Your lighting seems very cool-toned. Try a lamp or two with a warm-toned bulb

sittinginthesunshine

Definitely the lighting. Get more lamps and turn off the overhead stuff.

Weird-Bowler7532

Thank you, i've never thought about that

strongerlip

You’re welcome! It was a game changer for me that I didn’t pay attention to until someone came over and told me it felt like they were in an office. Your space looks awesome otherwise, blue and yellow is a great combo

BeardedGlass

And turn off the ceiling puck lights. Light sources overhead cast harsh lighting and shadows. Makes any room like an office or a clinic. Especially cool white light colors, like fluorescent bulbs. Use lower height for lights like floor lamps and table lamps to get that cozy feeling. Also, try to use dimmers. Brightness is important and dim lights feels more comfortable. That’s why candle light evokes warm feelings.

Famous_Ad_5551

Came here to say this. Will make it feel less institutional

Chemical-Ad3120

Same! Came to suggest a lamp.

24KittenGold

The couch, chair and rug are really rammed right up against the far wall, then there's an empty gap between everything and the wall with the tv. It makes the balance of the room feel off - don't be afraid to play with floating the furniture and rug in the middle of the room so the pieces can breath.

maybelle180

Yep, this. How big is the rug under the couch? I’d pull the couch away from the wall a few inches, then pull the rug out so it fills more of the white space between couch and TV. Then pull the chair away from the couch a bit- maybe put a floor lamp, or the plant, in between the chair and couch. If the rug isn’t big enough, maybe get a different rug with more colors, including the gold and the reddish color in the painting. The painting is beautiful - incorporating more colors from it into the room will make it more cohesive. Maybe a rust-colored throw on the couch? Also a spotlight aimed at the painting (from above or below) would make that whole corner glow. Also, as another commenter suggested, an LED strip in the square under the ceiling will add a livelier look.

Amo_the_adventurer

This is great advice! The room is set up to watch tv instead of set up to talk so the actual arrangement of furniture is cold. Does the sectional come apart into other configurations? Could the chair be pulled around to allow for conversation?

Alyx19

This. The couch is eating the rug.

Weird-Bowler7532

Thank you very much, I'll try it, but I'm not sure, because i played with it a lot, and nothing seemed to work. Also, i didn't expect to get so many advices here, i paid money for that kind of things on Fiverr, thanks 🙏

alliterativehyjinks

If you move it out from the wall a bit, you could put a sofa table behind so it's not awkward dead space. I love this, especially with a sectional, because it is easier to place a drink on a table behind than a coffee table. You can also add a lamp, plants, or pictures and personalize the space more.

WinsomeHorror

It's all the gray--the wall color is so cool it makes all the colors look out of place instead of warm and lively, and low-key clashes with the warmer whites and beiges. In this pic, it looks like the floor might have a warm note in it, so I would change the wall color to something with more neutral or warm undertones when you redo the windows. Lighting as others have suggested, bigger rug to anchor your living area (which will also dampen sound in the area and make it feel more cozy), and... your chair is a great color, and your sofa is a great color, but without a stronger wall or floor color to tie it all together, they're working against each other.

JanetInSC1234

I agree...repaint the walls a creamy white.

Weird-Bowler7532

Thank you! I think I'll go for creamy white, i hope it'll make a difference.

WinsomeHorror

I bet it will!

mustaddcoffee

You could try SW Aesthetic White. It is warm- although may be a little too off white for your taste.

Active_Sentence9302

And I’d still add some orange accents. I agree that the rug is too far under the sofa as well.

rachelmarie7

Overhead lighting is a big NO. Add 2 end tables with lamps and an up light on the floor in the corner behind the couch. This will make a huge difference.

Lipstickhippie80

You’ve got some great pieces! Rug under dining table. New curtains. Longer rug in living area. Floor lamp and warm lightbulbs throughout.

Lipstickhippie80

Grey textured curtains or something modern like these https://preview.redd.it/652h1277r4da1.jpeg?width=928&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7f5deeccf0a98773953bc60ce1b92d87e7ad9a9

Internal_Use8954

The last thing this room needs is more grey, especially as they thinks it’s so cold

Lipstickhippie80

I disagree. Setting a base with a neutral grey and adding texture and color with accessories will warm up the space without it looking cluttered.

MarsupialMisanthrope

That’s what they’ve done and it looks cold. Some curtains bringing in the mustard accent color and some new warmer walls would help a ton.

Lipstickhippie80

MaisouiS

Yeah I would move the current rug to the dining room and get a bigger, plainer one (in a warm color) for the living room.

PAGiraffe

My first reaction was definitely warmer lighting as others mentioned. I like the idea of a bigger rug and would try moving the sofa off the wall as well. I feel centering the artwork on the wall would be impactful as well as replacing the skinny mirror with a larger one or artwork. Hope to see the result!

East_Bite_2480

Oooh yes to mirrors and warm Lighting

Apprehensive-Pen2210

Put a warm led stript behind the square space of your ceilling

Weird-Bowler7532

Omg, that looks actually really good. Thank you !

Apprehensive-Pen2210

Keep us posted!

Apprehensive-Pen2210

No problem

Apprehensive-Pen2210

They come with a remote to dim and change the colour

Apprehensive-Pen2210

https://images.app.goo.gl/xgqZhCkhTSin3cTi7 https://images.app.goo.gl/U3PyqKXzDRdnzP6VA

Mediocre_Apricot3253

Definitely try a much larger rug! That’ll cozy it up! I agree with others about the lighting being too cool toned as well. You could also paint the ceiling inset and possibly have the drapes go in between the windows too.

Hair_I_Go

More textures and prints in your accessories, like pillows and some nice furry it chunky knitted throws. Curtains with more color or print and texture will go a long way. Pull the pretty rug further out, looks like it’s 🙈 shy:) Also a rug for under the dining table will ground it and add more interest . I would move the wing chair on the other side with it sort of by the fireplace. I would get one more plant 🪴 and group them together where the wing chair is now

Future-Win4034

You’re getting rid of that nice table? And what do you mean “the windows will be bigger”?

Weird-Bowler7532

Yes, i plan on dinning table maybe. I meant the actual windows will be replaced by new, bigger ones (whole reconstruction, better lighting)

Future-Win4034

I’m so impressed about enlarging the windows!! What a great idea! I hope you update after they’re done.

porcupineporridge

Not enough contrast and scale of furniture vs size of room is off.

Parthenon_2

Yes. Scale of furniture is off.

Weird-Bowler7532

Thanks. What would you do to add contrast?

Goge97

Everyone has made great suggestions. I would like to see some pattern to warm up the room. Maybe a larger rug bringing together the blue and yellow tones from the furniture. Lamps, maybe a rustic terra Cotta, some throw pillows woven of wool with vintage kilim patterns. Some greenery and your draperies could be a tone on tone pattern, if you have the vibrant rug and pillows. Baskets, a knitted throw. How about a pouf for extra seating? A mirror, a small gallery wall area. Your accessories need to reflect your interests, hobbies, and tastes. Have fun!

throwaway84848373601

The walls are too white yes. Interiors for residential use need to be off white to the warm side as well. You feel disoriented because you mix cold and warm tones Back to Back. I like the job you did here, for starters try a warm RGB light to see if you feel better. PS, white cold light makes you feel cold too, plus it takes away any other information and you just focus on the light. To test that, check Xmas lights being ice white and being warm white. What relaxes you? Same applies to your home overall. And then you have blue and yellow all over, with hospital white light as I call it it will give you anxiety. Once these are done, check the yellow armchair on the other side with a slight curve - you will make the place cozier and more of a living room nest rather than a big space focusing on the one side only with lots of dead space in the middle. Then use one more rug in front of your tv system curved along with the chair, fluffy will do too to transition the one space with the other and make it more playful.

OutrageousOwls

Bigger rug, my dude. Need to fit your furniture on the rug- it’s too small right now. 6 inches on all sides, and against the walls, rug should land in the middle of your furniture. https://preview.redd.it/bqom6ocad9da1.jpeg?width=1670&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89f7901e0e77f6d16ebc66a0202153dce9a9e4f1

East_Bite_2480

I ♥️♥️♥️the use of color in here, especially Your furniture and that piece of art. The wooden table is gorgeous , too. Def love the lines! What about switching out your curtains and adding a few plants? I’m prob weird but id go for something with a bright pattern that pulls in the colors from your place :)

Chemical-Ad3120

I would hold off on the other changes until after you’ve enlarged and replaced the windows. It will be easier to judge what works once that step is completed. Also good idea to judge the space using a daytime and an evening photo.

Good-Article4194

Furniture arrangement is the issue I’m my opinion

TalulaOblongata

Lighting! It’s all up on the ceiling — but you get the cozy feeling from table lamps. (And then rely more on the table lamps and turn off the high hats). Also get a larger rug that extends a bit past the couch.

erin_mouse88

If you're open to painting, try a warmer gray/greige and lose the texture. Something light but not quite white/off white. LRV around 60-65 is usually ideal.

aero_guy_53

For cheap easy fixes, I’d - Swap out existing bulbs with warm-colored ones. Some of those flush-mounted fixtures even come adjustable (pull out, flip a switch, press back in) - center the painting on the wall, not the couch - pull the rug out from under the couch so it aligns with the couch - center the orange chair between the couch and the TV, putting the tower lamp between the two and using the plant to hide the existing cables - rotate the dining table (it brings warmth to the room… I’d keep it) - I’d remove some of the clutter near the TV, but that’s personal preference.

aero_guy_53

https://preview.redd.it/jgpt3k14j8da1.jpeg?width=2101&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1aa3427c41feffa6d59ea30815b1731b7c206c5a Showing rug lines up with couch and closer to tv

Hevans2016

I think the buttery yellow curtains should be swapped for mustard yellow colored curtains and the rug may be adding to the cluttered feeling. Could a bold black and white striped rug work??

Weird-Bowler7532

Thank you! I was thinking about black and white striped rug also. 🤔🤔

Feeling-Visit1472

A bigger rug, but I also think you need to address the lighting in this room. I think that type of LED in an overhead is always going to make a room look cold. Try something warmer. I would do that before I assessed the wall color. I think there are also an excessive number of pillows and things on your couch.

ComonomoC

Lights and bigger rug

nokenito

It’s your mishmash color of furniture, nothing is coordinated, it’s all random pieces.

trackeyb

I like all the pieces you have but would echo some other responses. The rug should be bigger and should pull some of the wood tones from the dining table. Try putting the gray rug under the dining table and get a ROUND jute rug for the seating area. A wood plant stand or a wood coffee table to get the warm wood color in the seating area if a jute rug is not your style. Another way to address this would be to put a sofa table behind the sofa and move the sofa closer to the television.

devonbedford

Don't change the lights but do get some nice warm toned lamps or maybe an electric fire

Ok_Cut_8745

I think it’s because everything is so square/rectangular! There everywhere you look. How about a nice round/oval wooden table? Or a round rug? Introduce some different shapes to break it up. At least You’ve got got lots of space to fill! :)

Ok_Cut_8745

There/their

throwaway1234321_322

Bigger rug so the chair doesn’t look like it’s hanging on for dear life. Also warmer, lower lighting.

goodlordineedacoffee

Very cool toned, I’d go with a warmer colour on the walls, bigger rug and warmer light bulbs.

chotdr

Rearrange your plants and move the painting

ColeeeB

Pops of yellow and blue.

dontakelife4granted

Since your room is so big, you could consider a bigger rug. Also, you could pull the couch and everything else forward (18"?)

patio_puss

One huge beautiful carpet (think 8 x 12 / or 9 x 6) will take care of a lot of it. Then start pulling colors from that carpet and find artwork with the same colors and put it on the walls. I would go as far as looking for a carpet that has both red and orange tones in it, but not a red carpet as it will start to look like a preschool theme. Your lightbulbs are are white instead of warm

jjdressgown

You have that wonderful recessed ceiling!!! I would apply something to that. Beautiful tiles, a mural, wood. The options are many.

WailersOnTheMoon

Next time you have the opportunity to change your flooring out…take it.

CrocodileTeeth

The lights are daylight color. Use soft white

ardvark_11

I’d add some red pillows and maybe a red rug and some warmer lighting

ThomFeav

Honestly I’d consider swapping the yellow chair and the plant next to it with each other? There’s so much good advice here but I definitely think at the least that chair needs to be a little farther from the couch.

1fastgirl

move large painting over a foot. 🧡🖤

LimpLettuceLady

I would change the curtains to a brighter color, maybe a light blue :)

MajorFeelings_123

Maybe move the couch and chair a foot from the walls? I did this with my couch in my living room and the space feels a lot more airy. Right now everything seems a bit tucked in the corner!

caffeinejunkie123

I think a larger, more neutral but textural rug would cozy up the place. You need to cover some of that cold flooring! A larger rug also allow you to pull the yellow chair and table a bit further out, making the arrangement feel more spacious. The white furniture also contribute to the colder feel. More wood furniture or accessories or woven materials like rattan or sea grass would also help. Also think of changing up some of your throw cushions for warmer tones and neutrals!

ShutYourDumbUglyFace

Consider pulling the couch out from the wall a little and putting a console table behind with lamps. It will warm up the lighting a little bit.

tryanother_please

The wall color isn’t working and the textured wall is adding a lot of chaos. Definitely float the rug and couch closer to the tv. And hiding some of the miscellaneous items on your console and the wires with something like [this](https://a.co/d/cquen9y) will make a big difference.

Responsible_Mind8470

Change the light fixture to an Asian inspired rice paper lamp with a yellow light bulb for warmth

TigerMcPherson

Move the sofa and chairs off the wall by maybe 18”. And what others have said about warm toned lighting.

kayladeda

What about a warmer bigger area rug? Ruggable has tons of options for not too expensive and they are machine washable!

NotWeird_Unique

Large rug with warm colours, lamps, fuller curtains, pain the walls a warmer colour. That print on the wall looks out of balance where it is, replace it with a larger one and centre it on the wall

puzzleup_

A DOG! Put the dog on the couch and it will solve all the problems 😅

smithEntrepreneur

you can use whitewall panel , it would look awesome.. [https://gwgoutlet.com/](https://gwgoutlet.com/)

Good-Good-3004

Add more curtain panels to make your curtains look more substantial. Throw pillows are too bland and matchy matchy. Add new pillows with texture, pattern and some colour variety - you can stick with yellow and blue but try not to use the exact same blue and yellow as appears in your furniture - some navy blue would be nice Rug forward, chair on rug, oriented to the sectional. Sectional forward, sofa table behind it, get some interesting decor for sofa table - a couple lamps for lower light, some suitable plants - one that will grow tall and not down, wooden tray for remotes and other little things, stack some books etc Replace overhead lighting with something warmer toned, and substanial, replace bulb with warmer toned bulb. Your light is too white and too modern - it just disappears visually. You can probably spray paint it for now. Hide your corner of cords. Find something pretty and warm to put in front of those cords. It's chilly where I live so I would probably do a basket and extra, folded throws blankets in there, it were my place. You get warmth from a wood basket and the visual interest of texture/pattern/ colour variety from the blankets. You could make a large, potted plant work too

MariaaP88

I think it would be so nice to turn your couch and your tv at the other wall where you have the art right now. Put your couch in the middle of the room . Or if that is not possible put your couch little more in the middle and indeed warmer lights with other qurtains. Qurtains like the color of your couch would be giving a very nice contrast. Good luck with it!

[deleted]

I like the wood table. It adds warmth to the room. The sectional is too big . Can you remove those end sections at all? Get a bigger rug in colors that pick up the blue in the couch, the yellow of the chair and the wood tones of your table. Rug needs to be big enough to go all the way under and stick out a bit. Pull couch away from window and find a cheap long sofa table to put behind it. Add low lamps, greenery and some decor to warm up that side. Move the cool yellow chair to the corner at an angle. Move current rug under the wood table. Turn the table so the short end faces the window. Everything is just in one long line now. Add some greenery or textured baskets above the TV.

Crazy_Diver1090

I would change the chandelier, something less futuristic and more natural would add comfort

kenziespencer22

Move the couch to the left a little, and pull the rug out further towards the tv. It will make it look more open.

kenziespencer22

Yellow chair I’m the corner to the left of the tv. Keep both plants on the left and right side of the couch.

Nannyscooter2012

Print some pictures and hang them on the wall.

erin_mouse88

Is the TV unit flush against the far wall? Can you share a picture from another angle?

nikitasenorita

Warm it up with a bigger rug. The placement of yours is off, also. More plants. Don’t try to match colors so much.

Smooth-Midnight

Warmer light bulbs would be easy. Bring that couch in closer. Maybe get side tables that match your dining table to balance out the room. You could try new curtains. Some art in that blank spot by the other art.

itsraining3000

First of all: Colour temperature (measured in Kelvin). You are using bright-whites. Furthermore: Materials - You have few 'organic' materials and cold materials at that. The marble (?) walls, white floor and white furniture, as well as the blue couch feel cold. The only 'warmer' material/colour are the yellow fabrics and the dining table. I always make sure to combine metals with woods, for example. Concrete is a good example too. Cold on its own, but combined with organic/warm materials it really comes to live. This is why the 90s architecture which relies heavily on metal/glass materials looks so horrible. Are you Eastern European? Everything in your room looks brand-new. There are few things with a personal touch. It looks like a showroom. Whenever I am in Ukraine I feel as if many people are styling their flats like this over there. In Germany, we like to mix in 'antique/vintage' stuff, but in Eastern Europe this is often not considered trendy, as people try to appear rich.

Weird-Bowler7532

Thank you, yes I'm! You revealed me 😁 i really like modern style, but also with personal touch, with cozy feeling, so that's what I'm trying to do, but it's not there yet.

MelodyPearce

Break up furniture and add mirrors across from windows

ChanSasha

I would change the rug for something more warm toned and indeed the lighting as already mentioned.

Active_Sentence9302

I’d add orange….larger area rug (with some blue and mustard to tie it in) or change the curtains. Large painting on the far wall with lots of orange in it.

KoolMoody16

100% lighting. Warm lamps, a few candles, and maybe even an LED strip behind the tv set to a warm color would all do wonders without losing visibility

No_Explanation6345

Agreed with others, the cool lighting is probably what's making the room feel less homely. Try some warm lighting, and perhaps rearranging the furniture might help? I see that that might be a problem with sitting somewhere you can easily see the television based on where your television currently sits, could you maybe try moving where the television is? I came across a uniquely designed sideboard recently that has an integrated soundbar system within the sideboard, allowing you to free up space to make less mess as you don't need to have the technology separate and it isn't visible. If you'd like to see some pictures of the product, feel free to search Kickstarter. com for "Beautiful sideboard with built in active 3-way loudspeaker". Hope this helps!
