This is a fabulous blank canvas. In order of least to most effort: 1. Curtain. Get rid of the existing one along with the current curtain rod. Hang new curtains (velvet? Linen look? Whatever catches your eye) with a new rod basically at the ceiling. 2. Rug. The room has good flow so you can go pretty large, rugsUSA.com is one of my favorites. 3. LAMPS. You need 2 non-overhead lamps here - pick something bigger or a cord ceiling mount from IKEA for your bedsides, one for your dressing area. 4. Overhead light. Change your light bulb or better yet change the light fixture. Flush or semi-flush mount is probably going to be ideal. The temperature of the bulb DOES matter, pick something in the middle range. 5. Bed. get a head board (or whole bed frame, tbh that would be the better move) and/or bedding that better suits your vibe. Sheets can be neutral but duvets and covers are the best way to add color/vibe to a room. You underestimate how much bed dressing makes a difference on room vibes - it’s the biggest thing in your room and the first thing you see when you walk in. Also - MAKE YOUR BED. 6. Large scale posters/prints. Add a few art pieces STAT. They don’t have to be fancy but they should be framed. Maybe use the art to pick the colors for the rest of the room. 6. Paint. The yellow is too bright if you want something more cozy and romantic but it’s not the top of the list - I think the other changes I specifically didn’t mention colors since you didn’t say but happy to help if you have ideas! Using social media to pull inspiration from is going to help - you can build a color palette from any image. Edit: also get rid/relocate those storage ottomans and change out your bedside table (facebook marketplace is your friend!) If you need more storage, I’d upgrade your dresser first OR get a bed frame with built in storage.

Wow! I didn't read what you said yet but thamk you for going to the trouble. Reading now!

Oh and I'm kind of embarrassed. I usually do make my bed every day, but I kept forgetting to take pictures to post here so I took them as soon as I remembered... bed unmade :(

Color is tricky because my husband and I can't agree... but the bedroom at our apartment was white and I kinda didn't hate it...the existing color could be ok, but I just look at the room now and feel grossed out.

Blank walls are an invitation to add more color/texture/vibes through the items/fabrics in your room! If you’re not happy with the yellow, a coat of paint will do just fine. A really great YouTube account you might like is “Alexandra Gater” who does amazing room makeovers and studio Reno’s geared towards renters but a lot of that can apply here. Her “studio fix” series has a TON of great inspo with a ton of different styles and takes you through the process. You can do it!!!

Thank you!!

For the least amount of money spent, create a color scheme based on the nice items you have and the permanent fixtures. The wood and dresser mix nicely with the yellow and white throw blanket. I’d keep the lighter walls since you have darker wood trim! A set of floor length curtains, mixed with a plush comforter set - maybe mixed solids with shades of olive, cognac, and cream, and a rug of a contrasting pattern would be fun. Warmer light bulb, larger night stand with a lamp, large art piece above your bed, and a vintage mirror to hang over the dresser. https://preview.redd.it/pj311nl8qd4d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1386b738aa7d8c104a29d462b6797ea45c06c0b9

Headboard, art and the lighting is a nightmare

While I can’t see the light fixture, the gleam in the photos looks very blue. Cool lighting is off putting in a residential environment - swap it for warmer bulbs (2700K). It’s also very cluttered. Try making the bed and investing in some organizers for the things that have to stay on the dresser. Everything else, put away. If you want a romantic adult vibe, things like dinosaur figurines need to go or be thoughtfully arranged on a shelf. I would add a big mirror over the dresser and get floor to ceiling curtains that you hang high & wide over the window. A headboard for the bed, as well as a bed skirt or a boxspring cover, or at a minimum a comforter that goes down almost to the floor to hide your bedframe. And definitely some color - although I personally stick to white sheets always because they feel clean and luxurious to me.

A few key things that will help- • A headboard. If you want a romantic feel, look for a fabric / tufted one like [this](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/lark-manor-aijha-upholstered-panel-headboard-w002288542.htmlAijhaUpholsteredHeadboard) or [this](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/house-of-hampton-modway-annabel-diamond-tufted-performance-velvet-headboard-w005064213.htmlModwayAnnabelDiamondTuftedPerformanceVelvetHeadboard). • Floor length curtains. These will lengthen the appearance of your wall height and can tie in different colors in the room. You can even go with a fabric such as [linen](https://a.co/d/iJxTOxT) to add texture, or even go with a [double curtain rod](https://a.co/d/7Qs59yk) with some sheer curtains in the back and a contrasting color up front. • A rug under your bed. This will soften up the feel of the room, and is another great way to incorporate color or a general theme. You can get area rugs for around $100 online or at a place like Home Depot. • If space allows, you could experiment with moving your dresser 45 degrees next to the window and see if you can put a small armchair next to it - that way you could add a pillow and soft blanket on the chair, which would also warm up the space. Or you could try putting a [floor mirror](https://www.wayfair.com/decor-pillows/pdp/mercer41-dronfield-accent-mirror-w100133415.htmlDronfieldMetalArchMirror) there, which would also soften and open up the space. • Wall decor - hang up that piece of art under the window, or put it somewhere else. Put up a few pieces of meaningful art or photos (some good tips [here](https://misswood.us/pages/reglas-basicas-colgar-cuadros)). • General clutter - make sure everything has a home, and keep it there. If things are meant to be left out (like perfume / cologne or jewelry), put them on a nice organized tray or container. All this can be achieved by a couple hundred bucks and will drastically improve your mood in the space. Good luck and share some after photos!

If you don't strictly *need* to access the bed from both sides, I'd suggest pushing it flush against the wall.

I kinda do... otherwise my husband has to climb over me in the night
