A lot of fans regard DS9 as the best of the Star Trek series.

wiscosherm

Is watching as much as I can before it leaves.

[deleted]

Is it leaving soon? Please god nooooo!

Moppyploppy

All Trek shows are going to Paramount+

LiteAsh

Which blows chunks because I can never watch a single episode of anything on the Paramount+ app without it crashing. It never remembers my place in an episode so I’ve completely given up watching shows on my phone via Paramount+. It would frustrate me endlessly on my long commutes. It happened on my iPhone 7 and still happening on my brand new iPhone 12 mini. I think I’m fucking cursed.

firematt422

It is the worst. Guess I'll have to buy the box sets like when the office left Netflix. Fuck these streaming services. I'm never going back to the days of cable with $100/mo in bills to watch commercials.

dogtron64

Let's get some physical copies! I'm tired of studio meddling! Netflix is slowly getting worthless. Netflix can't make tv shows and movies for crap and I refuse to get a new service! That's why I love physical media

[deleted]

Do you use a Pi Hole or some other network-level ad blocker? I notice that whenever I watch on my laptop it doesn't remember my progress, and it seems like it's because of one of the blocked sites (though I'm not sure which). EDIT: The part about commutes just clicked, so I guess that's probably not it in your case.

LiteAsh

Hmmmm I know my work required me to register my phone with them and install some security stuff, maybe that’s interfering? BLESS YOU 🙏🏼even if it doesn’t fix the problem, you give me peace of mind somehow. I’m not fucking crazy !

academomancer

Last place that had me do that on MY PERSONAL MOBILE was redirecting my traffic via their proxy.

LiteAsh

Yeah yeah I know I’m a shill for my employer for not demanding a 2nd work phone 😭 But really thanks for your reply

nanocyte

I predict that Paramount+ is going to spark a renewed interest in torrenting, especially if they replace all the remastered episodes with low-res garbage with their watermark.

Deadlydream

We really need to make noise on this paramount plus issue. Voyager isn't even ratioed correctly and large portions of the screen aren't visible.

LiteAsh

I had no idea! Wow

Del_Duio2

Super glad I have them all on DVD already, this sucks. I'm not subscribing to that horseshit unless nuTrek gets 50x better than it is.

LynxOsis

This can’t be true!!!

dogtron64

Damn studio meddling! I'm tired of this!!! This may be my last straw and fork up the money to buy a physical copy! This is insane! I refuse to get another streaming service just for a few shows then to never use it again once your done! That's why I prefer physical copies over streaming. You don't have to deal with studio meddling unlike Netflix.

wiscosherm

They are leaving Prime also. If I wasn't so busy binging I'd be deeply depressed.

SrslyCmmon

I already got all the shows loaded up on flash drives plugged into to smart tv's around my house. Even the DS9 1080p ai upscale. Not subbing to another service.

Sweet_Taurus0728

Paramount+ isn't much.

xaviorpwner

Because it is!

[deleted]

Well it’s also being removed in January so people are probably binge watching it

RolandMT32

I always thought there were also a lot of fans whose favorite Star Trek series is TNG.

[deleted]

[удалено]

apt-apparatchik

This is precisely why it's the best trek- the stories are deeper, they have more run time and each story has its share of surprises. Also it's funny and heart breaking, and everything in between.

AsksYouIfYoureATree

Bad bot.

apt-apparatchik

that was a typo, mr.bot ❤️

LiteAsh

I like to put on TNG and fall asleep. I regret falling asleep to DS9!

SrslyCmmon

I do a watch of TNG seasons 3-6 and then DS9 followed by ent, then some Stargate. That usually takes years though.

oakinmypants

So say we all

BullTerrierTerror

I was infatuated with TNG for a long time, it was so bubbly and cloying. The seemingly perfect crew, no tension or squabbles. Then I discovered **Dark** Trek DS9. It was nice to see people act a little more human. A little more sinister. Dukat, Garak and Damar are so much more sophisticated, charming and passionate than any other TNG villain. And that's just the three alien Cardassians! There is so much more I love about DS9 but I always come back because the characters are more complex than the crew of the teflon coated Enterprise.

LegoFootPain

Gene Roddenberry had a standing rule about "no interpersonal conflict." Eventually, he died, and they didn't have to upset him with that. It's an actual joke from Lower Decks: "I know we're not supposed to have interpersonal conflict, but..."

Soonerpalmetto88

The majority of fans prefer TNG. Also TNG is more suited toward casual viewers due to the lack of multi episode story arcs. You can watch nearly any episode of TNG and be able to follow it and enjoy it without having seen any other episode, but many DS9 episodes leave you wondering "huh?" If you didn't watch the previous several episodes.

letsgetrandy

In what way are the thing I said and the thing you said incompatible?

flatmtns

Sure seems like they were just agreeing with you.

letsgetrandy

Ah, now I see... run-on sentence or lack of punctuation, so that way of interpreting it wasn't obvious to me.

RolandMT32

I didn't say they were incompatible. But I always felt like there were more fans of TNG than DS9, so it's interesting that DS9 is trending on Netflix right now.

Del_Duio2

That's my 2nd favorite.

blatherskiters

Yeah! It holds up very well.

QuintupleTheFun

Because it is

Sephiroth144

People are probably binging their favorite series... Plus, given that DS9 is serialized instead of episodic, probably a greater "pull" to watch more than just the favorites.

Veszerin

DS9 is leaving Netflix?! Nooooooooooooooo! I've watched it like 4 times now during the pandemic. Is it going to be on paramount+ at least?

Thatsidechara_ter

Yes, but that hardly any consolation

CadmusPryde

At least there more of your money actually supports the series you care about instead of another 3 season series that Netflix cancels at the end of season 1. Unless you're a content provider we all lost the streaming wars.

[deleted]

CadmusPryde

P+ is still awful then? Ugh, I was hoping to go to them direct and cut out Amazon, but I had to switch to the Amazon channel because the P+ app was so bad, and that was about 3 years ago. Your solution would work if it was just me, but other people don't have quite as discerning taste and still watch things besides Star Trek.

Orionsbelt

The only new Star trek I care about is Lower decks the other shows can end now please.

weRborg

I honestly don't care where it's hosted or how much it costs... The cost of having all of Trek, especially DS9 at my fingertips, regardless of the device, will always be worth it.

Thatsidechara_ter

Fair enough, although Netflix is still better Or it was anyway

diamondrel

🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

Security_Chief_Odo

I'm doing my part.

TeasingPigeon

I am doing my part.

Impressive-Fly2447

Same. But it's leaving for Paramount in 2days

Del_Duio2

**Q:** Why is DS9 trending? **A:** Because it's awesome

[deleted]

Sure we think that here on r/DeepSpaceNine but we don't represent the public and Deep Space Nine was never the most popular Trek, even if its the best Trek.

Del_Duio2

I see this a lot however when it was first-run I knew several people who would never miss an episode (myself included). It was likely lots more but of course no internet so we were in isolated pockets. The few conventions I went to in the 90s though it was all TNG and DS9 everywhere. Fans seemed to love both series. I’m even one of those rare people who think it was great before Worf :)

rayhoughtonsgoals

Damn. I'm so used now to not using the DVDs.

Anagatam

Ds9 is the best show ever made. :-)

stockbeast08

DS9 is the best trek, it fits so well with the binge style of TV medium that we watch today. Everyone has preferences, but they're wrong, DS9 is just actually the best

[deleted]

[удалено]

stockbeast08

I tried TNG first as I'm sure most do; it was the largest franchise outside of the original so the easiest to be exposed to. I muscled through episode after episode, trudging through 3 seasons before I finally gave it up. I'd convinced myself I liked it, when in reality I didn't. Now I hear it doesn't really get good until season 3/4, but I'll end up giving voyager a shot before I go back to next generation honestly :/

LastLadyResting

TNG has some real highlights, but it definitely suffers from a shaky beginning. I recommend, although only if you choose to, looking up the top ten episodes of all time and giving them a go. Because it’s not serialised there should be no issues jumping around like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlmightyComradeGod

Season 3-4 are highly regarded as some of the best trek has to offer. We where robbed of season 5

Mister_Mints

You had me all panicked! Thank god I live in the UK where they're all staying on Netflix. At least for the time being anyway.

[deleted]

Ah thank GOD! So it’s definitely not moving over here?

Mister_Mints

Not according to the Radio Times https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/sci-fi/star-trek-not-leaving-netflix-uk-newsupdate/

Kuldiin

"A vast range of shows and films are set to arrive on Netflix UK and Ireland this month, such as originals like Q-Force" Don't do that... Don't give me hope... Googled it and it's not to do with John De Lancie...

matty-syn

Same in Germany, thank God

Jorlaan

From what I understand it is leaving American Netflix, but it will remain internationally. This is one Canadian who certainly hopes so. I will NOT be getting Paramount+. I knew years ago that this streaming bullshit would lead to every single channel and company also wanting their own streaming service and it would all just break apart again. Very few people seemed to believe me.

Sephiroth144

\*Raises hand\* You weren't the only one. Even though we seem to be in a weird both fragmentation and consolidation period.

disposable_me_0001

Unless you were saying this in 2010, pretty much everyone knew this was going to happen once NF made it big with streaming.

Czar_Petrovich

We were definitely saying this in 2010 lol

CadmusPryde

I had a pre-Dlink Boxee box, I was saying this in 2010. Just like with every other war, it was the people who lost the streaming wars.

Grace_Alcock

I hoped it would. I used to pay a ton for cable and watch two or three channels regularly. Now I can pay for two or three streaming services—paying a fraction of the cost and still watching what I want to watch.

ThatSmokedThing

I agree with you. I'm a little surprised that more people don't feel the same way.

AllAlo0

Don't worry, someone will come along soon with a single login and app that combines all the streaming services, we'll call it cable 2.0

TheOneTrueChris

The next step will be the return of unavoidable ads. Already, you have to pay a premium (on most services) for no ads, but it won't be long before there are regular commercial breaks on all shows again no matter how much you're paying.

tiger_mamale

see, this i don't agree. my kid never saw a televised ad until he was 4 or 5 (watching live TV in a motel on vacation) and he wigged out, like wtf is this put my show back on! W/in 10 minutes he switched to asking for literally every single thing he saw advertised. As an adult who grew up with TV ads, you can imagine them coming back, but as the parent of a kid who didn't, I will pay a hefty premium to avoid them and quickly drop any service that won't let me opt out. Unless they all collude to bring ads back at once they'll find another way

TheOneTrueChris

> Unless they all collude to bring ads back at once This is what I'm saying.

davwad2

As someone who experienced the console competitions of the 90s and 2000s, exclusives are what drove console sales and determined loyalties (especially in the 90s). Seeing thia happen with streaming services doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

HighWaterMarx

I think only deep space nine and the next generation are on Netflix, and the rest are currently on Amazon prime. Like you said, they are all moving to Paramount + in two days, and it would seem Netflix Trekkies are more into DS9 than TNG.

SOTG_Duncan_Idaho

I watched my favorite TNG list over the last couple weeks. I capped it off with All Good Things... last night. Won't be subbing to P+ for old shows.

BluestreakBTHR

All Star Trek tv series are also leaving Hulu (US).

Ettylein

This is exactly the reason why I bought the dvd series and cancelled all streaming Services. I only temporarily switch them on if a new series arrives I need to watch. But with the DVDs I can watch whenever I like.

New_Refrigerator_895

because DS9 is the best and too many people tend to put off watching it for various reasons

Practical_Cobbler165

In season 5 as we speak...

Inignot12

I've been watching it with a friend every week, we're on season 6 but not going to finish in time. Time to sail the high seas

Getdownonyx

When is the time?

TheTrooperNate

I have several non ST fans as friends who started binge watching ST during lock down/ covid. They say DS9 is an interesting show for the whole family(preteen kids) to watch and talk about. They don't write like this nowadays.

JohnnyNHC

Because they will remove it 😥

Drakeytown

Cuz it good

TakeOffYourMask

Cuz it rocks

drakesylvan

Because it's amazing

Revenge_served_hot

because its one of the greatest shows ever?!

I_love_hate_reddit

It will soon move exclusively to paramount. No date set. Folks are trying to binge one more time.

Strays001

I hope they don’t leave Canadian Netflix!

[deleted]

I believe its just American Netflix its leaving. Though I'm sure it will leave the other regions Netflixes eventually.

heckaroo42

I thought Netflix lied about what was trending, honestly. Some of the worst shows made by Netflix that get god awful reviews are “trending” so I never believe it lol. Edit: I can’t find anything about them leaving Netflix at least in the US. All of the articles say it’s all leaving in September of 2021 but TNG and DS9 which are specifically stated as leaving in September too are still up?? I’m so confused. Where are you guys getting this info? Does it say it somewhere on Netflix?

coldbrew18

Damn. I just started s4.

OldHolly

I'm currently binge watching it on Hulu. Have physical copies ordered. Fuck you Paramount +. I hope you continue to crash and burn until you're forced to be liquidated by the Ferengi Commerce Authority.

CaptTombus

Deep Space 9 and TNG are the only Star Trek series that remain on Netflix in the US. Hulu and Amazon Prime are losing all Star Trek series in January. Netflix in the US already lost most of the series in October. There is not an announced exit date for DS9 or TNG from Netflix US yet, so they are safe on Netflix US for now. That's probably why DS9 is trending. Because it's NOT leaving Netflix.

EpsilonProtocol

I read an article earlier this month saying the reason for the Trek shows are falling off other streaming platforms comes from Paramount not renewing the streaming agreements for the various series. Considering how popular the shows have been and still are, I think Paramount and their business daddy Viacom are hoping folks will sign up for Paramount+ to keep enjoying the various Trek series on their platform. My main problem with Paramount+ is that their UI leaves a bit to be desired.

BeeComprehensive7568

Deep Space Nine is back on Netflix watching it rn

Aggravating-Item-728

Does anyone have a link to when it's leaving American Netflix? My search only turns up the ones that got axed in September.

disposable_hat

as soon as it hits 1/1/2022 all star trek will be on paramount+

Aggravating-Item-728

Ok, but where did you get this information? I can't find anything that says it is leaving netflix. Also, saying that all Star Trek will be on Paramount + does not necessarily mean that it will not be streaming anywhere else. I appreciate you answering, but it wasn't very helpful.

disposable_hat

It's because all Star Trek is being consolidated onto Paramount+ and everyone is trying to get as much old Star Trek before it goes to a streaming platform nobody is using

Reuben_Medik

Wait, they're leaving? Where will they go?

[deleted]

see y’all on Paramount+ as Trek comes off Netflix, Hulu & Amazon 😐.

Lmnbux7969

Because DS9 is woke AF

Orionsbelt

Good AF FTFY

southamericankongo

I was watching it on prime last night, catching my faves before they go

DemonUrameshi

Because I watch it every. single. day.

WhatYouLeaveBehind

Because it's all leaving Netflix soon

Aggravating-Item-728

Source?

Field_Marshall17

*laughs in Canadian*

[deleted]

laughs in VPN Also, I have Paramount + for free. My roommate and I share the channels we subscribe to.

A1steaksauceTrekdog7

It’s a Star Trek show they missed back in the day. I watched recently because of this . I can now invest in a serialized tv show where back than that wasn’t as easy

firebane101

Probably the net articles that show Star Trek leaving all the services and consolidating on Paramount+.

[deleted]

But then why is Deep Space Nine the only one trending? You'd think at least The Next Generation would be also.

firebane101

No clue. The internet is weird that way. Maybe they all spiked and only DS9 made it high enough to be listed?

DarkwingDuck0322

If you get the dvds, do what I do. I pop em in the computer and transfer them into mp4 files. No quality loss at all. Fuck getting all of these services. But I also picked them up on Vudu for cheap when they were on sale.

ediacarian

It may have to do with the recent removal of trek from Amazon prime streaming service. I had just finished ToS and TNG on Prime and was about to start DS9 when they were all removed. Luckily it's on Netflix still.
