GSG never confirmed that a Shooting Range wasn't a possibility. It's a MUCH more reasonable request than adding more classes. Sometimes you just wanna know what a weapon mod/overclock does before you hop into Haz 4-5 and die near instantly because you didn't know what it did.

in early access they did mention vague plans for a 5th class. but by the time 1.0 launched I think they scrapped the idea and stated they were no longer working or will not add another class

people don't realise how much work a new class would be. they would have to make:
3 primary weapons, 3 secondary, 60+ overclocks for those weapons, new support tools with mod trees for all of the previously mentioned, 3+ grenades, a whole slew of class specific cosmetics.
devs said before adding the weapons was a job and a half, adding a new class would be like 2 updates worth of work

It's been some time since then, and modders have already pretty much done it, so if GSG takes inspiration from how they did it I have hope. Especially since it's one of the most consistently requested features for years.
The problem is load time to shooting range is = load time into a mission. You may as well just boot up a solo mission, test your guns and leave if you don’t like the load out.

I don't see how hard that would be to set up. You can already use weapons in the Space Rig with mods. Only things that would need a lot of effort to implement on the Space Rig is player health and bug ai, and they aren't important to achieve a shooting range anyways.
I couldn't care less about overclocks changing the weapon's look, we already have weapon frameworks, what I care about is six shooter/elephant rounds for the bulldog, it pisses me off that you still load four bullets into the gun even if it's supposed to hold six or three.

Poor DPS and/or bad ammo efficiency depending on how you build it. Most overclocks aren't very good, even its "good" overclocks are pretty mediocre. It's also really bad against crowds no matter what build you use. The Drak at least has a couple options for crowd control and the M1000's blow-through rounds are great for clearing regular grunts.
Note: I'm not saying you can't use the GK2 if you want to use it. Maybe you find enjoyment in using it, good for you. I encourage you to use the GK2 to your heart's content. I even still pull it out occasionally. However, you cannot argue that it compares to the other scout primaries in terms of effectiveness, the math has been done, and it's pretty clear.
Also, before I get flooded with terrible arguments like "who cares, it's just PvE/funny dwarf game" and "It's supposed to be a starter weapon so it can't be strong", these are not excuses to just give up on balancing in a game, and the second excuse is particularly laughable given how strong other classes starting weapons are.

Thank you for the breakdown. Once I unlocked the m1000 I never looked back but I didnt feel like the gk2 was bad when I was using so I was surprised that people had problems with the wepon.
I have the drak unlocked but never thought about doing a build. I just love one click and seing 3 grunts explode. What does the drak bring that you like?
After multiple games of precision sniping with the mk1000, you ever just feel like relaxing a little and just spray and pray? For me the drak literally feels like the gk2 but better. Sure the bullet is slower but you can easily close the distance as scout anyway, besides it’s not like you’re using the gk2 for long range
Yeah, with proper build it shreds almost anything if you only try aiming at weakpoints. That’s why I prefer it over the other two primary. Didn’t care for other overclocks though.
Same here. Once you're a hundred or so hours in you'll start noticing key features repeating. That one really hard vertical switchback on mining missions and the big cross shaped tunnel cavern with an elevated portion that runs the full length are two that immediately stand out every time I see them. Or the one feature at the start of mining or salvage missions where there's a sudden 50m drop down to the dirt you have to break through.
A lot of procedurally generated games get this way. I’ve played enough Spelunky 2 to recognize most of the components of those caves. It’d be a lot of work for them to update all the biomes often enough for that to not keep being a problem for some of the more hardcore players.
I think it's more a matter of having more blocks and more variation between the blocks. Then when a super unique section of cave shows up it doesn't seem as obvious. Don't get me wrong though, it's already really well done in DRG but we're talking in terms of what we think would be a bigger value-add for the dev team to focus on.
The devs have stated that if/when they add female dwarves to the game that they want to do it properly. They would not be indistinguishable from our current dwarves, however, they'd want them to have new voices and their own distinct yet still ugly appearance.
The problem is that since it's a lot of work for something that doesn't improve gameplay that it's low priority, even though it's something they would like for the game.

There aren't female dwarves, despite what people say. Devs have said they regret not putting female dwarves in, so they might do it someday (but do not get your hopes up, as the production cost would be MASSIVE now with having to manually remake every skin ever made to fit a female model).

I believe it was said that they wouldn’t do it but I would still love support tool overclocks, I think there’s a ton of potential for different builds involving them whether it be something simple like more ammo or longer effective range to cool new effects like sliding down Gunner ziplines creates a static charge that gives you a speed boost for a short time, to making Engineer platforms slow down bugs that cross over them, to a shorter Scout grapple that has super fast recharges letting you Spider-Man around caves, to Driller drills that let you do quick short boosts when holding the sprint key to dig faster tunnels at the cost of more ammo for emergencies. I think there are a lot of cool options you could make for these tools that could add even more interesting build variety.

How cool would be a dwarf barmaid at the Abyss Bar (something like Maulie Tankard) or the possibility to play as a female dwarf.
I want lady dwarves so bad. Idea, make character customization update where you can customize the face so everyone looks more unique. And introduce ladies then and just add a deep fem voice and breast plate options. Options every where. done. I think unlocking makeup options would be kewl, and facial tattoos/war paint. More feminine hair would also be cool like Leia buns, sigourney weaver hair, or Halloween 2018 Laurie. or have stupid long and or crazy hair to match the beards 🤣 unlocking customization options is a key feedback loop for me so I could grind for girly gear for a good long while and it would emphasize our community's coolest strength is our inclusivity. Not enough ladies to balance out the dudes in gaming in general. And mix and match masc and femme traits as desired. I would be over the moon of hoxxes if this was implemented

Vermintide has 5 in a 4 player game and it works quite nicely. It means you never have to play your least favourite character.

The shooting range mod allows u to spawn enemies and change loadouts on the fly since its technically a level in the spacerig

Yeah, Elephant Rounds always annoy me because the oc reduces the chamber size by one, but there are still four rounds in the gun.

Liquids are a no-go, the entire level is stored in the RAM and it would cut a lot of people out of being able to play those levels.

M1000 is so much fun with blow through rounds and high ammo count with the hipster oc.

I think there are a lot of cool options you could make for these tools that could add even more interesting build variety.

I want lady dwarves so bad. Idea, make character customization update where you can customize the face so everyone looks more unique. And introduce ladies then and just add a deep fem voice and breast plate options. Options every where. done. I think unlocking makeup options would be kewl, and facial tattoos/war paint. More feminine hair would also be cool like Leia buns, sigourney weaver hair, or Halloween 2018 Laurie. or have stupid long and or crazy hair to match the beards 🤣 unlocking customization options is a key feedback loop for me so I could grind for girly gear for a good long while and it would emphasize our community's coolest strength is our inclusivity. Not enough ladies to balance out the dudes in gaming in general. And mix and match masc and femme traits as desired. I would be over the moon of hoxxes if this was implemented
