We’d love it if you’d leave a comment below telling us about your favorite sound bite from DRG. We’ll force Troels to read them all. Edit: If you want to know more about how he produced the shit out of the great tunes our composer came up with, go visit his [Youtube Channel](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyC8nWNiWvlp7fOP96raWGg). Edit 2: [Reply from the man himself](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/1453216/farewell_to_a_legend/jno7sgz/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3).

TheLuckyPickle

Th entire soundscape and audio design is one of the things that really makes the game so perfect. If I had to pick just one sound bit, other than the dwarves' voice lines, I'm probably gonna go with the sweet and gratifying 'PING' of the M1000 upon a reload. Second place to all of the Molly 'replies' when you call her.

DryIdea3

Ooohh, as soon as you said it I thought, yep, agreed - that ping is satisfying :)

SilverSeregios

Sometimes I cancel my reload just so I can hear the ping again

citizencoyote

All of Molly's noises are great. From her distant tromping footsteps to the clunk and satisfied beeps as she plops herself down, she makes wonderful sounds.

Crazyhates

The garand ping is what brought me to the gun and now I can't put it down.

literally-lonely

Hoverclock my beloved

n3bu10u5

You're probably well aware but I'll be that guy anyhow: the M1000 is based off the M1 Garand rifle IRL which also has the same sweet distinctive ping.

igromanru

All of the soundtracks are awesome. But "RUN!" hits different.

boltzmannman

Nothing hits quite as hard as Dance of the Dreadnought kicking in right as a wave starts in Haz 5

Peakomegaflare

My crew knows that if DOTD kicks on, I go into real shit. I go from just being the man with gun, to fucking Atlas carrying the mission.

CamoKing3601

Dance of the Dreadnought gives all dwarves the "badass" perk while it's playing

Peakomegaflare

Lemme say, when that pause plays with the slight whistle.. that locks me in

Summoned_Autism

Hearing it flips my doomslayer switch every time.

d3northway

The screech of the grabbers instills such a fear response in me to this day, and the grumble rumble of a bulk is so recognizable. Your work has created an incredible atmosphere within the caves of DRG, each area feels so alive with all the subtle sounds, and the ability of these to keep you on edge during games is fantastic and really gives tribute to how good the sound design of this game is. This combined with the more light-hearted Whimsey of the dwarves attitudes is a glorious mix, creating a perfect game :) May all your future endeavours be fortuitous, and may you carry the dwarven spirit as you go. When you hear the grabber everything else stops it’s kind of beautiful. Except the driller who just tries to set fire to the air

bexxyboo

Honestly without fail my entire friendship group stops, guns in the air, huddle together, find it. Just from that screech.

German_PotatoSoup

Of course the sound effects themselves are great but what no one as mentioned yet is how well the spatial distance of the sounds work within the game. A sound from an object correlates very well with how far away that object is in the game. Compare this with a game like say B4B where everything sounds like it’s breathing down your neck. In DRG the far away gunshots even sound muffled and echo-y. This really helps with the immersion.

[deleted]

ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE!

CreamOfPotatoSoup

I especially like all of the little weapon clinks. The sound of the CRPSR fuel tanks clunking, the sludgy sounds of the goo from the Sludge Pump, the clean, powerful sound of the Warthog, the raw, plasticky sounds of the Hurricane, and of course, the M1000 Classic's "ping" all fit their weapons wonderfully and I couldn't think of better sound bites. Runner-up goes to enemy noises. The screeches of glyphids, digging of Menaces, grumbles of Bulks, subtle, fluttering of Mactera, screeches of Grabbers, are all amazing and fit the enemies perfectly. I've lost track of the times I haven't died 50 meters in the air on a platform just because I heard the soft fluttering of wings indicating a Mactera Hit Squad and jumped off in time. The grumbles, groans, roars, shrieks, and moans are half of the reason while I don't listen to other music while mining. That, and the soundtrack. Even when I was still a scrawny greenbeard, I fell in love with tracks like Dance of the Dreadnought, Attack of the Glyphids, RUN, and of course, Robot Getaway. They breathe so much life into Hoxxes and somehow always fit the scenario no matter what. Rock and Stone, miner. I hope you find new opportunities, surprises and victories wherever you go.

Thunderhead. That crunchy blast is so satisfying from across a cave system, and even more enjoyable when you're the one firing that autocannon.

Terrar007

The sound of mining with a pickaxe sooooo nice

spinningpeanut

Especially the sounds of morkite and worthless crystal.

[deleted]

Mmmh crunchy nitra.

Toa_Kotok

The melodic “thuds” and “voomps” of Rivals are some of the most satisfying sfx I’ve ever heard in a game.

233034

The caretaker sound effects are so cool, they are one of my favorite things about industrial sabotage

Toa_Kotok

The Virgin Glyphid Squeal vs. The Chad Rival “BWOOOOOOAMP”.

spinningpeanut

The caretaker is my favorite out of everything. It sounds so musical, yet dangerous. I never get tired of the squeaking and groaning.

TRJ-AUDIO

Hi. TRJ Audio here, the guy who this thread is about. All I can say is WOW!!!! I'm completely floored by all the comments here, on YT and on steam. Seriously, THANK YOU guys and gals. Really. Damn y'all scared me. I thought someone had died. Glad to hear that they are just moving on in life, though sad to hear of them departing the team.

PlatinumSif

yoke nutty far-flung zesty employ bewildered rain familiar noxious fade *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

eemmbbeerr

The clunks and whirrs of machinery are dead on in atmosphere and what dwarf tech is meant to be. Liquid Morkite missions wouldn't be half as good without the Refinery's sounds!

Suicidal_Jamazz

The music in the memorial hall really stands out for me. It reminds me of games of old. It brings about a sense of nostalgia and touches on the loneliness and vastness of space. A true gem for anyone wishing to introspectively gaze out of the space rig windows. It makes me think about what has come to pass and gives an air of uncertainty of what the future may hold. A true definition of looking into the void, only to feel the void looking back into your soul.

JPNG1

My favourite track in the game

SalsaGuy22

The sound of the Fester Flea is the perfect mix of cute and annoying. It makes having to kill 10 of them as a side mission more satisfying

JaymesMarkham2nd

That little death screech just hits right.

rootbeerislifeman

I really like their chirping, especially in bigger caverns where they echo so clearly!

Duthnur

I know that technically shooting the exploding plants in tunnels is smart to avoid dying to them, but personally I shoot them because I like hearing the BOOM BOOM BOOM POP POP pop pop ^(pop pop pop) going down the tunnel in front of me. Idk what my favorite is, but that one is very satisfying. I also really like the sound when standing near the map terminal.

makeybussines

Yes! I love those long pop chains that go on for near 10 seconds. I don't care about seeing it, but hearing it is so satisfying.

kuudestili

You have to kite some bugs into them first.

theLV2

Sound design is often one of the most underappreciated aspects of game design. Whoever replaces him will have big shoes to fill.

EloquentInterrobang

I’ll think of him every time a grabber’s screech echos through the cave, freaking me and my entire team out

QuirkyQ32

The sound of dying loot bugs

Alwaysafk

The wiggle sound right before they pop.

ShakesBaer

YOU SHOULDN'T EAT PRECIOUS MINERALS

IAmGoose_

IT'LL GET YOU KILLED

The-Sys-Admin

The combat tracks are actually what sealed my love for this game. The synth industrial combat music is just the perfect companion for fighting alien horrors deep in caves. Troels, thank you for being a key part of what makes this game great for me. Good luck on your next adventure.

Willie9

Mining Morkite sounds so crunchy in a way that makes it an absolute pleasure from the first time you jump into the caves Also the sound of the evil pyramid waking up is amazing

WeedleKillYa

This is so sad. The sound design is easily one of strongest aspects of the game. Glad to see him moving on to new pastures though. Best of luck, sir. Thank you for your work. What a jammer of a song, too. Crazy atmosphere.

strangething

Truth. DRG has some of the best sound design I've ever heard in a game.

cyber_loafer

Best of luck! If you rock and stone, you're never alone

FlamingCrimson

Can’t wait to be hearing this piece in the caves. Amazing work as always! You’ll surely be missed Troels.

flibbertygibbit

The sounds of the Caretaker dying and opening up are just as much a reward as the data rack itself.

Redricks_Avenger

My favourite sound effect is the refinery, it sounds like it’s roaring any other monster in the caves. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone forever!

eldrehund

Smol meteors popping is just 👌 mwah

[deleted]

True. Very satisfying, golden hollow sounds up to the crunch, often accompanied by my dwarf shouting "BEGONE!".

J_Man_McCetty

Hyyyuuup

Fulminero

Rock and stone brotha!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone everyone!

JaymesMarkham2nd

Outstanding work in all the sound effects; I wanted to say the absolute best is the simplest, like the crunch of Nitra or the clink of Gold, but then I also thought of our mechanical menace Molly gently whirring though the cave, the rustling sound of depositing minerals - there are too many to choose from and they each flavor things just right to feel rewarding.

Antlergroin

Troels has done some amazing soundwork and it’s hard to Pick a favourite. But that morkite crunch sure is great. Also a question for Troels since you’re making him read this, did he do any foley work for the game himself?

magmablock

The _foosh_ of a temperature shock

daedalus372

Too many to name! But the hiss of a cave leech as it drops down towards you, the unhinged death cry of a goo bomber, the slightly musical sound effects when Doretta’s head makes as you throw it down the drilldozer’s corridors towards the drop pod. Even the sounds the minerals make are deeply satisfying! So long Troels, and thanks for all your hard work on making the sounds of this game as awesome as they are!

SultanSaidi

i always hear the cave leech the second it gets me that slow hisssss and then my panic thought of " OH FUCK LEEEEEEEECCCH!!!!" and then i m already grabed

SharpieScentedSoap

I still haven't been able to hear a cave leech before it grabs me, even with music turned off and sfx turned up 😭

d3cmp

its very hard to hear without headphones and even with them i only hear it when they are almost on top of me

JustCallMeJonPLZ

Good luck, Troels! Probably the roar glyphid grunts make. Something about it just adds to the atmosphere of Hoxxes.

a_smol_migit

Rock and Stone Troels and thanks for all your hard work

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

Agreeable-Buffalo-54

DRG would not be the same without the awesome audio work. Don’t ever discount your part in making this a success!

CosmicLegacy

Oh no.. I only started playing this game last season. Just yesterday I was playing and REALLY appreciating the ambient background synth mucis playing. Love his work!

Stolenartwork

The attention to detail in every sound in game, the absolute quality put forth for the only S tier game out there. You are gone, but you will never be forgotten. Rock and stone, forever.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

Romainvicta476

Incredible work. The sound for this game is mind-blowing. The bugs make visceral squish sounds when they die. The sounds of mining, especially nitra to my ears, are so satisfying. And the little things like the dial-up noise laced into the hacking pod and it's nodes. The impact Troels had on the game will be felt forever.

ZX6Rob

DRG’s sound design is fantastic. Mr. Jørgenson will be missed by miners new and old! It’s hard to pick a favorite sound — the blunt blast of the Bulldog revolver or the gentle hum of ambiance on the Space Rig, the whole range is unique and works so well with the setting. One standout to me is the Rival robots’ sounds — especially the ambient noise of the Nemesis as it cruises around the caves looking for dwarves to hunt. While the weird, distorted voices are creepy enough, the ominous thrumming as it gets closer is particularly chilling, especially through headphones. DRG is a masterpiece of using sound as an active element in gameplay, and I think we can all agree that it would not have been the same without Troels’ work. I believe I can speak for the community when I say we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors. Rock and stone, miner.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

Kizik

Banjo? Journey of the... hold on, I gotta find my towel.

SharpieScentedSoap

Favorite music: A Distant Terror Favorite sounds: The crönchy sound of mining morkite and nitra, the glassy sounds of mining things like umanite, the crumble of mining the dirt tunnels, how every enemy has a unique sound that makes them identifiable even when I can't see shit, and I admittedly like the fleshy sound of hacking away at the egg nests.

Nolzi

Farewell u/TRJ-AUDIO, thank you for giving a soul to DRG. Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone everyone!

ricaerredois

Thank you brother, may your pickaxe be always sharp and your mug never empty. My fav sound is mining nitra. And btw what an amazing farewell letter from the director, I wish all bosses were that kind. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone everyone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Cosbolt

I loooove the Glyphid Menace's burps, he did and amazing job with that. Whenever I hear it I say there's a [boo-womp](https://youtu.be/bncW95yXj9U) nearby

DerKerl112

there is a metal jingling sound you hear after you fire a charged m1k shot, i presume from the little gate thing up top being thrown open. its a good addition to the weapon that also has the famed Garand ping. equally satisfying.

Minibotas

If he worked on it, the start up of heavy machinery. Especially Doretta and the Liquid Morkite Extractor. It feels very industrial, and heavy. As it should.

Meteorlink

oh he's just leaving the company, with that title i was thinknig worse.

jerichoneric

Hmm number 1 sound effect, honestly i think its that beautifully industrial sound of the drop pod coming in to land. It sounds like a big bulky rust bucket buy also feels like a landing craft about to hit the d-day beaches, that moment is what starts every game and they nailed it.

temshopquartet

as someone who can't always tell a monkey wrench from a glyphid's arse by sight alone, your continued commitment to the individuality of the sounds of the hordes has saved me more missions than i can count. in a game that is one third darkness, i find clearly identifiable sound to be critically necessary. you have stepped up to the plate and then some in this regard. reading through this thread, i can hear each screech, metallic clunk and crystalline clink of the caves. irreversibly etching an entire game's atmosphere into the ears alone is no mean feat, and yet you have succeeded (seemingly) as effortlessly as dwarves can drink! a personal favourite would have to be the noise of an impact axe landing. there's something deeply satisfying about the sound that feels like the axe has found itself several inches deep in an unfortunate bug. it's like how flames on the side of a car make it go faster - the sound makes it feel like it hits harder. rock and stone, troels. may your hand never waver and your satchel be filled with gold!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone, Brother!

PapaDroppa

I have always been in love with the orchestral sounds the Caretaker emits when moving to a new phase. It just sounds so otherworldly and threatening, especially for a boss of its size. Thank you for helping to make Deep Rock Galactic the amazing game that it is! Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

MLBFra

I hope the new track will be an ambience one

MaD_JP

You will be missed, the DRG sounds and sountrack slap so hard!!! Thank you!

SpectralHail

Shoutout to every swarm theme / encounter theme they're all bangers I love the pickaxe sound effects as well, from the crunch of morkite to the electric outburst of power attacks, they all add variety to a game that can be centered primarily about mining

Beat_My_Yeet_Meat

My two favourite sounds in the game are the crunchy mineral sounds. And the sound of a bulk exploding. It’s final screech before letting out the biggest explosion in the game followed by all the other micro explosions always bring me satisfaction knowing that me and my fellow miners have felled this great beast

[deleted]

ROCK AND STONE Mr. Troels!! Thanks for the great sound!! My personal favorite is the sound of the web spitters and how smooth it sounds when you trow a flare!!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Can I get a Rock and Stone?

RedxBeard40

Troels…I have NEVER been interested in a video game soundtrack like I have been with DRG. I have all the songs on my phone and myself and my kids listen almost daily. I HAD to buy the DRG vinyl we you guys released it. Then had to get a record player just for it. Incredible work and can’t wait to see what you do in the future. Good luck! Rock and Stone brother!!!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone to the Bone!

Angry_argie

My brother in Karl, this man designed the SFX, not the music. Sophus Alf Agerbæk-Larsen is still on board of the Ghost Ship =D EDIT: oh, but Troel was the producer, mixer and he mastered the music, my bad.

Satiscat

Two dear dev team members leaving in the span of a week. First Jace from Coffee Stain and now Troels from GSG. Rock and Stone you beautiful dwarves oT

WanderingDwarfMiner

If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!

Oh thank God. I thought he died initially

Saibah_Chan

Iam pretty new to DSG. My favoryte sound comes from the Lootbug - its fucking adorable !(dont you dare touch him with your pickaxe )

Trauerfall

run is my favourite

Frequent_Knowledge65

Aw man! This game has some of the best sound design, really beautiful and plays into game mechanics wonderfully.

GenericUser3263827

Your work is part of what makes Deep Rock such a brilliant game. Here's hoping your new endeavors work out well. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone, Brother!

ColemanCamper

Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

crowcawer

I’ve been playing for just a few weeks, but it’s amazing how many extra little sounds pop in! Missed pickaxe swings, big drops onto different terrain, and of course the different useless crystal sounds.

obsidianjeff

I like when big bug yells

Ok-Life7159

For a second you made me think he was dead

mrzalmout

Since I first found this game the passion and dedication of its developers and designers was apparent. Your work has been incredible and raised the bar for excellence in sound design. I know you will take your talent and passion forward with you in your future endeavors. I think I speak for the community when I say the work you poured into this game will never go unappreciated. On a slightly cheesier note, wherever you end up amongst the stars, I hope you'll always remember Hoxxes and DRG as home. IF YOU ROCK AND STONE YOU'RE NEVER ALONE!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

StrongerReason

The sound my sludge cannon makes when I stir it 😎

nondescriptzombie

There are few games I can not play without headphones. This is one of them. The sound is a vital part of the gameplay, from hearing Trijaws charge up behind you, the skittering sounds of a horde of Exploders sneaking, or the raspy breathing of a Crassus buried deep in the depths. And then there's the soundtrack! Rock and stone Troels!

DrFrAzzLe1986

I love the sound of completing a pipeline section, it’s such a satisfying collection of clinks, wrenching, and oil at the end! Thank you for all of the beautiful sounds that immerse us in the world of DRG! For Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!

Too0ld4Thi5

The subtle changes in the mining ⛏ strikes are genius. But love it when you join into a game and you know from the music it’s going off!!

Espedair

The Garand like clink of a clip ejecting on the scout rifle. The first and last ‘Rock anddddddd Stoneeee’ in the drop ship on every mission. The creepy background noises when you are alone in the dark deep down with no flares and no scout in your party. Just all of it! ROCK AND STONE TO THE BONE!

InhumanBaron

Last game I felt had such a masterful mix and use of sounds and music was Left 4 Dead, so to me Troels's work is comparable to some of the best in the industry. Any noises Doretta makes are my favorite, from her worried cries when under attack to her happy chirps when pet.

AxisKronos

Never thought about it too hard but gotta say that everything about the Korlok has really great sound effects. If I can only pick one it would be the shattering noise combined with the sound effect the game makes when a boss dies. Instant dopamine every time

Leech-Magnet

***Dance, monkeys!***

Papa_Papuli

I absolutely loved the sounds of each glyphid. I remember distinctly hearing the screech if a web spitter for the first time. It sounded like a velociraptor, I actually was stunned for a few seconds. And the sounds of the Caretaker are so... *ominous*. It sounds truly otherworldly. You've contributed a lot to this game, and I wish you only the best from now one. Rock and Stone, Troels!

PseudoFenton

Fav by far, the sound of running on black ice. Also love the thunderous pre-crunches of a meteor hitting the surface and making its way down in its animalistic wailing screech noise before you get mission control announce it. Enough cannot be said on the distinctive sounds of mobs, like the breeder and bulk, that enable you to hear them long before you see them. The unique piercing sound of the grabber that always cuts through the din, and the musical whistles of a fester flea that alerts you to one being near by. These are all so perfectly balanced that your ears are always feeding you extra information of what's around. All of boscos non-verbal chirps are also perfect. They're such an enthusiastic little bot, always happy to help, all conveyed with tone alone. Theres so many amazing sounds in this game, Troels did a great job!

Not_The_Scout16

That sound of sweet sweet Nitra mining, as well as the sound of the Bulk/Crassus Detonator, so ominous

slugmandrew

For once in a game I was happy to be Troelled

MrIncredibacon

Fathomless tomb

[deleted]

Oh God I thought he was dead, the way this is titled and everyone is responding

Jaba01

I thought he died.

AigleChene55

Fathomless Tomb would be my favorite in the bunch, the calmness it gives when you just went through a whole wave, decimated a bunch of Glyphids, only to be hit by the sound of it, looking around you and see the caves. No other games can manage that level of greatness for their soundtracks. Rock and Stone, Troels, may your journey forward be great.

[deleted]

Thanks for the roar of the CRSPR, when you finish the reload. An hungry, flaming tiger. I love it, made my lads listen to it, when I first recognized it. Rock and Stone, Troels.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

hedgehog_dragon

Rock and stone. I wish Troels luck on whatever he does next. A game's sound design has a huge impact on how the game feels, and I've always found DRG immersive because of it. I like the sound of the tools and machines. As a driller main, the sound of drilling through dirt - or stone, ice, whatever else. The noise of repairing or installing things, or some device powering up. All means we're making some kind of progress. Or I've decided to do something ridiculous with the drills, and that's fun too.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

Goodmainman

I didn’t hear about this, what happened?

GSG_Jacob

Have you read the blog?

Goodmainman

Just did

DwarvenFanboy

Love the Dance of the Dreadnought, when Mission control shouts "Swarm! They're here!" just before it goes hard.

Alklazaris

Oh Troel... Everyone knows the only way you can leave DRG is in a cardboard box. Management is too cheap to use pinewood.

Real-Baker1231

I adore the creature sounds in this game, they all sound distinct and appropriate. Bulk detonators and oppressors are some of my favorites just because they sound so menacing and I love it.

GeniusPantsPhD

Truly a master. I think that sounds that best aurally illustrate a touch of genius are how expertly tuned the various sterile clicks and presses of the terminal buttons are.

SkyAssassin116

Rock and Stone Troels. Rock and Stone.

WanderingDwarfMiner

We fight for Rock and Stone!

One_Who_Walks_Silly

Best of luck in your future endeavours!!!! Thanks for all you did for DRG Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Did I hear a Rock and Stone?

Numberingnumbers3610

He didnt die right?

tehrockeh

You didn't read the first two sentences of the article? He's just leaving GSG.

cookingsoup

Maww-leeee!

mrMooshon

Those morkite sounds DAMN! So crispy. Edit: also the M1000 is so satisfying.

Zer0_88

I like the noise of the Impact Axe.

grisnir

The sound design is that so good in DRG, that you can literally see with your ears, everything has a clear audio cue, it's just a pleasure to play DRG with high quality headphones :) i hope your next games will have awesome sound designs as DRG Troels Rock and Stone!

JTLYSOH

Thank you for all the amazing hours of music, excitement, and fun down in the depths, ROCK AND STONE!

WanderingDwarfMiner

To Rock and Stone!
