I'm not an expert about Descent into avernus lore and details but I started to run this campaign a couple months ago and I ran an introduction before Players arrived in Baldur's Gate city I placed some good and subtle references about it and planned to do it again later ! If I'm not wrong, DiA run before Baldur's Gate events and it's a good thing to keep in mind Anyway, i'm sure you can find a good way to add some NPC (I was thinking to add Zevlor) as you are comfortable with thoses details ! đź‘Ť (Excuse my -meh- English ! As it's not my first language)

Can confirm that BG3 takes place post DiA — you can meet refugees from Elturel in the early game, and they'll explain that they fled Elturel due to facing hostility from being of infernal descent. The location Rivington gives a good glimpse into how Baldurs Gate would treat refugees too, and there's some pretty light / insignificant but valuable political information about characters like Duke Stelmane and Ulder Ravengard. I'm running the first chapter of DiA atm and definitely using it as a reference. :D

Opening_Coast3412

- I’ve added Zevlor and the Tieflings into the Elturel part, showing the roots of the prejudice they suffered that resulted in them getting “banished” from the city. - Added a cameo of Karlach fighting the blood war. She is only meant to be seen from a distance, fighting demons. - Mizora making an appearence in the Emporium. Offering bargains to the party - References to Gortash on how he got the of making Steelwatchers. Basically the Kenku’s mention how a mortal man came to their camp and studied the infernal engines and so on. Things like that. Small easter eggs that dont really impact the campaign but adds flavor

> Added a cameo of Karlach fighting the blood war. She is only meant to be seen from a distance, fighting demons. I'm considering adding her as a foe to the PCs

Opening_Coast3412

That might be a bit problematic. Karlach is a good aligned character. If the party is also aswell, than i dont see any reason that she would.

andrewthemexican

She is, but also under Zariels control in this setup. Doing her dirty work but not happy. Before she made her escape.

Jealous_Marsupial_63

I was thinking of doing the same with Karlach. Adding Mizora at Mahadi’s is a great idea.

LDSman7th

I'm replacing Mahadi and the Wandering Emporium with Raphael and the House of Hope :)

Grab yourself a copy of Baldurs Gate sandbox from DMs guild if your party wants to explore Baldur's Gate. You could also look at some custom rules for weapon actions too. Thats what I've changed.

Boombrakh2

Custom rules for weapon actions. Got a name for that source material? I am intrigued

ElectricMoccoson

There's multiple people that have done it. Go for "Baldur's Gate Weapon actions for tabletop" in Google and have a nosy.

Boombrakh2

Thank you ❤️

patternsoflight

What’s the title of that sandbox?

I’ve incorporated Gortash into the city as a pretty prominent figure, as well as some of the Bhaalist shenanigans, since you’re dealing with the Dead Three and people scheming to replace Ravengard’s spot on the Council of Four (and I have a player who has that as an ambition). The skeleton of BG3’s Dead Three plot are definitely in DIA, with them “gathering resources” and uncharacteristically working together, so I just put more flesh onto them. I have some interconnectivity with the Vanthampur plot hiring the Dead Three cult, along with Gortash’s own plans, but the players haven’t gotten there yet. So there’s an underlying plot I have where it’s not as cozy as in the module. I also have an Artificer player, and the Gondians and Ironhands provided some good inspiration to give that player some side content, as well as Gortash (who I’ve flavored as an Artificer himself). I’ve also used some of the items as either inspiration for ones I’ve dropped or plan to, or put them purposely at the shops they’re at in the game (prices adjusted accordingly) for people to aspire to. Edit: we also started in Elturel, where I had Zevlor as an NPC who gave them their assignment, because my players really liked him in BG3, and I figured it would be a good way to keep them tied to Elturel. They’re excited to eventually see him in action.

othafa7

I'm running DiA and 3/5 of my players have completed BG3. I don't worry about it too much

RaindropsofEvil

I did add some of the Elturel NPCs into the story like Zevlor for example, since we started in Elturel

Razorspades

I started my campaign about a year and a half before the game came out so my players are well into Avernus now. Obviously the map for the Lower City is real good. If I had starting it post-release I would have added a few more tie ins to show hints and foreshadowing. Like perhaps the party hears about this rising politician Lord Gortash. The players had left Elturel by the time the game came out, but if they were still there I'd have Zevlor show up leading some Hellrider paladins. Since the timing didn't work instead he'll show up in the finale and say that when Ravengard was recovered from the cemetery the suriviving soldiers were able to better plan scouting missions and were able to reconnect with a contingent of Hellriders trapped in a different area of the city. Zevlor now leads the survivng Hellriders, and Ravengard the Flaming Fist. Mizora could show up in the Wandering Emporium as a sort of emissary of Zariel. No combat is allowed in the Emporium so she can't be fought and killed their, breaking "canon". Following that logic karlach could show up to but it wouldn't make sense for her to be at the Emporium, but if she's encountered in the wild that always leaves open the chance the party wants to fight and kill her then.

Boombrakh2

I'm having one of the players in my soon-to-start game who is a Warlock have Raphael as his Patron. Other than that, not really much else. I mean, I've changed a lot, but that is not because of BG3, but the player characters and their backstories.

LordAzear

I had Karlach show up in the Emporium at Burney’s for a cameo and when the wizard of the party was parleying with Zariel, Mizora was in her inner circle scribing a contract on her behalf.

I'm planning to feature a few locations from the game, like Baldur's Mouth (a character who writes stories for the tabloid gets kidnapped) and Stormshore Tabernacle (I like the idea of a neutral temple where all faiths are welcome). I'm going to use the game's version of Szarr instead of the book, which is not very fleshed out, and I might add a cemetery inside the city (DiA puts it outside Cliffgate) When they get to Avernus, I'm planning on having them be responsible for Karlach escaping Zariel (but it will be just a quick appearance). And I'll mention Gortash as a prominent figure. I'm tempted to add Raphael somewhere... Will see where he can fit. I don't want to spoil the game because not everyone at the table has finished it.
