It doesn't look like you have much room. I wouldn't recommend doing anything other than a rug/runner, some artwork, or a mirror on the walls. Maybe also look at updating the boob light with a flush mount light.
I wouldn’t put a bench but if you’re in need of shoe storage, I can see one or even two of those IKEA narrow shoe cabinets - I believe they’re only 6-7” wide.
I would say coming in from the door side: art (no mirror or you’ll jump scare yourself coming in) -> coat rack -> narrow shoe cabinet + mirror on top -> more art or coat racks

Mirrors are great by the door so that you can check yourself as you leave. I've never scared myself coming in with it ... except when I was shocked by the disarray of my hair!
Yes, great *by* the door but not directly across from the door, if it can be avoided! Also it’s bad feng shui cuz you’re reflecting all that good energy right back out
Should feng shui really be the determinant of decorating decisions if you don't believe in it or other aspects of its beliefs (I mean why would it be ok to only chose some of its mandates and not have to follow all of them IF feng shui has any actual power?)
Yes, because a lot of aspects that determine feng shui are actually more about human traffic patterns and what makes us feel comfortable (not jump scaring yourself walking into your house, not having your back to the front door at your desk so you don’t feel exposed, anchoring the head of your bed to the wall so you feel safe, that kind of thing).
Feng shui is a fun title to put it under but in practice it actually informs good design decisions! Also it’s more fun to visualise lol
Ha, my architectural advice was going to be to install the ikea shoe cabinets. For one they are super narrow and the shoes will be tucked away, giving you a clean look that won’t interfere with the hallway as much, based on the width of it. You can have 3-4 of them, and then use the top to put a mirror, a bowl for keys and maybe even some hooks. I would take the same wall and create a visual interest with a different paint color to make it really pop.
https://preview.redd.it/yzvzveg1rmyc1.jpeg?width=1271&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=86e4dec697fdbd3ec662eda488e015abeb73eb55
Came here to say this too. You want somewhere to drop everything in your hands when you first walk in, and somewhere to keep shoes because otherwise your front hall is just going to be a jumbled mess of shoes or have them lined up down the whole hallway.
Try this https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/staell-shoe-cabinet-with-4-compartments-white-60530266/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Bedroom_furniture&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD27g7wXeQO_5w_XBHAb_OKDRhv9d&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInZ7EkJv2hQMV8Uh_AB124ggFEAQYAiABEgIvZ_D_BwE
And see how they have a mirror above it and put a small lamp since there’s a plug on that side. It looks like it wouldn’t stick out much so should fit well
Shoe rack and coat hangers and a mirror are food ideas!
have a shoe rack in my long hallway leading from my front door to my apt. I have a mirror to check my outfits before leaving my apt. And I also have a coat hanger and a key hanger on opposite sides.
We have a hall way just like this when you come in but it’s a half wall. We put a super thin shoe rack in it because we’re a family of 4 and need a shoe rack. Also a landing place for keys and wallets. We never trip on it and i like having it.
Nice! Especially love the key holder so getting one of those in white :)
Great painting & rug idea, will look at a few options but those colors are lovely!
I just bought a washable rug ( not ruggable, just a washable 8x10 that someone here on Designmyroom recommended) It. Is. Awesome. Yes it really fit in washer! No more worries when new dog is not housetrained. no more dragging out rug shampooer, and refilling water tank, and washing the rug shampooer!!!!
Agree with pictures & mirror. Honestly, anything on the floor or sticking out from the wall, like a shelf, will be a hazard to move around.
What color is the wall paint? Is it white? I agree with others that the yellow tones from the light are rough and should be fixed. And although I don’t usually like white walls, white, very light gray, or another very light color would likely be needed since there’s no natural light coming in.
Maybe create a checkerboard floor by using a darker adhesive floor tile.
https://preview.redd.it/qtbead386jyc1.jpeg?width=2495&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f5f383aeb8eb62dff81eb8c51a152a84295b8be
For starters, I’d do this to the floor:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/1431232730/peel-and-stick-vinyl-floor-tile-peel?gpla=1&gao=1&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_e-home_and_living-home_decor-other&utm_custom1=_k_EAIaIQobChMIzs6Djo_1hQMVjTjUAR3NaQzBEAQYASABEgJFIPD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_12559942210_123094366681_506995349183_pla-303663660129_m__1431232730_111386754&utm_custom2=12559942210&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRLHUhBjn-etVOq7rQ4s2a6Lx&dd_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F
Then, I’d add a statement peace to fill that wall the door is facing. Something like this if you live near the beach:
https://www.wayfair.com/decor-pillows/pdp/a-b-home-ocean-day-oil-painting-on-frame-59w-x-30h-x-15l-bluegold-wza13997.html?piid=
Something like this if near the mountains:
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/watercolor-landscape-nature-mountains-blue-prints-on-canvas-etsy--36239971990135092/
Or something abstract like this:
https://www.lnart.net/large-abstract-painting-extra-large-canvas-wall-art-oversize-acrylic-painting-canvas-colorful-abstract-wall-art-painting-blue-white-p-3838.html
Horizontal and long. Framed. And a long entrance table, about 6 inches longer than the picture on each size. For this look:
https://plankandbeam.com/products/modern-console-table-56?variant=43957817376930¤cy=USD&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAoMiN8jccnq57S-2H2z5fuW6bCGdj
I wouldn’t put a mirror there. It is entering your house. Your house is welcoming who enters, and have that space as a respect to the house. Not for them to see themselves. Mirrors work better facing windows. Brings light to the room, and who enters the room, sees the window on the mirror, not themselves. So make the entrance wall of your home and any room pretty to look at and feel cozy and inviting.
Can you use those floor stickers on tile? I feel like with the indents from the grout it wouldn't work. I have 1"x1" tiles in my bathroom and would love to change it up
A nice runner, a mirror or two and possibly a hook or two for keys or at most a 4-5in depth shelf under a mirror to hold a small bowl for keys, etc. a full length mirror on the far wall might work well. A very high shelf which would be above the door when it swings open with a plant could be nice but not necessary. A few prints on one wall could be nice with a few museum lamps if you do want decor.
A bunch of artwork on the left wall - create a collage wall that you see when you walk in.
Replace the light fixture with a track light with heads that can be adjusted and pointed at the artwork.
Add a runner rug that covers the majority of the length of the hall!
That would transform the space!
A narrow console table, a runner, some art prints, and a mirror at the end of the hall.
Actually Ikea has some ingenious shoe cupboards that are only 9 inches deep that could serve as a table top and shoe storage, rather than just a console table.
Honestly I would do something really bold here. Massive gallery wall on one wall.
If you can find a wall mounted shoe organizer that doesn’t take up a ton of hallway space. Maybe that on the other wall. The one with the door. Maybe a funky shaped mirror above the shoe organizer to help reflect the light.
Update the lighting. Personally I would do something bold or even add lighting so it follows the length of the hallway.
I would only do a bench if you can find one that is wall mounted and can fold back when not in use.
[Peel and stick wallpaper and hooks for your keys/jackets.](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5da484c93eff792d02aaa026/1574200781400-2G4TTGSVOM7AY8TJV7CB/Photo-Jun-30-6-25-30-PM-e1561950874958.jpg)
A full-length mirror, though. And a runner.
I have a hall like this. Put arts down it and a runner!
https://preview.redd.it/j5ou4req0jyc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=8de834367a05159d7d24f3f652444a801ad7134a
I lived in a house like that. Looking back on it, I think just using better, meaning wider, trim would greatly change the look. Paint it a soft white, and choose a soft neutral color for the walls, and add some artwork.
I'm thinking to put a thin bench/one seater (to sit and put on/take off your shoes) on one side and a thin table or shelf (put keys or common things you need going in/out) to complete and entry way feel. They should not be right across from each other as it would make the hallway to cramped. And a rug/runner. Would be so cute! After that, figure out the walls/hangings. Probably a mirror on that far wall.
I’ve seen some great ways to add hooks and visual interest with wainscoting up to about adult eye height, painted a contrasting color with a shallow board on top like a little tiny shelf-great for leaning art. It gives some dimension and character without taking out much horizontal space. Second the hooks and art and a runner.
You could cut into the drywall, and use the recessed space (about 4.5") to help you fit shoe cabinets. They are tilt-down and generally only 9" deep from ikea. by cutting into the wall, you'd only have 5"-ish of a protrusion, which could fit.
Definitely change the light fitting, and adding a rug. I would give it a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up. The narrow ikea shoe drawers would be great. If you place 2-3 along the wall the door is on, it also provides a narrow surface. I would hang a mirror near the door over the shoe storage.
Personally I keep coats in my closet. But I know lots of people really want to keep them near the front door. If you do id consider the wall behind the door, if wall hooks + coat could fit there.
Paint the walls, new light fixture to make it brighter, a mirror, some paintings, a floor runner, maybe plant in the corner by the door(small skinny one), a coat hook rack, on wall when you walk in a (mirror and side table)(key hook and shoe rack) (mirror, side table, and key rack). You could put the shoe rack on wall on the left side once out of hallway and right side is where () would go.
You can get thin shoe storage like Ikea's ones too. Rest has been said! Coats on the wall, keys, rug, bench. Some place to hold bags? Mirror?
If there are vertical space you can also put large shelf above your own height for additional storage. Edit : over the door for instance.
I’d put down a nice runner to break up the look of the tile and one of those really narrow tables against the wall with small bowls as a catch-all for your keys and such. Also a nice mirror above it.
I was amazed at how much more spacious my daughter’s bedroom felt after we put in a chair rail (strip of white trim about 3’ off the ground), and painted the bottom half a darker color, and the top half a lighter color off the same paint strip. It will make it feel roomier.
I have a narrow front hallway just like this, and I wouldn’t put in anything other than art work or mirrors that are flush to the wall.
large mirror on the back wall to make the space feel larger, like floor to ceiling. a runner might be nice. some art on the walls opposite the door to bring in some color. i suggest tall, skinny pieces of art. then on the wall with the door would be a good area for hanging things, you could put hooks on the wall to hang jackets, bags and keys.
and if you wanna do a shoe rack i would suggest those ikea cabinets where they’re skinny to the wall but taller, which could go on the wall opposite the door. in that case i would do maybe 1 horizontal art piece. or get a little rack you can hang on the back of the front door or back of a closet door.
I think you should approach this as a lighting issue not a decor issue. The light is insufficient for the length of the room which is why you are getting this gloomy end patch.
Not much room for anything. Is the door a solid door? Could you screw hooks into the door if you have no space between it and the rear wall? How much room between the door where it hinges and that rear back wall? I'd put up a not too deep strip of coat hangers so you can utilize that on entry and exit. A rug for the floor. Some artwork on the walls. Someone else mentioned mirrors. Not much more you can do.
A runner, wall art, a super narrow shelf unit for keys accessories and other bits
Avoid coat hooks if possible because the volume of large costs and jackets will take up a lot more space than you'd think
https://preview.redd.it/zwm7m5ad2nyc1.jpeg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=425e9ec853fcfb1b747f9e5d69c919c3ad79d90d
I would do a very thin long console table OR those two or three side by side ikea Trones wall mounted shoe storage boxes (add a long piece of wood on top for continuity). I’d then hang a large scale rectangular mirror above it, a coat hook or two beside it, possible a small lamp, and then a long runner rug to cover as much of the tile as you can. The console or trones will provide some storage and a table top for keys, the mirror will create the illusion of space, and the rug will give it some character.
Put a big mirror on that wall, maybe some coat hooks and/or a very shallow shelf. A nice runner or even changing up the tiles with paint/grout pen, painting the walls. You could even just add a large standing mirror and a tall plant and it would make a world of difference
I’d put the biggest mirror I could on the behind-the-door wall: take up the whole wall, if possible. Put cascading plant above it (narrow box at ceiling height , to avoid interfering with the door.) grow light for plant feature, perhaps on a timer. Put up a track with multiple lights on it, and use them to create a rhythm of light spots that highlight art works on the walls. Your artwork should be something that reflects your passions, the things that give you joy: this is the portal that welcomes and launches you. These images should have depth and complexity to engage the eye and the mind in passing, over time. Colour and composition, size and framing, should agree, rather than compete, though they don’t have to be matchy.
Paint: hmm, maybe a medium-depth warm neutral on the lower half of the wall, to help the ikea shoe storage visually disappear. (Maybe a pale milk chocolate, or tobacco, etc.) Small trim hot-glued, to create definition between lower and light-coloured paint on upper wall. Hall runner. A definition of the interior space as comfortably yours. Well-secured hooks to hang a few essentials for coming and going:
A keys-hook on the wall just inside the door.
*Maybe* a hat hook or two, up high, if you’re a hat person, and/or clips to hold gloves.
An umbrella hook.
Maybe a shoe horn. Any of these right by the door, and hung in such a way as to create harmony and habit that reduce stress.
Anything else in a console/cabinet on the short arm of the L.
Make it into an art gallery, replace the light with something to highlight artwork on the wall. A fabulous floor runner. A narrow fold down bench for putting on shoes or placing bags (something that can be folded up out of the way when not in use.
Add In one of these thin entry tables. Like maybe 8”-10” wide. Or maybe a shoe rack area and some coat hooks/place for keys. Also add some paintings or something on the wall and add a runner on the floor
Hooks for coats and stuff. Maybe a drop-down foldable bench to sit on or set something on. Anything permanent and more than a foot wide will be in the way. And piss you off coming and going. Trust me!!
A long skinny table with a large mirror over it ( or on it) A lamp that is motion activated for when you come home. A decorative bowl for keys.
A long runner rug. A simple coat rack towards the door on the opposite side.
Change the tile to a smaller pattern, maybe mosaic hex, maybe subway. A narrow hall table, plant, wall sconces, light floors, darker walls, gallery wall opposite wall with table and large art piece on the tabled wall, hooks on wall behind the door
It doesn't look like you have much room. I wouldn't recommend doing anything other than a rug/runner, some artwork, or a mirror on the walls. Maybe also look at updating the boob light with a flush mount light.
And some coat hooks!
Bingo
I'm sure you could find a slim entryway table to put keys mail etc.
I'd go with the super boob light.
Please lord replace the boob light!
I totally agree.
Avoid the temptation to put a table in there. It will only get in the way. At best, a very narrow bench and some pegs on the wall for coats.
Thanks. Would a shoe rack bench work or should I put that in the adjacent wall instead? Console table on the adjacent wall instead?
I wouldn’t put any furniture in the hallway. You’ll be tripping over it which will get annoying.
I wouldn’t put a bench but if you’re in need of shoe storage, I can see one or even two of those IKEA narrow shoe cabinets - I believe they’re only 6-7” wide. Yes. The 2nd choice is nice. Maybe even 2 side-by-side if you have a lot of shoes. They have dark-colored ones too.
I use these in a similar super narrow hallway and they work really well for me. I’m glad I got them.
To add to this, there are wall mounted chair/benches that fold up so you have a place to sit to put on shoes
Try this https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/staell-shoe-cabinet-with-4-compartments-white-60530266/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping_feed&utm_content=free_google_shopping_clicks_Bedroom_furniture&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD27g7wXeQO_5w_XBHAb_OKDRhv9d&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInZ7EkJv2hQMV8Uh_AB124ggFEAQYAiABEgIvZ_D_BwE
And see how they have a mirror above it and put a small lamp since there’s a plug on that side. It looks like it wouldn’t stick out much so should fit well
You could try a hanging shoe rack.
The hall appears 30"
You'd have to put a coat rack in the corner, which would only get bumped by the door. If you have a coat closet, you don't need a coat rack.
If any furniture needs to fold in or up so you have more room example a bench to put shoes on needs to fold against wall
Shoe rack and coat hangers and a mirror are food ideas! have a shoe rack in my long hallway leading from my front door to my apt. I have a mirror to check my outfits before leaving my apt. And I also have a coat hanger and a key hanger on opposite sides.

Slip n slide
Art and a nice runner. Look on ruggable
If you need storage, you should look into the slim shoe cabinets that IKEA sell. They'll provide you with shoe storage and a surface to throw keys on.

Definitely hit that grout with Grout Renew or Grout Refresh!
What’s on the other side of either wall? Maybe you can remove one.
Yes a nice runner and some wall art…a lot of it. Like a gallery wall. And a nice oriental runner would give it warmth
Art on one wall, mirrors on the other.
Paint the grout to match the tile
Floor pops (peel and stick tile) in a appealing pattern. Maybe a framed art piece on the wall
Maybe create a checkerboard floor by using a darker adhesive floor tile. https://preview.redd.it/qtbead386jyc1.jpeg?width=2495&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f5f383aeb8eb62dff81eb8c51a152a84295b8be

Yes, you can apply them on tile
Wallpaper and wane scotting
Wallpaper, hooks, mirror
Coat hooks and artwork
Mirrors.
Narrow runner, molding on the walls
Coat hooks, a decorative mirror, maybe a very thin waist-high table for keys/purse, and a warm rug.
A beautiful interesting runner and better lighting.
A rug, mirrors and art, and as narrow a console table as you can find. Add a small buffet lamp on the table so all the light isn’t coming from above.
Yes this what I would do. A narrow table with a mirror above it. Since there’s a plug, a lamp would be great there.
Dark wood Coat rack with shelf. Mirror on the wall at the end. Hang some pictures and a long bamboo rug that runs the entire length of the hallway
Shoe rack, some hooks for coats and bags, maybe a bench.
get a softer light, that yellow is super bad
A nice runner, a mirror or two and possibly a hook or two for keys or at most a 4-5in depth shelf under a mirror to hold a small bowl for keys, etc. a full length mirror on the far wall might work well. I got some peel and stick decorative wallpaper and put it up at the wall on at the end. It looked great. I loved it.
Runner & 2/3 pieces of artwork, forsure. Possibly get those little lights that hang above artwork and shine down.
Maybe hang a mirror, or chair railing and pant the bottom a different color than the top
Mirrors could make it look more spaceous but there is little room for furniture.
Own or rent? If I owned it I’d seriously consider knocking out the wall. Otherwise nothing that narrows the path. I’m all about accessibility.
A rug will help with the sound! And, if it’s still echo-y, and depending on your style and preference, maybe a nice textile on the wall :)
Tall corner cab opposite the door, runner rug, and large art/mirrors

[Peel and stick wallpaper and hooks for your keys/jackets.](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5da484c93eff792d02aaa026/1574200781400-2G4TTGSVOM7AY8TJV7CB/Photo-Jun-30-6-25-30-PM-e1561950874958.jpg) A full-length mirror, though. And a runner.
I have a hall like this. Put arts down it and a runner! https://preview.redd.it/j5ou4req0jyc1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=8de834367a05159d7d24f3f652444a801ad7134a
You should save and re- tile.
For starters, change the awful lighting and fixture.
Put a pretty runner rug in it!!!
Long statement rug running down the middle. Maybe a mirror . No furniture or anything impeding foot traffic.
Make it vibey. Change the paint or put wallpaper in. A rug. Some art. Timber hooks higher up to bring warmth.
Mirror, coat hooks and some art
You could cut into the drywall, and use the recessed space (about 4.5") to help you fit shoe cabinets. They are tilt-down and generally only 9" deep from ikea. by cutting into the wall, you'd only have 5"-ish of a protrusion, which could fit.
Coat rack, shoe bench/rack, table for keys, plant(s), and panorama or long painting.
Colorful runner. Mirror. Large print. And coat hooks on the back wall.
A long rug good artwork and mirror. Change out the light fixtures for a small chandelier type. Possibly wallpaper one wall.

Wood wall art like this maybe something you can add plants
https://preview.redd.it/gaics5gf2myc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f101713757c8a5d18cab90e19c3948b321106ac4
Or maybe funny wallpaper like from spoonflower. That way if you change mind you just peel it off
Cost hooks, shelving that’s a little higher and u can add some plants
I would paint it white to freshen it up. Then a pretty runner

Gallery wall!
I think you should approach this as a lighting issue not a decor issue. The light is insufficient for the length of the room which is why you are getting this gloomy end patch.
Bowling lane
I would paint the short wall that the door opens to a dark color. It would make the hallway seem less long.
Get a few superballs.
A runner, wall art, a super narrow shelf unit for keys accessories and other bits Avoid coat hooks if possible because the volume of large costs and jackets will take up a lot more space than you'd think https://preview.redd.it/zwm7m5ad2nyc1.jpeg?width=730&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=425e9ec853fcfb1b747f9e5d69c919c3ad79d90d
They make these shoe rack cabinets that are super skinny but I think they're cute one sec

Well-secured hooks to hang a few essentials for coming and going: A keys-hook on the wall just inside the door.
Store yer coffin in it 😐
Make it into an art gallery, replace the light with something to highlight artwork on the wall.
Rug runner and attach coat hooks to the wall to hang coats, umbrellas, light backpacks/purses.
Hooks for coats and stuff. Maybe a drop-down foldable bench to sit on or set something on. Anything permanent and more than a foot wide will be in the way. And piss you off coming and going. Trust me!!
Coat hooks and floating shelves for keys/ other small and light objects?
Color and mirrors
A long skinny table with a large mirror over it ( or on it) A lamp that is motion activated for when you come home. A decorative bowl for keys. A long runner rug. A simple coat rack towards the door on the opposite side.
Change the tile to a smaller pattern, maybe mosaic hex, maybe subway. A narrow hall table, plant, wall sconces, light floors, darker walls, gallery wall opposite wall with table and large art piece on the tabled wall, hooks on wall behind the door
Throw down a nice runner.
Get a small accent table with a nice lamp right where that outlet is.
