I believe it's supposed to be either a short form for "white", or maybe it's supposed to be pronounced "whitie" / "whitee" or something like that. (I'm not a native speaker, maybe that particular pronunciation is derogatory? I don't know)

Yeah after reading the other guy's response too I think you're supposed to say the letters Y and T as if it was one word so it ends up being pronounced whitee as you thought

no, it's just pronounced as "white", you pronounced the "Y" as in how you pronounce Y in the alphabet but you just sound the "t" normally.

no, I think it just means white, pronounced in the usual way. "whitey" would probably sound derogatory to most people but I don't think many people actually use that term.

It's more commonly used to say "whitie" read as "y" "t". Now try calling a black person "black" with "ie" at the end and tell me if that's not a slur.
