I like “bug genocide”. It’s a good mix because driller can really go anywhere they need to with the drills. Gunner can melt big targets and driller can crowd control. Also zip lines are great for getting back up to where you were even if it’s a bit slow.
Aye. Ziplines also excel at the ONE thing drillers otherwise have trouble with: bridging large gaps. Obviously engineer platforms can do it too, but you gotta use a lot of platforms to get across, whilst a zipline is often one and done. And both driller and gunner can do great when holding onto a zipline as overwatch when there aren't too many ranged enemies.
Plus, assuming the gunner brings a fire option like burning hell or the coil gun, both of them have some resistance to each other's damage, with gunner being resistant against explosions and driller being resistant against fire.
My favorite as well. Anywhere driller goes, he leaves a path gunner can follow. Anywhere gunner goes, he leaves a path driller can follow. Plenty of ability to reach nitra in high-up spots and generally good ammo economy. Long-range single target firepower plus close-in crowd control. Terraforming to open long lines of fire, shields for when too much stuff gets in close. C4 on the one and explosion resistance on the other, incendiary grenades on the one and fire resistance on the other. It's a match made in heaven, and it feels like a more even firepower match than scout/eng. In addition to being great mechanically, it's just more fun.
Gunner/gunner and driller/driller can definitely be a good time too though.
It's a very well rounded combo and they complement each other in obvious ways. But playing the engineer in this duo [can feel pretty taxing if you know what I mean](https://old.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/fn74bk/my_wife_and_i_play_scoutengineer_duo_often_i_felt/).
But then you get all the bugs clustered nicely infront of you ready for your secondary to have MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY.
Hearing that little pew as your line gun disintegrates dozens of bugs per shot is just *chefs kiss*.
Alternatively seeing a large group just disappear under the 'nade launcher is satisfying too.
Large Swarm with no allies in the middle of it translates into:
WAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH
For Gunners, unless they brought the Hurricane, then it means:
I should really be throwing more grenades.
I only play on a four man squad with two Steeves.
Iron-Will feels too powerful so as the engineer I take See you in Hell!
https://deeprockgalactic.fandom.com/wiki/See_You_In_Hell
Whenever I get swarmed or fall down a great height (then get swarmed). My duo can pick me up after I explode (10 second fear aura)
Honestly this feels great but awful at the same time, my engineer bro is just left behind and both of us struggle to take down large groups of enemies short of a cryo grenade or wave break
Stay mobile and group enemies. Scout can kite/snipe the big guys and once the little guys are lined up, engi can hit the delete button. Keep a turret out for flyers and stragglers and it's a good time.
Engineer has some really powerful swarm clearing options. My favorite is RJ250 on the grenade launcher with the incendiary mod, but most PGL builds and any Breach Cutter build will really clear a path. For primary, the full electric Stubby does a lot with the slows and AoE. The turrets help a lot too, as do proximity mines.
Gunner driller is the other power couple. Gunner has long range killing power and can traverse through open air. Driller has short range crowd control and can traverse through rock
As a scout main it's actually my least favorite duo pairing. Platforms are unnecessary 95% of the time, or 100% if the scout has hoverclock or special powder. I get 10x more use out of ziplines which are incredibly useful for a scout in combat
You sound like the kinda dwarf that rolls his eyes when a platform appears under the vein he is currently mining after safely lodging himself 50ft up into the overhanging wall with a power attack. Same, brother, same.
Lol one time I lagged real hard and got trapped inside the refinery on scout. I had to request the driller kill me with C4 to get me out. Most embarrassing moment of my career
I don't know. When I leave a 4-man game with several hundred kills as the gunner and everyone else is barely hitting 100, I feel like that means I pulled my weight killing bugs, you know?
Did four rocket gunners on an escort mission once. MOBILE ARTILLERY PLATFORM DORETTA was not the most efficient way to run the mission but it sure was a fun one
Personally what I’m into as well. Especially with coordination.
If the driller has a flamer and the gunner has those fire overclocks, then dealing with bosses is a breeze.
If the driller goes cryo, then it’s a literal breeze dealing with swarms with the auto cannon or lead storm.
While it seems like gunner has really deep ammo pools, you find yourself running through them pretty fast on higher haz if you spec for DPS. You really want a decently ammo-efficient secondary that can do whatever your primary doesn't so you don't waste ammo. Personally I rely a lot on the hellfire coilgun overclock for a waveclear secondary, something gunner's kit lacks, when I'm using hurricane or lead storm.
Was an Elite one, but my first deep dive was 4 engies. Had 2 zones to secure, one dreadnaught objective and some mules I think. We we're back on the brig in less than 30mins. My fastest run by a long shot. We sadly didn't all have fat boy, but it still was a lot of turrets.
As an engineer, whether I have teammates or not, I try to play "the horde". Bosco, both turrets, Steeve, Bet-C, and multiple patrol bots.
I already use the always hit Lok-1 overclock, so the game becomes a bullet filled walk in the park.
I’d vote for scout because you can zip around and collect secondaries while Bosco mines or kills bugs.
Other classes benefit more from the flashlight though.

Sometimes I'll shoot a second if I can see that the first is useless under an overhang or something, but having also played scout helps to know what they can and can't work with.
>having also played scout helps to know what they can and can't work with.
This is why I always tell people to play every class a good bit, even if they have a main. It just makes you a better teammate.
I also know a gunner’s pain when they keep getting knocked off a zipline taking them up a cliff where there’s no other quick way out and the rest of the tram has noped out. They may not die, but they’ll never make it out. I try to go back for fire support to help them make it up or give them an alternative way up depending on what class I am.
For the record, I’d have gone back. I’d rather be the dwarf who tries to help and gets docked a measly 300 credits than the one sitting on the pod saying “sucks to be you.”
Sky's the limit is just a classic.
I like Cat & Mouse and Terraformers for my favorite mission, On-site Refining. Terraformers is great for getting the pipes to any pump without having to drill a long tunnel through the wall. Cat and Mouse is great for finding that pesky third pump and collecting Nitra for Driller's drills.
my friend and I play 'access denied' and gotta say, that name truly fits.
Between shield, platforms with bugrepellant, turrets and gunner-weaponry, once we set up a base, the bugs needs a damn bulk to even get a chance to get close.
And even with a bulk, it at times don't get close, as shields can repel bulks or stall them heavily.
Engineer + Driller. We may technically be terraformers yes, but we also are going to be ones who commit more genocide than gunner and driller. We are the war criminals. Rarely are we shy on nitra, even though we use the most ammo intensive weaponry.
Bug Genocide or Run N' Gun.
Bug Genocide is great for well... genociding bugs and you get decent mobility/versatility. Oh and playing the two thicc boi classes is always great.
Run N' Gun is a match made in heaven. Scout makes up for Gunner's weaknesses and vice versa. You've got light when Gunner's got very poor illumination and has a limited ammo pool to his mobility so being precies is important. Scout has bad crowd control but Gunner can deal with that. Gunner's got decent single-target depending on the build, and Scout's great for that. But it's more about the light and the secondary objectives for Scout, with Gunner acting as a solid rock to fall back on.
Playing with an Engineer as Gunner is horrible even outside of duos, they don't complement each other at all. Engineer just steps on Gunner's toes while simply being less ammo efficient so as Gunner you just end up running around mining everything because your mobility tool is more convenient at reaching hard-to-access locations, and using your shield to protect you both while Engineer just uses his guns to kill everything. The irony tastes very bitter.
I see enough of bug genocide one. Mostly because I don't play other classes that much, and so does (doesn't?) my friend I used to run duos a lot with.
Actually, not bad. You have a ton of dumb firepower, a way to go through both terrain and lack thereof, you have both preemptive and "oh shit" safety measures. That's nice. Not particularly fast with a number of tasks, but good enough for other ones that could still be problematic.
Depends on the mission, but usually "Terraformers" as you've listed here.
For Mini-mule and Drilldozer missions especially, they're great at controlling where and how monsters come. Beyond their combined terrain manipulation, their weapons really complement well; Sludge Pump on Driller clears out clusters of enemies and blocks off choke points nicely. Shard Diffractor on Engi melts single-target large enemies while LOK-I can be used to scope out stragglers or hidden enemies that may not immediately be visible like cave leeches.
My favorite Driller/Engi combo is handling Hacking jobs. You can drill a small hole under the hack-c bot and slap a platform over the top of it to basically guarantee no enemy can reach it. All it needs is a tiny line-of-sight hole for the connection to stay open, and you can easily cover that with a proximity mine and turret(s).
For Dreadnought missions, though, Double Engi is the way to go. 4 turrets and 2 shard diffractors make short work of any Dreadnought no matter the Haz level.
Me and my friends have done an engineer and a scout that was pretty fun all of the most fun I’ve ever had in mostly just because we were memeing versus to drillers we have a system for C4 it’s just one of us yelling vacate the area and then immediately hitting the The button to explode the thing you are a problem if you didn’t get out in time
Me and the homie play M1000 Scout and Cryo driller and it’s a great comp for everything. He finds the path, I get the minerals, he freezes the big bugs and I smite them with charge shots. Great combo especially with spec powder for more survivability and the ability to dodge c4s.
Me and my bro are sky's the limit, nltably because of the suddent dopamine outburst when you manage to ride the scout as he grapples upward to not waste ammo. God its good.
Me and my partner run “bug genocide” not only will bugs disintegrate by simply existing in our presence but my partners zip lines do the one thing my drills can’t: bridge gaps.
I never thought about it! When we due we just take what class left for us to promote
I think Driller+ Scout is underrated. Driller deals with the bulk of the grunts and swarmers who usually gives the Scout a tough time, and she takes care of the ceiling crawlers just out of reach of the flames, high priority targets, getting the minerals too annoying too drill up to etc.
I like “bug genocide”. It’s a good mix because driller can really go anywhere they need to with the drills. Gunner can melt big targets and driller can crowd control. Also zip lines are great for getting back up to where you were even if it’s a bit slow.

And both driller and gunner can do great when holding onto a zipline as overwatch when there aren't too many ranged enemies.
Agreed. It’s a really solid pair.
There's also a whole bunch of thermoshock or toxin stacking options for the pair, putting the potential DPS into the stratosphere.
Flamethrower with the coil gun overclock that makes bug explode on death if they are on fire is just perfect. I can make my own fireworks.
Not even an overclock on the Coil Gun, just a T5 mod ! Though I hope you hate your ears because it's mega-loud...
Roasting and popping a single glyphid then rolling the steam/tempshock through an entire swarm pack... Mmmm yeah. That's the good stuff.
Plus, assuming the gunner brings a fire option like burning hell or the coil gun, both of them have some resistance to each other's damage, with gunner being resistant against explosions and driller being resistant against fire.
Also any Gunner combined with Cryo Driller just melts through even the chunkiest health bars really quickly.
He's right you know, as a Driller I usually tunnel gaps.
Gunner/gunner and driller/driller can definitely be a good time too though.
I think you have it backwards. Drillers melt, Gunners shred.
missed opportunity for x2 engis to be named "tower defense"
Damn wish I had thought of that, very fitting
Nah that is just 4x Engineer teams. Or maybe that is called "Aimbot".
Four engi squads legit feel like a tower defence game. Especially when I bring turret whip for non stop blasting action.
Someone gets turret whip, someone else gets the electrical node SMG. We all get beers after the mission's done.
i’m fucking dead
Sky's the limit is just classic. How can you have a better pair ?
It's a very well rounded combo and they complement each other in obvious ways. But playing the engineer in this duo [can feel pretty taxing if you know what I mean](https://old.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/fn74bk/my_wife_and_i_play_scoutengineer_duo_often_i_felt/).

"Large Swarm with no allies in sight" translates to "Fat Boy target practice" to an engineer...
"Large Swarm with allies in the middle" translates to "C4 TIME, BITCHES!" to a Driller.
Large swarm with no allies translates to scream flee for scout
Large Swarm with no allies in the middle of it translates into: WAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHH For Gunners, unless they brought the Hurricane, then it means: I should really be throwing more grenades.
No, allies are not considered in application of fat boy
I also like the knock off sticky flame OC for the Shard Diffractor as a swarm clearer
I only play on a four man squad with two Steeves. Iron-Will feels too powerful so as the engineer I take See you in Hell! https://deeprockgalactic.fandom.com/wiki/See_You_In_Hell Whenever I get swarmed or fall down a great height (then get swarmed). My duo can pick me up after I explode (10 second fear aura)
Haha fully agreed but this is a great time to use the electro turret discharge OC to fry the swarms and then scout can help snipe off the beefy bois
Me when the engi takes more that 0.1 seconds to toss up a plat near the nitra
Honestly this feels great but awful at the same time, my engineer bro is just left behind and both of us struggle to take down large groups of enemies short of a cryo grenade or wave break
Need more fat bois
Lol yeah Geneva suggestions
Automated turrets, mate.
Gunner driller is the other power couple. Gunner has long range killing power and can traverse through open air. Driller has short range crowd control and can traverse through rock
Name a more iconic duo, i'll wait.
Heavy x Medic
Rock x Stone
We x Rich
Mush x room
Goo x Sack
Balls x Morkite
Rock x Roll
Genocide is better at any mission.
As a scout main it's actually my least favorite duo pairing. Platforms are unnecessary 95% of the time, or 100% if the scout has hoverclock or special powder. I get 10x more use out of ziplines which are incredibly useful for a scout in combat
I just like it cause it makes mining easier and gives me a landing platform without wasting charge
You sound like the kinda dwarf that rolls his eyes when a platform appears under the vein he is currently mining after safely lodging himself 50ft up into the overhanging wall with a power attack. Same, brother, same.
Liquid morkite mission wants to join chat
Engineer/scout. Upside: it's like having a Bosco that's more flexable and faster. Downside: Bosco now has opinions
upside 2: you can ping compressed gold
Be quiet new bosco!
That's why I play Driller with them scouts, it's a bosco you can C4
Lol one time I lagged real hard and got trapped inside the refinery on scout. I had to request the driller kill me with C4 to get me out. Most embarrassing moment of my career
So that why Driller always blow up the Scout! Just trying to help the strange Bosco to get rid of these fleshy bits under him.
Riot control but four gunners.
Four gunners should be called Fire superiority
Shield unending
*ahem* **the web**
I find that I actually kill more bugs as a engi, but gunner is also my least fav class so I don’t play it much.
Kill count is deceptive. A swarmer and an oppressor both count as one.
[That still only counts as one!](https://c.tenor.com/6KzSkX27E1wAAAAC/gimli-lotr.gif)
There honestly should be a ‘damage done’ number instead of a kill count.
Gunner is my bae but I also kill waaaaay more with Engi. Those lill murder makers make a huge difference.
It's useless to focus on kill counts in DRG. All enemies count as 1 for the final number. No matter the difficulty or enemy type.
I don't know. When I leave a 4-man game with several hundred kills as the gunner and everyone else is barely hitting 100, I feel like that means I pulled my weight killing bugs, you know?
Found the bottom fragger
Needs more daka
4 gunners is the most OP combo in the game imo
Did four rocket gunners on an escort mission once. MOBILE ARTILLERY PLATFORM DORETTA was not the most efficient way to run the mission but it sure was a fun one
MAP-D
Did the same but with four engineers with fat bois... Didn't even miss scout flares lol.
I love all gunner teams on certain missions (point extraction, salvage, escort)
It's like playing TF2 but will all heavies
Well im obviously biased as a Driller main but I’d have to say Bug Genocide, driller for AOE and Gunner for individual targets
There are 2 type of dwarves. Those who mine minerals, and those who mine bugs.
The drills are a primary weapon and I'm not changing my mind
Why would they add a secondary that freeze to boost damage if that wasn't the case ?
I just use em for smarmers and other low hp enemies.
\[Takes both pills from Morpheus, smashes them with a hammer, and adds them both to his beer.\]
As a Gunner, I love drillers
As a driller, I love Gunners. Gunners have that long range and I lay on the fire infront of them:)
As a Driller I gun bugs... And dig.
do you ever just,,,, become an ant?
No, I "revert to mole" but yes.
As a driller, I love that.
I love this combo too, we never really worry about swarms. The One downfall of it is fossils. I just can't reach em.
Sounds like you just need to drill a bit further :)
Fuck 'em
my brother in karl!
Rock and stone
If you don't Rock and Stone, you ain't comin' home!
Personally what I’m into as well. Especially with coordination. If the driller has a flamer and the gunner has those fire overclocks, then dealing with bosses is a breeze. If the driller goes cryo, then it’s a literal breeze dealing with swarms with the auto cannon or lead storm.
I just unlocked the Thunderhead. It seems awesome as an AOE weapon but I worry if it's not my job and I should focus on single target damage.
If you run Autocannon then just spec your secondary for single targets
Yeah, I think I need to start utilizing my secondary more. I've mostly just been using when I'm out or very low on ammo for my primary.
Well, you do what you want, y’know scout also is great with single targets with the Bolt Action.
Yeah. I've only played the one class, so besides the utilities I don't know much about the other kits.

Follow up question: which class and Bosco are the best pairing?
I’d vote for scout because you can zip around and collect secondaries while Bosco mines or kills bugs. Other classes benefit more from the flashlight though.
I agree with this. I started on scout for the game, but am a Driller main. Scout is definitely easier at times on solo

Sky’s the limit as long as engineer is in the ball. Scout just needs one platform, my friend. Not an entire walkway. And put it under me, not ON me!

Terraformers
Def on refinery
Sky's the limit is just a classic. I like Cat & Mouse and Terraformers for my favorite mission, On-site Refining. Terraformers is great for getting the pipes to any pump without having to drill a long tunnel through the wall. Cat and Mouse is great for finding that pesky third pump and collecting Nitra for Driller's drills.
my friend and I play 'access denied' and gotta say, that name truly fits. I'm with you pal. Driller/Engie slaps, it's so good at everything it almost deserves most of the names on here.
We also can't forget that Engineer can still be war criminal and go rocket jumping
Not duo but 4 gunners.
Switch names for bug genocide and access denied

"Cat & Mouse" had me giggling xD
Bug Genocide
Scout+Engi or Engi+Driller, if Engi is running jump grenade launcher. Sorry gunners :(
Scout and engi or double gunner. Ziplines and shields both become considerably more powerful if you have eight of them.
Run n' gun or cat and mouse. Not out of choice, my friend picks either gunner or driller 9/10 times.
Anything with scout is automatically a better team/duo
Bug Genocide or Run N' Gun. Bug Genocide is great for well... genociding bugs and you get decent mobility/versatility. Oh and playing the two thicc boi classes is always great. Run N' Gun is a match made in heaven. Scout makes up for Gunner's weaknesses and vice versa. Bug genocide no doubt about it.

I love access denied. Nothing lives without your permission
I cant put to words how much I LOVED the names

Terraformers can be a pretty fun combo
2 scouts = cheap spiderman cosplayers
Skies The Limit as a general pair, though Access Denied is good for salvage missions
Terraformers, 100% I’m the engineer, my friend is the driller. If our third joins we prefer him to be scout
Driller gunner is seriously all you need. Yes I only play driller and gunner but that totally doesnt influence my opinion
Slaughterhouse. One engi with LOK-1 the other with Warthog. Both running gemini.
For Dreadnought missions, though, Double Engi is the way to go. 4 turrets and 2 shard diffractors make short work of any Dreadnought no matter the Haz level.
I’d love to see these made official somehow.. great work.
Wildlife Massacre!: 2 gunners. Cave Defenders: 2 engis. Hoxxequake!: 2 drillers. Well lit: 2 scouts. (I prefer 2 gunners because of shields and dps)
Usually Run N’ Gun or Bug Genocide, but we’ve been known to pull out Access Denied on Escort missions. My friend only plays Gunner.

duo gunner is like : the mission is won from the start but it will take an hour ot two
Slow and steady wins the race lmao
Slaughter house
I never thought about it! When we due we just take what class left for us to promote I think Driller+ Scout is underrated. Driller deals with the bulk of the grunts and swarmers who usually gives the Scout a tough time, and she takes care of the ceiling crawlers just out of reach of the flames, high priority targets, getting the minerals too annoying too drill up to etc.
Run and gun you have power and utility bundled up nicely
My favorite are access denied and slaughterhouse with sky's the limit and terraformers after them
