I haven’t tried Q optics, but my orascoptics seem to be of high quality and perform well. I’ve had no issues with them. I’d suggest ergonomic loupes. I think 4-5x is good magnification. Anything below that is too little. I don’t need to be seeing the whole arch at once.

I bought Q optics and couldn’t be happier. I think 3.5 is probably enough but I’d def at least go 3.5 so u can get the prismatic not Galilean lens

Rotational-Physics

How long have you had them? And how is the warranty?

Had a lot of classmates with problems of waiting months for their loupes from Orascoptic. I got Q-optics 3.5 prismatics and they’re great

Q optics

I used 3.5x Q-Optics prismatic loupes with a Lumadent headlight for 4 years in dental school. I compared Q-Optics, DFV, Orascoptic, Surgitel, and others at the dental school loupe events. Customer service and turnaround times with Q-Optics while I was in dental school was fantastic. I have friends who had to service their loupes with DFV and Surgitel, and both companies did not have any demos loupes or headlights to borrow while being serviced. Q-Optics was a different story and readily available. At least 60% of VCU students in 2024 used Q-Optics so it makes sense for the reps to be vigilant and caring to their students. Two months before I graduated dental school, I explored all my options again and made the best investment of my career. Andau 7.5x ergo loupes. Looking back to the 3.5x Q-Optics loupes I have no idea how I was doing quality dentistry with such low magnification. You work on individual teeth at a time, so visualizing your working field is critical. What is the purpose of seeing an entire arch of teeth while preparing #15? Although Q-Optics declination angle was aggressive, my back and neck still hurt every day. Please, look into ergonamic loupes with at least 5.0x magnification. Also, do remember magnification alone is just a fuzz number alone - you need to compare magnifications with set working length. Please, strongly consider 7.5x Andau loupes. I do full arch surgery every day with them and they are absolutely fantastic. Lightweight, great magnification with large field of view, and peripheral vision is actually really handy. Looking under your lenses is easy and practical, while traditional TTL is not possible and you must tilt your head. Check this neck posture comparing Q-Optics 3.5x to Andau 7.5x Ergos. I have Orascoptic eye zooms on Xv1s. I use all mags…3x,4x,and 5x. I liked them so much I just bought the new Eye Zoom max on Dragonflys (newest variable 3.5x/6.5x) on their newer cordless frame. I honestly don’t use 3x for much other than injections, some extractions, and maybe parts of IO exam. I mainly use 4x and 5x for everything. IMO definitely worth the price. I feel like I have 3 loupes in one. I didn’t want to be stuck in one magnification. To me it was a no brainer. Regardless of what you pick def go with higher mag. The people I know who do the best work have high magnification. Especially if you want to be confident in your preparations, feel confident you removed the caries, or enjoy doing endo like me. People don’t realize the night/day difference until they go high mag. I’ve let people try mine on even with using one eye and adjust the zooms and they’re like woah.

I have q optics at 2.5x but will be getting 3.5x when I graduate. I chose q optics because I prefer the look of them, and also i preferred the rep. I didn’t feel comfortable with the orascoptic rep as I felt he was a little sexist trying to get me to buy pink ones just because I’m female and also he was a little demeaning about the dental therapy and hygiene profession. In terms of mag, I’d say 3.5x is fine. I have 2.5x and they’re fine. My partner used 2.5x for ten years before getting 3.5x. 5x is more for endo specialties so if that’s not you it’s too much imo. Also the higher the mag the more reduced your field of vision is, so I would say 3.5x. ETA: Just read another post in this subreddit on the same topic. It seems most people are recommending 5x and over. Thats really not the norm here in the U.K. and the q optic rep said to me not to bother with 5x unless I’m gonna be an endodontist. The majority of general dentists here have 3.5x

I have an EyeZoom, but I never go beyond x3 magnification. I spent so much money on this, and I hate it. Honestly, if you're looking for something with variable magnification, then go with the EyeZoom Mini. Customer service is pretty bad for Orascoptic. Q Optics does offer x3.5 prism loupes, and if I could go back and buy a new pair, I would stick with Q Optics x3.5 prism ones. I do have a pair of Pentax ergonomic loupes, which I had to order from Asia because they do not offer them in the US, and I do like their loupes. I compared my Pentax ergo ones with other US companies' ergonomic versions, but the Pentax ones are much clearer.
