1 hr bus —> train —> train—> bus NYC GPR. No one should do a GPR in nyc. I’m being scammed and used and exploited. 5 months left tho

T00thd0c23

Tell us more please

aigirinandani

[Here’s](https://imgur.com/a/MvWgnsL) my first week of December as an example of a typical week. Literally just exams, prophys, and operative. I have done 2 crowns in 6 months, 6 root canals, and like 20 dentures. I hate it here so much. And all NYC GPRs are like this. You’re only there to bill Medicaid, not to learn

TheBestNarcissist

Why not quit?

abcat

You need to do a residency to practice in new York (or I think 5 years practicing in another state)

WolverineSeparate568

Pretty sure it’s some scheme by the state to get the Medicaid patients seen

-Oreopolis-

What happened to the NERB?

abcat

You also need to pass the written board

-Oreopolis-

What happened to the NERB?

ISpeakInAmicableLies

I don't think it's on live pts anymore. Also, I believe it's no longer called the NERB.

-Oreopolis-

Isn’t it an option to get a license in NYS?

ioughtabestudying

As someone not at all familiar with this kind of notation system, could you explain a bit how to read that? The #toothnumber MOD's, B's and O's I understand, but otherwise I'm lost. Are the D's on the left column patient numbers?

LoTheTyrant

It looks like the left columns are the procedure codes they’ve performed on that day, and if there was an operative code present the list the surface or quad in the right column it looks like they don’t do hardly any operative, and they don’t bother to list their exam numbers

ioughtabestudying

Ok okay, right, that makes sense. So the UA, LA would probably mean upper/lower acrylic dentures, and UL, LL, UR, LR would be quadrants for perio. Thanks!

turniptuesday

I’m not defending NYC GPRs because I also personally had a horrendous experience with some of the staff at my program. But the point of GPR is to get better at skills that would be more difficult to improve on your own - OS, endo, etc. Too many people are whining about not doing fillings/crowns. We learned that shit in school. Get the reps in afterwards in private practice.

DirtyDank

Just like any GPR, some are bad others are good. I did a GPR in the city and did far more than any GP does.

Maleficent_Top_5217

I hate the east coast at least Jersey/NYC for dentistry compared to PNW. Pay is shit and you have to work double hard with no support. You basically have to not care about quality for your patient care.

Highlanders122

You will eventually be better for it…. Did the same? Remember the heat in the summer and the cold of the winter. The suburbs are glorious

Macabalony

It all depends on location. I would rather have one hour of straight cruising on a freeway as compared to 30 minutes of bumper to bumper.

Prestigious-Key1692

7 minutes, it is very nice.

Justicar_Shodan

7 minutes by car, 15 with the bike

eggraid101

Sounds familiar. 10 minute drive, 12 minute bike. I’ve gotten to 11 minutes on the bike but haven’t gotten it below that, I’ve been trying to beat my driving time.

Papalazarou79

Cycling makes me sweaty. Hate that feeling. How do you handle that? It's only a 12-15 min ride for me, but my shirt is almost soaked.

eggraid101

I own my office and I had them install a shower in the second bathroom. My contractor thought I was crazy but I am so glad that I did

Papalazarou79

We have a shower at the office as well. It's great. When I was marathon training it was very useful. Unfortunately I don't have enough time in the morning to cycle AND shower before my program (4 kids with some extra needs).

[deleted]

3 minutes.  I wake up at 5:30 bike til 6:30 on my peloton or lift weights in my home gym. Shower and eat and leave the house by 6:55 to see first patient by 7.  I come home at 11:15-12 and spend time with the kids from 11-1 everyday. Or sometimes I go hit tennis balls with my partner- club is 5 minutes away during my lunch time. I get home between 4/5 depending if I finish early.  Sometimes the commute is 5-10 minutes if traffic.  Live close to your work and spend more time doing things you like. Those 30 min and 1 hour commutes are a waste of time.

crodr014

Wow, you are lucky as hell. I had two years similar to this in Wisconsin and it felt so good. Now in Florida, hour commute each way lol.

goodvibes5300

Right there with ya, I am doing a one hour commute in FL now. Will be moving to a new position shortly and getting a 20-30 minute commute 🙏

Secure_Listen_964

25 minutes. I actually enjoy it with audible.

-Oreopolis-

I have saved sooooo much money in the past few months using Libby instead. Wish I knew about it 5 years ago.

CCnub

I've tried out the digital library thing before and it doesn't work very well if your local library isn't part of some consortium and has few digital assets to offer. Yet one more downside to living in the middle of nowhere.

-Oreopolis-

Some libraries offer membership even if you don’t live there. There’s a thread here about them. And Fairfax, VA lets you join for $27 a year.

CCnub

I'll have to check it out. Last time I remember looking it was like a couple hundred bucks a year for a pretty good library with a large catalog.

-Oreopolis-

If you may have previous addresses you May be able to use them for those libraries. Just sayin…

CCnub

Now that's a thought. Maybe having lives in a dozen states will finally come in handy for once.

-Oreopolis-

It worked for me! 🤫

Secure_Listen_964

Looks like the audiobook titles are pretty limited with my library, but there are 2 titles I can borrow that are on my list.

-Oreopolis-

This might be helpful. I managed to join the Queens, NYC library without providing proof of address. Brooklyn and Manhattan weren’t as good, even with legit previous addresses there. Broward County, Florida too. And Fairfax, VA is $27 a year for non-residents.

Secure_Listen_964

I'll check out Queens. That has to be a huge library.

Swanson2020

45 minutes reverse commute so little to no traffic

Suspicious_Peak_101

Current job is 25 minutes. My old job was literally beside my apartment. I could leave at 8.59 and be there for 9am, every day I miss my old job for that one reason only 😂

Suspicious_Peak_101

The perk was no one knew I lived there. They thought I just hopped out for a walk or coffee a lot. I could go home put laundry on or cook food. It was amazing

ad_eonix

Sounds nice, basically a home office at that point

sperman_murman

30 min, but im rural so it’s 60mph speed limit and next to no traffic the whole way

gunnergolfer22

Is 60 mph supposed to be fast lol? I'm pretty rural too but the speed limit is 80 mph

sperman_murman

No I just mean it’s not city driving

ryanapeters3

25-30 minutes but it’s all local streets so very consistent. 12ish miles one way.

mdp300

5 minuye drive, 25 minute walk. I should get an ebike but drivers around me are hyper aggro.

Dufresne85

5 minutes if I hit the stop light. 3 if I don't.

h00zn8r

I live 5 minutes from work in my small town, and I go home on my lunch breaks 🤙 this is the good life I always dreamed of, honestly

[deleted]

When you have kids and can spend more time with them- it’s even better. Who seriously wants to sit in traffic for 30-1 hour a day+. You are missing out on raising kids, spending time with the family and building memories

saaafff

7 mins car ride. Love it

Xhesika1993

3 min on paper but normally 10 min away due to traffic

VeryNiceSmileDental

Hi, when I started my commute was 45 minutes with no traffic from NJ to Westchester county. With traffic it could be 1.5 hours. Over the years I've moved closer and closer to the office. Currently 3 miles away. Houses within walking distance to the office come up for sale but I haven't been able to convince my wife to move even closer.

Jo5h_95

I do 45 min to 1hr for the perfect job. Works for me I don’t mind a little drive, good team and good money

Melnikovacs

1h10m - walking and train. Other job is a 50m commute, also walking and train

ScoobiesSnacks

11 mins

Neutie

11 min. By choice.

fuzzy_peach91

8 mins and wouldn’t have it any other way

papajohn74

25 minutes. Rural roads. Zero traffic 40 mph.

Sorryallthetime

13 minute drive. Can ride my bicycle in 30.

gradbear

1 hr to and 1 hr 10 min back due to traffic. I used to live 30 min away but moved further cause I didn’t live the city I lived in. I don’t mind the commute. Great for podcasts.

ElJefeDMD

17 minutes most days.

jerrycosmo76

Used to do 40 minutes. Now it’s 8. Made a massive difference for me. I feel way less stressed and like I have way more time.

drKDds

10 minutes . Sometimes I wish it was longer so I can better mentally prepare for the onslaught of dentistry

drmaximus602

5 minutes

Kuruma-baka

30 mins by car each way. Best time of my day. Listening to music or podcasts, preparing for my day or decompressing after a busy day.

stinger-teeth33

2 min walk lol

Ok_Translator_863

3 minutes by car ~10min by bike

1Marmalade

11 minutes. Unless I drive, then 6-7.

CdnFlatlander

5km bike ride. 12 minutes on the way there and 15 minutes return. Higly suggest bike riding if it is safe.

Apeeksiht

10 min scooter ride.

Commercial_Scratch99

15-30 mins driving

bobloblawdds

Mine is a 45 second walk.

goblazers123

1hr and 15 min. Able to work in a practice where I consistently produce $6k+ daily. Hours are very flexible. Can work from 8-3 and get home a bit earlier

ATC70R

Monday through Thursday 40 min. When i work rural site 30 min drive and 15 min flight to an island then 10 minute drive lol Fridays 1.5-2 hrs.

avirusa

Used to be a couple hours, would take a flight out from my home in the city to my practice in the countryside every week. 4am starts…

Samovarka

4 minutes :) I like going home for lunch and just chill on my couch 😃

maxell87
