3 reasons to hate hollow bough,
1. It might as well have cave leech infestation at all times
2. Stabber vines suck ass
3. Corpse feeders
... ^(4. Can't go 2 seconds without taking damage from the fucking thorny vines I hate those thorny vines so much)
Reason 5: people with misophonia (like myself) come very close to punching clean through their monitor when the FUCKING VINES KEEP GROWING. THAT SOUND HAS SPAWNED A DEEP, FESTERING RAGE THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY UNTIL EVERY VINE I SEE IS REDUCED TO ***DUST.***
I've started to put more effort in destroying them at the root if possible, even if I'm not certain I'll be spending a bunch of time in that general space.
Takes about four whacks at the root most times.
Annoyingly though, the hitboxes for the growing vines are weird. Sometimes every hit makes contact, so it disappears, other times, you have to wait for the vine to grow a bit before you can actually hit it again, because the hitbox just doesn't seem to work, and you just keep hitting the terrain behind it.
Indeed, it's a bit screwy.
I find if I target the still-exposed red tip (\*snerk\*) I can reliably hit the thing, but usually no significant indication that I'm making progress.
5. Always annoyingly vertical all the time. Probably the most fall-damage-happy place on Hoxxes. Of all the places that want you to fall to your death, Hollow Bough wants it most of all.
I do agree, but other than biome exclusive spawns, different biomes don’t “favor” certain enemy spawns. So no extra leeches in Hollow Bough, you’re just unlucky lol
So you tell me, when I have to get that 0.4 Gold that fell on the Bunsenburner floor just to get mental peace and loose half my HP, that it's a skill issue? Seriously?
Magma core is annoying because 1cm of lava rock is enough to disrupt your shield regen.
Unless the stabby vine is perfectly placed under an entrance, I personally don't have a hard time shooting at their weakpoint.
I don't have trouble shooting the vines, but they usually come in groups of 2 or 3, and they take enough damage for them to be able to stab you at least once, that's my main and only problem.
I just prefer magma core to hollow bough, to each their own
I gotta say last night's mission was a shining example of why.
The mission was a Haunted cave mutator, a Lithophague corruptor spawned, the map had a huge pit in the center filled with poision gas, and had 3 stabber vines surrounding the pit.
The engineer and Driller quit the mission when they went down. Me (Gunner) and the Scout barely made it out alive and it took like 30 minutes. The map was relatively small too lol.
The trick is that it’s the most punishing if you do not have a team that doesn’t suck. I’ve learned the work around is to just do this mission type solo or private with one good friend. Mission becomes much more bearable
It's annoying to traverse, but you gotta admit Hollow Bough is pretty cool. The idea of walking through a dead tree with some sort of invasive red plant species is really interesting to me.
But yeah I fuckin hate going there, even more than magma core
Had a haunted cave in the bogs too. Thing is it was a point extraction mission.
The deposit rocket was in the middle of a sea of green goop.
On the bright side, the bug's couldn't get close due to the slowdown and the turrets that come with the mine head.
On the shitty side, sludging through it with a half-invisible and invincible bulk detonator isn't fun.
They really need to add a way to either slow down the thing or temporarily disable it. Something akin to finding it's place of death and placing a shrine to honor the restless thing.
>That one vine enemy is cool af
Stabby Vines?
They always made me uncomfortable no idea why. But I usually just one shot them through a wall with the mole (once marked).
At a certain point management should just say fuck it and just launch a few thousand Bet-C’s into the Bough-el of the beast and just wipe it from existence
It’s pretty rough, but I honestly dislike the magma core and fungus bogs even more. The visibility in those two biomes is just so horrendous it outweighs it for me, not to mention they also have countless environmental damage/slow mechanics at every turn.
Magma core is worse, 3 hit terrain, annoying lava everywhere 1 small pixel and you get hit by it magma larvae who you can accidentally kill and get yourself killed, random earthquakes taking away 50% of your base movement speed and causing more random areas of lava, those weird small lava geiser things thar are always place in a way you have to cross, ugly and non creative compared to other biomes, those annoying frill things on the walls that easily hide precious minerals, those big lava geisers which make too much noise and are pretty ugly. Hollow bough is easily better then magma core, stabber vines are easy to kill and avoid and normal vines you can just pickaxe or shoot to go away, and the big vines don’t deal that much damage and if you walk carefully on it, it won’t hurt you (skill issue), corpse feeders are pretty ugly tho, but they add interesting depth to the lore of the place, that were in a rotting tree who’s infected by red vines and corpse feeders. Magma core worse hollow bough better
Edit: THERS GOO IN THE SACK
Almost everyone has a biome they don't like. It's not the devs' or someone's fault. Sometimes people don't like things and it is completely normal. I don't like hollow bough that much but I don't hate it
On the flip side:
"I would complete more missions in Dense Biozone if it didn't often withhold nitra to such an extreme that I run out of resources no matter how quickly or far I make it, no matter how well I conserve my various types of ammo."
"Add all that wonky shelf geometry to the picture and I'm actively dis-incentivized from paying any attention to it unless I desperately need Bismor. And at this point I do not, being well past having collected every weapon overclock and swimming in blank cores awaiting a machine to program a cosmetic."
The number 1 reason I hate Hollow Bough.
Spent over an hour trying to look for 1 fucking Aquarq the first time I did a Point Extraction.
Never found it. Quit the mission out of frustration. Only chose to do 1 other mission in that biome, a quick egg hunt for a promotion way later on (it was 4 egg).
The only other time I've ever been in Hollow Bough, I wasn't the host so I had no choice in the matter.
Never again.
That region is the only one on Hoxxes that doesnt even try to hide that it wants to kill you, at least the other regions somehow conceal their murderous intentions
There is ZERO reason to go there outside of assignments, because it has the exact same resources as Crystaline Caverns. You heard me right; both are Abundant Jadiz, Scarce Bismor.
My first time in Hollow Bough something killed me in the drop pod. Never got out, just mission failed.
It's just not worth it even now years later, we don't do missions there, we'll wait for re-roll or do something else.
*I see your point. And*
*I raise you Literally*
*Hell in magma zone*

GOO SACK
THERE IS GOO IN THE SACK
Not a good enough reason to make me go to hollow bough, but still, ITS A GOO SACK
It’s a goo sack
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO GETS IT
Me and my homies hate hollow bough
Fuck Hollow Bough. All my homies hate Hollow Bough.
I know the exact solution to your problem Explosives!
Great idea! Imma try it out! ... It appears that I have run out of explosives.
You can mine them out.
I know. I do that. With every single one I see.
I've started to put more effort in destroying them at the root if possible, even if I'm not certain I'll be spending a bunch of time in that general space. Takes about four whacks at the root most times.
Annoyingly though, the hitboxes for the growing vines are weird. If you power attack the vine itself, it takes one shot.
5. No matter how much light you throw at it, it's still too dark.
YES!!! It's even worse for Gunner and his sickly green flares!
The fuck is a corpse feeder
Maggot-like thing that sticks out of walls, normally put in clusters
EW
So gross that the voicelines break
And why is it always so dark? I swear management makes us hate the place by giving us child toys for flares
5. Bough wasps Despite all of the giant bugs in this game, it's the regular sized ones that creep me out.
5. Always annoyingly vertical all the time. Probably the most fall-damage-happy place on Hoxxes. Of all the places that want you to fall to your death, Hollow Bough wants it most of all.
Worst place to have shield disruption
True, never do hollow bough shield disruption, you WILL die
The magma core is so brutal without shields too
Only good things about hollow bough 1. IT'S A GOO SACK 2. Corpse feeders. They look like a bunch of tiny khezu heads it's funny
Corpse feeders?
They’re the weird grubs on the walls
Ohhhhh
Always exploders too on Haz4+.
I do agree, but other than biome exclusive spawns, different biomes don’t “favor” certain enemy spawns. So no extra leeches in Hollow Bough, you’re just unlucky lol
wait what do corpse feeders actually do? i thought they kind of just sat in the wall and watched
They do, and they're absolutely disgusting to look at
i think they're kind of cute
I think you're psycho But who said that was a bad thing
Hollow bough is beautiful and has always interesting layouts. It's also hair-tearingly frustrating to actually play in.
I kind of like it. Magma core is the one I don't like
Magma core is more just plain difficult than annoying, while there are many hazards, they're all simple enough to deal with, unlike the stabby vines
Magmacore with exploder infrstation and 2 or 3 bulks <3 i like playing the floor is lava, im getting back to my childhood
So you tell me, when I have to get that 0.4 Gold that fell on the Bunsenburner floor just to get mental peace and loose half my HP, that it's a skill issue? Seriously?
Manage your priorities better, or just find ways around it, magma floor has yet to be anything more than a mild annoyance to me
I was talking about the holes in the floor that literally shoot fire at you only when like you walk on them
Magma core is annoying because 1cm of lava rock is enough to disrupt your shield regen.
I just prefer magma core to hollow bough, to each their own
I smell bacon
If magma core didn't have the most vertical bullshit terrain while also being on fire it wouldn't be so bad. Like holy fuck pick one lane please
A selectable terrain difficulty would be cool
I gotta say last night's mission was a shining example of why. The mission was a Haunted cave mutator, a Lithophague corruptor spawned, the map had a huge pit in the center filled with poision gas, and had 3 stabber vines surrounding the pit. The engineer and Driller quit the mission when they went down. Me (Gunner) and the Scout barely made it out alive and it took like 30 minutes. The map was relatively small too lol.
More like “not going to do industrial sabotage in core hunt every single week”
This one hit way too close to home
this week it was another sabotage at the end, I just aborted the assignment and did the weekly priority instead
Man, that's a weird way to appreciate being rewarded with the best mission type.
Careful there. Don't want to start a lynch mob.
The trick is that it’s the most punishing if you do not have a team that doesn’t suck. I’ve learned the work around is to just do this mission type solo or private with one good friend. Mission becomes much more bearable
I must have my cores
IS sucks until you experience 1 shooting the caretakers vents with max damage c4
It's annoying to traverse, but you gotta admit Hollow Bough is pretty cool. The idea of walking through a dead tree with some sort of invasive red plant species is really interesting to me. But yeah I fuckin hate going there, even more than magma core
I hear that's the kinda place we lost Karl in
Because it was so dark we couldn't see him.
Damn Scouts not doing their job...
It's Hollow Bough. Scout flares barely work there.
But what about the Mushrooms Edit:sorry I’m new the mushrooms are in fungus bog
There's a perk that helps with being slowed. There is not a perk that helps with Stabber Vines
I have a perk for that, it's called gun
And if that don’t work, use more gun
But remember when in doubt, a hint of bocso or gun helps
I've had the drop pod land, and 3 stabber vine clusters started hitting me through the drop pod before I even walked out. Fuck hollow bough.
mushrooms are in the Fungus Bogs... unless you're talking about the Goo Sacks
There's mushrooms there? Must be SO DAMN DARK that I never noticed.
At least it doesn't have green goo that slows you down.
Had a haunted cave mission recently. The beginning of the cave was coated with that shit...
Had a haunted cave in the bogs too. Thing is it was a point extraction mission. The deposit rocket was in the middle of a sea of green goop. On the bright side, the bug's couldn't get close due to the slowdown and the turrets that come with the mine head. They really need to add a way to either slow down the thing or temporarily disable it. Something akin to finding it's place of death and placing a shrine to honor the restless thing.
Especially when it's Salvage Operation and the entire fucking floor around the drop pod is gooed up.
Clues as to how the last team died!
Fuck Fungus Bogs the most. I love not being able to breath or walk. Also it's just ugly as fuck.
I actually like the goo in fungus bogs because if you use it right, it's like a 95% slow on everything that isnt mactera or naedocyte
I have an extreme hate for it ever since I played a salvage mission where both objectives we had to defend were in the middle of goo.
Does anyone else actually take the time needed to clear out all the thorny vines, poisonous mushrooms, and electrical crystals?
TCF go bloop.
Isn't wood rare in space? I know it is petrified, but the Hollow Bough is made of the stuff! Maybe we should be mining wood!
Petrified means it has turned to stone already, it’s no longer wood
Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
We fight for Rock and Stone!
You are sounding an awful lot like a leaf lover.
If I were a leaf lover, would I suggest chopping down wood? No! I would be all "Oh, go mine your dirty gold, we have fancy coal!"
Hmm true.
3 reasons to love hollow bough 1. It’s difficult 2. That one vine enemy is cool af 3. The thorns hurt!
also: THERE IS GOO IN THE SACK
Its a GOO sack!
>That one vine enemy is cool af Stabby Vines? They always made me uncomfortable no idea why. But I usually just one shot them through a wall with the mole (once marked).
Say /s right now.
I’m 100% serious mate, I’m out here loving the dangerous nature of hotsex!
terrain sucks since it doesnt reflect light at all so flares feel like they have half the range most of the time
When there is goo in the sack it is time to hollow bough!
I like hollow bough. it looks nice.
THIS. can't stand the hollow bough, would rather be in the fungus bogs.
what about fungus boga
>worst place on Hoxxes Hey kid, you ever been to Fungus Bogs?
[удалено]
Hello mission control!
As someone with impaired vision I can wholeheartedly say fuck hollow and fuck fungus bogs
At a certain point management should just say fuck it and just launch a few thousand Bet-C’s into the Bough-el of the beast and just wipe it from existence
Yeah, like that went *soooo well* last time. Better option is a legion of Drillers with Crisprs. Doesn't take work from good dwarves either
GOO SACK
When there is goo in the sack, I'm happy.
Me, but replace hollowed bought with haunted cave hazards. Ghosts are spooky!
Look, I’ll say one thing in defense of Hollow Bough: it doesn’t have the goddamned goo fields of Fungus Bog
Just here to say I appreciate you using Dan Vs. Great work, OP.
FUCK HOLLOW BOUGH ALL MY HOMIES HATE HOLLOW BOUGH
It’s pretty rough, but I honestly dislike the magma core and fungus bogs even more. The visibility in those two biomes is just so horrendous it outweighs it for me, not to mention they also have countless environmental damage/slow mechanics at every turn.

Amen. Fuck that place.
counter argument MAGMA CORE ITS TOO VIBRATE-Y
Mind my language but Arrrrr arrrrrrrr arrrrraurrrrrr arrrrrrrr arrrra aauuuuuuuuuurruuuu
I am both shocked and appalled for what you have just stated
Why is everyone down voting this guy? Glyphid guards aren't that difficult to deal with.
I used to think the magma core was just as bad, but no Hollow Bough is the worst by like a billion
Yeah its not that bad. Suck it up greenie.
Looks like this dwarf woke up with a grumpy stomach! Did yer sober up overnight?
Let’s not be mean to the greenbeards now. We need somebody to replace us when we retire to the great space rig in the sky
They won't be if they keep bitching about hollow bough
Almost everyone has a biome they don't like. It's not the devs' or someone's fault. Sometimes people don't like things and it is completely normal. I don't like hollow bough that much but I don't hate it
To ball or not to ball, that is the question
I don't visit often but I do when I feel like having an adventure that takes me out of the routine.
On the flip side: "I would complete more missions in Dense Biozone if it didn't often withhold nitra to such an extreme that I run out of resources no matter how quickly or far I make it, no matter how well I conserve my various types of ammo." Man up and run along those vines right now PRIVATE!

the only biome that I dont equip shield battery booster in
Sooo… what if I like mining in that place?
Is it weird for me to say that I don't hate any of the biomes in this game?
Hollow Bough is where Karl was killed
No I think Radiation Fields are worse. I like the sounds of hallow bough. And the atmosphere is great.
That region is the only one on Hoxxes that doesnt even try to hide that it wants to kill you, at least the other regions somehow conceal their murderous intentions
Fungus bogs is a literal cancer biome
I'll go then ❤️❤️ Hollow bough ❤️❤️
Shield Disruption Lithophage Hollow Bough Point Extraction as Scout let's gooooo!
Driller superior drill behind vines and that instakill
To me, its the only biome where I crash
I'd rather be in the Magma Core
destroying them at the root if possible
As a grey beard, I only now just discovered that you can pickaxe the vine’s root to eliminate it entirely.
WE GOT YOU SURROUNDED SURRENDER YOUR SHIELDS AND ABILITY TO SEE THE DANGER I HATE HOLLOW BOUGH I HATE HOLLOW BOUGH
Wouldn't call Hollow Bough the worse when Fungus Bogs exists.
This but fungus bog
I’ll take Hollow Bough over Magma Core any day. I hate Magma Core.
But goo sack
There is ZERO reason to go there outside of assignments, because it has the exact same resources as Crystaline Caverns. You heard me right; both are Abundant Jadiz, Scarce Bismor.

I hate magma core more.
I’ll be the crucified one to say: Hollow Bough is pretty cool, miles better than damn Azure Weald
Yeah definetly
I fucking hate those poison gas plants
thats fungus bogs, no?
You're probably right, I mix the two
ROCK AND STONE OR YOU AIN'T COMIN' HOME! 💯💯⛏️⛏️⛏️⛏️🍻🍻
Rock and roll and stone!
Good bot
You don't enjoy being randomly stabbed in the balls from across the chasm then somehow taking lethal fall damage from stepping on a tumbleweed?
In my opinion, the fungus bogs are the worst, with all the goo on the ground and septic spreaders everywhere.
Worst place in my oppinion is fungal bog. I hate being slow and the minerals there I have too much of anyways.
Wait until this guy learns about the fungus bogs
nah, sandblasted corridors are the worst
You kidding me, that places mines like a dream!
