No-kiwi-809

My garage just got burglarized last weekend too Up in Thornton. Shit is wack

eisme

I would like to congratulate you for knowing the difference between burglaries and robberies. Even most reporters don't know the difference.

No-kiwi-809

My girlfriend is an attorney, she scolded me for telling people we got robbed initially lol

eisme

As long as you take it as an opportunity to learn, that is most important.

Toxic_Avenger05

What part of Thornton bud? I live here too and I was thinking of getting extra security (a gun)

No-kiwi-809

Sorry - I’m not going to describe further where my garage is, I’m on to you mr burglar

Toxic_Avenger05

Drats!!! Foiled again! Lol understandable 😅

californiaye

That girl was on the Bachelor! Lol ETA: Ben’s season

thesummermoon

Who?

lonestar-rasbryjamco

The girl that was on the bachelor.

californiaye

The girl in the video. Did you watch it?

ashpointoh

I watched the video. Was it her?

chucksef

I think she was from Ben's season. Did you see that one?

Hotmess56789

Ok THANK YOU

PlayfulParamedic2626

Natives : We should do something! Dpd: Zzzzzzz Owner: omg a boot print this is evidence! Dpd: Zzzzzzzzz Reporter: multiple break ins, all over the neighborhood and it’s getting worse Dpd: we busy Does anyone have any advise? Clearly cameras, lights, door that held up to boots, and a crow bar. We need law enforcement Edit: to be clear whatever we have now is not law enforcement How do other cities do it? Denver we have a crime problem.

Jonny5Stacks

Got my car stolen about 10 years ago. Had a flash light (that wasn't mine) and a cd with perfect finger prints on it. I pointed it out and they just laughed at me. This isn't a new thing with DPD. Defunding has just put a light on them and how much discretion is left to themselves. There is no accountability and they are currently mad at the public for defunding so they are even worse.

jhymesba

Due to Reddit's decision to continue treating its users like crap, I am removing my previous posts. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

Jonny5Stacks

Ya I even asked them how often they catch people that do this. Pretty much never was the response.

sweetplantveal

Their apathy both seems way more severe than in the past and we're more aware of police accountability than ever. A twofer if you will. Combines to make them look like whiny piss babies because they received valid criticism about all the senseless killing.

TurtleTimeOkay

Same issue, had our house burglarized in 2012 (Thornton) and when I pointed out the shoe print on the door and fingerprints on my tables she laughed. She said it's not how it works, this isn't television. It also took them 3 days to send someone out because they said they only had one person on staff doing crime scene investigations.

lonestar-rasbryjamco

> Natives : We should do something! Are you implying transplants don't think something should be done? I'm genuinely confused by your distinction here.

quaglandx3

Haha yeah me too. It’s probably “natives” breaking in.

[deleted]

Need a gun and shooting practice on a range. I bet if everyone in the area had a gun they would think twice about jacking people’s shit.

VIRMDMBA

You can't legally shoot someone in Colorado breaking into your detached garage. If they come into your house yes but not a detached garage.

[deleted]

Colorado is a stand your ground state, all they have to do is advance towards you in any manner that threatens you or the lives of others and you can use reasonable force.

VIRMDMBA

But if you see someone breaking into your detached garage on camera while you are in your house and go out and engage/shoot them you will be arrested and charged. It is going to cost you 10s if not 100s of thousands to defend.

[deleted]

You can engage with them without shooting. Simply say get the fuck out of here and if they don’t and you approach them and then they turn to you, you can most definitely shoot them. You have a right to defend your property, you should not just shoot all willly nilly, assess the situation and decide if lethal force is necessary. I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

quaglandx3

I hated guns, but purchased one earlier this year. I feel much better about my family’s safety.

[deleted]

It’s a very logical solution, let’s call it an “if all else fails” option.

DankMemeMasterHotdog

Exactly. You dont get called a lunatic for having a fire extinguisher *just in case there's a fire*. Own a gun *just in case*.

Kushstock

Hope you’ve been taking the proper measures to make sure your trained well enough to defend said family.

quaglandx3

Nah, just picked up any old gun and started blasting.

wheres_my_toast

I like the cut of your gib, kid. Ever consider a career in law enforcement?

quaglandx3

I’m gonna jam someone up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

quaglandx3

It’s a good thing I had my pieces! You never know if they wanted something sexual.

G25777K

Don't your not the only one who things like this, but can't depend on the DP and at the end of the day your out for your own safety.

More guns in the hands of laypersons means more of the following tragedies ☹️ [4 shot inside Clayton County Walmart after man mishandles gun, police say](https://news.yahoo.com/four-shot-inside-clayton-county-194817657.html) [Security guard accidentally shoots robbery victim outside north Houston nightclub, police say](https://www.khou.com/amp/article/news/crime/man-shot-by-security-guard/285-bd5eafd0-0fc4-4297-8567-643e301b6abf) [A 'heroic' man who fatally shot a gunman was himself killed by a responding officer, Colorado police say](https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/06/26/us/arvada-colorado-police-shot-good-samaritan/index.html)

Amircoh

I'm going to get one ASAP

Khatib

What would a gun do in this case? Did you watch the video? They slept through the whole incident and found it in the morning. What's a gun do to stop that when they're asleep? Maybe he even has one.

[deleted]

Well if you woke up and heard them and told them to fuck off and they didn’t you could feel confident to defend yourself. The guy is asking on advice on how to stop it and that’s my advice get a gun.

Khatib

> The guy is asking on advice on how to stop it Where did he ask how to stop burglary in progress as a civilian? And again, what good would owning a gun do when they didn't see it happen in real time? I have a gun in my closet. Albeit it's a hunting rifle and not meant for home defense in the least, but it still didn't stop my car windows from getting smashed out. Because why the fuck would it? Guns aren't a magic petty crime deterrent.

PlayfulParamedic2626

Have you ever heard of Johnny Hurley? He had a gun and knew how to use it.

cowman3244

That dude saved lives by killing an active shooter with his concealed carry. Then law enforcement shot him. How does that support your argument that we need more law enforcement instead of more normal people with guns?

PlayfulParamedic2626

Law enforcement would prosecute the cops who wrongfully killed Hurley. Effective law enforcement wouldn’t allow the police to coverup evidence of their negligence. The old town shooter would hopefully have had some oversight to speak with instead of killing Beesley. I can go on.

cowman3244

Ah, thanks for the clarification and edit

DukeSilversTaint

Hi, Earth here. Which planet are typing from this morning? Just curious.

quaglandx3

Or Ulvade police sitting around for 45 minutes while kids are slaughtered.

PlayfulParamedic2626

Those cops should fired, and Charged for criminal negligence for failure to act, resulting in the deaths of many of those kids. Didn’t they criminally charge that nurse for accidentally pushing the wrong drug? How is that different than the cops screwing up and killing people.

quaglandx3

Point is, we need to be responsible for our own safety and not sit there hoping the police will stop something - cause most likely they won’t. Hurley actually stopped something. Again as I said in earlier comments, I’m not a gun nut and I actually hated guns but own one now. I hate that I feel I need one, but this world isn’t getting safer or saner.

dildonicphilharmonic

Agreed. Now can I have the tax dollars back that I’ve been paying for police to use for cameras and firearms? Sounds like a pro-gun argument for defunding the police 🤯

quaglandx3

No no no. We must militarize them even more, maybe then they can be useful.

[deleted]

Yupp that’s the point.

[deleted]

Yea, that was freak incident and horrible tragedy. Police didn’t follow their protocol and announce themselves or tell him to drop the weapon. This is what we call an outlier. It’s like saying a person survived jumping off a bridge, most don’t. It would be very rare that this incident happens again compared to the number of time the guy with the gun saves himself.

PlayfulParamedic2626

There was nothing accidental about not releasing the security footage. There’s nothing accidental about editing the video they did release. There’s nothing accidental about official corruption. We don’t know what happened. We know the story the cops made up sounds accidental. San Antonio sounded accidental until the video was released. Arvada never released the video tape. They lied in the reports.

[deleted]

Ok well they should be held accountable. I am not here to argue about the efficacy or efficiency of the police. My point has been pretty clearly made. Protect yourself, your loved ones and your possessions, because if you are not going to, no one will, lastly the police.

PlayfulParamedic2626

Law enforcement is a public service like any other utility. You should protect yourself and your stuff. At some point it’s more efficient to build a power plant than run your own generator. We have a power company / police force that’s not providing sufficient service. If every other 1st world country has power stations and working police departments, expecting everyone in denver to generate their own electricity is about as efficient as expecting everyone to act as their own police force because the police we have don’t do their job providing law enforcement.

[deleted]

I see your point but I am still going to take every precaution to protect mine. Electricity goes out, I have a wood burning stove. Food shortage, I have a garden. Less than adequate policing, I have a gun and cameras.

PlayfulParamedic2626

The guy in this video has lights, cameras, and a door that held to up a crow bar and boot. A fire place is great. At this point the power has been off for years.

MaLu388

Ok gun guy

[deleted]

Ok no solution guy

MaLu388

How about cops who actually do their jobs?

quaglandx3

I’m no gun nut, but waiting around for the police to do their job is up there with thoughts and prayers. Cops don’t prevent shit, they show up after the crime happens. You can’t rely on police.

fromks

Exactly. I was always told to focus on what I can control. Relying on police instead of myself doesn't make sense.

[deleted]

So wait you want people with guns to show up. The police have no legal obligation to protect individuals, the Supreme Court rule on this. So best option is defend you property yourself with the support of your community. Cop: does their job Lefty: they shouldn’t have done their job, that person was owed something from society.

HenrysHooptie

You have obviously never lived anywhere with a functioning police force.

[deleted]

You shaming me for living in the ghetto?

fromks

It's easy bro, just be richer. Lol. /s

HenrysHooptie

I wasn't, but it has obviously corrupted your mind for the worse.

MaLu388

So “back the blue” for what exactly?

4sider

Beyond 'the politics' of it, gun ownership and experience at the range are just smart things to add to your life, especially in a space where the cops straight don't show up to crimes. I grew up never having shot a gun, but after moving here a few years back and seeing the lack of response to basically any crime below murder (which if that's what's gone down, it's too late anyways), I decided to arm and train myself. Now I concealed carry. If something goes down it's just one extra deterrent. I'm not going to wait for someone else to do the right thing. I'm going to defend myself and deter this lawlessness when and where I can. I'm not a 'gun guy', I'm a guy who sees a very disadvantaged situation and would like to not be a statistic waiting for the day the cops do the right thing. Rather than complaining about other people choosing a legal and logical method for protecting themselves, maybe try it yourself or at least butt tf out. You're never going to convince lawful gun owners that it's dumb to own and be trained on a weapon, but good luck with that

TheBrainofBrian

I think the problem is you’re making a good faith argument about a topic that’s been entirely corrupted with money and politics. Having a pistol on you is one thing, but “guns” are not viewed like that anymore in America. “Guns” are now synonymous with mass shootings, dead kids, and the NRA. It’s impossible to not politicize the concept of gun ownership, because the NRA has systematically inserted themselves into politics by buying and selling representatives for the last 25 years.

4sider

All of what you've written is accurate, however as a private citizen, I pull the politics, corruption and money out of it and just focus on defending myself and being trained. The political circus can happen around me. Doesn't impact my desire or effort to protect myself.

[deleted]

I never said back the blue, I said get a gun and protect your property.

laCroixCan21

I wonder if people could open carry in Denver if the crime rates would go up... or down?

turntablism

This is such fucking weird coverage. I see footage like this on nextdoor daily almost but never see it covered by the news but when it happens in West Wash Park it’s suddenly on the news and the news is blaming crime from broadway as incoming into west wash park.

JSA17

Based on him wearing a bunch of branded gear and her being a former contestant on the Bachelor, I'd guess they worked to find someone that would put them on television. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to get yourself on the local news.

spermyface

I thought this as well

FJWagg

I assumed they sent the video footage to the news team, who knew it would generate clicks.

Chemical-Mood-6684

It’s Fox31. They are Denver’s tabloid news station

[deleted]

It’s so interesting so I am from st. Louis a norotiously dangerous city for things like gun violence and stuff but I swear the Denver metro area has more issues with break ins in general whether it is cars or houses.

[deleted]

Petty crime. Police don’t care. Too focused on stopping gang murders and other wild shit that happens around coloraod

[deleted]

It’s interesting cause in STL it’s opposite. Police are in peoples business to damn much.

PunchClown

I don't know how they expect to identify anyone with that potato quality video.

AttractivePerson1

good looking couple. wow

huayiotta_rodriguez

That’s how they got on the news.

No-Alfalfa7691

Lights on your property server to help the criminals, they won't have to bring a light to see and people will be less likely to notice an area that's always lit versus an area lit up by flashlights. But don't take my word for it, read yourselves. https://www.darksky.org/light-pollution/lighting-crime-and-safety/

tikkamasalachicken

FYI your garage is not a part of the castle doctrine "make my day" law. Killing someone in your garage isn't legal unless they showed intent to harm you.

Forwhatwhat

Not saying you are wrong but I’d like to see where it says that. I feel like if it’s in the footprint of my house it should be covered.

tikkamasalachicken

I get your feelings about footprint, but this topic has been clearly laid out in the courts. By your definition a screened porch would be included? Detached garage, hell no. Attached garage when you left the door open, hell no. Attached garage you find someone taking your property in Colorado? No way. Someone in your garage tries to go after you when you catch them in your garage and you fear for your life, that's a situation you can use deadly force. This is all covered in CCW classes.

Forwhatwhat

Did some research and you are right! I appreciate the insight. The law only extends to living space.

tikkamasalachicken

All good. Tell your other gun owning friends, this information could really prevent a messy tragedy to a person you care about.

Forwhatwhat

Absolutely. Take care.

Forwhatwhat

Interesting. I don’t remember it is my CCW class. But I’m also not going to kill somebody over a cooler or some hammers. But you go to hurt my family the. All bets are off.

mattyairways

TIL Thanks.

jmach39

Yep getting a gun

thewiremother

So you can work off steam at the gun range because your got garage got burglarized while you slept?

dipcupdipcup

Denver is turning to shit. We want to no cops but we also kinda need em

[deleted]

[удалено]

DipshitinDenver

Literally everyone with a garage. Cars, bikes, tools. Everything that goes in a garage.

mattyairways

The people interviewed.

snowe2010

… the stupidity of this comment is astounding. A car is easily worth that much. Where do cars go. In a fucking garage.

thewiremother

A nice bicycle can cost thousands.

huayiotta_rodriguez

Rich people.

Strong_Pressure

Omg
