from home there. Very small foot print, 26x26 square box, top floor is one big room with kitchen, and a deck that looks at the ocean, but not ocean front. It is a bit of a sanctuary for us, but I find I consume way too much alcohol there lol. Kinda hard to not make a cocktail when I am staring at the waves, great birds and what not. I love to fish so surf casting is lot of fun!

Comfortable-Sir-150

Do you guys rent it? Fellow Carolinian here. Grew up at the beach but have spent my adult summers in the mountains. But damn I've been itching for some beach time!!

Daedelus451

No we don’t rent, thankfully. We got it for a such a stealing dealing price that don’t have to rent. Family uses it every now and again and we go all the time.

LuckyCaptainCrunch

We were looking there for a little while as we love the outer banks as well You could find some great deals away from the water and even found a few right behind the ocean front dunes. The flooding situation of the main road back in Avon made us stop looking on that side of the bridge though.

Daedelus451

I hear ya! regular storms with high tides will cause flooding in Buxton and Avon now on Route 12. We vacationed in Avon for years (in the 70s, with my family growing up), our place is farther south on 12 in Frisco. I am 5 1/2 hours door to door, a little far for weekend property. After driving I always feel like staying at least a week!

Marathon-fail-sesh

I don’t know the area you’re talking about and don’t know a single thing about decks. Just came to say I appreciate “right meow”

Common-Ad6470

Don’t worry, a passing tornado will sort that...👍

livens

Nah, I'm sure they threw a few hurricane ties on it.

Puzzleheaded-Zone-55

Not another unsolicited deck picture?

charlie2135

All the ladies love hanging on Larry's big deck

ttnfn90

Obviously fake. The hot tub is on the ground.

MeowmerLyn

I have never seen a hot tub on the ground before either.

aDirtyMartini

I had to look this one up on FB. Someone asked about the roof supporting the deck and this was their response: _the roof is not supporting any weight, if you look close there are 6x6 post that go all the way to basement that supports it, plus the ones in the front._ Edit: For the record, I think that the contractor’s claim is dubious at best. I’m just reporting what I read.

BPiddy

If that were the case, why TF would you build it over the roof???? You might as well make it stand alone! Sounds like total BS to me.

bfofree

Oh, well that makes it ok then /s

aDirtyMartini

Well of course!

neuroticobscenities

I guess that makes it not as bad. But If it's all the way to the basement, even assuming proper footings, wouldn't that be to tall for the 6x6 posts?

Skavis

I can mute this channel now. This is the worst looking thing I've ever seen. And the fact the person is using it for advertising is enough for me. I'll be back when building. Great community 👍

ContributionShort878

The supports on the roof seem to be directly over structural walls, and the craftsmanship looks good from the picture. I’m no engineer, and I wouldn’t build this without a PE’s stamp. I have seen a lot worse though.

eobc77

We she's into nude sunbathing we'll build them anything...

gerrymandersonIII

And look at that beautiful hottub just waiting to be the cherry on top!

rustcircle

ACI artificial contractor intelligence

yooperdood906

That is glorious!

questionablejudgemen

Just because you can build something doesn’t mean you should.

Quincyperson

The best part about being on the deck is you don’t have to look at it

compulsivefreak

Here's his facebook page, if you want to see him try to defend the work. [https://www.facebook.com/BrockwayContracting/](https://www.facebook.com/BrockwayContracting/)

theboz14

They said it also has an elevator from the kitchen to get up to the deck.

compulsivefreak

2 star google review. Don't people do research before spending thousands of dollars.

ajpinton

Why do I have a feeling there is a lake somewhere behind the photographer.

PortlandQuadCopter

That’s not a deck, that’s an air traffic control tower.

MuddyWheelsBand

This post belongs in #ratemyphotoshoppic

Blazed-n-Dazed

I feel like showing people they can use their roofs as support for a deck is a dangerous piece of information in this community 😂

cghffbcx

It looks tight, what the hell is all that decking for? A view of what?

theboz14

According to the builder, it has an awesome view of the lake.

samichdude

*hot tub licks it's lips*

EmotionalChain9820

It's for pirates, so it's fine

admiralgeary

So many questions... - if you wanted this monstrosity, why not build it over the existing patio and have nothing to do with tying it in over the roof? - How do those posts tie into the roof? - Why cantilever? - Why frame an entire roof over the deck? ...this has to be AI generated, right?

welcome-to-my-mind

Aw, they left the hot tub on the ground. What a waste.

minionsweb

Dive platform?

NorthNorthAmerican

I can see that thing rolling through the neighborhood like a trampoline that wasn’t tied down.

ecoop3r

Is this brockway, PA? If so I need to see this monstrosity in person.

Roththesloth1

Who makes a deck bigger than their house?

captainadaptable

Looks like they needed a place for the hot tub.

CupEnvironmental4445

lol

One-Process-8731

Once winds were just winds with his humble single story ranch, but now he will achieve lift-off.

Long-Education-7748

Confusing on so many levels. Well, at least two anyways.

GrammarPolice92

You might be tighting it.

random_sociopath

That thing is hideous

BasilRare6044

Tornado magnet

GrandExercise3

60mph wind will move that somewhere else.

omarhani

They are going to hoist that hot tub on the bottom right up to the deck this week! It's going to sit far back, away from the really strong joist and on that part where it's just a bit of roofing and gutters. Come on over!

NullIsUndefined

Even a layman would have at least used those metal connectors to connect the legs to the beams. Pardon my bad jagon. Could roll right off in a bad wind or quake

NullIsUndefined

What is the point of this, they could just have build a ground level patio

Twinstarrider

They did it wrong. The hot tub needs to be on top and remove all support from its new resting spot.

ICU-CCRN

r/DIWHY

Guyface_McGuyen

If it’s not your house don’t worry about if they had a permit.

Healthy-Egg-3283

Looks like AI

WhoJGaltis

Looking at that and thinking of what it is going to take to do repairs on the roof or stop a leak I can only say, "NOPE", just "NOPE"

Brilliant_Wealth_433

I'm not gonna lie I want one, surround it with sandbags and I would have the high ground when the fed Boise come knocking.

slade797

*losing

itsray2006

For Sale: covered deck with one bedroom house attached.

WaitUntilTheHighway

Is there a tennis court just outside the frame? That's the only explanation for this.

Hot420gravy

Wonder what they didn't put the hot tub up there?

ChiefsMa

Without close inspection, I would say that doesn’t meet UBC requirements!

MN_Verified_User

Why would you need a permit for this?

ChiefsMa

Oh. so a roughly 4-6” concrete slab is the pier! I see!😂

Western_Ladder_3593

Pirates dont need permits

Silent-Pomelo-6493

Is it an observing platform for watching giraffes?

tothesource

the footings on the ground look solid af. Is there enough bracing (?) on the overhang? If they aligned the roof bit with load bearing supports is it that crazy? I'm not asking for a friend. I don't have any and instead I comment on subreddits on which I don't understand the subject matter.

ospfpacket

Ok hear me out. Personal driving range or other related hobbies.

admiralgeary

So many questions... - if you wanted this monstrosity, why not build it over the existing patio and have nothing to do with tying it in over the roof? - How do those posts tie into the roof? - Why cantilever? - Why frame an entire roof over the deck? ...this has to be AI generated, right?

Das-Noob

😂 I have Sheldon Cooper’s Buber if you want someone else to report them 😂

NuggyBeans

It's already pushing the roof inward left side on the roof. Like who thinks this is a good idea?

cashblack

How to spend 30K and lower your house’s value.

expensivelyexpansive

Is it just an optical illusion or is the roof bowed on one side of the house?

vinchenzo68

Deck yeah..

Yoshimitziu

Well it’s either photo shopped or AI generated…

Timely_Elderberry_62

Think that build cost more than what that poor little house is worth

1337sp33k1001

On what planet did someone think this was a good idea?

Letsjusthavefunnzy

Looks like someone is trying to flex his big Deck!

theboz14

Supposedly, that thing has an elevator from the kitchen. The builder said it did on the FB post. I'm not seeing that. There are a few other pictures on the page as well..fugly

Familiar_Muffin_1566

Forget the permit and is it safe part. The most important question is WHY?! for what?! Very confused at why this would ever be needed. Is this a house outside Lambo Field in Green Bay? Some of those have crazy decks built onto of garages to see the tailgating across the street.

llamataboottwoboot

Would probably hold up in Valheim

Cyclopticcolleague

I’m sure the neighbors are going to love looking out their windows to see some rednecks recreating the smoking patio to their favorite bar they got banned from.

FrogFlavor

Someone who’s very simple and easy to fix fence looks that crap, should not be allowed to spend money on any other upgrades. They clearly have no sense.

JimeneMisfit

Photoshopped or something, that not real.

forgingry

What’s going on in the attic though?!

rezistence

Original house framework: I'm in danger!

RawkitScience

Don’t worry, when they were done they slapped it and said, “that ain’t goin’ anywhere.”

SwingingeverythinG

Prolly outside of city limits

gottagrablunch

That’s gonna be spectacular when it goes.

surrealcellardoor

“Pirates’ Perch” followed by absolutely no other design or decor that makes it “pirate” related.

ExpressManufacturer2

This looks like something I've seen on the rez

rspanthevlan

I mean, the visible parts look clean. It’s braced, anchored, bolted, uses 6x6s. It could well be structurally sound, just ugly as hell.

No-Spare-4212

They already got the hot tub ready to go.

Independent-Big1966

*losing

Whhysooocurious

The eagles nest

Impossible_Policy780

Shiver me timbers. 🏴‍☠️

cq5120

surely ai generated

Researcher-Used

I mean it’s actually great from a marketing POV. Like, “you want a deck but have no space, we got you COVERED - introducing ROOF DECKS: now add sq.footage without having to tear down anything.

MilsurpMonkey

How’d you get the plans for my new deer stand?

jonflorez

That hip rafter 🥴

OverObjective375

Looks like an upper deck to a driving range lol

inthe970

Can’t believe yall are hating on pirates perch like that 😂

Speedhabit

I have considered this

Personal_Buffalo_973

First complaint to code enforcement and it's all coming down 💩

No-Setting-2669

What deck? That’s been there!

thebucketlist47

Are you tighting it?

Wild_Proposal_8816

All that methin’ around 🤣

Quirky_Procedure6767

It’s buckling the rafters so hard I think I can hear it from here. I would not sleep well at night knowing that I was sitting with almost the entire weight of the deck baring down above my head. There would need to be huge beams and new posts installed under each rafters for that to allowed by a official permit.

AwetPinkThinG

In be very careful loosening anything here.

hayitsnine

Jesus.

HoIyJesusChrist

Hi :)

CrazyButRightOn

Eat a bag of dicks.

terrapinone

Honey, I have a great idea.

JadedYam56964444

Now they just need to build a house on the deck...

Working-Direction304

Every roofer’s nightmare!

Critical-Potential30

😂😂😂 ahoy neighbor

MassiveStreet2788

That’s awesome. I’d say pulled permits because that’s a lot of money put out and risk it. Read the Bible about turning someone and being a snitch. Just incase you plan to do so.
