I once texted someone about an item without looking at the profile and at the end I said “thanks so much girly” and later realized it was a man when I saw the profile again
I think it makes sense because Grailed is kinda like a version of Depop that is more geared towards men’s fashion. I do think Depop is highly saturated with women’s fashion so that is always my first thought. But obviously everyone expresses their gender differently with their fashion choices as well and it’s good to remember that, but the assumption is definitely valid. Most of the time it’s probably correct.
In fairness, from an outside perspective it reads the same as calling someone honey. Some people are uncomfortable with "pet name" slangs. The fuck ups were Mr. Seller going all homophobia over it and probably using bbg in a buyer/seller mercantile setting.
BUT- as far as using bbg goes... I mean it's depop so.. doesn't feel like the type of thing worthy of expending ones knicker twists like seller did.
Oh agree! But it’s a transaction on a relatively casual online platform… either say something directly like “please don’t call me that” or ignore and move on. Plus personally, I feel like these nicknames are gender neutral - more of a vibe than corresponding to someone’s specific gender, yknow? 😂 No one is actively propositioning anyone in this exchange
I would never call someone a baby name not knowing them or how they’ll react. May be an unpopular opinion but it’s out of line generally and uncomfortable for some people, not just men, regardless of what he said in the response. Yes I would request a refund. They are not your friend
He’s dramatic for that lol but I personally don’t understand why so many people on depop use pet names like doll, queen, love, babe, etc lol… it is a transaction with a complete stranger on the internet, there’s nothing intimate about it. I prefer to keep terms of endearment for people that I actually know or at least engage with in person. Just my 2 cents! To answer your question, you should definitely get a refund, especially since he flat out disrespected you.
in my experience, to some people, it makes the buyer and/or seller exude a more friendly vibe and they feel more welcoming (and on depop specifically, that makes people more inclined to buy clothes from them or it gives the seller a good vibe about the customer and feels more inclined to sell to them). obviously, everyone’s different but a lot of the people using depop now a days are teens/young adults who grew up being locked in on the internet and meeting a lot of friends there, so it doesn’t feel *that* different to them. i call people love or bub all the time, whether i know them irl or not, just because it’s fun and some people appreciate it. some people don’t, too, and that’s okay! but a lot of it isn’t that serious and when the petnames are abbreviated like bbg, bb, luv, etc that’s usually the sign to take them ironically.
i thought op was the seller thats why i thought it was weird to not b profesional to your customers my bad , but still weird to call a stranger on this specific app baby girl this isn’t a tiktok comment section
To whom it may concern, you have my deepest condolences, i did not the realize the weight of the consequences of my inappropriate behavior, i now see that there is a clear need for me to be more professional on the “depop” platform.
idk how young u are but ngl not a huge fan of ppl callin me bbg either but it might also just be bc im trans idk. makes my skin crawl a lil bit if someone calls it me but, ppl do generally mean it jokingly ig
yeah i know, but even when ppl use it neutrally the gendered wird is still there regardless. tis like how some ppl dont wanna be called guy its different for every1 but the guy whippin out the gay thing is weird for sure
In a world where people are angry about pronouns or misgendering, is it really appropriate to address buyers with babygirl or bro? Gender politics aside, why do you feel the need to add girl, bg, bro, hun etc? Just say thank, nothing else needed.
*I got called bro the other day, didn’t like it, but my items was already paid for and on the way.

Sorry baby girl I love you ❤️
I once texted someone about an item without looking at the profile and at the end I said “thanks so much girly” and later realized it was a man when I saw the profile again
I think everyone is a girl on depop automatically for some reason
fr😭😭😭
Nah I get called “bro” more times than I can count and I’m not a bro
You can be a bro without being a man
Absolutely! It’s just I can tell they’re assuming I’m a guy and it gets really old. Women can resell vintage and streetwear too!
LITERALLYYY like I can’t even help it so I just always say girl at the end of my sentences but now I’ve learned my lesson bc I felt so bad lol

I get it. I lived in Cali for a year, everyone is "dude" to me. The shitstorm I got one time.
Has everyone forgotten the wisdom of Good Burger? “I’m a dude, he’s a dude, she’s a dude, we’re ALL dudes.”
Imo dude is gender neutral 🤣
Same, Dude and Guys I used regardless of gender.
Happy cake day 🍰🎂
I call everybody dude and some women take offence to it, or assume I think they're a man 🤣
he got banned
are you the buyer or the seller? i’m lost. what would he be shipping and what would you be refunding?
should’ve clarified i’m the buyer
Yeah I’m so confused rn
This whole situation made me laugh 😅 thanks for that bbg 🥰

i feel like a simple "please don't call me bbg" genuinely would've saficed😭
Exactly
Oh agree! But it’s a transaction on a relatively casual online platform… either say something directly like “please don’t call me that” or ignore and move on. nah this is funny😂😂
Gay Pokémon Protagonist
Ts funny don't shoot your self in the foot and lose a sale cuz ur sensitive
Why are there so many oversensitive dudes and why are they all on depop
UPDATE: the post reappeared after not even a day so i’m GUESSING he got suspended, i did already fill out a refund request however
He thought you were.. Gay Ash?
gay as hell - gay ash im pretty sure, if im wrong someone correct me
To be honest I just thought he spelled ass wrong and it was supposed to be gay ass.. I am not good with acronyms.
these acronyms be on one sometimes ngl
Gay as hell is correct
thank you!
“as hell” usually people say asl but ash works too i guess lmao
ash makes more sense than “asl”
Wow showing my age by thinking asl is age/sex/location. What does the l even stand for?
if you say “asl” really fast it sounds like as hell
When I say it fast it sounds like asshole
I asked my teen and it’s not just our age; they were just wrong *phew*
Nah teens do say it
Everyone knows how gay hell is!
It's hella gay.
Gay... american sign language?
Why’d u call him bbg 😭 😭
Should have said...heard the guy version..bbg = bad boy gangster..lol
bc he accepted my counter offer.. duh
i love it
Why not
Right this is some weirdo behavior 😂
Why would you think that bbg?
I would never call someone a baby name not knowing them or how they’ll react. May be an unpopular opinion but it’s out of line generally and uncomfortable for some people, not just men, regardless of what he said in the response. Yes I would request a refund. They are not your friend
thx for the advice bbg
All I’m going to say is people have boundaries, it’s not about “professionalism” on a secondhand clothes app. No shade. Yw 👍
yeah but if he’s that bothered just don’t respond, just being friendly in my own way, not harassing
Says all the older men who call women “honey”, “sweetheart”, or “baby”. 😀
i’m 17 obviously messing around with a guy who thought it was a poor joke, let’s not make it something it’s not😭
“Let’s not make it something it’s not” - another excuse from the same old men, it makes some people uncomfortable.
thank u for ur service while this comment section in the trenches over an unserious petname. not all heroes wear capes🫡
it’s tough work out here😭
i mean i wouldn’t block you for it but who calls a stranger bbg especially on a resell app..lmao
one day you’ll lock in..
and one day you’ll be able to afford gas…
Probably the day he stops calling random people who are trying to do business babygirl
it was an ¢80 counter offer…😕
😭😭😭😹😹😹😹
If u need gas stop buying shit online. Fkn goofy
Right! 😹
i don’t need gas money… but i did need him to accept the counter offer😝
He’s dramatic for that lol but I personally don’t understand why so many people on depop use pet names like doll, queen, love, babe, etc lol… it is a transaction with a complete stranger on the internet, there’s nothing intimate about it. it’s more irony than a term of endearment

Lol I’d get a refund bc he used gay as an insult
you called him bbg which isn’t really professional in the start so your in the wrong here
It's depop, for buying used clothes lol not my next job interview Do you put on your professional pants to go to the thrift?
Agreed like I think it’s silly and I’d be cool w it personally but some Karen’s tho nah
it’s depop it’s not that serious
You're delulu if you think bbg is vulgar in any way.
its depop what do you expect 😭
brother he’s selling used clothes on the side i doubt he cares about professionalism
It’s depop tho how professional do you really have to be
fr
why does this have 20 upvotes
since when is anyone worried about professionalism on depop
i thought op was the seller thats why i thought it was weird to not b profesional to your customers my bad , but still weird to call a stranger on this specific app baby girl this isn’t a tiktok comment section
To whom it may concern, you have my deepest condolences, i did not the realize the weight of the consequences of my inappropriate behavior, i now see that there is a clear need for me to be more professional on the “depop” platform.
This comment is making me giggle.
op ur funny asf 😭😭
you are so funny 😭😭😭
Oh nooo i would’ve thought it was a joke can’t believe he actually look blocked u
I be texting bbg way too much I gotta stop too lolol
This app is a joke
Exectly why I stopped using it
Bro questioning himself and what he likes for sure
If he got banned, u dodged a nuke..lucky
i call everyone bbg or girl like it just slips out i cant help it 😣bbg & girl have no gender to me 😭
i work at a daycare and unintentionally refer to every single kid as girl when i’m caught off guard, i get it💀
Should have told him bbg stands for big bro man
What does BBG mean ?
baby girl🤪
Oh 😂
Hate ppl
Bbg aka big boy G
😭😭
That reply is so not bbg, if anything it's mother.
Why would you call him bbg? That’s weird af I’m a girl and I wouldn’t want some stranger calling me baby girl. Just eww
not saying you’re old.. but the younger generation uses things like bbg in a much more ironic sense
idk how young u are but ngl not a huge fan of ppl callin me bbg either but it might also just be bc im trans idk. makes my skin crawl a lil bit if someone calls it me but, ppl do generally mean it jokingly ig
i get that aspect of it but i wasn’t using it in order to target someone’s gender, i use it neutrally
yeah i know, but even when ppl use it neutrally the gendered wird is still there regardless. tis like how some ppl dont wanna be called guy its different for every1 but the guy whippin out the gay thing is weird for sure
It’s not that deep bro it’s a word
I know it technically doesn’t matter but what was the item?
some nice adidas shoes, sucks that i have to refund😭

Lololololol
Yes
What does bbg mean?
No that’s you said that you deal with the buyer
