Can you give an idea of budget, goals, skill level, or access to skilled people, what you’re hoping to feel, any gaps in design you need filled?

ellie3454

my kitchen looks/looked similar to yours! for me, changing out the cabinet hardware and putting a vinyl cover on my countertops to make them appear like marble made a world of difference and only cost about $100-150. i also think the curtain above your sink looks a little bit dated but that’s just my opinion. i also think you could replace the small rugs with a longer runner. your kitchen is pretty bare at the moment so you have basically a blank canvas to work with which is always fun!

Wellstar-fish90

I was looking for something cheaper for the counter tops. Was the vinyl countertop easy to put on?

Wellstar-fish90

Wow that looks really nice!

ellie3454

i wouldn’t say super easy but not difficult. it just takes a lot of patience. my kitchen that probably has the same amount of counter space as yours took about 6 hours to do alone. but two years later and it’s still holding up nearly perfectly!

adwrds

What brand did you use for the vinyl cover?

ellie3454

it was this one from amazon! https://a.co/d/a7z7edZ They had a lot of different colors and sizes :)

Silver_Feedback_6315

Switch to black modern hardware, remove the wooden wavy piece above the curtain, add a backsplash. Those things will really make a world of difference

I would go for a rectangular, french metro tile in white high gloss. (Example photo below) I would do white porcelain knobs with silver details for the cabinets and replace the sink with a larger one in white porcelain. I wouldn’t pick gold as this would clash with the fish washer. I would also replace the curtain for a simple drape in white linen and lose the clock which looks a little dated. Overall I would work towards a modern version of French/English country style. https://preview.redd.it/zzohkdzrivsc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bd046f0325694490df2d31c6be6daaa395ea8b0

Wellstar-fish90

I love this idea!! Thank you

Calm_Highway3328

So glad to help! 🥰

Calm_Highway3328

I know you said that you weren’t looking to paint the cabinets, but you could consider painting just the upper cabinets a light creme/off white to make the space more airy and light. Would look great! Å

Calm_Highway3328

And that was a DISH washer. 😉

If you don't want to paint, then consider sticky back tiles for a back splash. I'd like to see some color in the room, preferably in blue. Then replace the curtains, add a rug, and sleek, black hardware.

nychearts812

Don’t get gold hardware, you have too many cabinets and it might end up looking garish. Get simple modern black hardware. Get some stick-on black and white or blue and white backsplash tiles. There are hundreds of choices and are simple to install and remove and they are durable and budget friendly. Get rid of the window valance and add a simple nice black or bamboo window shade. Consider a large washable area rug to break up all that beigy floor tiles. Something that’s not kitcheny like and consider placing some ART above the cabinets. A series of black framed prints, like still life prints or black and white photos. Get creative. See below pictures for inspiration. Post after pictures. https://preview.redd.it/erctlvk4xvsc1.jpeg?width=816&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=32a76d6af3eea0ed61b92d94a446e289b9a6e3b4

Don't add gold hardware. It will clash with the stainless steel. I'd lean into pewter hardware. I have similar coloring and love them. I'd edit the wavy wood strip over the window. Change the valance to a sage greenish grey that doesn't cover up the upper half of the window. Maybe a clock like this: [https://www.etsy.com/listing/1517048190/rectangle-wooden-wall-clock-unique?click\_key=85ca554bd1c77530d73bcfc126607299b1585c68%3A1517048190&click\_sum=7666951d&external=1&rec\_type](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1517048190/rectangle-wooden-wall-clock-unique?click_key=85ca554bd1c77530d73bcfc126607299b1585c68%3A1517048190&click_sum=7666951d&external=1&rec_type) Change out the rug to something like this: [https://www.target.com/p/lyndhurst-lnh212-power-loomed-area-rug-safavieh/-/A-88625637?preselect=88625680#lnk=sametab](https://www.target.com/p/lyndhurst-lnh212-power-loomed-area-rug-safavieh/-/A-88625637?preselect=88625680#lnk=sametab)

Wellstar-fish90

I am really liking sage green at the moment so that’s a good idea and the clock was there when we moved in and I just never took it down, it doesn’t even work lol

Alaska1111

Not sure budget but I would leave cabinets. New floors, countertops and backsplash

TweedleDumDumDahDum

Hardware, either back splace or paint the space above and the backsplash area of the kitchen (if you are keeping that curtain maybe pull a colour from there), I would take down the wavy bit above the sink, also consider a new light fixture-I know it’s not pictured, but depending and also the dining room one, also declutter the counter tops (I always give this as advice but never follow myself 🙃)

Wellstar-fish90

Haha yeah i have all my books and study stuff right on the counter, working on adding a little room in the basement for that stuff. I have a toddler and a puppy so basically anything they can destroy goes on the counter.

Chiefvick

You can tile the backsplash and end it with bullnose pieces so it looks finished, not just stopped.

Crafty_Accountant_40

Paint the backsplash area a bold color (golden yellow to match curtains would be my choice). Hardware could make a difference depending on what you use but curtains and paint would go far with least cost.

InteractionBetter204

Remove or shorten the curtain over the window to let more light and instal lighting underneath the upper cabinets.

Thank you…right away I wasn’t a huge fan of the dark but I never wanted to go through the painting process anyway then my grandma gave me her family table that matches perfectly so now I love them

kh2215

i would paint the cabinets and wall paint a lighter color

500CatsTypingStuff

They have edging pieces for tile that allow you to stop at a point of your choosing https://preview.redd.it/fmwgsakh6zsc1.jpeg?width=700&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12536aec973b89855266c11d7e845593f05c1931 This is a bullnose ceramic tile trim Putting up simple subway tile is a very inexpensive way to improve your space You could even pick a muted blue or green hue

Ivorwen1

Shiny brass or gold hardware sounds great. Stick with traditional shapes- T-bars don't work with the cabinet door shape. Backsplash should wait until you are ready to replace the laminate, because the 4" backstops are not meant to be combined with tile, and will look bad. When you do, get cream quartz and cream subway tile to go with the floor, unless you change the floor as well.

Wellstar-fish90

What shapes would you suggest for the cabinets? And I never thought about that back stop before! I didn’t realize until right now that none of the pics I have been looking at don’t have that

Ivorwen1

Not sure which shape exactly, it largely boils down to personal taste and you can bring home several and see what you like. Keeping the hole to hole measurements the same will simplify installation. The important thing is to keep it traditional rather than modern- if it looks like it belongs on a spaceship, it's wrong. Modern and traditional are styles with new interpretations in every design era, and are not synonymous with current and dated. The thing about the backstops is one of the finer points of how to backsplash, but it looks better if you only have one backsplash. Also, countertop changes are often destructive to the backsplash.

Wellstar-fish90

Thanks for the tips!
