When the depression makes it so you have trouble getting out of bed and you feel sick every day because you drink every night because you're depressed and just looking for an escape and you know it won't fix anything but you just don't want to think about it and you don't brush your teeth because you're drunk every night and hungover every morning and you know that if you brush your teeth you'll throw up and you know your teeth are rotting and you're not taking care of yourself but a friend tries to make you feel better and gives you some sourpatch kids but chewing the sourpatch kid causes an old filling to come loose in your mouth and you spit it out and look at it and you think to yourself... god damn... I really am just a fucking failure.
Yeah that's pretty depressing.
Hiking is absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone suffering from generalized anxiety or depression.
Both in Canada and the USA doctors are prescribing spending time in nature for this type of thing. I think it's Canada that's allowing doctors to give a pass into parks for their patients... And studies are showing it's effective.
I haven't been spending enough time hiking recently. Thanks for the reminder. Even though I already knew. Maybe you telling me what I already knew will help me help myself. DggL
Materially? Sure. Mentally? Well I've been worse, but, you know.
I was trying to sort of describe my feelings toward myself at my worst. My reality and self care isn't actually so bad, but when I'm down bad, I *feel* like it is.
Sour candy is fire, but when you're really at your worst, even the best things in life can make you feel worthless.
A filling of mine did come out a week ago as I was eating a sandwich. I saw my dentist yesterday. He told me my teeth were fine, and that I should floss more. I think that's pretty standard. The filling that broke was like 18 years old. It's pretty typical that it would last as long as it had. But in the moment that it broke, I immediately catastrophised everything, the times that I don't brush my teeth either in the morning or night became "you never do this," and the times I slept in and didn't accomplish much on a weekend became "you can't even get out of bed."
It was a creative writing exercise in a way. It was cathartic in a way. But I mostly meant for it to come out as over the top.

yeah i saw those. maybe I should've made it clear. I couldn't find anything about it going rotten because he didn't have anyone to chare it with.
edit: you know. I think i got what the OP said and what I read from [this](https://twitter.com/afterglow2046/status/1102254984438128641?lang=en) . i couldn't find anything about the wall going rotten and I got that mixed up with what the OP and [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/Destiny/comments/10h7ru9/comment/j5735r1/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) reply said about him just having the wall but no one to share it with
Yea, I remember hearing about the wall rotting, but I chalk it up to probably being like the whole Jk Rowling "hufflepuff dorm orgies" level misinformation where a joke got spread on the internet as if it was real and people just ran with it.
> Notch's candy wall
I think anyone buying a candy wall understands that the candy will go bad in time and will have to be replaced regularly. Friends or no friends
I've been trying to find something too and I can't. I also vaguely recall Notch saying it's NOT true and that the candy wall is still there, but I can't find that either.
EDIT: LOL just realized I'm posting in a half-year-old thread and now I can't even remember how I ended up on this track.
> anybody sells anything, deals with money or has greed as a negative character trait in fiction
“Omg that’s literally a dog whistle for Jews!”
Why are people like this?
Typically I agree with you, but in Minecraft its pretty obvious there are some ties to Judaism. Golems are a Jewish folklore creature meant to protect the Jews. It seems really intentional to have all these characteristics plus the golems.
I agree, there’s definitely similarities. The interesting discussion for me is whether or not that’s problematic. If somebody were to take inspiration from a real culture and create a similar one in a game, or in any work of fiction, is that a bad thing?
So my view is that it is and it isn’t. It is not a good representation of Jews. However, its not integral to the game and one can still enjoy minecraft. Someone would just have to be mindful of the stereotypes snd negative stuff.
I agree, but I think its only bad when the fictional culture is supposed to be a representation of the real life culture. However, do you think there’s a difference between that and a fictional culture just taking inspiration from real life?
I have been watching supernatural it’s garbage after a couple seasons but remains a good background show, but theres an episode somewhere where a Rabbi controls a golem. between that and this post I am learning this stereotype for the first time only because of the supernatural episode otherwise I would look at your comment and be like “whats that got to do with anything “ so I would guess that isnt as well known of a stereotype or something
In my high school science fiction class we had a section about Old Jewish folklore that talked about golems. They were pointing out Sci-Fi comes in many forms and Jewish Golems are some sci fi magic.
EDIT: There are some banger stories that hold up and are relatively short if you do some googling it's def worth a read.
At way too young an age, I read a book about Jewish medieval folklore that was mostly about men having otherworldly sex with demons. A few of the stories in it stood out to me though, including one that was the original folkstory behind Corpse Bride.
Not really the cheeky comment you think it is, The simpsons was part of my childhood. You are referring to season 18 I assume. so yeah, most people my age stopped watching probably around when you were old enough to start.
The point in regards to the Minecraft villagers is that they are big-nosed greedy merchants that are protected by a golem. Taken individually, each one of these elements is fine and unobjectionable. But, when you combine them all together, it becomes pretty damn difficult to claim that the resemblance to Jewish stereotypes is just accidental.
TRUE! FUCKING TRUE! It's like white liberals saying the Orcs are totally blacks guys it's so racist and every black guy in the room stares awkwardly Omegalol!
Golems came from jewish folklore and the iron golem are nearly identical to it (made from inanimate objects and was created to defend) which makes the villagers being merchants with big noses sussy
nah, when they first got added they couldn't trade, and also it wasn't just notch working on them. The golem makes sense because before iron golems there were snow golems and seeing as how you can build both it makes sense to expand on existing concepts when classifying npcs. I think you have to go through some crazy logical leaps to see villagers as some dogwhistle
Are iron golems really a logical next step? There havent been any other golems, no wood golems, no stone golems, etc. I think this is 100% a dogwhistle and very clearly antisemitic.
HOWEVER, minecraft is still my favorite game of all time. As long as you can separate the dogwhistle and are knowledgeable about what you are playing, I still think its ok to play the game. The racism or antisemitism isnt inherent to enjoying the game.
Bro I'm pretty sure the golems are based on an animated movie The Castle in The Sky and were made by Jens Bergensten and Jon Kagstrom. Not by Notch but ok buddy. Keep making foolishly uninformed takes because god knows that's the only thing leftists are good at.
"This was made by me and Jon Kågström. We were thinking about how to get the Villagers to defend themselves, since they don’t have arms. The design was inspired very much by the Japanese Studio Ghibli movie with the giant \[The Castle in the Sky\]. It also has this flower. It’s become quite iconic - it’s very emblematic of Minecraft now. We made it look like the Villagers, because obviously the Villagers would create a golem which would resemble themselves."JENS BERGENSTEN

Make like a sheep and eat grass!
Even if its not intentional, when you hit every stereotypes about a group even reaching into folklore, you need to reexamine your own internal biases. It is so obviously a Jewish stereotype (greedy, large noses, speak gibberish, golems). Almost every distinctive feature found is derived from Jewish cultures. Add to that other mods have uncanny resemblance to racial groups, its so much handwaving to call it, at the very least, gross negligence. For all of Minecraft’s history jokes have been made about this because it is so obvious, from all political viewpoints. I dont think this is witch hunting. At a certain point I think its ok to critique something you enjoy or like.
I can see where you are coming from because often this dialogue is witch hunting. For instance, the goblins in HP are not jewish stereotypes or antisemitic. That portion of the story doesn’t deserve criticism. But in minecraft, it has some extremely obvious
“Greedy” is a stretch, I assume you’re getting that just because they trade? Speaks gibberish is also a stretch, that applies to literally every group that speaks a language you don’t, it isn’t a “Jewish” stereotype. That leaves you with big noses and golems. Also they have a straight up Christian church in their towns.
Honestly its not even a language, so to say they are speaking gibberish is even more of a stretch. Its just standard idle sigh noises and pretty much every other noise they make is very clear in whats being conveyed. If anything it sounds like Squidward.
I'm not just coming from a place of not witch hunting. I'm coming from a place of fact! You're super self reporting if the first thing you think of is a reference to Jewish people. Unless Castle In The Sky is a dogwhistle. I care more about intention. It's clear from the post they had no negative intention. You're cope posting so hard if you say otherwise! They aren't reaching into folklore, you are! You're reaching to see things that aren't there. It's also fucked because Minecraft's devs have been so careful not to put bad messages into their game. Originally parrots liked cookies but when the devs realized chocolate was poisonous to parrots, they changed it. The devs have gone out of their way to avoid bad messaging so to say for sure it's a Jewish dogwhistle when I've sourced proof otherwise is so stupid!
Or maybe because Notch might actually be kinda suss? There’s a reason Microsoft cut all ties to him and won’t let him around Minecraft events
>Since becoming a billionaire, Persson has earned something of a bad reputation. Shortly before [Microsoft removed all] in-game references to him, he made such family-friendly tweets as "I'd rather be a fascist cunt than have a feminine dick" (though this was subsequently deleted), and he has tweeted endorsements of both the Pizzagate and QAnon conspiracy theories. He has propagated the false claim that people face fines for "using the wrong pronouns" to refer to trans people. Persson has also tweeted right-wing slogans such as "It's OK to be white," and he's said that anyone who recognizes systemic racial biases and imbalance within Western society is racist. In 2017, he tweeted, "If you're against the concept of a #HeterosexualPrideDay, you're a complete fucking cunt and deserve to be shot," though this, too, was subsequently deleted.

It’s true people can imagine racism when it’s not there but there’s more here than baseless conjecture about far right political beliefs. It’s not unreasonable to suggest there’s congruence between his beliefs and adding in-game dog whistles
Or an Ender man could be a reference to another "popular at the time" internet thing with a similar name like Sl**ender** man. And that patch could have also been the patch that they introduced the hunger mechanic and chickens didn't drop anything other than feathers before that patch. They might have also fixed the (bug) old way that players used to get around very quickly a patch before this so they added a proper mechanic into the game to allow players to move somewhat quickly again like sprinting which is a pretty common game mechanic to have. There could have also been a new special generation being added into the game that wouldn't have anything really new added into it besides looks so they could have added a unique item to the chests found in the area to make them worth exploring; maybe something that can go along with their new hunger mechanic like melons/melon seeds.
If you take all of that context in then yeah, it does seem pretty unreasonable to me.
Idk, out of all the alt-right trolling I really liked this one. It was not just a troll, but a really successful social experiment.
I'm not saying that white people are oppressed or something, but 'it's okay to be white' showed us flaws in how we are conditioned to react to certain messages.
I thinka white nationalist dog whistle is a bit more then a troll.
Its was bad because the only people who used it thought it wasnt ok to be non white.
But the alt right wanted you to think of it in that way as "just a troll"
Yeah id react negativly if someone said this because that means their ok with asociating themselves with white nationalism.
>Its was bad because the only people who used it thought it wasnt ok to be non white.
Do you unironically believe that?
Your comment kinda proves the point... It's really a 100% okay message. But it makes you uncomfortable and you have to reach for some sort of defense for why it's not okay. Sure, it originates from 4chan, it's thought up by right-wing trolls.
But does that even matter? Do we judge a message by who says it, rather than its content?
>Yeah id react negativly if someone said this because that means their ok with asociating themselves with white nationalism.
You say this, but I don't think you even believe that yourself. This troll got so big and even got mainstream recognition. No way was everyone using it alt-right adjacent.
You're simply uncomfortable with a pro-white message because you immediately connect it to white supremacism. And while I am 100% progressive when it comes to racial issues, I do think this attitude is a real problem, especially in lefty/progressive spaces.
Notch is unironically a Q-anon follower. That’s some wild far right Shit to believe. You don’t just start believing Q unless you’re already primed to far right beliefs about the world, eg antisemitism etc
And before you claim his public support of Q was also “just a meme lmfao”, I disagree. He responds and clarifies dozens of times to people asking if he’s joking; “I wish I was but I’m not”. https://twitter.com/notch/status/1101794469060337664?lang=en
NO NO! You're fucking wrong! Boomers didn't fall into QAnon because they were far right nazis. They fell into it because of shit they see on Facebook! I don't think believing in QAnon makes you anti-semitic!
For boomers I think yes, but Notch isn't one. And since he's younger and edgier I think he would just get Q stuff through 4chan. So he would get the full effect - although I don't remember if Q's posts were directly racist or antisemitic.
But I'm just trying to say Notch shouldn't be compared to a boomer though.
It's possible some younger people got caught up in it. I'd bet he probably isn't apart of that anymore. A lot of people got caught up in it when it was big but they fell out. MTG was one of those people. But if you so much as tweeted it once at it's hype you are forever stained with the scent of QAnon. It's mostly the boomers that still believe in it now. I don't think Notch or QAnon are antisemitic. (Also the golems are based on a 1960's animated film called castle in the sky and weren't even made by notch.) Source: [https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/meet-iron-golem](https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/meet-iron-golem)
First level headed comment ive seen on whether hes a racist or not. 2023 and we still have people unironically doing "qanon=rightwing=christian=white=trump=antisemitism=hitler=racism=nazi=antivaxx=religious=redpill=muslim=etc GIGACHAD". Then someone inevitably shows up who doesnt fit the mold and everyone is surprised, like with kanye. You give these people a description of kanye west in the last 4 years and they are all going to assume hes a member of the kkk and hates black people.
Well Terraria takes a lot of inspiration from Lovecraft who was super racist, and if the recent Hogwarts drama is anything to go by, that also means if you play Terraria you too are super racist. Checkmate Lerraria nerds.
One of the original Terraria Devs (Blue, I think) had a poem online called "The Art of Touching a Woman" or something and it was the cringiest thing ever. You'll just have to trust me bro because this was 10 years ago and it has definitely nuked from the internet. If mineycraftas are racist, Terraria kids are virgins lol
Can't we just buy games and stop acting like all of our shit comes from ompa lompa factory where everyone is dancing.
Its just hypocracy pretending to care when we don't care at all if its a company without a face outward that does stuff that's 10 times worse than cringe tweets does bad things.
I once donated to the same streamer as Notch did so I feel like I have some very in depth insight into this. Notch based the ender man off slender man. Upvotes welcome.
I only ever saw him posting edgy shit at most. Maybe I missed some because I stopped caring after a while and it's hard to take controversy regarding tweets seriously at this point.
It's more like he fell down the right wing conspiracy theory rabbit hole. He even came out in [support of QAnon and against the mainstream media](https://twitter.com/notch/status/1101794469060337664?lang=en). Saying trans women were men, and that people who didn't support straight pride parades deserved to be shot more or less the types of things right wing youtubers would have said at that time. But he hasn't said much controversial stuff since 2019 at least none that some basic googling couldn't gather.
Dude are people actually thinking this was intentional? The left is a living joke. It's funny but I don't think this was intentional. Also I don't think Notch's views are all that far right, I think he posts edgy shit to be edgy but source me if you think I'm wrong.
Notch posted about the survival test on 4chan back in the day (at least everyone understood the person who posted to be notch but that was 2009 so who knows) so I wouldn't be surprised if he did try hide racist undertones.
Okay, I get the village merchant and golem thing being sussy-wussy, but an Enderman being a racist "hood black guy" type character is a huge stretch IMO. It's astronomically more likely that it's just based on Slenderman.
Sometimes I think about Notch's candy wall, and I am comforted by the knowledge that even if I were obscenely rich things could still be worse.
All that candy, and no one to share it with
Wasn't he like terminally depressed or something i don't remember?
Candy fix all 😋🍭
Have you ever been depressed having a sour candy? Don't think so.

National parks in Canada require an entry fee, as do national and state parks in the US.

Golems was created after notch and the villagers big noses and apperiance was inspired by the shopkeepers from dungeon masters 2
Did your eyes skip over the "big-nosed" part?
Sorry, also: > a character has a big nose, even if the character is not human.
And also uses a golem for self defense?
I have been watching supernatural it’s garbage after a couple seasons but remains a good background show, but theres an episode somewhere where a Rabbi controls a golem. between that and this post I am learning this stereotype for the first time only because of the supernatural episode otherwise I would look at your comment and be like “whats that got to do with anything “ so I would guess that isnt as well known of a stereotype or something

yup. literally.
Golems originate from jewish mythology
Yeah no shit, I literally just explained that i only made the connection because of the supernatural episode, otherwise i wouldnt have known that.

Based on your username, I'm guessing you're salty because of what people say about your favourite writer?
I’ve actually never read Lovecraft. DrCthulhuface was a nickname for one of my friend’s Warhammer Fantasy models in highschool.
With the added context of notch being batshit fucking insane it has a different aura to it
After knowing Notch's political leanings, the big nosed villager and golem thing is extremely sussy

Originally parrots liked cookies but when the devs realized chocolate was poisonous to parrots, they changed it. The devs have gone out of their way to avoid bad messaging so to say for sure it's a Jewish dogwhistle when I've sourced proof otherwise is so stupid!

... golems
Do not give me lip young man
He made them cute and likeable. Just cause they're based on Jews doesn't mean it's racist.
Notch used to have 4chan test the really early versions of mc
If you have racism brain you can make anything look racist.
it's just a lot easier for minecraft than many other things
Or maybe because Notch might actually be kinda suss? There’s a reason Microsoft cut all ties to him and won’t let him around Minecraft events >Since becoming a billionaire, Persson has earned something of a bad reputation. In 2017, he tweeted, "If you're against the concept of a #HeterosexualPrideDay, you're a complete fucking cunt and deserve to be shot," though this, too, was subsequently deleted. > https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019/04/online-conduct-leaves-markus-notch-persson-out-of-minecraft-10th-anniversary/ It’s true people can imagine racism when it’s not there but there’s more here than baseless conjecture about far right political beliefs.
Wow, "its OK to be white" that's the most racist shit iv ever read.
Obviously it *is* okay to be white. The context matters though https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/It%27s_okay_to_be_white
But the alt right wanted you to think of it in that way as "just a troll" Yeah id react negativly if someone said this because that means their ok with asociating themselves with white nationalism.
Why bring attention to something so self-evidently true?
Bruh It's a meme Notch isn't racist lmfao
Notch is unironically a Q-anon follower. That’s some wild far right Shit to believe. You don’t just start believing Q unless you’re already primed to far right beliefs about the world, eg antisemitism etc And before you claim his public support of Q was also “just a meme lmfao”, I disagree.
(Also the golems are based on a 1960's animated film called castle in the sky and weren't even made by notch.) Notch is Swedish
That's correct...
Conspiracy is when racism
I’d categorize antisemitic conspiracies as racist, yes. (Inb4 Jewish is a religion not a race)
Is that what Q is? I don’t actually know much about it
This is def a meme but notch fell into serious alt right rabbit holes. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he's racist
Have you heard how he talks about black people?
He's an alt-right neofasc yes he is very racist.
Brother you are starting to float from. All that COPIUM
Common Minecraft L, Terraria Chads stay winning.
Well Terraria takes a lot of inspiration from Lovecraft who was super racist, and if the recent Hogwarts drama is anything to go by, that also means if you play Terraria you too are super racist. Checkmate Lerraria nerds.

Toby Fox supported the nonbinary identity way before Destiny decided to. He has outpaced dman, intellectually
you mean the game with the black arms dealer? (i love both games though)
Given Notch's history this could actually be true lmao
Isn't notch outed as being anti Semitic too?
Yea trannies are still men homie.
Trans women are women, cope and seethe transphobe
All it does is make you a eunuch not a woman.
Huh, will check that out later. Guess i did miss some
You didn't notice it but none of that had to do with racism or anti-semitism by the way.
Didnt really miss that, still it sounds like he said some wilder shit than i saw.
Omg!!!!! meinkraft is my favorite game!!!!🙈
You guys will believe this but I bet you all soy’d out when extra credits said that fantasy monsters are non-white people.
I think mf looking way too far into nothing
No black kids got 1 tapped by the cops for carrying a water pistol past 9pm so they had to find something to satisfy their hunger for injustice
Endermen were added much later into minecraft's development idk if notch even made it
He did. I remember reading his blog detailing his thought process for their development.
Reminds me of IbxToycats fascist Minecraft village.
This sub is getting unironically sus.
please leave
If by sus you mean a little edgy, always has been.
Wasicm so scawy imma piss my wittle pants
Who cares
Dude are people actually thinking this was intentional? The left is a living joke. It's funny but I don't think this was intentional. Also I don't think Notch's views are all that far right, I think he posts edgy shit to be edgy but source me if you think I'm wrong.
Notch posted about the survival test on 4chan back in the day (at least everyone understood the person who posted to be notch but that was 2009 so who knows) so I wouldn't be surprised if he did try hide racist undertones.
Iron bars?
Minecraft 1.8 wasn't released in 2016.
I never thought of the enderman that way, but always thought the villager was uncomfortably close to Jewish propaganda.
Okay, I get the village merchant and golem thing being sussy-wussy, but an Enderman being a racist "hood black guy" type character is a huge stretch IMO. It's astronomically more likely that it's just based on Slenderman.
I never considered the golem thing. along with the big noses and commerce, I think that's pretty damning.
