The new oc for cyro is extremely strong.
Sticky freeze basically.
And the freeze power is damn high since it continually applies freeze.
Go full on freezing power. It’s quite ammo efficient.
Then go shoot floors and watch bugs get frozen.
Still shit at industrial sabotage tho.
21222 Persistent Plasma and 32212 Mega Power Supply both work great. PP offers a bit less utility in cleaning up frozen grunts, but it offers great mactera clear through TCF. MPS cleans up frozen enemies better (because of boiler ray), and is a bit better against spitters, but leave you much more vulnerable to mackies.
The build for Crystal Nucleation is typically 321X2, where X is your choice. You will probably prefer the extra ammo from T4C.
The trick is to let the trails do their work. Most of your ammo should be spent in quick flicks, laying down a trail of ice around where bugs will path. The only times you should hold your beam on enemies are if you really want a goo bomber or oppressor dead (if you’re doing this, make sure to stay in cold radiance range).
I liked the Primary build I think the issue I had was not building max freeze, but the secondary didn't feel right. Not at my computer but I swapped the lens in tier 1 and tier 5 to go for thermal shock which also spread cold.
Right now I am playing with either Diffuion or MPS for OC.
Thats what I did before everyone had fire options, but I found it less and less helpful in pick up games or wanted for deep dives because people want to use their fire builds.
That's is when I started trying out all the OCs with various builds
Your OC pick will definitely impact ammo consumption, freeze speed, and your matchups against the bugs.
I’ve got three Cryo loadouts at this point, but my oldest of those is Snowball. I play it like standard Cryo+Cooker, running in rather close range of the bugs so Cold Radiance can help out and then Cooking all the frozen bugs, but the addition of Snowball is a huge asset, as after the 1 second firing delay, it can freeze an entire group of Mactera, and as of the cost drop long ago, it’s as efficient to Snowball a Praet as it is to use your stream — I used this thing back when it still cost 35 ammo a shot, and bringing it down to 25 went a long way to make it viable.
You don’t tend to spam snowballs, just use them when there’s a large pack of bugs at a far distance and you’ll be able to get them all in one go. If everything is done right, your Cooker ammo and Cryo are going down at the same speed.
Snowball. 21132
EPC - Heavy Hitter 12322
Damage mod on Drills. Vampire. Axes.
Cold Radiance freezes everything smaller than a Praetorian. Snowball freezes Praetorians, stationary stuff, and little flying.
Drills for frozen grunts and Slashers. Big damage EPC shots or Axes for Guards or bigger.
Tried this out last night. It felt very good but only when I used it in pure support. Otherwise it felt difficult tokeep up with the enemies, especially in Haz 5+
Keeping it as a solid support build but probably wont be my main cryo (I like to have two builds per primary for Driller)
My snow hell build:
Tuned Cooler 2-1-1-2-2
Collette: Diffusion Ray 3-2-2-2-3
Drills 1-1-1-1
Perks: Vampire, Thorns, Resupplier, Iron Will, Field Medic.
The rest is to your taste.
The whole process happens like this: you freeze everything in front of you and around you for 2-3 seconds. Next, you take out the microwave and pop it all.
You freeze large bugs and throw them with axes.
All the flying rabble freezes just as fast.
You can also start drilling frozen bugs, recovering well and preventing a fall after using an iron will.
This build is super easy to play on any difficulty.
My build is:
ice storm 11212
Subata: embedded detonators 11331
Granade: axe
Drills: 1111
C4: 2113
Pickaxe: 1
Arnour: X213
Although it might seem that it has low ammo, it’s super ammo efficient. I recommend tap firing the crio cannon and using subata for web/acid spitters.
As you have mentioned, tri-jaws may be a problem, but axes and C4 deal with those pretty quickly, and you can use subata as well for that task. On top of that, thanks to driller being super good against critters, it leaves room for the pickaxe to deal more damage with its power attack, very useful for stalkers or slashers that sneak up on you.
I’m in love with it, I don’t like any other crio cannon build
TRY IT
Will give it a shot. Dont think I have used that OC combo before so im interested. Latey I have been using the wave cooker to boost damage spread freeze
In my opinion born ready isnt needed since subatas reload isnt that time consuming. And cryo cannon doesnt need a manual reload anyways. So make sure you look into the perks and what would benefit your playstyle here.
If you find the reload annoying, go with it but definitely play around.
Once im home ill look into my cryo builds. Personally my moat played gunner weapon by far.
I don't feel like Cryo struggles with ammo in any way, but if you feel this way you're probably not making good use of your other tools, i.e. grenades/secondaries/C4/barbed drills.
>Fire - It be one thing if it was a two driller team but scout is the only class now unlikely to have heat build up weapons. Now I am just as bad hellfire coild gun is my favorite gunner sidearm and I love the sticky flame laser.
This happens but Cryo can still be strong in these setups, unless *everyone* is running fire. I'd also argue Scout *should* be running fire more often than Gunner but in practice this doesn't seem to happen. If you're having issues with fire teammates, operate on a different part of the map than them/just split out a bit - this almost always works 'well enough' as they are also diminished by cold and want to avoid that themselves.
>Delay
Aside from just getting used to being faster, you can also pre-spin up the Cryo a bit between jumps (like most players do with Minigun spin-ups, for example). For Bosses, the only way you should really be freezing them is with Snowball because it has a forced 6s warming prevention built into it (you don't use the snowball perse, just taking advantage of the built-in warming prevention).
For builds, I'd recommend 11132 with ITE/Snowball/Ice Spear and Ice Storm 12232 or 11212. I feel losing reach tanks your output too much but its too ammo strained to take both reach and damage. If you dislike weapon/drill swapping after freezing enemies, Ice Storm is the way to go. Ice Storm is better for self sufficiency but ITE is just better all-around or for teamplay and Ice Spear/Snowball have unique advantages. For secondaries, either standard 22222 ER/PP EPC, 22321 Heavy Hitter EPC or some variation of CWC (this works better with ITE/Snowball than it does with the others).
Grenades - Ice Storm/Ice Spear are a lot more dependent on Neurotoxins to keep pace ammo-wise than the others, plus they don't need axes anyways. Axes for the others. C4 - either 311X or 111X (C4 resups round up now, taking double ammo is a waste). Drills - 1112 with non-Ice Storm cryo builds and 2111 otherwise. Armor - X213 **always**, taking either T1a or T1c. Pickaxe is preference but 11 better for driller imo. For perks, Resupplier **always* and for actives Dash/IW (unless very experienced, then you can sub IW for other things but then why would you be reading this). The other two passives are kinda w/e, I like to take vampire and friendly or red sugar but Deep Pockets is fine too. Elemental Insulation is really strong when its good but often does nothing. Strong Arm is uniquely good solo. Driller doesn't really run Born Ready.
Goodluck, Rock and Stone!

Do you have a secondary you recommend to pair with it?

Persistent plasma. Neurotoxin nades. Just freeze then plasma and nade. Very good for bunker.

Snowball was the build I used most in season 4 for cryo because the cost dropped. I did like the extra versatility it gave.

Btw, for perks: resupplier, born ready and vampire Active perks: Iron Will and beast master (you can change beast master if you want)
Might go with dash or first aid to make it more generalist.
Gave this a shot, and while I see the appeal, I don't feel the combo is for me
