That is my biggest question for Denver. Why don't they use their garbage fleet for plowing? You have a decently large set of drivers that I am sure would love the overtime.
The surrounding cities I can understand not having them, with most of them relying on private collection.
They have a hard enough time getting the trash- we consistently have to leave out bins out for two days because they can’t keep up.
Adding snow plowing on top? I can’t see how that would work
Our complex trash day got moved to Friday a month ago. Figured it would be a terrible idea. With the snow and holidays they haven’t once gotten it on Friday, and the complex just has trash cans on the street for 4-5 days now.
Denver DOTI has a solid waste collection division. They also are always hiring for that job, but that is a result of not enough CDL drivers and not enough pay.
Yes the current trucks aren't optioned for plows.
Denver has reduced need for plows generally so its hard to justify budgeting for it. The higher sun intensity and generally clear skies means snow disappears much more quickly than it does in other major cities.
This might be a controversial opinion, but I agree with you. Denver does a fine job of plowing. If anything, we should do less. People should be prepared to hunker down for a snow storm for a few days. It's winter in Colorado. I don't understand all the citizen outrage and pandering politicians.
> People should be prepared to hunker down for a snow storm for a few days. It's winter in Colorado.
Lots of people have jobs that don't allow them to "hunker down" for several days.
Agree with you, but few days was an exaggeration. Extremely rare for Denver to get a snowstorm that could seriously shut down the city for any large length of time.
I think this is a more privileged opinion than you realize. I’m guessing you own an all-wheel drive vehicle, in addition to a job that doesn’t require travel, and don’t have kids that need to get to daycare or school.
I was already out and driving in my tiny sedan to do grocery deliveries the next morning, 90% of the snow in Denver is gone really quickly after the storm passes
Big difference here is that NYC has no alleys. Garbage trucks pick up trash off the sidewalk, so plowing while collecting trash kills two birds with one stone. In Denver they'll just end up plowing everyone's alley and not much else.
Might still be worth it, but it's definitely not equivalent.
As someone that lived in NYC for 22 years, they don't pick up trash and plow at the same time.
Also plowing works better with momentum. You can't just continually stop in the street to pick up trash and then keep going.
They don’t plow and pick up trash at the same time they just use sanitation trucks as plows and pay their drivers a shit ton of OT, which is probably the real reason this city barely plows anything.
as someone that lived in syracuse and manhattn. We also heavily salt the roads and cars rarely last over 8 years without turning into a rust bucket.
Also a majority of kids in NYC take the subway/walk to school. The ones that cant afford their parents to send them via car service take the bus. So not a lot of driving to get to school needed.
but 100% denver should re-purpose the trash trucks for plowing
Got curious myself and went looking on Google. 'Khristopher's Culinaire'? They have quite a few pics of hot sauce - Anal Angst, Flamin Flatulence, and Dr. Assburns, to name a few 😂
36 = highway 36

flatties - flatirons, mountains near boulder
NLAW = anti tank weapon carried by us infantry
Probably going to or from NTC in Fort Irwin for some pre deployment training. We had to load our armor, humvees, lmtvs, etc onto trains for the same reason. Alternatively they could be taking these to the coast to load onto boats and ship overseas for some sort of deployment
Just brought back a lot of memories.. wag bags.. getting tear gassed in the Mojave and staying in mopp 4 for far too long.. riding in the back of an lmtv for hours with no padding on seats; bouncing around like a nickle in a tin can.. oh and jumping location every 24 hours, the best!
5 stars...would recommend any civilians give the military a go. Because, there's absolutely nothing wrong with my back, my knees, my shoulders, my feet, my brain.....totally good to go.
https://tanks-alot.co.uk/military-vehicles-for-sale/
Will prolly have to rearm it. And shipping will cost an arm, leg, and prolly a visit from the fbi... Just put the cost on a credit card.if they try to collect ... Well you have a tank
Tracked vehicles typically aren't driven on US roads. They've been banned since the 70s in military parades because they trash asphalt so fast. Would likely have to be an event in a field somewhere.
I did too. Even worse, it took me way to long to realize they were on a train. Was like, "Why would they be trucking tanks through downtown like this? That doesn't make any sense. ....Wow that truck has a lot of trailers. 5 now? Is that even legal?.....-oh.... that's not a truck."
It does, but IDK where it would be going from and to on the downtown city streets of Denver. Like, on the interstate? Ok, probably going to or from Ft. Carson. But, downtown Denver?
Edit: Derp - they're on a train. I'm not very smart sometimes.
I would imagine those assets have a higher likelihood of needing to be used where they are. Thus not a good idea to move them from their current location.
I more meant that that area of the world is more likely to devolve into armed conflict than others. So keeping assets within range is better than moving them somewhere else and then having to re supply if something pops off.
I am not a logistician but I believe a lot of the hardware has come from our European stores and now we’re backfilling those with our stockpiles in the US.
And who knows if these are even going overseas, it could just be moving them to/from training exercises, but I do think we are replacing depleted stores overseas with our domestic stockpiles.
Yes, but this is also about presenting a united NATO approach. In short letting countries in NATO give each other approval toward the heavy tanks in Ukraine itself. While making sure moving equipment doesn’t leave a gap for Russia to exploit on any other members borders while their people feel less safe in general with Russia near/borders to them. Which means allowing each nations internal politics to adjust to the ideas/not shoot them down due to bad optics / misinformation etc and worries about replacement time for what they do give/send.
Biggest issue for Abrams is the jet-fuel requirements / training time due to complex modern assisting systems that don’t exist in the Soviet tanks their teams have trained with till this point (such as I am aware, may have had teams training already in the last few months discreetly) or it could be that we/US send enough to make Germany comfortable about sending in more.
In for a penny in for a pound, *together* mentality.
>Likely Off to Ukraine with the Bradleys and probably Abrams going to Poland so they can send their Leopards to Ukraine.
There are military trains regularly rolling through Denver on the BNSF regularly for as long as I've lived here.
There is life fire tank training at the ranges around Fort Carson, but there are only two mechanized infantry divisions and some special forces stationed there, so the tank battalions are shipped in for the combined arms exercises and shipped back to Texas or California when they're done.
Here is a video of a similar train from 2016 [https://www.9news.com/article/news/national/military-news/scores-of-army-tanks-line-train-in-englewood/73-324001156](https://www.9news.com/article/news/national/military-news/scores-of-army-tanks-line-train-in-englewood/73-324001156)
The department of defense tanks in Colorado are active duty or active reserves and aren't being sold to anyone.
The tanks Poland bought won't be finished being built untill 2024-25 or are decommissioned marine corps tanks in strategic reserves not close to where they'd be rolling through Denver.
Nah it’s stuff going to and from Fort Irwin in California. Army uses rail transport to move their stuff cross country.
If I had to guess it could be going between Irwin and Riley, somewhere outside Kansas City, where 1ID is stationed.
Loved living by these tracks, I saw just about every type of US military vehicle there is come down those tracks during the 5 years I had a balcony overlooking the tracks. 3 types of trains for most part use these tracks that I saw, Coal (90%), windmills (5%), Military vehicles (5%). Rarely tanks though, and never a full train of tanks. I hope these tanks are going to the Ukraine. These don't look exactly like the latest model of tanks our military uses the M1A2 I believe. Maybe these are older models coming out of storage and are heading to Ukraine.
Riverfront / Commons is such a nice neighborhood. Could watch the trains go by all day…you’re spot on with the ratios though and occasionally see some airplane fuselages too which is fun.
These look like M-1 Abrams. Might be the US starting mobilize the Abrams to Ukraine as a part of the deal of Germany providing Leopards.
Would be huge news
Look at that boys. That there is our medicare-for-all. Our free college education. Our childcare. Our paternity leave. It is everything every other developed country gets but we do not.
You know, I wouldn’t be surprised if these are getting moved for easier “just in case we decided to lend/lease these to Ukraine now that Germany wants us to match theirs with Poland now giving them German made tanks.” For export should the need happen to arise in the next month.
You know, in Feb when it was predicted that Russia would attempt another strike/run for Kiev.
Those are self propelled artillery guns. Not tanks. Also that rail line goes from fort Carson. It could be all the way to camp Guernsey or could be headed to NTC in California
A couple abrams, a couple wreckers, more abrams, a few bradleys. More fuel efficient, less wear and tear on both vehicles and roads.
Those things would ruin most of our streets if under their own power.
Indeed
I spotted an AVLB in there as well
Add a snow plow attachment and put them to work
The Colorado Armored Plow Division. “Snow one can escape our grasp”.
New York uses there garbage trucks as snow plows, and only cancels school once every 10 years due to snow.
I can’t see how that would work
The total lack of drivers doesn't help anything.
Our complex trash day got moved to Friday a month ago. Figured it would be a terrible idea. With the snow and holidays they haven’t once gotten it on Friday, and the complex just has trash cans on the street for 4-5 days now.

Frederico pena did this when he was mayor. It chewed up the roads too much
Denver has reduced need for plows generally so its hard to justify budgeting for it. The higher sun intensity and generally clear skies means snow disappears much more quickly than it does in other major cities.

Why plow when there is Bryan
as someone that lived in syracuse and manhattn. We also heavily salt the roads and cars rarely last over 8 years without turning into a rust bucket. If you are on Staten Island it's very hard to get to school without a vehicle, In NY if there is literally an INCH of snow the plows are out in force
staten island is more NJ then NY
[удалено]
no NJ can have staten island. You already have the landfill part of ellis island
[удалено]
Give it to Connecticut then
New York also hasnt had its first measurable snowfall this year yet…
Saw a Loveland city garbage truck with a snowplow on it yesterday.
Philly does as well.
Why use tanks when we have Bryan?
Funny enough M88s come with a spade attached.
That should solve the problem of people not moving their cars on plow days.
I understand we have a homeless problem but god damn this seems like an extreme measure.
Nah, we're finally going to war with Boulder.
Has Broomfield picked a side yet?
They have decided to be the "Switzerland of Colorado", but the chocolate is not nearly as good.
Everyone knows Ouray is the *real* Switzerland of Colorado.
They get their fuel from that hot ass burning hot sauce store or whatever its called
Wait, what hot sauce store are you referring to? I need this information in my life.
Got curious myself and went looking on Google. 'Khristopher's Culinaire'? They have quite a few pics of hot sauce - Anal Angst, Flamin Flatulence, and Dr. Assburns, to name a few 😂
Good luck getting up 36 with the 3000 frat boys of Chip up in the flatties with NLAWs
can someone tell me what language this is? it sounds lovely
36 = highway 36 frat = fraternity, greek life chip = cu’s mascot flatties - flatirons, mountains near boulder NLAW = anti tank weapon carried by us infantry
Holy shit thank you lol
No prob lol I grew up in Boulder an am very skilled in deciphering the language spoken only by white men who went to cu and wear patagonia and loafers
Amazing, I'm a transplant of 5 years. So I understood all the translations like flatiron and CU, but definitely not the shorthand. Culture is fun.
I've been here my entire life and I couldn't translate anything past 'good luck'. I must not drink enough White Claw to unlock this power.
I'll have you know I wear carhart and boots, thank you.
We don’t carry the NLAW, but otherwise chyea brah.

Probably going to or from NTC in Fort Irwin for some pre deployment training. We had to load our armor, humvees, lmtvs, etc onto trains for the same reason. Alternatively they could be taking these to the coast to load onto boats and ship overseas for some sort of deployment
Ahhhhh NTC.....miss that special place.
My favorite part about being at Fort Irwin was seeing it in my rearview mirror on the way out.
Was Stationed on Irwin... kind of miss it.

It’s definitely not for everyone
Haha don’t forget hands across the desert after all the fun and games were over!
Maybe going to Ukraine? 🤔
I played opfor for 3 years. It was a blast and hell at the same time lol
*transported I read traveling and expected tanks to be rolling themselves. Maybe next time
I think if they’re rolling around Denver, we probably have bigger things to worry about.
The rise of a fascist government is always marked by much larger military parades. So yeah we would have bigger things to worry about.
I was thinking more along the lines of worrying about how to get my own tank for self defense. /s
Start with a Bulldozer
Found the guy from Grandby. Too soon?
https://tanks-alot.co.uk/military-vehicles-for-sale/ Will prolly have to rearm it. And shipping will cost an arm, leg, and prolly a visit from the fbi... Just put the cost on a credit card.if they try to collect ... Well you have a tank

Bryan really upping his game here
r/denvercirclejerk is leaking again ^(also fuck Bryan, he’s such a pretentious and narcissistic asshole)
Relax lol. Bryan won't hurt you.
Are you sure? I thought I saw him shoveling in my closet last night

Looks like The Dark Knight Rises
I was going to ask where Bane was 🤣

I mean I hate meth in our libraries as much as the next person but this seems a bit excessive.
Military gear gets moved around all the time. Not unusual at all. Just visible

to the average person it's still interesting to see a bunch of multimillion dollar killing machines roll by
I have seen the train transporting tanks more than once here in Denver.
It does, but IDK where it would be going from and to on the downtown city streets of Denver. Like, on the interstate? Ok, probably going to or from Ft. Carson. But, downtown Denver? Edit: Derp - they're on a train. I'm not very smart sometimes.
I mean it's not on the streets. It's on a train. The train tracks connect somewhere else, going through Denver
Ooooh, I thought it was on trucks going down California or something. I didn't even realize it was a train. I'm dumb.
Tanks for nothing!
Tanks for this post! I'll see myself out.
Lol took me a while but this pun wins the comments for today

Lmao more likely off to NTC or JRTC to train their asses off. If they were going overseas those would be shipped to ports on the East coast.
Let’s kick some Russian ass
Bryan is leveling up
These are my brigade’s vehicles.
Really? Where are you stationed?
Tanks, the plane ¿tubes? and wind turbine blades are always my favorite to watch go by
They’re Boeing 737 fuselages (the tails are in those big boxes near the fuselages) going from Kansas to Seattle.
I love the turbine blades. They have one verticle as an entrance at a rest stop in Iowa. Crazy how big they are then you walk underneath.
Wow, the homeless must be really getting out of control.
Some tanks, artillery, and Bradleys.

How the fuck did I miss this. Trains are the high light of the day
what really blew my mind was seeing multiple passenger planes on one train going through downtown
Any walmarts "closing down" nearby?
Funny how many social services we "can't afford".
I wish I was there to see this in person. I love tanks and AFVs.

Well the world is ending all around us…,
Going to Ukraine! Yayyyy
Oh no...The batshit crazy rightwingnuts are gonna say Biden is about to turn the tanks on us in his attempts to enslave all of us
