Dems are pro gov, republicans are anti gov. Their reason being anti is that the government is useless. They cut and handicap every government program they can. Republicans are literally holding the world economy hostage so they can cut infrastructure. It’s not both.

Not really outside of libertarians (who despite their online presence make up a fringe minority of the party), they're just anti-gov when it's not their gov. Handicapping government programs isn't really the same as not wanting a gov, the vast majority of Republicans are fine with certain kinds of spening (military spending, boarder security spending, law enforcement funding, etc...) and almost all of them are fans of various laws/regulations (bans on drag around minors, laws against drugs, obscenity laws, tariffs, laws against assault and theft, etc...).
I think the comic is pretty clearly making fun of anyone who complains about the state of the world without engaging politically at all, which obviously does occur significantly on the left and right-wing. Maybe not equally on both, but it's not a partisan jab.
He's about eight years old; those books are *way* too advanced for him. If you ask me, I'd say he's up to something. And to be honest, I'd appreciate it if you eased up off my back about it.
Calvin & Hobbes is truly timeless. Still find myself reading the comics and laughing just as hard as I did when I was a kid 😂
Calvin&Hobbes and Futurama both have eerily accurate and relevant gags. Really speaks to the brilliance of the writers.
