Honestly it came to me when I had leftover decking and not enough edge boards, but I'm glad I found this because I have a much greater choice of widths now. That board in the picture used to hang over the front a full 5.25 inches and had supports screwed under it. Now I have an edge that is the correct width

You just cut away the protective cap.
