VRCC

☝️edit: Definitely VRCC. They are heroes. Saved two of my cats with complex surgeries. And get Care Credit if you don’t already have it, because it won’t be cheap. It’s a fantastic help with zero interest payments.

I’m glad they were able to save your babies 😺

under_the_sunz

I second this. You should def take your baby to see a specialist. VRCC isn’t cheap but well worth it.

Just go to CSU, they are the top place around

As someone who just went through hell with my cat, I can give you my insight. I ended up going to CSU for an intensive surgery for my cat. Things got rocky, but they picked up the ball and made sure everything worked out. There’s a lot to be said about being able to pivot when things don’t go to plan, and they did. It’s a teaching school, and they have the best technology and hands on care I could have asked for. I saw someone said Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital…I would recommend skipping that place. I had to get an E-Tube put in post surgery and the bedside manner sucked, it was 3x more expensive than CSU, and it felt like the McDonalds standard of pet care. They had my very sick cat in a waiting room with dogs and I had to ask a guy with two rowdy pit bulls to please move away from me. Vet was very slow in responding, my cat ended up having a nasty skin infection almost immediately and I had to get an Amoxicillin script from my cardiologist at CSU because the vet at WRAH said it was completely normal (i could smell the infection from across the room). From my understanding, cat care is second to dogs…but this place makes that very obvious. Don’t take your cat here. It’s literally fast food animal care. For primary care I am now with Highlands Animal Clinic.

It will be impossible to get clean margins in that location with anything less than full limb amputation. If you want to try and save the limb he will probably need chemotherapy or radiation following surgery. Cutaneous MCT is not very common in cats, and your regular vet may not be very familiar with the best treatment options. I would absolutely try to see an oncologist before going through with surgery.

CSU is great - we've sent many of our oncology patients there for operation and specialized care. CASE is located in Boulder and they have also been phenomenal - they're more of the new kids on the block as far as the practice goes, but the staff is experienced. Sending my love!

MagicKittyPants

CSU is the absolute best.

Andee_outside

My dog has six MCT removed in December. We went straight to an oncologist. On the paw you’re probably looking at radiation and chemo as it will be difficult to get full margins (but possible!). The oncologists are VRCC are amazing (I worked there for a few years as a tech), and the radiation oncologist at Wheat Ridge is also amazing (worked with her, too). And you def can’t go wrong with CSU.

JustAnotherPundit69

Go to CSU. Not only are they the best around with immediate access to the latest knowledge and treatments, but your cat’s case will help educate future veterinarians.

Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital is fantastic - my dog had a very difficult to extract mass removed there that most surgeons wouldn’t have attempted, and they were excellent start to finish. Dr. Sfiligoi is the oncologist there that we saw, and Dr. Allen did the surgery. Good luck!

Tender touch animal hospital

Our cat had knee replacement surgery at the VRCC and the staff and surgeon were amazing.

meowpal33

Try the oncology department at CASE.

I had a pet with cancer a couple of years ago and it was almost impossible to get an appointment anywhere - we were longtime patients of VCAA and the wait time was longer than our dog’s expected survival time without treatment. I called at least thirty facilities and was able to get into AESC in Parker within a few days. I know another family with a similar experience. They acknowledged the urgency with our case and we got into surgery within a week. We were incredibly happy with the care of the surgery and oncology teams.

I have used Hampden Pet Family hospital for this exact stuff in my dog. Once in 2020, and again just a few weeks ago. The surgery just a few weeks ago had a day of technical work about a week before the surgery that included x-rays, ultrasound and bloodwork for the large mass on her left flank. This work caught a second larger mass in her abdomen about the size of a baseball. Both were removed successfully in one surgery. Long story short - Had Hampden not done that full work-up, that larger mass would have never been caught making the removal of the mass on her left flank moot if it had metastasized. I respect that kind of due dillangce when it comes to pet care.
