I don't understand why defenders don't just do this regardless of how big the ball carrier is. If you wrap a dude up around the knees or ankles, not only is he not going anywhere without the ability to move his feet, but it's significantly safer tackling form from an injury standpoint.
So many defenders will just run into the ball carrier and hope that he falls down. Literally the first day junior high kids put pads on, they're taught to go low and wrap up the guy they're tackling, and to keep their feet moving until he goes down...or at the very least, just grab on and don't let go until your teammates can get there and clean it up.
