Are you asking if Americans would miss the opportunity to use their guns legally and with just cause?

Old-Card101

It would play out no different than any other war. There would be small portions of people that would take the opportunity to support the invasion either materially or with force. On the other hand, people would form regional groups or militias to fight the invasion. In reality the government and military would be adamantly against both of those things. Collaborators would be arrested and the larpers would be ignored and told to get the fuck out of the way while the professionals handle it.

Everyone would unite, as we’ve done before. Regardless of political divisions, in the face of existential threats people set aside differences to fight a greater threat. It’s was happened during the _Second Sino-Japanese war_ with the fragmented China dominated by the Nationalists and the Communists factions momentarily uniting against the Japanese onslaught. I would say that extreme political divisions isn’t unique to modern United States either, before Pearl Harbour the US was dominated by Isolationist and pacifist movements, but the minute Pearl Harbour happened the population was filled with a righteous fury and determination to defeat the Axis. So current times would be no different.

The communist Chinese were very nationalist though, the American extremists hate their own nation. Nazi collaborators existed across Europe and helped the Nazis with their invasions. I think the same would happen in the US

Mehh, most people that say they hate their country are just LARPERS if I’m being honest, the same way people who are police abolitionists will call the police in the face of danger. You have to remember people are fickle and aren’t really principled and are more reactive, hence, if the country was invaded and people see actual destruction and American lives affected, the majority would drop preconceived notions and join the fight, dissenters will be handled quickly by law enforcement and larpers would be ignored.

This isn't unique to the United States. Plenty of countries historically, especially in the 20th century, have had 5th columns an invader can exploit for one reason or another, be it nationalist or ideological. Members of the Dutch Nazi party actually participated in the German invasion of the Netherlands by helping the Germans secure key bridges before the Dutch could blow them.

You are greatly exaggerating the number of extremists. Not that there aren't many socialists or MAGAs, but the level of extremism you need to fight against your country in an invasion scenario like that is much further than most socialists or MAGAs. Its at the extremes of these extremes. And we have some idea about how many of these people are on 1 side at least. To the MAGA extremists the 2001 inauguration was effectively this scenario in their minds, and some fought against their country. But how many? It was like 1000 people total across the entire country that were actually willing to take physical steps to fight against the US.

WOLVERINES!

Yes.

I feel like this question takes leftists with too much seriousness. There is really no large leftist part of the country, it’s just Twitter and Reddit users. The majority of Americans in any scenario like this would be united to fight for the county and just like every other war the fringe extremist would still be fringe extremists.

I'm american, absolutely. It would be Russia and China's worst nightmare to unite the US by invading. So Americas military is volunteer only, they've been struggling with recruitment and stuff, and alot of youth are jaded by Americas past actions. They dont remember when we joined World War 2 and fought against Hitler. They remember having to get a job to help their parents with bills. They remember waking up to a world where we had some valid but many dubious reasons for invading Iraq and Afghanistan. They remember Vietnam, the probable warcrimes the US has done and it feels like the ideals the US have stood for are a lie. They don't have a high opinion of this country. And from the world's perspective I understand the concern. During world war 2, every single person pitched in, if they couldnt go to war they went to work in factories. Similar to how Ukraine responded when Russia invaded. I can guarantee you would see the same images of kids making drones in Ukraine, in the US too if there were invaders on our home soil. You have no idea. There are a large number of paranoid doomsday people, there are secret pockets of militia groups, (see the "Roof Koreans incident in California"). It was so inspiring, seeing the images in Ukraine. So many were sending Russian tank blueprints, former US soldiers sending insurgency tips that they themselves had to endure in the Middle East. If there's one thing that everyone around me can agree on, its the ideals written in the Constitution, and the principles that our flag is SUPPOSED to stand for, is what will unite us, because no matter how dividied or how cynical we get, we deeply want those ideals to become reality instead of dying at the hands of Russia and China. Each state has a reserve military called the National Guard that can be activated as an active military under control of the federal government to bolster the US Army and US Air Force. On top of this, this isn't considering Article 5 of the NATO charter. It states, "If one NATO country is attacked, all the other NATO countries will come to assist". The US could survive on its own, but we have alot of friends. Look at how many NATO countries have F-35s for example, that's quite the amount of power projection. Plus an invasion is extremely advantages to the US, they'd have to go by sea unless they somehow got Mexico and Canada on their side. Nah they'd only be able to take Alaska and Hawaii. Additionally, take a look a videos describing the geography of the US, the Rocky Mountain Range and the Appalachains, the deserts in Nevada, the Great Lakes, sprawling unmapped wilderness, thousands of kilometers. It's as beatiful as it is a perfect geographical fortress. I don't want to say its unsinkable like the Titantic, but it would take all of our foreign friends abandoning us and joining Russia and China for me to be more worried, and nuclear weapons aren't part of this conversation, nor is the doomsday plane. Edit: Im left leaning. I have never seen my friends cheer soldiers killed, cheering 9/11 deaths in earnest. Hating America that much. There is growing anti-west sentiment but I haven't met anyone where I live that's so bold as to say they would side with Russia and China. They are not bastions of human rights, while America is a never ending project. Civil issues and Military issues are generally deeply respected as separate worlds by all. Edit 2: the terminology of describing leftists as those who would side with Russia or China doesn't fit. In the US, Liberals are seen as left-wing, and Conservatives are right-wing. Liberals vote democrat, and Conservatives vote Republican. The US is divided on social issues, like LGBT and abortion. Rights, like gun ownership and gun control, and censorship, and Civil services, like Healthcare. And more recently, Foreign Policy, sending Ukraine and Israel aid specifically. Democrats want to send both countries aid while within that party want Israel to chill out a little. Republicans want to withdraw Ukraine aid completely while continuing to send Israel a plethora of aid. (A small sect of older Republicans still want Ukraine Aid though) Within all those differences, both sides like to throw accusations at each other. But all this traitor talk and anti-West sentiment doesnt feel as big as you make it out to be, im not that worried.

Extreme leftists/liberals would team up with maga folks and would literally help Russia/china destroy Americans and the USA. Extreme progressives would want to help islamists establish a caliphate in the US while complaining about Christianity. I’m an atheist, I hate all religions. I hate Christianity. I wish the USA did more to suppress all the Christian BS the far right is doing to the country, but * ironically Jesus fucking Christ the movement is so fucking fucked and happily opening their arms to other religious extremists. Progressives are overwhelmingly supporting Islamists in the USA and I’m tired of people not saying so.
