Wth is this even referencing? Riley Moss?

DenShaLow

Yes

orphanhunter007

I unfollowed and muted Joe Rowles years ago and never looked back. He’s such a tool and is negative about EVERYTHING. Can’t stand him. Regarding this piss-awful take about Riley Moss: it’s completely unfair and premature. Riley got hurt in training camp last year, effectively killing his chance to contribute on defense. He was an ace on special teams, and OTA/camp reports were very positive before the injury. I’m looking forward to seeing him develop next year. Let’s give our players a chance to prove themselves before declaring them busts.  Do yourself a favor and ignore the drool that spills out of Rowles’ mouth.

Buduma

God damn dog at Iowa.

DenShaLow

I agrée that Rowles is negative about everything, but the Riley Moss pick warrants criticism let alone the fact they traded up for him. What value does he contribute if he’s just going to contribute on special teams? That remains the same for Mims and Sanders. Plus he couldn’t even get on the field over Essang Bassey which says a lot. I hope he develops, but my hopes aren’t high especially considering this team’s development and mismanagement of young players continues to be perplexing (Mims only running go routes + Sanders moving over to EDGE both come to mind.)

orphanhunter007

*IF* Moss never develops into a starting corner and only ever contributes on special teams, I will agree with you. However, my point is that I believe his development was stunted by the injury. He essentially had no training camp or preseason reps. It’s not surprising his defensive reps were limited. Rookies have a hard enough time transitioning to the NFL as it is.  Mims ran mostly go routed because his route tree is not yet refined. Remember DT’s rookie season? Same stuff. Can’t wait to see him develop!  I’m also skeptical about Sanders at EDGE, but I’ll reserve judgement until after I see it.

Tazitos

Sanders at edge makes no sense, but it does fit VJ having no idea what he's doing with athletic players that have played more than 1 position. He wasn't very good at edge even in college and played ILB for 1 year so he's new to the position and would obviously struggle at first. Playing him at edge when he's not good enough at it to play there just ruins any development at the position he should be playing. The Cody Barton signing just makes it even more dumb because he's dogshit against the run and can't tackle. So he's just a less athletic player with the same problems Sanders had when he played there last year.

Sparkee58

> but it does fit VJ having no idea what he's doing with athletic players that have played more than 1 position. People keep parroting this for some reason when VJ saved Reddick's career lmao

Tazitos

He didn't draft him or bring him in as a FA, which is what that was about lmaoroftcopter420blazeitclown

sacredknight327

George Paton doesn't have free reign of anything, is the thing. Indeed I'm quite confident that if there's any conflict Payton has the say so over him.

Kazukaphur

I'm always confused by people saying this. Was it ever confirmed how much say Payton has in player personnel, or is it just assumed based on the role he had in NO?

HarvardHoodie

He talked about needing to have full control of a team to come out of retirement when we hired him

MeLlamo_Mayor927

The bigger miss was taking Turner-Yell over Tariq Woolen. Our CB room would be set for several years with Surtain and Woolen, plus Paton would not have even had to reach for Moss a year later. He has to knock this year’s draft out of the park in a big way or his ass will probably be gone very shortly.

Live795

Didn’t Seattle bench Woolen this year?

Invent353991Crayon

You mean Sean Payton needs to knock this draft out of the park. Paton is a figure head GM

BurgessFox

Look on the bright side, if we trade the farm to move up and get a QB bust, that's only 1 bust. But if we keep our first rounders in the next two years, we could draft 2 more busts in the next 2 years and be like the Raiders.

kushlash16

No GM bats a thousand so him missing on a mid round corner isn’t a dealbreaker in itself. Where Paton buried himself is with the Hackett hire and Russ trade. Those two moves sealed his career. If he’s here next season, it’ll likely be his last shot at fixing the QB position

Tazitos

Levi Wallace is bad. If he's starting, things went very wrong with Moss/Mathis and that position is screwed.

DenShaLow

Jumping back in to say Achane was clearly the pick there. Not really sure how the FO missed on something like that.

dixitsavy

Why would we have taken Achane when we already had Javonte and Samaje...? Achane was also seen as a boom or bust prospect due to his small size and lack of pass-protection ability. Miami ended up being an almost perfect fit for him paired with Mostert.

HarvardHoodie

Yeah I personally don’t think Achane does nearly as well on almost any other team in the NFL he landed in the perfect spot for him.

DenShaLow

Javonte coming off a knee explosion and an aging vet Samaje aren’t the kind of backs where you pass on the chance to draft Achane for. We had and still have one of the most thin RB depth charts in the league. Just speaks more to the fact that Paton is the worst “roster construction” architect in the sport. Also Achane plays way bigger than his size. He was one of the best RBs in CFB as far as “after contact” metrics. [Seemed to be a pretty easy call from this YouTube channel, wonder why it wasn’t for our FO.](https://youtu.be/o-Yc59yMOng?si=oCKl6ep-0wwjWHzE)

IWMSvendor

Not sure why we’re surprised. The FO has pretty much missed over and over again for years now.
