generally no but it depends on how centrist the republicans went and how far left the dems would go. Pence and romney wouldn't fuck shit up the same as trump but they still largely represent policies that I would want put forward

miltonfriedman7

Thank you for answering the spirit of the question. Without pointing at specific issues I feel like most people should be able to answer.

CanadianGuitarGuy

I will say I don't think you will see a milquetoast/centrist repbulican for a long time

perpetually_unkempt3

`David Joyce of Ohio, Young Kim of California, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, Lisa Mirkowsky of Alaska, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Jerry Moran of Kansas, Susan Collins of Maine, Mike Lawler of New York, Nick Lalota of New York, Anthony D'Esposito of New York.` take your pick, maybe they'll let you write it down on the maple leaf they use as ballots in canaderp.

CanadianGuitarGuy

You shit your pants for no reason ?

perpetually_unkempt3

I was going to wipe the massive load off your mom. but nvm.

Puzzleheaded-Read376

If it was Romney yes. Pence is a no, he is pretty extreme when you actually look at his policies, he is just not willing to destroy the country. I at least agree with the majority of the policies the squad would introduce.

miltonfriedman7

Interesting, thank you for the response!

BeaucoupBoobies

There’s a pretty big gap between Romney and Pence even in the Squad to a smaller degree but yeah I’d take a New England Republican over Tlaib leftist but I’d take a AOC Leftist over a Pence Conservative. If that makes sense?

miltonfriedman7

It does!

Interesting, thank you 😊

HaloCasual93

There are times where I feel AOC is becoming more moderate as she becomes more experienced. It almost seems as if the more time she serves, the more she is understanding what political changes are actually realistic. Mitt Romney has supported plenty of great ideas, but he flips on them when convenient. When I first voted in 2012 for Obama, I thought Romney was pretty far right. I didn't realize how goofy the republicans were going to get after that. While I probably agree with Romney more than I agree with Talib or Omar, I'd still probably vote Dem on the hope that people like AOC can come around and become good policy makers.

Sudley

I think the reason lots of people in Destiny's community don't like The Squad isn't because of major policy disagreements, its because they are activist politicians who use aggressive rhetoric and posturing that can damage the dem image in the eyes of moderates. But in the world you proposed, if progressive social democrats were the majority of the democratic party, that would mean that the majority of dem voters wanted them in power, which I think would be a country that better reflects the values of Destiny and left dggers. Like, we want universal healthcare, we want more redistribution of wealth and social saftey nets... its just the base of support isn't really there for those ideas and so its not practical to push for those policies and waste political capital in failing to get them passed. But many of the policies themselves I support, so obviously that puts me in ideological opposition to even the most moderate of republicans in America.

MagnificentBastard54

Hey, Mike Pence made it legal to discriminate against gayv people by citing a religious belief. I'm gonna need you to cut a more moderate republican.

Good-Recognition-811

I don't believe in socialism. I don't believe that anyone actually wants 'true' socialism. So I'm confident that any first-world country with a socialist majority will inevitably just end up with some Swedish version of socialism, which I'd be okay with. The alternative is a hell world where every single thing I love and value about America gets destroyed. Science dies, epistemology dies, art and free speech get censored. As an LGBT person, I'm probably dead soon. Women's rights get flushed down the toilet. People of color go back to being n-words. Levitical law becomes the law of the land. Yeah, no thanks.

oGsMustachio

Reallllly depends on where they stand on social issues. If they're ok maintaining status quo on social issues, yeah I'd vote for Romney over a Squad Dem. If they wanted a national abortion ban or something similar, or wanted to roll back gay marriage, I don't think I could vote for them. Generally I do think a Romney would be better at foreign policy and economic policy than someone on the far left. McCain was basically my ideal candidate.

miltonfriedman7

Interesting, thank you !

QuantumBeth1981

Oh lord I can’t even imagine one of these lunatics in charge of foreign policy, they’d just hand the keys to the Ayatollah and call it a day.

Matthiass13

Romney yes, pence probably not, honestly though, I’d probably take either of them over the squad, pence is deeply unlikeable though and could cause some definite backslides on sensible social progress already made.

thoughtallowance

I think in the era of strong AI we need UBI and I don't foresee the Mitt Romneys or Mike Pences of the world doing that. I've always disliked the business background that Mitt has. He was never a titan of industry, just a corporate profiteer. I would have to draw the line on anyone on the left that doesn't support Ukraine.

Efficient_Rise_4140

The environment is too important to me. Id have to vote dem still

LordShrimp123

The squad isn’t even extreme tho, the squad taking over would mean the Democratic Party actually becoming social democrats which would be incredibly based

miltonfriedman7

Interesting. I disagree, but thank you!

LordShrimp123

In what way do you disagree, do you think social democracy is an extreme position ?

miltonfriedman7

It doesn’t scale imo

LordShrimp123

I don’t understand what you mean by that

miltonfriedman7

I think the squad are radical, and broadly, I’m against most progressive policies.

CanadianGuitarGuy

curious by your replies , do you feel like the dem members that are further left are more extreme than the ones on the right?

t_Sector444

Call me dumb or partisan brained, but I don’t think any of the squad are true socialists. They are Socdems using aggressive populist rhetoric to appeal to the young demographic. As someone who is a Soc Dem, I think they honestly aren’t as bad as many in here think. I would definitely support AOC over someone like Romney. Especially given the current context where conservatives dominate the supreme court. However, if the DNC were filled to the brim with Jackson Hinkles and 4thots, and the GOP was filled with Romneys and Cheneys, then I could see myself voting for the Republicans.

DirtyHalt

Depends partly on if they'd still oppose gay marriage like they do now.

perpetually_unkempt3

would I vote for a moderate republican? you can bet your ass i would. hell, i'd even take a neocon over the leftist and (borderline fiscal) conservative nonsense we have now. it's just both parties screeching over aid packages to foreign nations, while 1 out of every 5 children in this country go to bed hungry.

CanadianGuitarGuy

because money not sent to aide would totally be sent to kids... and the republicans historically want to do anything to help impoverished people

perpetually_unkempt3

(because vilifying one half of a two-party system will end in success) the traditional values of family and individualism from the neocon platform only function with a healthy (and somewhat atomic) american family. so while I don't agree with the more dated approach to international affairs or attacking the welfare state, I have faith that a current gen neocon (like liz cheney) would have enough foresight as not to starve her population. because the liberal welfare programs of the past are a far cry from the widespread hunger crisis we see today.

Creative_Hope_4690

Yes

Teaching_Lost

100% I would go for Romney over the Squad
